Re: Text Based MMO HellMOO

It's not so much that it doesn't have sex as that despite having sex mechanics, it has a community that disapproves of using them.

I've tried to get into it a couple times but I generally lose interest quickly, though last time I played the community was a lot less toxic than I remembered.

Has anyone attempted to set up a server that isn't filled with idiots like that?

that'd probably be optimal, but you'd have to have people that are familiar with hellcore...

the sex commands could probably use some expanding too, they haven't really been touched since implementation what with the overall community taboo

definitely doesn't stop it from happening in private areas though, and yeah the community is significantly less dickish than before

Its pretty chilled out much and alot less asses going around shooting you straight in the face for sexing in public its a pretty fun time waster and such nice escape from reality

Id recommand at least giving a good couple of hours to try or such people are willing to help out new players and such as long your not a dick about it or such. there is a sexbased corp already up called "SLUT" ironically which is run by Zexy

How do you even get it to start?
It keeps popping up a message saying that it is being block by a security setting, but I have no clue as to what setting it's talking about. Shutting off my anti-virus did nothing.

Its your Java security settings, Goto control panel, switch too icons and click on Java > security tab and under exception site list put hellmoo site on there and it should work.

if your using the websites client hub you dont have to download the stuff ( I suggest you update your java if its blocking it it)

but if you do want to download a client to play muds i suggest you use
simplemu

Install and launch, then Press File > Address Book or press Ctrl+D.
Click New Site. You’ll then be prompted for a name. Enter Hellmoo then hit OK.

You’ll then be prompted for your Site Type, Host Name, etc.

Enter the following:

Site Type – Mush, Mux, Moo, Muse, Muck
Host Address - hellmoo.org
Port - 7777

You can leave everything else as the default or blank, then click Save.

Now just click your newly created world (named Hellmoo) and hit Connect.

You should see the game connect and the main login screen for HellMoo, enjoy!

alternatively, you could download a third-party client like SimpleMU or MUSHclient and just punch in the server information. that stuff's way better than the webpage version.

Re: Text Based MMO HellMOO

Yeah it's a lot easier on people now, which is good and bad. One of the things that separated Hellmoo from everything else was how hardcore it was. If somebody didn't like you, you got griefed to no end, apartment trashed, etc, etc. They could basically ruin your virtual life, do anything they wanted to you and your things and make the game almost unplayable for you. It gave you a reason to make powerful friends/allies and to keep a low profile. I really liked that. If you were a dick or obnoxious, somebody was going to fuck you up and steal your shit, guaranteed.

It made becoming strong awesome too, I remember there were a couple of abominations back when I used to play that were just absurdly strong and would regularly wreck people even inside the main city (As well as hunt in some of the low/mid leveling areas). That moment when I could finally survive an encounter with them instead of being one shot was glorious. Thank you dodge/whip build.

Now I don't even feel any threat really playing so far. I also got fined for "Public sexhaving" just trying to complete the whoring job with a willing npc. That was pretty lame. Whoring is one of the best/easiest ways to make money for a new player x.X I mean you can still do it, just a little weird that they will fine you for it now. The community never really accepted sexing (Short of the one or two sex corps), but now that the game itself will fine you for it, that's pretty odd.

It's hard to keep up with my history for this game. I played Hellmoo so long ago D: Then it died, I was there when the world was exploding and aliens were invading, the admins let me come to their room and we were all chilling. Then the game went down for days? Then we were all on the moon, then Hellmoo split to Carebearmoo and Hatemoo, I tried both out. Hatemoo was basically good ol Hellmoo, Carebearmoo (Kept the Hellmoo name) had some weird new additions that made the game way too easy.

Seems the current Hellmoo kind of went back to the old Hellmoo with a less assholeish community? I haven't played long enough to notice much but the less random killings everywhere (I still haven't been attacked and I've played for over an hour, so it's better :p). There were over 100 people online last I was on as well which is cool. Anybody that's been playing the current Hellmoo a bit mind sharing what it's like now?

I don't know how they feel about random killing and general douchebaggary though in comparison to original Hellmoo. I used to have a vamp and zombie character I'd use to transform the orphans/dogs/npcs in FC to zombies/vamps to kill/surprise noobs, haha. Sometimes I'd throw people down stairs, all in good fun, I was never malicious about it like most. I usually healed the people I injured. I think I played around with explosives too occasionally on my whips/brainy character. I never repeatedly messed with people and almost never stole items though (Even gave the person their items back myself sometimes). I wonder if I'd get in trouble now for that kind of behavior.

Re: Text Based MMO HellMOO

The game is a little more forgiving if you join a care bear corp's (which are in purple names) which disables pvp (you vs everyone and vice versa) but people some people frown apon it but its good if you want to test the waters instead of being literally gang raped by a group of assholes

I picked this up a few times, but couldn't keep to it long enough to really get anywhere. A shame. Not a stranger to MOO-types, though, on that note - I basically learned howe2type in a MUD.

