You know, there is a teleporter on the beach outside there, don't remember where it goes exactly, but if it's an kanywhere's better than here!' Scenario, you could try it. Think it leads to thge end of hell's highway, yeah.

Heh, considering that's where I was going to go, that'd been good. Though my start location wasn't right outside your hut per se, but across the pond and over the first little hill, and being dark I couldn't exactly look around easily.

Have finally built a road connecting the main town to my castle slightly to the North East. I will be up for building more roads if people wish it.

Hmm, we could use a gigantic minecart track from somewhere to somewhere, that's like one of only three acheivements I hadn't gotten yet XD

That being said, as soon as I find out where my bloody schematics have run off to (again /: ), I could use a road from my project to anywhere important. Hell, maybe just a ways off to a small makshift town with a waypoint in it, let them see it's beauty as they cross a hill or something XD. Problem right now is, The thing is rectangular, and I can't remember if the entrance goes on a short side or a long side XD

Actually, just yesterday Sin and I were discussing making a subway for the town.

A subway directly under the town probably won't work without you interfering with other peoples tunnels as a few people have been digging under it.

well it could work like the Edmonton subway and go above ground for every important stop, and stay underground the rest of the time. that way, the near-town tunnels won't be in the way, and it would be safe underground from monsters for the cross-country bits.

If you are going to make a subway I'd recommend covering the outer walls in another block so people know what it is so they don't dig into it.

Agreed. Or at the very least, the blocks the tracks themselves sit on. It will be fairly obvious if they dig into it, so as long as the track isn't displaced, they can just cover it back up. Any suggestions? Wool, maybe? Not going to find that undergrough. Perhaps a bright colour?

I reckon a subway is doable, but will require good underground scouting and planning first. Have some people dig off in long narrow tunnels and identify any issues before any real construction gets underway. As for the under track material, even simple cobble or wood should do fine to alert future tunnellers. In any case they can always just plug it up and replace the track again. Going to need serious butt-loads of iron though. And are we proposing a coal powered push cart system, or a gold track powered booster system?

Wood would work, though I was going to recommend glass.

Track booster in theory would be easiest. A 2-wide tunnel so we can set up a Redstone Torch near each gold track every 2-3 blocks would keep it powered, and not rely on the coal or charcoal needed for half the other uses it could work with.

Additionally, making a launching section off each 'station' would be easy as well. 2-3 gold tracks off a solid block with a button nearby, then diverted into the main line. A example of the launcher can be found in Amp's world, on the unfinished cart track I had in progress (I ran outta gold ore, then lost my inventory of practicly everything else I coulda used ^^; )

EDIT: Additionally, if we make the tunnel a minimum 3 blocks wide, we could run a 2-way tunnel off the same set of redstone torches.

I doubt people have dug around enough to make a subway too hard to make. Yeah, planning would be required, but hey, what project doesn't need some. One way to do it would be to have anyone who wants their individual works connected make their own station, then have a "public line" that connects everything else and that people can branch into.

Just going to pipe in to say that I think Glowstone would make a good material for the tracks to sit on... saves torches and isn't too rare and is obviously not naturally occurring (outside the nether).

Other than that, sounds like a cool idea. Wish I didn't use my iron ingots on pistons now. I've got a bit of gold though that I'm willing to contribute.

Re: ULMF Minecraft Server (Address can be found on first post)

I vote for a 3m wide tunnel. Tracks either side with a space in the middle for walking, torches and whatever. Would also be good to agree on a consistent depth for these tunnels to sit at.

I'm left thinking that whilst a booster track would be nice, ultimately we'll never get enough gold. How many boosters do you need to get decent speeds? Coal comparatively is near infinite in how plentiful it is. Most of us have chests packed with coal despite regularly ignoring sightings of it, plus there's always charcoal.

Glowstone does sound cool, but would probably need to be spaced along at intervals or put in the central ceiling/floor. Actually lining the underside of both tracks in entirety, along the entire track would require horrendous amounts of glowstone. Even taking the track to my nearby hamlet of Westbirch alone would require over 1600 blocks of glowstone.

One of the most important aspects of this is determining a standardised track control system, since I imagine we'll be sending this thing in multiple directions. If anyone more experienced in track use could build a prototype station on the surface, that would probably be a great start whilst others could begin scouting route plans and station locations.

If I can get the materials, I can create a concept near Maiko's hovel, but once again I pretty much went from STUFF to oshi. I'll pop in later and take inventory, and once again there's a example of a optimum track layout if we usse Boosters in AMP's world. (I looked it up before building it).

Let me know which side the entrance is on and I can start making a road.

If folks are starting to plan an underground subway system, I can still work on above ground road networks for the moment. Does make the whole thing look like a settlement and expanding city.

Re: ULMF Minecraft Server (Address can be found on first post)

A 'Demo' Station has been sat up near Maiko's house, showing basic launcher mechanics and a decent layout for a In-out at each station. Any comments or thoughts of the subject can be left here though, if you want.

EDIT: the only problem I see is there's no way to get into the 'IN' track of the depot without putting switches at the track entry of each station or ending each track at the line. Or, more resource monserously, making a track to each depot at each station. However that will mean we can go a launcher at both sides... and hope people don't crash traveling along the same line.

EDIT2: Also included a (rather messy, sorry) idea for a over-under crossing mechanism for Exiting stations onto main track. Admittedly, other ways of connecting to a mainline may work better ^^;

Re: ULMF Minecraft Server (Address can be found on first post)

Had a thought earlier today; I've been meaning to build a tower to act as a storage facility for all my items though I was unsure where to put it, but then I thought that I could repace my shop with it and have the shop signs/chests on the first couple of floors and the rest of my inventory on the floors above and below the shop floors. Just want to know if people would be happy with me doing that or would you all rather not have a tower in the middle of the market district?

EDIT: I also have about half a stack of powered tracks you can have for the subway system.

I've got no problems with that. If my road beneath the boardwalk needs to be shifted, let me know.
