Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Apparently Saw...4 and 5... or is it 2 and 3. Can't remember. Anyway, they run parallel to each other, I guess. Had a friend complaining about the fact that it was "wait, waitaminute that didn't...how could he have..." And then it dawned on him.

And I think there's a Hostel 3 out now. Being lazy and not confirming yet, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Eh, I go for Vin Diesel, too. These are my popcorn movies, since I can't seem to quite get into Michael Bay.

*grumbles* Friend and I were set to go see Thor tomorrow and then her dad insists on dragging her along to a "gun safety meeting" for the pirate enactment group they belong to. She has a fake gun and doesn't touch the real ones. Her dad just doesn't want to go alone. And it starts at 4 and she doesn't think she'll roll home until 9. Bah. So much for the Thundergod this weekend.

1: Netflix is pretty neat. I am now going to get into obscure foreign cinema so I can be a movie snob( Probably not.)

2: Dead Snow is hilarious in that special b-movie sort of way. A man fights a zombie hanging off a cliff by another zombie's intestines. It is fantastic.

3: Saw Thor, liked it. Loki is probably my favorite marvel movie villain, pending Red Skull's performance in the Cap film. And they managed to hit a really solid balance of setting up the future films and keeping this one about Thor.
Loki gets bonus points because everything, everything that happened was by his design for all but the tail end of the film. They truly wove a web of deception fit for a god of mischief, and the promise of his return is welcome if they can continue to write him at such a caliber.

4: Finally got around to seeing the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, quite enjoyed it. I know I'm late, but nuts to you.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

So just finished watching Vanishing on 7th Street.

Plot is essentially this: Power Outage occurs in Detroit, USA. When the back-up generators kick in, the characters find themselves alone, all that remains of everyone else are piles of clothing. The darkness itself has come to life to snatch away those who are left.

After seeing a trailer that flitted around before the movie premiered at a film festival a year or so back, I've been rather excited to see this. It seemed like quite the interesting movie, and of course my curiosity took hold: I wanted to know what was happening.

So now that I've seen it... I gotta say I'm kind of disappointed. The movie hints at answers and leaves theories plastered all over the place, including one that seemed like smash you in the face foreshadowing... but nothing is properly answered. Only hints and teases.

The acting was good, and everything came together quite well for a thriller. It's a good movie, it just left me hanging and that really bugs me. The ending seemed a little silly to me, and some character conflicts that they introduce in the film just get left... untouched beyond their introduction.

There were also some things that just don't entirely make sense. At all. Even with the rules laid down by the movie itself.

Overall, a fairly enjoyable movie, but with a few drawbacks that just really irked me. Recommended for those who enjoy a decent thriller, or a bit of a monster movie.

The ending seemed a little silly to me,
A wizard came out and cast magic missile at the darkness?

If that wasn't the ending, it absolutely should be an alternate one on the DVD.

I've got that though I haven't watched it yet. Been meaning to though, and if you like b-movie horror films I'd suggest checking out Black Sheep. It's a kind of horror with demonic/zombie sheep set in New Zealand. Oh, and when people get bitten by these sheep they turn into a kind of demonic weresheep.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

So I just watched Super, and I have to say it's one of the best films I have ever seen.

For those of you who don't know what it's about; Super is a dark comedy where Frank, your average everyday guy, loses his wife Sarah, a recovering drug addict to Jaques, a strip club owner and driven by his desire to get his wife back and to strike back against crime he decides to make his own super hero outfit and goes around as the Crimson Bolt. With the aid of Libby, a comic book store employee he went to for some advice about super heroes they take on crime in the city and eventually Jaques to try and rescue Sarah.

My little breakdown may have not done the film justice, however the film, the final confrontation in particular is emotionally powerful and makes you really believe the characters are real. And hey, if for nothing else at least watch it for Ellen Page in a tight outfit.

I saw the trailer and really like the looks of it. I like James Gunn, especially his writing work with the remake of Dawn of the Dead, and his movie Slither... and Nathan Fillion is in it. I'm rather looking forward to seeing it. Did you see it in a theatre or dvd/whatever?

Torrented it because it hasn't been released in Britain yet. Though when it does come out over here you can be sure I'll be buying it.

So like I did with Walking Dead, and am doing with Game of Thrones.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

You hit whoever said that, right? Although that reminds me...

Pretty sure it's made the rounds, but what the hell...

Also, saw Thor today. Liked it very much. Agreed with my one friend that Natalie Portman's character was...unnecessary. At least as a romantic interest. Seemed a little forced, really. But the parts with Thor himself and the interactions between characters, that I really liked.

And I agree. Loki was such a bastard, but he was good at it. Funny, too, that the guy that played him was doing theater with Kenneth Branauh (sp?) when they got word he'd be directing it. Apparently Loki tried out for Thor initially, but got Loki instead. And anyone that uses capoeria gets points in my book.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides today and had a lot of fun. It wasn't quite as good as the first couple Pirates movies, and it was a little slow in the beginning. But the movie still had a lot to offer. Johnny Depp was amazing and funny as usual (^_^), and there were some cool new fantasy elements like mermaids. Also, Penelope Cruz did a pretty good job in her role as Blackbeard's "daughter." (I won't say if she actually is or not.) I didn't like her quite as much as Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swan) from the first three movies, but she still held her own.

Other than Johnny Depp, I think the part I liked best were some of the scenes with the mermaids. They really did a good job with the scenery and folklore making them kinda mysterious and even scary at times. They were attractive and alluring but also vicious and deadly, kinda like sea vampires. But they also had the capability for devotion and kindness (And were hot!). I don't want to make it seem like the movie was full of mermaids because it isn't, but the parts that had them were well done.

I know I'm going to be fantasizing about mermaids for the next couple nights. Please sing with me and take me to your underwater home....preferably without turning into a monster and eating me on the way down!

Mermaids? Now that is interesting. They've been a creature that has always interested me.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Ah, so they're mermaids. I thought they were sirens, given that I saw them pulling the guys into the water in the trailer. Friend saw it, but we haven't talked about it, to avoid spoiler stuffs.

Saw Priest yesterday, finally, It was a'ite. Lot of "travel" shots to show just how desolate and lonely the landscape was. Y'know, the kind of stuff that they could cut down on and make the movie even shorter than it was? (Clocked in at barely an hour and a half as it is.) The action scenes were pretty good, though there was one I found myself rolling my eyes at. I liked the design of the vampires and I liked the characters overall, even the villain. Wasn't as Hunter-ish as I thought from the trailers, but it was still a decent enough flick. Reminded me a little of the old John Wayne flick "The Searchers," in some aspects of it. Saw it matinee and will probably catch it at the dollar theater with my other friend, then that will probably be it.