Re: Text Based MMO HellMOO

yeah the "SLUT" corp people are pretty relaxed about the sex stuff

the only one real rule i could recommend to newcomers is to not make an ass of yourself in public or chatnet

Another suggestion would be make a normalish name or so instead something heavily sexual based

another good thing to do is ask on chatnet if someone could give them advice for new players or such instead of dying horribly over and over then loosing interest

I know 31Buffy tends to help people if you page her

Re: Text Based MMO HellMOO

Your first build will probably be crap, just use it to learn how to move around hellmoo efficiently. Your first trip to BB and several other key locations like Weezer, Adament Canyon and such will probably be a nightmare, but after you learn it, it's easy as hell. Remember to update your clone at a CA or with achievements after grinding skills for a while, gyming, or using endocrines. You can get achievements for just about anything, so early/mid game you rarely need to manually update your clone (Which is pricy). Just enter a new location, wank, pee in a toilet, kill a new monster, complete a job, whatever will all update your clone (The first time you do it, so save your wank for if you become trapped after grinding!).

Good equipment to keep on hand:
(Will make Hellmoo life easier, which isn't recommended because you're supposed to die constantly as a newbie, haha)

Camelback - Filled with soda for senses/brain boost, water if you're broke, or booze if you have iron liver for healing (Buy crates of soda in Shoreline, much cheaper than vending machines). Moving a lot GREATLY increases thirst, you can't settle for a little canteen on any trips you take outside the maps around FC.
Towel - Wipe off zombie bile that can kill you.
Belt light - Needed for sewer travel or to get to BB efficiently.
Rope - or two to aid in climbs.
Backpack - Reduces weight of gear put into it, there's also an inventory size limit restriction that this helps with.
Gas mask - Wear under everything else, protects from all kinds of shit, nearly a requirement if you aren't HI, still helpful if you have it to aid with spews or whatever.
White cocoon - Saves your shit if you die.
Soylent or other Food - Heals you a bit and obviously cures hunger. If you're a brainy fool I think there's some fish sandwiches you can get easily around FC that boost brains.
Nanites (Can get free ones from killing Prop in Crack mansion) and/or Trauma kits - If you can use em. If you aren't aren't a zombie, you need these. Nanites need less medic score to work well and heal instantly (With small ticks afterwards) but a lot of popular mutations weaken these. They're for in combat healing. Trauma kits heal over time and take some time to apply, best for when you're out of combat and have a decent medic score. Probably good to have a couple of each.
First Aid kit/other medical supplies - I forget how easily you fleshy humans can break bones and damage your bodies, so you'll probably need something to fix those. Groin pulls (First aid/Groinex) from over exertion, broken limbs (First aid/Insta-cast) and bleeding (First aid/Suture kit) will be a problem if you don't have some mutation that makes you superior to normal humans. First aid kit can do everything you'll probably need, but has a harder success roll. So you may need to settle for carrying around the specialized versions if your medic score is like below 12-15 I think? You really don't wanna end up at the bottom of a pit with a broken limb and no insta-cast/first aid. Doctor in Slagtown will heal you as well, or your corp mates. Best to be as self sufficient as possible though.
Rad-q - Another thing I forgot about that can be dangerous to squishy humans, rads. This protects against higher/stronger radiation (That will mess you up horribly) but gives you minor rads for the duration it's active (Random stuns). If you use it when you already have rads you could die, so remember it's only a prevention and that you need to pop a pill BEFORE entering a high radiation area.

This can all be bought at EO in SE FC or found/bought nearby.

Also take the time to learn all the easy starter jobs (I'll add more later but this is the easiest stuff). You can very quickly become a powerhouse once you know how to finish all the jobs listed below. Most give IP in skills and will save you from having to grind out the first (Usually most difficult) raw of a skill. There are of course tons of jobs, but these will probably be your first completed and have almost no requirements. If you're a brainy kid, you can also do repairman fairly easily, I haven't done it in a while to give good instructions for it though. I think the equipment/person you need to start it is in a building in north FC.

Corpse Grinder - Process corpse with rdcd. Just kill an orphan and "drag kathy to west" to drag her body into the rdcd processor, watch your dick. (Gives scav IP)

Orphan Exterminator - Kill rabid orphans, -agnes pay

Mutilator - Use finishers, think it's a higher chance of procing if you fight aggressive and berserk, also if you power attack when enemy is low health. This job will probably complete automatically though without any extra work if you're a combat character.

