I have to say, I am quite surprised by the bug stuff. Granted I haven't played it in almost a year now, but before that I've played the respective most recent translated versions every few months for a couple of years (hell, I even remember when /vhg/ was still a thing). I never ran into many bugs in the translated maps, especially in hot spring town and the capital I did pretty much all events without any major issues apart from one fuck up in Rin's story line at one point.

Has it really gotten that much worse?

This game still gets updated or just the translation? I played it a few years ago and all I can remember is that it seemed incomplete, but I never knew if it was the game which was incomplete or just the translation.

The game is incomplete, and translation is also incomplete.

Also both are still work in progress, but very slow progress.

At least I think it is more "done" than Ryona RPG... at least you can do "everything", Ryona RPG has several show-stopper problems (it is possible to do stuff in Ryona RPG that permanently ruin your characters some hours later in a way that requires a game restart).

I am pretty sure VH used to work without Japanese regional settings. But this latest version only works with Japanese settings.

Am I doing something wrong or is it the way to go now?

(Windows 10 with RTP2000 installed on Japanese settings, if that helps)

I don't realy know, cuz i always play japanese game with applocale so i don't have to bother changing to japanese setting thing. But i'm pretty sure in order to play VH you need to be on japanese setting (That's what wiki and hongfire said).

I am very sure VH need japanese locale, one of my computers was set to japanese BECAUSE of VH and no other reason.

Strange, this must be a new thing. AFAIR I've used to change to japanese just to extract the files, it could be played in any language.
Knight of the Phantasm is the last game I remember only working in japanese. And some Scale Garden game, not sure which one.

Picked up the game again, here goes numerous hours of my life.

I have another question that there seems to be no answer to as the wiki is poorly maintained... There are items in the game like a dress called Mini China and some S&M Equipment like the Open-Mouth Ball Gag and other stuff that you can equip but seem to have no character image or change. Like, the gags are in the legs slot and just appear as normal spats on Nanako.

I know the game is still incomplete so it might just not be implemented properly but I can't help but think i'm missing something or doing something wrong. Anyone got some answer for me?

You're not doing anything wrong. Almost all of the clothing items have been in the game for years and still don't have art.

The bondage gear, maid uniform, and dog ears are probably the only 3 noticeable appearance items that have character art for them.

Theres also the Dangerous swimsuit and the school swimsuit and the Apron and the Rope... also if you use the Ao Dai Dress you get a transparent version of the normal kung fu set.... And the Jeet-kune dress looks abit different if you go to her secret diary at that 2nd window (same goes for martial arts dress compared to kung fu dress... small differences though).

Thanks for the info fellas. I hate it when I'm missing out on content for silly reasons.
Kind of sad but also good to know there's nothing to be done about it.

And some of the updates even seem to remove previous content or break previous content. Last time I tried the newest version of the game it even had old features removed/broken. E.g. the virginity mechanic and images were broken even though they were still present in the game files they were not longer used in the scenes.

But I noticed this some time ago the development seemed to have been going great but then whoever is making this simply had disagreements and the development went all haywire. They started remaking old content adding random cities - just a mess really.

I don't know if this will ever be finished as they spend too much time breaking and remaking old content instead of just continuing on finishing the game/adding new stuff.

I'm almost certain VH is a mishmash of random people working on it and no real formal development. The game has been in "development" for years and uses an ancient RPG maker version. Don't hold your breath and just play what is already present, come back 6 months down the road and see what's new.

Aye. It's a collaborative project by a lot of people. However, the more people that work on it, the slower the development seemed.

More like come back 6 years down the road. There hasn't been any substantial new content since 2 or 3 years back.

I've downloaded this last version and must say that it's not worth it.
It definitely need japanese locale now. But not so many changes.
I don't like the new characters too. The game is ruined if compared from what it was before they pointlessly changed the trees graphics (as a indicator of dates).

Heyo guys. In a fit of nostalgia I decided to download the latest version of VH, and it is as much fun as it used to be. However, I ran into a quest I haven't seen before and I cannot find any info about it on the wiki:

If you talk to the old man right inside the entrance of the Capital (where you end up after you leave the Horse Train Station), he asks you to look for his lost granddaughter, Pandik. He gives a description and tells you to look around the bakery. People there tell you that there were people from the slums in the area, and if you move over there and talk to the ruffians in the slums, you learn that the girl was probably captured by the nobles running the sex-club under the porn shop. To get the info, Nanako has to blow three ruffians, plus have sex with a fourth one to get the fake VIP card.

So I get the VIP card, get the membership card, get into the sex club (which, by the way, has way more H-content than I remembered, and a ton of BDSM stuff), then I go into the VIP area... and nothing. I cannot find the girl anywhere. Is this an incomplete quest, or did I miss anything?

I know this quest from 2-3 years ago and i also ended up there without any continuation. Unfinished quests are the one true constant in this game. And it seems it still hasn't gotten any updates on this.
In the VH assembla there are still guys doing translations for this game although i think it would be better they would tranfer their translation efforts to newer games that are alive and not already dead.
It's not that i don't like VH, i believe it had the greatest potential as a Hrpg but after so much time and practically no real effort from the creator(s) it's just a sad antiquity.
