Hi everyone,

I'd like to invite you to try out my game LifePlay, which is a life simulation RPG on Unreal Engine 4, which I have worked on since late 2017, with a new update every 2-3 weeks.

Download Links (latest version for all platforms can be found in these Mega / Mediafire folders):
-

Optional Map Downloads:

Features:
  • Play in real world cities with real world buildings, using OpenStreetMap geodata (157 cities and counting)
  • Extensive character customizations for the player and NPCs, catering to all body shapes
  • Non-grindy gameplay combining lifesim and RPG elements, with user-friendly UI and controls
  • Come across a diverse range of life situations, sexual or otherwise, realistic or fantasy (528 scenes and counting) where your choice matters
  • 3D sex scenes that allow player control without forcing it, enhanced by well-written erotica
  • Completely free and open source
  • Highly customizable, editable and moddable
The game has been under development since the end of 2017. It was first released on LoversLab in April 18 and has seen 11 updates since then. You can already get hours of the gameplay easily with different character builds in different cities.

The game will always be free and open-source. All contents, with full sources, will always be publicly released to everyone as soon as they are ready. Nothing will ever be exclusive or put behind a paywall.

I'm a modder myself (you might have come across some of my adult mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4 on LoversLab) so LifePlay is very moddable and even if you've never modded before, you could easily make a new scene, actor stat, action, sex description or dirty talk for it in a few minutes. Check the Docs folder for instructions.

The game isn't demanding in terms of PC specs, but if you do get low FPS, reduce the Post Process Quality in the Settings section of the main menu and there should be a dramatic improvement.

Genres (the game is very modular by nature, you can turn off any kinks you're not into):
Unreal Engine 4, 3D Animated, Life Simulator, Custom Protagonist, Dating Sim, Vaginal Sex, Oral Sex, Group Sex, Corruption, pregnancy, netorare, incest, rape, netori, dickgirl

Enjoy the game! If you like the game, consider donating on to help with the game's development. However, as mentioned above, all my releases are immediately to the public, you don't need to become a patron to play the latest version.

Feel free to make any comments, suggestions and map requests on here. I'll check this thread as often as I can and update the OP whenever I release a new version. This is the 'official support thread' for LifePlay on ULMF, if you like.

Vinfamy

I always try my best to optimize the game as much as possible, it shouldn't be too demanding on your system.

My potato graphics (HD4600) make this pretty unfun :( Either it's super chunky or it's horribly laggy. For whatever reason, only the "Screen Percentage" has a significant effect on speed, none of the other adjustments.

I tried downloading and installing a particularly tiny map ("Battle Creek") to see if that helped performance, but I can't find it in the listing. The listing of (unavailable) cities isn't sorted by name either, so I can't even be certain whether I'm just missing it or if it's genuinely missing. (I did follow the instructions in the txt file in the download)

Either way, I have this problem that I'm not entirely certain what I'm doing. I don't have a particularly good grasp of how I should go about any given task in the sim, and what intuitions I have from the "real" world don't seem to carry over into the sim. How do I pick a job? How do I know what jobs are available? Same with places to live. To some extent: what are the rules of the game?

Customizing one's appearance feels tedious. Other than the basic presets (one for each sex and skin tone), trying to get any given appearance takes a lot of fussing and isn't intuitive. Are presets available somewhere?

That's odd that only Screen Percentage has an impact. Did changing Post Process Quality not help at all?
There's a Load Preset button in the character editor menu (top left corner). I include a lot of body presets in the default download. There are also a bunch of buttons also top left corner for Randomizing Hair, Face and 'Sexy Bits'
You're right! I forgot to add Battle Creek to the list of possible maps in the game despite having it available. Will fix this in the next version.
To get a job, find a black office chair icon on the map (or use the search button), click on it during office hours > Attend an interview
To get a home, find a green house icon on the map (or use the search button), click on it during office hours > Arrange a viewing

Post Process genuinely seems to have minimal effect on FPS. With the default startup values, I'm getting 7 FPS, give or take. With postprocess turned all the way down, it goes up to maybe 8 FPS. With Screen Percentage all the way down, that same difference is maybe 15 FPS vs 16 FPS.

So in this game you can be with any gender, or is it locked with it only being straight?

Any gender and sexual orientations are allowed in the game: straight, bi, trans, asexual, you name it.
Aside from straight and threesome animations, there are specific animations for gay, lesbian, shemale-on-female also.
In the character creation menu, you are given a bunch of checkboxes to state which gender(s) you're interested in

Just quickly connecting these two: I tried Invercargill instead (the second smallest map) and it drastically improved performance for me. So ... I suppose the request would be "could I have an entirely fictitious map that's just optimized to be small and have low total polygon count" ?

