Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Was that supposed to be Raven replying Ronny?

Raven hasn't actually said anything since he arrived. Ronny was just sort of caught off guard is all which is why he stammered, like Raven usually does.

Got an exam and DnD today, won't be able to reply to ANYTHING. Just keep Eve moving, and stuff.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

I blame it all on the R names, I get the three confused in my head too. Yet I don't get the three A names in the Torries confused for some reason.

See that's funny because I was busy playing D&D most of the day, and by the time I noticed this you had already posted. If it comes up though I'll do what needs to be done.

Decided I wouldn't be fun to be around after the day i had. I'd get pissy and then no one would be happy.

I take it the test went poorly then. I'm sorry.

I nearly defaulted to Shrike on that one, honestly. I wasn't sure quite *how* to have Raven respond to that *laughs* And now I'm off to bed and to look up gypsy insults. *grins*

It went depressingly bad.

EDIT: Ahhh.... Eve's social sharkness coming into play. She's a lot better at it than i am. XD I would just flounder along and be pissy.

Gypsy insults no clue, though being from the Boston area he may just as likely to say something in either Italian or Irish.

Gypsy is a racist word, apparently. And saying you got "Gypped" is the same thing as saying you got "Jewed" out of your money. My boyfriend tore me a new one in the early stages of our dating because I said I'd gotten gypped out of something. Then turned around and said he should have expected it because I'm a stupid American, and he grew up in Germany.

That was almost the end of our relationship, I was so pissed.

Yeah they're actually called the Roma, or Romani. The word Gypsy comes from the Greek word for Egyptian because many thought the group came from Egypt when they're actually from the India area.

Yeah it's sort of like Cajun is a racist word, that's become a part of everyday language without a lot of people knowing it's an insult. The appropriate term is Romani, much like the appropriate term for a Cajun is Acadian.

In this case though I think Copper was looking for a way for Raven to insult Ronny in the Gypsy or Romani language.

Re: Laws of the Night OOC and Discussion

Ronny's pretty much right. I was considering looking for phrases that Raven could use to insult Ronny with. Personally, I know the proper term is Rom or Romani, but when it's 5 in the morning, and especially when I don't *mean* it to be insulting, I go with the more familiar term. If I do use it, I'm not gearing for an insult. Generally, if I am gearing for an insult, you know.

Oddly enough I seem to remember reading that White Wolf actually got in some kind of SNAFU over the Rom sourcebook when it first came out.

Why am I not surprised? I think I have that book somewhere, although I think it was probably because they called it "Gypsies," I think. And probably bastardized a culture. People tend to frown on that.

Yeah I think that's why they got into trouble over it, that's why you don't make sourcebooks about real world peoples. Someone's bound to take offence.
