Re: Crisis Point: Extinction - Metroidvania H-game - NEW PUBLIC UPDATE! (April 25th)
I'm in agreement with Hentaiwriter and Anon; just because something appeals to you doesn't immediately make it appealing to the masses, and any dev shouldn't conform his or her style to any individual taste. Furthermore, as Hentaiwriter said, even if it DOES appeal to some people, you can just as easily turn off some people and as a result, lose even more consumers than you'd gain for a particular cult fetish. We don't all like scat, guro, futa, injection, birthing or whatever, and there are particular niches that one can find for those fetishes; I mean, absolutely no knock on those sorts of people, but everyone needs to understand that not everyone likes the same thing and one's fetish is another's disgust. (I appreciate you giving us the ability to turn those fetishes off btw, Anon. Nice touch).
On the topic of creativity and being avant garde, just because it's out there and different doesn't mean it'll be well-received. Creators follow a formula, adhere to a standard, or emulate another's style simply because it works and sells. IMHO, I don't even think Anon is like this anyway, because I see the effort he puts into game design, gameplay, sex scenes and whatnot; he's taking what is previously established as successful and putting his own style and personal twists on it, which is how art works. The level of feedback he's getting here (both encouraging and constructive), and how he's receiving it (case in point his response to you, WTF), as well as how his Patreon is organized, just displays how supportive the community is for his games. I don't think Anon's work is perfect (I'd like to see more in regards to storyline rather than a mere platformer), but hey, first of all, it's a free beta, and second, Anon's doing this nearly all by himself, funded by donations. Respect. For those two reasons, it's not going to be better than polished, full games with teams of specialized individuals working on them...not yet at least. And don't forget that quite a few of those sorts of teams (and many H-games in general) die in development stage and never reappear again. The fact that Anon is tugging along still and about to complete beta stage just shows his work ethic and commitment, and the community's support/approval of his work.
And as Anon has said, WTF, your sentence "I could find both a video or another H game that could easily replace what you've made"--that's not only unhelpful but also rude. The guy's been working on this project for months by himself, and being fairly receptive to our feedback, and yet you say that? Even disregarding how irritated I am at that (and that's without being the target of it nor being developer myself, too), I accept the premise but reject the implication--there is NOTHING unique in the vast sea of porn. Sure, go ahead and find the Mona Lisa of your fetish, but I bet you can find something else that could replace it too in a few days. In the meantime though, you can certainly appreciate that a game is there and lots of work was obviously put into it. I've got hundreds of platformers alone in my H-gaming folder and CP is still one of my favorite H-games, even despite its flaws and the fact it's still only a demo. Sure I might be able to 'replace' it someday, or with a current game I own, but I know I'd miss it and come back to it (pun intended).
TL;DR: Not everyone likes what you like. Being different isn't always a good thing. Anon's working hard, lay off him and stop being a jerk.