Oh, and the other request that comes to mind is: right now you have "automatic unpause on action start"; could I get (an option for) automatic pause after action end?

Fictional map is tricky. I have an automated script to generate maps using OpenStreetMap data file. While making a custom map from scratch is not impossible, it would take x1000 longer for me to do everything manually (with a large margin for error too because I don't have a GUI to do this with, I would have to 'write' a map in a text file to imitate an OpenStreetMap export) for even a tiny map than that script generating a huge map from OpenStreetMap. I do want to make an in-game custom map builder that the players themselves can use, but not in the immediate future.
Since this has been requested on f95 as well, I can make a tiny map of a 'town centre' somewhere though (so it has all the building types but small) and specify it to be recommended for weaker rigs
The option for automatic pause after action ends is already in the game actually :) . Esc > Settings > one of the tickboxes in there

The following maps have been done and will be available for v1.12 (to be released this weekend) onwards:
  • Benidorm
  • Mislata
  • Pre-Saint-Gervais
  • Saint-Mande
  • Monaco
  • Pateros
  • Macau
  • West New York
  • Maywood
  • Sunny Isles Beach
  • Cambridge (MA)
  • Central Falls
Many people have requested smaller maps to be added as opposed to the current selection of mostly huge mega-city maps. The 12 above are a mix of small towns, suburbs to big cities, micro-cities, small tourist destinations, and university towns. Therefore, they're very small in size (most are less than 10 square miles) but they all have decent populations so the maps are not just empty - they still have plenty of buildings for you to play with (especially if you use the 'Randomize Unknown Buildings' feature).

These maps may be of particular interest to those with weaker PCs struggling with FPS while playing LifePlay as they're very performance-friendly and takes up very little memory.

Keep your requests coming!

Two promising progress update videos from Manuel Bastioni's new character models in the works. Still no date for release.
(Again, for those not following the game from the start, this is the same guy that made the original open-source character models for Blender Cycles that I modified, adapted for Unreal and am currently using for the game. For the past few months, he's been working on a new more photorealistic set of models that I'm hoping I can use for LifePlay when they come out.)

- UI overhaul that hopefully will look better and be easier to use
- Expand the pornstar / prostitute / pimp careers
- Modeling career path, including a story-driven path into the expanded porn industry above (so that your character doesn't just wake up one day and decide to be a pornstar)
- More scenes that lead to sex easily when hanging out with a high-peversion NPC, partly to balance out with the corruption update a few versions back that had many scenes leading to sex with low-perversion NPCs.
- NPC-NPC pregnancies (most relevant for some NTR content)
- More murder for criminal career path
- Ability to interview and hire existing contacts as employees for your businesses
- Ability to quit university, medical and criminal careers and leave fraternities
- ~10 new maps. Keep your requests coming!
- A Frequenly Asked Questions menu in-game
- Bug fixes and other improvements

Estimated Release Date: 25 - 27 Oct

Unlike most games, when you start LifePlay, it doesn't first go to the title screen (i.e. a menu with New, Load, Settings, etc). Instead, it goes straight into the main gameplay: either quickloading your last save, or (if no previous save was found), start a new game with default settings. If you need anything, you can do so by opening the Pause menu (Esc) instead.
As part of the UI overhaul in the upcoming v1.13, I was thinking about adding a title screen to the game (which has been requested by many players), however, the current system does have some merits. I'll list the pros and cons of both below and let everyone vote on which they prefer:

1/ No Title Screen (like currently)
Pros: quickloads automatically and gets into gameplay very quickly, makes testing easier for me during development
Cons: bit confusing for first-time players, wastes loading time if the player actually doesn't want to continue the last save

2/ Adding a Title Screen
Pros: more consistent with other games, the game only loads exactly what the player wants
Cons: slower to get into gameplay if the player simply wants to continue the last save

. However, patrons' votes will weight more (if you're a patron and wants to claim this benefit, please comment with what you voted also)

I would suggest that add a title screen and a option on either loading, and settings.

As the result of the and as part of the UI overhaul in v1.13, LifePlay finally gets a title screen (in the screenshot, 'Quick Start' is being hovered over and the default male character is playing the idle animation). For those that voted 'no title screen', don't worry, the Quick Start button will do exactly what the game used to do immediately on startup (load last save or start a new default game), so it's just one extra click.
