Re: Games Discussion Thread

Okay, I recieved a quest on New Vegas called 'Emergency Radio', and after going to the empty area it points me to I tried looking it up online. Apparently from what I can find (or not find as the case is) the quest doesn't seem to exist. Or at least I'm the only one to have found it. I also got the quest shortly after getting the NCR emergency radio.
It's probably DLC that will be available soon. Thesedays it's not enough to spend $70 for a complete game.

Er, make that $90. Wow, expensive thing, innit? I don't think I've seen something so expensive on steam before...

$90 on steam for the regular edition? I spent £70 for the collectors edition.

Would they really put in a quest trigger for a DLC quest though?

To niggle at your completionist tendencies until you are forced to buy the DLC, I'd imagine.

Oh I'm not a completionist, it just annoys me that I have a seemingly useless quest cluttering up my quest log. Also, New Vegas seems to have glitched into not triggering the 'ED-E My Love' quest after repairing ED-E and talking to whatshisname in Primm.

They did it in Dragon Age. Admittedly, that particular DLC was available right from release. (Which only really furthers my "I'm spending blah amount for a game and you're not even giving me a complete game rant. I'm getting very tired of this DLC cashcowing. I miss the days where games would be updated, y'know, for free.)

Ergh, they pretty much did the same thing to Mass Effect if what I heard was true. Much of it was already in the game but you were locked out from playing it until you got the DLC to unlock it.

Indeed. Though Fallout 3 did it with some pretty meaty expansions rather than the annoyingly simple DLC that we got from Dragon Age.

I got it to trigger by talking to someone in the NCR outpost outside of New Vegas. It was the scientist guy named Hildern inside the airport terminal of the Las Vegas Airport. Don't worry about Primm, just go and talk to that dude and the quest will trigger shortly after with ED-E transmitting a radio transmission to you.

Thats alright then, I was hoping it wasn't gone for good. Also, I decided to completely ruin the Van Graff's to loot everything on display in their shop as well as sell all the nice gear their guards were wearing. Netted 11k caps for my hard work.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I haven't progressed much beyond getting to The Strip because I keep creating new games as I read the Fallout wiki. Seriously, a Strength of 8 or a perk that's useful for pretty much no other reason than to bring down the Strength requirement from 8 to 6 in order to use the Anti-Material Rifle? Fuck you, Bethesda. I want my Perks coming at every single level again. (But thank you also Bethesda for creating such a fuckin' awesome game.)

Bethesda didn't make New Vegas, Obsidian did.

Bethesda only produced the game.

Also, I had the Emergency Radio quest triggered after using the two way radio the NCR guys give you. I havn't looked at it yet though.

I haven't advanced in the story since reaching Freeside either, though I did venture into The Strip to kill a guy for a sidequest. At the moment I'm level 16 and I'm trying to get a lot of sidequests out of the way. I haven't really gone for a character build in this playthrough, though in my next playthrough I plan on having my character a smooth talking rifleman.

Only when Nunu's character sleeps in game.

I didn't realise how important the Speech skill was until about half way through my playthrough and since then I've been leveling simply to increase my Speech skill. Goddamn I wish I tagged it at the beginning.

I learned that from Fallout 3. Indeed I try to put points into Speech in any RPG I play anymore. Opens up so many other avenues of approach.

My sister never does. Her solution is always more bullets. Infact, the first thing she ever said when playing was "How do I shoot this person in the face." Nevermind that it was Amata. Her response was "I don't care if it is my best friend, they need to shut up! Now!"

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Huh. I found that in Fallout 3, you actually didn't really need speech. Most other games tend to really need it to get the favourable outcomes, but in fallout 3 you could usually get the same or better results by having enough in a stat or the right perk etc.

Or, if you're a cheap bastard, keep reloading your save until the 11% chance goes off.
