That's nothing! I remember games where you didn't have any fancy graphics!
All you had was your brain, and a computer screen with words on it!
And it usually went something like this!

>FUCK YOU
DON'T KNOW HOW TO "FUCK" SOMETHING.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Yeah, I was hoping not to have to resort to that but it's looking more and more like my only option. Ugh, now I have to find free versions of the ME1 DLC just so I can load these saves...

Also... question for those that have completed both games...
Does aybody else think that it's glaringly obvious that the Illusive Man is Admiral Hackett from ME1?
I don't think he is. Illusive Man doesn't really agree with Alliance politics much of the time and is voiced by Michael Sheen. Admiral Hackett also comes back once in the second game (for the crashed Normandy DLC) and he was voiced by Lance Henriksen. No, I don't think it's glaringly obvious that they're the same. I don't even think they are the same.

@ Toxic: Yeah, the Lust boss was pretty fucked up. It was a huge naked Cleopatra... and her nipples have tongues inside them and shoot out undead babies. It was fucked.

That's disappointing. I didn't do anything like look up voice actors, but I thought the dissimilarities in their voices could have been explained by the simple fact that Hackett only EVER talked to you through a radio. You NEVER actually saw the man, which actually was another reason why I thought IM was Hackett as well. And... well, Hackett wasn't exactly your run of the mill alliance soldier, either. There's a striking number of similarities between them, not least of which is their singling out of Shepard. However, I've never dealt with any of the DLC so I'm probably wrong. Meh.

So, I've pretty much fallen in love with Mass Effect. I'm really enjoying the setting, the writing isn't bad, and since I enjoy dialog anyway it works out nicely. I do wish that Tali were one of the female romance options, though. In either of the games.

Yup.... definitely the sexiest thing I've ever heard.

Thinking about it - will the decisions made in Dragon Age affect the add-on in a similar fashion that the ones in Mass Effect 1 affect Mass Effect 2? Because if so. . .

In my Dragon Age playthrough I've really pissed off Alistair to the point of him walking away from my party - however, he's supposed to return in Awakening, and he is the king in the trailer I saw. If it does work like Mass Effect my new party's gonna be short one member.

From what I've read only one of the original party members joins back with you, and which one it is is completely random. The rest are background characters or not in it at all.

I should hope it's not random, and instead based on the 'affection' bar. Granted, if you have two party members maxed out, then I guess other factors would have to come into play, like how often you use them, what level they are, different stuff like that, but it shouldn't be random. I mean, what if you wound up with a party member you never use, like Cait Sith or so- oh, wait, wrong game.

I'll reread the article in my magazine for it and post whatever info I get from it after work, though I'm almost 100% sure it said the character is random.

I remember reading stuff like that on a green monitor. You should have seen me trying to figure out what to do when I was told "There is a mailbox here."

According to the article I've read, the notation is:
Alistair, Wynne, Loghain, and Anora can make an appearance depending on player choices in Origins.
Oghren has a large role in Awakening.

This is Wiki, though, so no telling how accurate it is. It likely looks at whichever save you use and takes the data from there. See my thrilled face at the thought of the dwarf being a major player. -_- Going to be interesting given the multiple playthroughs I'm going to be doing.

What could you possibly have against lecherous, alcoholic, cheating and generally vile Oghren? He has such a charming personality! In no way can I see anything wrong with him.

To be serious though, I think Oghren is in the game mostly for comic relief and to give the dwarves at least one playable character. The character that I dislike most is Wynne, truth be told. She's always trying to chaperone me - in the middle of an epic adventure. Imagine preparing for a fight, getting all pumped up, only to have Wynne pop her head in to remind you that you better put on some warm underwear. . .

The multiplayer takes place before either of the two single player bits, and is about how Rapture became Rapture. I think it does a fairly good job of having a story in a mode that does not require or usually even welcome one. There's some interesting mechanics in play that I don't often (or ever) see, like booby trapping vending machines or hacking turrets or researching dead enemies for +damage. My only real complaint is that the visuals weren't designed for multiplayer, which sometimes makes it difficult to tell what's a path and what's decorative.

Also: Fuck aero dash, at least until I get it.

This should almost be in the hate thread but since I'm not that pissed (more annoyed) and it deals with games... why the hell can't deliver companies do their damn job and get my Aliens vs. Predator into stores on the day its supposed to be released... not two days later.

Bastards.

Playing the demo at a friend's though, it looks quite good and can't wait to dig into the single player campaign. Aliens vs. Predator 2 had a great campaign way back when.

I definitely sexed Tali up in the second one. Or were you talking about female Shepard romances?

That actually leads into a semi-rant with minor storyline spoilers.

GAAAAH!!!! I finally got Tali to get naked and they DON'T SHOW YOU HER FACE!!!! RRRAAAAGGGGGEEEEE

1 question: Why do both games make you go to asari strip clubs? I bet the third will have an asari strip club, too.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Could be the bit where all asari appear female(AFAIK), could be the bit where every species sees a serious resemblance to themselves in the asari( demonstrated in the club on Illium at the salarian's bachelor party), could be that the developers thought you'd be so desensitized no nekid lady parts that blue nekid lady parts would grab more attention, could be that the last was true and you didn't notice the human females in the clubs.

Also: with similar results.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

All asari are female and the reproduce by getting intimate with anyone from any race. its like asexual reproduction except it takes some of whatever the parter is and makes another asari.

Never been a fan of dwarves, sorry *shrugs* That, and I've yet to add the little runt into my party. I'm still working through the Sacred Ashes quest. Although your complaint reminds me of the Alistair/Wynne sock conversation.

Heh, I remember that one.

I did find Oggy amusing. Apprently he and Zevran have some very good moments, if perhaps trying to emulate the old Legolas and Gimli routine a little. Of course, I never used the blighter; like I needed another warrior when I already had two perfectly functional ones, plus a golem and a dog.