Medic - Buy trauma kit from SE FC, use it on patients in hospital, no brains or medic requirement and pays quite well if you heal low hp patients, you can even beat them yourselves and then heal them (Though you need to leave the room for a minute or so or they'll continue attacking you). It's actually more profitable with a low brains/medic score since you'll heal them less and can continue milking them for money for a bit. (Gives medic IP)

Office Worker - Get job at Wuu in Corpclave (North of FC), only tricky questions are probably "What is our porn corporation" and "where will we bring people", Answer is Wuu Entertainment (You can see the correct spelling by typing lmap, it shows up there) and Heaven. Search closets to find stuff people ask for, blame reports on people, repair broken fax machines or I think you can hack servers to finish this job, so anybody can do it. (Gives focus IP)

Gambling - Just win at slots or poker or blackjack in FC or wherever else there's a casino. I save this for free clone updates though so you may want to skip it.

Whore - Pretty easy even without much sense and end usually. Fondle npcs, if they look uncomfy or slap you, they aren't horny, you can also ask them their needs like "-53may needs". It's a good idea to diag them or ask their needs first to avoid illnesses if you don't have hyperimmune, zombie, etc, etc. Don't try to fuck until you have the "GOD YOU'RE HORNY" buff because it greatly increases fuck score and without it you'll probably fail. You can also grab them and force fondle them, strip them and fuck them. Though usually they'll get horny from the fondling and you won't need to strip their pants off to start fuckin'

Just whatever you do, don't grab in front of a camera or you'll get stars and people or police will probably kill you. Fondling will now give you a ticket for 20 bucks which is almost nothing if done in front of a camera, you can get up to 1k for whoring if you're good so don't worry about it. There are a couple of apartment complexes without cameras in FC that npcs are sometimes in, or you can use the nurses in the hospital, but they won't pay you much of anything. Whoring is actually extremely profitable for a newer character if you know what you're doing, just watch for being labeled a sexhaver :p (Give fuck IP)

Abortionist - Go east of FC to Shoreline, kill the doctor there, take his coat hanger. You know where this is going. "Abort 52may with coat". You can abort people the moment they're impregnated even if it isn't visible yet, so always attempt it immediately after sexin an npc. It's not a crime even in front of a camera. Also you get dead babies and free loot off them because they seem to just about always die unless your medic score is high. Obviously works well with whoring job. Good to finish early because the more mutations you get, the less fertile you are I believe. When you first start out you'll almost always get people/npcs preggers but I think it becomes difficult later on. (Gives medic IP)

Pusher Man - Go in Crack Mansion, search till you find crank rocks. Break crank, break 2.crank, break 3.crank, etc, etc. Until all crank rocks are as small as possible. Give crank to crack heads, easy job.

Delivery Boy - Go up in Any Port, -ratzo package, he'll send you to like one of 7 people. Without track it might be difficult to locate some but once you know their locations, it's another way to make very easy/quick money.

Agnes you should know, Old man wanders around in the N/NE part of North Beach. Five Aces is in NW Slagtown in a building, Roy Poorman is usually in Bradbury now, in N Slagtown though he wanders sometimes, Slim is in S Shoreline on the docks, Caredog is in a building in Gangland on the street heading up to North Beach. Last guy, I forget his name but he's in Sharpton in Gangland, kind of middle E of it. He'll probably be the hardest to find at first, gotta enter the right way or you'll end up on the other side of the building far away from him.

Chud Burger (Sewer Cleaner) - Cut meat from chuds, sell it to the guy in chudburger in Slagtown. Chobo's don't count. You can combine this with the chud invasion hunt to save time. For the rest, you'll need to head down to the sewers. You may need basic track (10-12) and will need a belt light to find your way around. Getting around in the sewers for a newbie can be dangerous, but that's half the fun of hellmoo and you have to learn sometime~

You can type corp contracts to see what you'll get money for killing. There are like longterm ones that last for quite a while and hunting jobs. The hunting jobs are Chud, Prisoner, Racist (In that order of difficulty). Chud and Prisoner aren't too bad, they usually have pretty similar spawn points and all spawn and stick together for quite a while. As long as you sign the contract in FC and get to the location it mentions within a minute or two, they'll probably all still be in the same square together, making it extremely easy to finish. Racists you don't want to do till you have like 15+ tracking because they spawn all over the fucking place, in multiple maps and worse yet, they disperse quickly from their spawn points and will run in random directions if you attack them.

All these hunt contract enemies can get locked in buildings that you can't enter without breaking the door down or lockpicking, so be careful not to start their contract around when most shops close (6-10pm). Oh you can buy a lot of the kill contracts and hunting ones in a building in north FC. There are other kill contracts sold all over the world, so you'll need to explore or ask around. There's contracts to kill about everything im Hellmoo, so it's good to have one up for whatever you plan on grinding a while to make nice monies. You might wanna ask your corp if you can sign a longterm kill contracts before you do since there's a limit to how many can be active, but the hunt ones (Chud, prisoner, racist) are usually good to sign whenever since they only last for 2 hours.
