Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

New update on the blog, with new enemies being added! So far we can see a Bull, a Horse and a Boar.

One question for you Zikare, are you planning to make the clothes changed to what they were in your sizing screenshot? The pink bra strap was far more appealing then the dull grey.

Am I the only one who really outright hates the jumping on ledges part? I can't even get to see an enemy because the character accelerates too fast, and climbing up ledges is too slow. And it's easy to fall down and have to start the whole process of climbing again. I say this game needs work before making enemies past that part.

Hold down UP when you jump, then you'll grab the ledge every time; that makes the jumping part a walk in the park.

Yep, If you skim over some of the past replies, nearly everyone disliked that part :D

I'm working on making it more enjoyable and less punishing - some shooting, far less use of the climbing animation, one or two floors to catch failed jumps and more explicit hints (like pointing out that the 'up' key can be held and doesn't require timing, I suspect that might have been a problem in many cases).

@Lila M-3210, you can skip the jumping section by using the 'Load' button in the menu. It puts you where you'd be after making it all the way up.

- While the character model is fine at normal gameplay distance, the "face-zoom" image is considerably less appealing
Heh, I have to say that I kinda liked that one myself :)

That makes it slightly difficult for me to find something others would like, but I guess I could download Daz3D, try a few variations and make a poll.

If you want to give it a try yourself, that would be fantastic. I don't want to earn money off of unpaid work, so if it's good, people like it and it includes a few emotions (normal, annoyed, scared, surprised, aroused) I'd offer at least a token of appreciation, say $25 via PayPal or a Steam gift up to that value if you prefer.

- The biggest reason why so many games like these (H games in particular) are abandonned is because they are too ambitious.[...]
That is good advice.

I don't stand above those things, obviously, but I've been around long enough to learn a few of the lessons. If there's one skill a creator really needs, then it's running against a brick wall again and again until something gives.

The point where fun becomes real work passed by somewhere around 4 months ago and I've been careful not to accept anything that would change the scope of the project.

One question for you Zikare, are you planning to make the clothes changed to what they were in your sizing screenshot? The pink bra strap was far more appealing then the dull grey.
That's her bra showing with the original color. I thought sexy red underwear was a bit inappropriate for a mercenary mission (but maybe so is her skimpy clothing).

Personally, I like it in black or gray, but red or pink would of course be possible, too. Maybe it's time to install some poll plugin on my blog to get feedback on matters of taste :p

Really nice game. I read about some of the bugs and I searched for one in particular.

When you're at the fountain and running from a wolf, sometimes, the wolf goes through the wall of the fountain, not jumping. This leaves the wolf suspended in the air at the top of the fountain. Not really annoying, but would need a wall fix there ^_^.

Thanks for making the game, it really is something else :) Different poses depending on which side you're facing would be awesome btw xD

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

The latest beta was fantastic. Here's my two cents:

PROS:
+The dialogue system is just great, keep adding lines to that as much as you can. Expands the lifespan of a single animation/enemy a whole lot.
+The controls seem to work fine, no real big problems as for running and jumping around.
+I was expecting the animations to be much more robotic, but you're proving me wrong.

CONS:
-As mentioned by others, the climbing animation is just too damn long.
-I think the struggle meter should be on all the time. I didn't like that if you lose the second struggle the protagonist just surrenders until the end.

Great work so far! Reped to heaven! I'll keep watching for this project.

I'm normally not a big fan of beastiality, but the animation and that...strangely erotic dialog has me loving it quite a bit. Hopefully that type of dialog goes on to the other 90% of fetishes, such as Vore (like, eating her then spitting her out when it's done) and Plant stuff, vines and sexy leaves and blah blah. It'd be cool if this did everything yet didn't pressure or bug the developer

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

Character animation is still bad, i would recommend watching more figures in their movements.

your rig probably is set for one massive spine i bet, instead of segmenting it into 3 or 4 pieces for spine to give the body movement..

when you watch someone walk you notice their hips move and their shoulders move as well instead of being rigid and locked in place, it actually hurts the human body to be locked in place when moving... frankenstein is a prime example of that.. without those movements you wont get far.

Nope, 4 spine segments, separate hip and buttocks, shoulders as well as neck and head.

The run animation you see in the current release is still the same as all the way back in January (but played at normal speed instead of slow motion).

If you want a look at the improved one I've been working on, I posted an animated gif here:

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

@ Zikare

Personally, I hope it stays beast-themed without any of the other stuff. Already vore was suggested, but I'd stick it with stuff like gore and scat. I.e: too extreme.

I'd suggest doing something well before adding more. You got a nice model already, so why not make good use of it? For example: different sizes, varying colours and textures, more attack patterns (jumper, dasher, pack master), and animations. One man can do only so much, so stick to a few well-developed models. Adding, say, a horse or a gorilla would be like a second gig while you are still working with the first.

As another simple thing I would do is add bushes and trees to the level. Get caught in one and you don't even need to animate anything beside the tree/bush shaking. The heroine shouldn't be the only one hunted either and you can do a lot with speech bubbles only, knowing how much work new art-resources can be.

Something I found lacking in the demo:
The story and the dialog is just plain bad. She fell to some planet and to some canyon, and her mech broke for some reason and now she has to dodge horny wolves? Also, we can see what is happening when she is caught, so instead of repeating dirty talk I'd rather see her mood/struggles as per input.

How 'bout:
"At 06:13 planetside base Revere III received a distress call from host planet Fortuna.
06:15 mech driver Susanne Dovier was dispatched to investigate. The logs state the call was send by a low-priority settlement 500km south from the regional expansion base."
* Shuttle launch*
Your mission: investigate the settlement and report to the command."
* Fade in, mech landing animation with some ooomph, begin mission #1. *

From here would be easy to build the story onward, like reports and why people are there, conveniently explained before or after a naughty scene :)

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

I tried the demo and didn't miss a single jump upon reaching the end. Maybe because platformers are my foretaste.

