This movie, "The Dark Knight Rises" is to be Chris Nolan's LAST Batman movie.

Stupid, I know. I personally don't think Bane will be played well. Bane was a CHEMIST, which means, guess what, HE'S SMART. Will they let him be smart? I doubt it. I personally was rooting for either the Riddler or Hugo Strange.

Personally i kinda liked the Bane from Batman forever. He had next to no lines and his soul purpose was to serve the ever so sexy Ivy and Bash some faces. Not a hard role at all!

But not even a slight resemblance to the original Bane, who was a genius, from what I remember reading.

To be honest i never got into the DC universe. I was a marvel Reader and a DC watcher, so to speak.

An uber strong monster who also happens to be a genius would kinda break the good 'ol "strong is dumb" cliche. Yeah, it'd be an easy roll to play running around going "bane smash" but easy doesn't mean good.

Here's what I remember about Bane:
He was born in a south american prison, so he learned how to fight like a motherfucker. He had unfettered access to the library and the gym, and was very good about making use of both. By the time he was an adult he was strong, smart, and ruthless. The people in charge of the prison decided they were going to test drugs on him and gave him what amounted to super steroids. Some time after this he was able to escape the prison. He then hears about batman and gotham and decides that nightmares he used to have about a bat-demon as a child were prophetic and he must fight batman. He arrives in gotham and takes a wall off the asylum, so that most of the crazies escape. Batman spends the better part of an uninterrupted month rounding them up, at which point Bane arrives at his house (Having figured out his identity), fights him, and breaks his spine.

This is the simple version. But he was never supposed to be dumb. That came from people probably not knowing how to write a character that was meant to be strong and smart.

He's gonna be played by Tom Hardy? Fuckawesome! That guys pretty cool, and goddamn did he bulk up over his movie career. I remember first seeing him as this lean guy Theo for some dumb syfy minotaur movie. Then RockNRolla was an awesome movie, and handsome bob was a favorite character of mine, especially the back and forth with One Two. He became a badass as Eames in Inception, built up to play Bronson.
I never watched black hawk down, band of brothers, or star trek nemesis, so I didn't see him in those, but I'm assuming he was almost scrawny then.

Considering Band of Brothers was his debut I'd assume he was fairly scrawny (as most characters were in the show). In Black Hawk Down he wasn't overly impressive size wise either. Though he was a fairly important character in the movie (Twombly for those who saw the movie. One of the machine gunners left at the corner who later made their way to the crash site. He's the one that didn't go deaf).

So yeah, it seems like Bane is more of a side villain, considering the fact his villainous run wasn't that long, but if he found out who batman was in the month he was watching when a lot of other villains don't and then ends up breaking his back and putting him out of commission as a superhero for a while, you'd think he'd be pretty high up on the villain list.

Well in fairness, batman spent all that time on all his old villains, they had a laundry list of excuses as to why bane could reappear and batman could have the upper hand, batman even bested him the next time they fought, he's just been sort of a "good" guy from then on

So, finally getting around to talking about Gantz.

Movie was pretty good. Not overly gory, though there were a few ick moments. Decent amout of action and a lot more humor than I expected. There was also the moment where you could hear the fangirls giggling and I swear they were doing the scene that way on purpose. Not being overly familiar with the manga or anime, I'm not sure how closely this follows either. I know the various elements are there, but I think the manga was a lot darker, to be honest. They do, of course, set it up for a sequel, which I think is already filled and waiting to be released. It was a good lead up and maybe not quite worth the 12.50, but it was a good flick. I enjoyed it and will definitely be trying to see Gantz 2 when it comes out.

About the only thing I didn't like was the fact that it was dubbed. I was honestly expecting subtitles and the way it was done, I think I would have preferred it, heh. I'm not a purist by any means, but...yeah. Subs would've been better, I think. I'm hoping any DVD release they might do will have that option.

I just showed Unlimited Blade Works and Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal to a friend who saw neither of them. I just got him into Fate/Stay and Tsukihime, so he was totally into UBW. It was a pretty awesome day.
