Less necessary than being able to progress in the game at all i reckon.
And it's kinda their fault not bothering to save for 6 hours lol, i save every time i am about to talk to an npc or pick a quest.

I want to ask something about this autosave function mentioned. Do this autosave have its own slot (slot 16 for example) that automatically rewritten everytime the game autosaves, or the game will automatically rewrites the last slot that saved before? It's the former, right? Can the developer control the times when the game autosaves? If it possible to make so that autosaves didn't occur within on-going events or parallel event-heavy sequences, then that should make autosave no difference at all to manual save, so game-breaking bug by autosaves can be averted.

But well in the end i would agree with the autosave function, because when the game actually succeeded on immersing you, and the game simply doesn't have any visual remainder for the player to save their game manually (like all of those Save Crystal or Things in old RPGs), then people tend to forget saving or creating back-up saves. Plus, in this regard i think RyenSaotome meant to use autosave AS the back-up, so we shouldn't rely too much on autosaves in the first place.

Still while we're at it, talking about back-up saves, the most frustrating thing to happen to me personally, is not "Encountering Game Breaking Bug After Hours of Play without Saving at All" but "Encountering A Seemingly Important and Possibly Game Route-Changing Conversation Choices After Hours of Play without Saving at All". For peoples like me who likes to explore all possibilities and outcomes in H-games, this is one of our nightmare :D.

Did you saw my last post comments?

I had two particularly important points:

1. The plot mentions that I should look for "that catgirl" BEFORE I ever saw here, I think a bug made whatever event that should have triggered to be skipped.

2. The stone seller, beside the bad dialog, also was in a hard to see place (just off-screen in a almost-screen sized building)

That said, I am eager to download the new version... of all games I tested recently, yours is one of the most promising (also loved that it works on OSX! I am playing on OSX! oh... maybe I should have mentioned that before, now that I wrote that, I realize that maybe the missing scene was BECAUSE of OSX...)
1. The catgirl is mentioned by Trey before you meet her. He tells you to look for a catgirl since he was informed of a catgirl mercenary being hired to kill you and this being your only way to find who is the traitor in your ranks.

2. I changed the dialog since I agree he might be missed to easy otherwise but I think his position is fine. If you search for someone you should look around after all. Since I end all buildings at the outside with walls it should be obvious enough that the room still continues.

The OSX version should be the same as any other version beside being ported to a different OS by the RPG Maker programm.

About the auto-save system:

My system works in a way that it automaticly saves every 2,5 minutes switching between saveslot 15 and 16. I made it this way so that in case it saves during a broken event you can still take the older save. It doesn't affect any other save slots you use yourself but it'll overwrite your manual saves on slot 15 or 16, which is why I mention these slots being used in the post about the update and will mention it in any new update for new people.

A new version has been uploaded and contains:

- 3 requests, 2 bounties and 1 event available at the new city board in front of your castle.
- Several buggy recipe fixed.

- Changed the name of the time value "days" in the merchants map. This is supposed to aviod confusion of people who think they would need to sleep in order to skip days.

- Auto-save can be toggled on/off in the main menu now.



General information:

- You can continue to play your old progress by copying the old save folder into the folder of the new game version.

- Saveslot 15 and 16 are used for auto-saves. Don’t save your own progress there if you don’t want it to get overwritten with auto-saves or toggle off auto-saves in the main menu.

Thanks to my game testers for finding several bugs and helping to improve this upload beforehand.

Whooo, downloading OSX version and testing!

EDIT: random opinion before playing new version... I saw you mentioning you wanted to expand on Ryen story because he was "boring", I would say to be careful with that, I really like his mystery vibe and the fact that you learn about him by his actions and comments from other characters (like that scene where you get a Ryen-only accessory, that by the way, does deserve some explanation despite being purely gameplay reasons, my headcanon is that Ryen is somehow ACTUALLY related to the royal family, not just a random usurper).

I do want to see all plot points and mysteries eventually explained, but not in long expositions or explanations, specially not in "ryen-focused" stuff, but instead as something like: Ryen do X, or Y, then someone confused asks why he did that, and he replies, like if it was obvious or something, but the player instead "clicks" on more of his life story puzzle.

EDIT2: tried to run, didn't worked, seemly there are permission problems, I opened the package contents, and compared the new and old version, the only thing that was different (beside the story/art/etc...) was that several scripts and executable files on the new version had a white paper icon instead of a terminal icon, and double-clicking them opened a text editor instead of running them on the terminal or launching an app.

I did tried adding "execute" permission to several files, and it did helped, instead of a message saying it won't run the .app file, instead the game launches and immediately crashes. But I couldn't figure how to fix it beyond that.

EDIT3: unpacking using OSX built-in unpacker make it works, using any other unpacker, it breaks. wtf.

I uploaded a v2 version of the Mac edition of the game to MEGA (Currently being uploaded to mediafire as well). Apparently the encryption of the rpg maker caused for a bug in the savegames and was solved in the v2 version. Please try this version and tell me if you still have the problems you mentioned or if they were also caused by the encryption used before.

The new update is online. It contains:
- Auto-save is now on saveslots 19 and 20. If you want to keep the saves from those slots, load and save them to different slots.
- Messages at the border to Begus about maps not existing yet has been updated and will only appear once from now on.
- Thanks to a new plugin it's possible now to hide the message box by pressing the delete button on your keyboard.
- The walkthrough has been updated and now contains a FAQ section. Please let me know if you have ideas for something that can still be added to this section.
- A new event with Kayelinth about a little garden for her now starts at the sleeping chambers.
- You can now enter the Whisperwind farm slightly east from the abandoned barracks where you found Mirel. The location is marked on the Begus north map or in the walkthrough in case you have trouble finding it. On the farm you can obtain the recipe for Soul Lanterns with which you can capture slimegirls or imps and release them on the farm. You can improve your relationship with released monsters by giving them things they wish for or petting them. Once the relationship is good enough you can harvest slimegirl essence or imp leather from them. This feature will later be continued with more social options after the relationship with the monsters is good enough. Please note also that the red and green slimegirl will receive a unique appearance in the future but are only recolored versions of the blue slimegirl for now.
- Kurohime has received another CG scene after her training in the secret prison is done.