I wouldn't mind the difficulty being dumbed down how ever. Being completely honest, I play hentai games mostly for the hentai.

The only game that I did play like a game was Viocide. Only because the gameplay was fluid and fun. While the vore was pretty generic and unappealing (being a vore fan, I prefer it being realistic than bounced around in sacks of play-doh).

How ever for this game. Can't wait to see how it turns out. The gameplay mechanics seem to be pretty solid whilst the hentai still has much to be desired in details and bug fixing. Though a good start with bestiality theme right off the bat.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

@cm46138: It really is a bit lacking in the fun department currently. It desperately needs some action and enemies that are fun to fight off...

I really want to make a game with gameplay and story, however, because I find it enriches the porn stuff: the player gets to know the protagonist and everything that happens to her becomes part of her (thus the psychological stuff).

@10110001: You don't have to worry about gore and scat since I'm too uncomfortable with that myself ;)

I'm actually working on 4 enemies simultaneously atm, but I don't feel that this is draining me in any way. I can experiment with different behaviors, assign them to another enemy if I feel they don't fit, balance her speed, jump height, health, etc. against a bigger selection of enemies and design an AI that lets me share common behaviors.

I want to have around 10-12 enemies in the game at the end, but they won't all be as full-featured as the wolf - a few will just crawl along the walls, fly forth and back or shoot stuff at you.

A lot of the other things you're mentioned are in the queue. I've got a collection of bushes, grasses, hanging plants, rocks, mushrooms and stuff that I'm going to sprinkle across the landscape later on.

There is a complete story for the game, but I ran out of time for my milestone and had to drop stuff left and right:

Background:
- Far future, humanity is in space
- Rare alien creature (only few dozen exist and they rarely breed) used by ultra-rich to prolong life, extremely valuable
- Space pirates raid heavily armed transport, disappear with 4 of the creatures

Intro:
- 30 years later, renowned mercenary Sarah figures out where they went
- She's aboard a space station (done), packing her stuff (wip)
- Launches her ship (wip) and sets course to a planet far out of the colonized zone (wip)

Main Menu:
- Target planet is in the menu's background (done)
- Clicking "New Game", you see her ship blast down onto the planet (wip)

Game:
- She lands her spacecraft (wip) and disembarks in a mech (done)
- For some reason her mech's power fails (done) while attempting powered flight (wip) across a destroyed bridge (wip)
- Trying to salvage the mission, she decides to infiltrate on foot and steal hardware from the space pirates
- On her way to the space pirate base, she reaches a weird abandoned village that seems to be devoid of all technology (done)
- Searching the houses, she finds old journals detailing how all males went crazy (wip)
- Lacking a way back to her ship, she has no choice but to press ahead

In time she'll figure out why she crashed, why the village is there, the fate of the villagers, why the males went crazy and of course she'll reach the space pirate camp.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

I would also recommend you work on your lighting in your environment, Unity does support shadows and it supports lighting (in the professional editions) during editing instead of having to publish and test it there.

when your crawling down in the valley its as bright as you being outside in the town, it just doesn't add up, if you would like some help with things like that just let us know which unity version your using and we can try to mock up some lighting parameters for you or something along the lines of it.

hell, we could also help with some textures if you want.

is a great place to look for photo realistic pictures, it also has a sub link to skyboxes if you want to get some interesting skies, or we can create a moving skybox with some clouds on planes that move around in a spherical path.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

I can't afford the professional edition of Unity. The basic edition's lightmapping is an option, but I don't use it at the moment because it creates horrible artifacts where my surface meshes and the terrain touch.

-

The valley and cave are darker than the surface. I use two lighting layers (surface and underground) and fiddled a lot with spotlights to create smooth falloffs, eg. where the mech enters the tunnel, in the canyon and from the well back to the surface.

If you think the caves should be darker, I'm not sure that would be wise. Half the game will be about exploring those places and I don't want to require torches/flashlights/glowing crystals or make a dark game.

Something like HDR would be ideal, because I could raise the light level again once she was inside the cave, but that, too, requires Unity Pro.

What would you do about the lighting?
Perhaps create different moods by making sunlight more orange and shadow more blue?

-

I have an account at cgtextures.com and most of the environment textures are from there. They moved their skies to a separate website with separate payment some time ago ($30 for one skybox?). But I didn't have the impression that Unity's stock skyboxes looked that bad.

While some help would be tempting, my plan is to sell this game in the future (if I'm going to line my own pockets, I feel obliged to pay anyone who offers help, but I've very nearly used up my budget) :)

not recommended but if you want professional edition of Unity just for getting the lighting down properly...

i would recommend CGPeers (membership required opens once a month) you can get a copy there free... (hell its how i learn the damn engine because the free ones don't let you use everything sadly T-T)

also CGtextures does offer free versions of the skyboxes you dont have to pay 30 bucks for them, you can use the samples they give you and get them near 1000x3000 or so variants without having to drop cash for it.

when you scroll down to the purchase there is a tab that says "try the free sample" and its about 3000x1500 JPG size, and 1000x500 HDR size

still free for their members or you can get the 10,000x30,000 variants for the membership costs.

edit: but if your trying to make cash off it.. i would recommend this one be free first then off of donations allow for members to help you pick up a profesional license for unity so you can legally sell your game without any troubles in the near future.

There is a kickstarter for porn games though I can't remember it's name for the life of me. I'll update this post if I remember it.
Edit: Found it
