Chamber of Secrets translated so now i'm starting on the newspaper scripts, looks like 13 to translate and then it's down to the private and public favors.


God I just looked at the clock, I have been translating for a solid 17 hours now.

The secret room is called the Chamber of Secrets and it shows you all of the achievements that you have earned and which of the 3 endings that you have seen. In this version the 3rd ending is what you get if you finish training Hermione.

Also this is the quality of the translation that you can expect to see from me, this whole first interaction to start the school newspaper was entirely in Russian and after my translation this is what it looks like.

Ok I apologize but the newspaper translation is going to have to be straight out of google translate. I put in some words and got until bore so I put in very bored and the very next line jumped to genie yelling at snape for having unprotected sex with his students. It jumps all over the place but it generally makes enough sense to know what's going on but its going to be far from a perfect translation.

Blargh. The modifications in that archive make the game fairly stable, but guess what? The Newsletter goes nowhere at the moment, and looks like it will partly be a series of public favors that occur off screen. The rest? Read like ten more books on various topics and then read books on how to use 5 levels of printing equipment and cameras in order to improve the quality of the Newsletter. It appears the wardrobe options, other than skirts, are tied to the various reports you send Hermione out on. She won't wear any of them no matter how high her whoring gets, but a couple of the reports are on cheerleading and muggle attire, which can force her into those clothes for the report (only the muggle businesswoman top right now). You can only get 0-1 level out of 5-6 in each of the journalism assignments right now, and it's impossible to get high enough to swap out her wardrobe.

After you manage to get Daphne to show up, that goes nowhere. She'll strip to her undies, and then a fourth-wall breaker pops up to tell you it's over until the next version. FYI, you have to not summon Hermione for 4 turns, in addition to waiting 4 turns to be able to call Daphne again. For some reason, calling Hermione resets the counter or prevents it from being decremented.

It looks like they're taking the worst mechanics and expanding on them, while mostly using appropriated outfits for Hermione as the only rewards. Daphne might be a bright spot, but I don't think there's much point in playing this version if you've already played the original. Unless you really, really enjoy text games, I guess.

The version I posted doesn't have the panties bug. It was just the "most stable" I could make it at the moment - I'm definitely not wasting my time fixing/improving features. The idea was to have a version I could play to see the direction they were taking the game.

I like the general direction they're going. My biggest complaint is that the books take forever to read again - something easy to fix after the final release is made maybe we'll have our own ULMF edition.

Im hoping to make this a version everyone can play to see the progress but im running on fumes, I have been translating for 22 hours now without sleep and I still have over 60 scripts to translate. I only have about 15 done so far.

11 newspaper scripts and 61 favors out of 62 need to be translated. And those are just the one's I can think of off the top of my head.



EDIT: Not to mention the script I just opened to start working on is 2,537 lines of code and almost half of it needs translating. I'm basically translating this game like it was made in Russia and never saw the English language.

That they've looked at the most hated aspects of the game and decided the way forward is more of the same mystifies me. Assuming they don't burn out from fixing, breaking, refixing, and rebreaking before they manage a stable, complete version, there'll probably be enough content to make it worthwhile. Although, I couldn't say they've done nothing but improve the game, if the first thing I do after downloading it is edit the scripts to make reading instant, and to give me several of every gift item and all the clothing so I don't have to grind money or wait a day for stupid owls every time I decide to buy a new shirt.

Well they actually solve that waiting, they have a cheaters mode that gives you 10k gold and Dahr's oddities has an option for overnight shipping. It just adds 50% to your total for the item.

I agree - the fact that they're working the way they are means a lot of wasted effort. Wasted effort on a project like this leads to burn out, resentment, and ultimately abandonment. I've seen it happen too many times when people are getting paid to write code - I can only imagine that the perversions of this group is keeping them going

Yeah, I'm aware of that, but 10K isn't squat when they have skirts and blouses that cost 3-5K without expediting and 4.5 - 7.5 with it, and the express shipping still doesn't go far enough in my opinion. You still have to go in and buy one item per day and wait for the damn owl to turn up, so all the books, cameras, clothes and gifts you need will take hundreds of menu clicks and around 30-40 days in-game. It's better, but doing that once is enough, and it would probably be unbearable once if they hadn't added the express option.

Why do all that when I can just alter the start up script to loop through the available items and add several to my inventory? Other than the fact that last time I did it with everything, I had to go through and get rid of a bunch since the inventory doesn't scroll...

I got Bitch Trainer from the torrent in the first post, and character portraits aren't showing up. Is there any way to fix this?

Well it's no surprise that the Russian version is buggy as hell. If I had a nickel for every n/ or \n that I have found in this code I would be a millionaire. They serve no purpose what so ever except to make google translate confused. They are mixed into basically every line of text and they have to be deleted so that the text translates correctly. I run the game every 15 lines of code or so that I translate and so far I have been able to correct all of the parsing errors that I have been getting. I most likely won't be able to finish the translation within the next hour like I wanted since I still have about 70 files to translate but im going to work on it through the night so that we can enjoy it by morning. I will upload it as soon as I am finished and verify that no errors come up when the game first starts. Speaking of which I need someone to explain to me how to get Witch Trainer to upload to MEGA while keeping the format so that it can be unzipped and played if possible. Thanks for the help.

Did I mess anything up by deleting it out of the text? The game is still running perfectly fine.


EDIT: Everything seems to be working, I fast skipped to the jerk off scene which is the earliest part that my translation kicks in for right now and my translation showed up perfectly through the whole scene.

The worst thing that could happen is that lines of text would run past the right edge of the window. I would expect Ren'py to prevent that by default, but I've seen it happen with this game before. I just don't know if it's because Ren'py didn't wrap the text, or if it's because something was screwed up by the developer that prevented it from wrapping properly. So you might be fine. If it wraps automatically, all you've done is removed their preferred formatting, and maybe left in the ">" that tends to precede lines of text.