- The promised warmap battle system still has grave bugs and won't be available in this update. My apology to everyone who was looking forward to it.

General information:

- Red Imps at the Whisperwind farm now seperated from normal Imps
- New visual and 3 new requests for the city board during which you'll be able to play as the catgirl Jackie and a new slimegirl character.
- The book author/seller in Thremten now sells books even if you don't have Tsubakis quest for a book about warfare
- Knocky in Ebron now sells a recipe for Katryx armors after you had the dialog about the Katryx weapon with her.
- The succubus can only increase your relationship with other countries up to 5 times. (Counts starts at zero even in saves where you already had used this option)
- The warmap has a new battle system and formation is replaced by research.
- Units in the new warmap battle system gain experience for each defeated enemy soldier.
- You can now craft Big Potions.




General information:

A new update is online, but since I had almost no time to work on the game this week it has no new content. Instead it mostly contains improvements and fixes:

- Red imps already caught with soul lanterns can now be catched again. This is to prevent people with save files from before the last update to miss out on the red imps on the farm. As with all other monster types on the farm, only up to 3 are visible on the farm no matter how many you catch.
- Lower speed on the city board to make selecting events easier.
- The warmap not has the option to reset in order to play it again from the start.
- Small balance changes on the katryx armor parts.
- Fixed the request quest from the doctor for Wild Dispel Herbs.
- The warmap now has different music in the background for the map and strategy parts.

There wasn't enough time to have my gametester check everything, so if you find any bugs please be so kind to leave a comment and inform me about it.

I probably won't be able to make much new content next week as well but afterwards I'll have a lot more time again. So I thought we could use the time to talk about all the stuff which I was planning to work on in the near future. Please keep in mind that this list does not contain everything and is missing general stuff like new CG scenes and new maps.

- Continuation of the main story line
- More Monsters and events for the Whisperwind farm
- More about the Windspirit and her conection to Vampire/Ryen
- Events for the ghostgirl Shey, Hellhound and Leneth.

In the picture above you can see the design of a monster hall in the top level of your castle. It's supposed to be similar to the Whisperwind farm and provide housing made especially for the different types of monsters in the game. Currently I don't have enough unique monsters to make proper use of this, so it won't be used for a long time, but once I got more this is where you'll be able to keep and play with them. :)

  • New face images and CG battler pictures for red and green slimegirls.
  • The version date is now visible in the main menu.
  • New paperwork on the desk in your room which includes a mission with Kurohime scouting an orc camp.
  • Alternative way to get Millaines CG scene through a quest if you picked not to open her box in her previous quest. (It*s the same scene with her, so you*re not missing out on anything either way.)
  • 2 new requests on the city board in Aldlyn if you haven*t upgraded the public health for the clinic or bathhouse yet.
  • New CG scene for Kayelinth if you have her vegetable garden event done, the bathhouse build and 70+ relationship with her.

Sadly a bug sneaked into the game which caused different problems after Kayelinth new scene. I uploaded a new fixed version and the files "Renryuu update files 11.12.16 to 14.12.16 (bugfix only!)" to update the previous 11.12.16 version without having to download the entire game again.

Seeing as how my patreon site has stagnated for a while I have added two new milestones to motivate some people to pledge.
New milestones:
450$ - Increase of the quality of all new CGs from Scarletts from cell shaded to fully shaded.
750$ - Promised update every 7-10 days. (Should any grave events in my life prevent this I’ll make sure to write an announcement and make up for it afterwards.)

Hey RyenSaotome, if you don't mind, may i give you some feedbacks and questions? Sorry in advance if some of it are already mentioned.

-The color for selection cursor in Menu imo need more contrast to overall menu theme color. When you're in a mainly dark colored areas, it gets hard to actually sees where the cursor is, this feel bad especially during battles.
-I think it will be better if on some items where you only need one but you can actually buy a bunch of them, like recipes for example, to add some clarification on their description that you do only need one.
-How about giving some indication for the holes when they're already checked inside? Like becoming burrowed or something. When you're hunting for holes (gosh that sounds wrong :p) it kinda stings when you forgot you already checked that one hole.

-Will the stats-improving skill from skill tree affects allies that came after?

My first idea was that after Tsubaki (i always imagined it was her who gets down the hole) goes inside and make sure there's nothing else in it, Trey, being a good countryman he is, close the hole to prevent any unwanted accidents for the surrounding. :D

Aah... that's a relief to hear, because you know, there are some games where this isn't the case, plus the fact that the game doesn't explicitly explain this, paranoia get a better of me. :p

I want to report another bug!

When you are in the middle of both Elly's First Quest and Herold's Quest of Fragments, bugs happen inside the church of Begus.

First, the exposition on the hall is overwritten by Elly's, but when you go to the basement, Herold's happens, which could break the game if you enter the basement from the right side. Right after the exposition, the game actually works fine, but you must return to the basement to finally triggers Elly's Stealth Minigame.

@AGamerPassingBy: I assume you played Kayelinth second scene before the patch came out? There was a switch not turned back off after the event which probably caused the bug. I'll make a fix so this problem won't appear in saves from before the patch anymore.
