Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

With the lobby clear, Tabatha had free reign of the place. Near the platform there were indeed pay phones. They had phonebooks in a cubbyhole under them, though held to the wall with a think plastic cord. It was nothing a good running start couldn't snap.

Unfortunately, there was little else of use in the station. There was a sub sandwhich join, but such places wern't very well stocked, and it seemed like looters had already been through. There were some food stuffs, but on the floor, trampled and in the general filth that was in the place.

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

(aww. No newspaper stands with lighters and cigarettes? No small flashlights that have the city's name plastered all over it like a cheap tourist trap? Nothing like that?)

Mostly dressed again, Tab quickly found her primary objective and retrieved it by wrapping the remains of her pants leg around it, and then giving it a violent yank, to avoid injuring herself from the action. Dressing again briskly, though even with her pants covering her legs, it left her pussy and ass essentially nude for all to see... Still, it did offer some protection against casual injury, and semi-torn clothes were better than walking stark nude around the city. She stuffed her sliced bra into her bag, just in case she could repair it later, but the panties were far too torn up to be worth messing with, and she stuffed them into her bag only out of reluctance to merely leave them there as a prize for the spider.

The scientist briefly considered heading deeper into the subway, going so far as to reach a corner and peer cautiously in, hoping her eyes had adjusted more to the light. But if she couldn't see, or if it seemed more spiders may be about, she took the opportunity to flee...

(General actions:
Poke deeper into the station carefully. If unable to see, or spiders around, flee/leave.
If can see + no spiders, attempt to search further for another store... at least until it becomes obvious that she can't find anything else here.)

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

(Nope, looters love those kinds of things)

There was one more flight of stairs down to the platform and a few other things. Tab looked, but couldn't see at all. Some light could filter to her current level, but not down farther, and the angles just didn't work out. Plus, it sounded like the lower level might be in the process of flooding anyway. Her best bet was to head back above to street level, and light.

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

(Point!)

Giving up the search, Tab rushed back towards daylight, only slowing as she passed the downed spider a second time, curiousity causing her to come over and pluck a few of it's hairs, and retrieve the dart she'd stuck it with for a blood sample... stashing the items for later research. She even went so far as to get a gauze pad and attempt to squeeze some of it's venom out, the thing large enough she could safely attempt an extraction with the tools from the first aid kit without killing the thing, or risking injury to herself.

The samples would, naturally, be useless unless she could find a lab, and even then, it would likely take months of research... but this was, after all, why she came here.

Extraction completed, she'd return slowly to the surface, letting her eyes re-adjust to the light outside, and pulling out the phonebook, looking up in it's pages where the police station was... and a clothing store.

With goals in mind, she would attempt to head straight to the station, only stopping at a store if there was one on the way.

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

The search of the book yielded good results. Both a police station and clothing store were found, though the store was a few blocks past the station, and therefore not on the way. However, there was another concern. It would get dark soon. A safe would allow Tab to reach one of these locations and search it, but nothing else before it got dark. The street lights probably wern't comming on tonight, so the steets were hardly going to be safe. While it might be nice to focus on the items and goals Tab had already put forth, survival always had to come first, and, in this case, it might get in the way of a speedy completion of her research and curiosity.

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

("A safe would allow Tab to reach..." wut?)

Tab was indeed irked at how far away the station was from her location. She needed transport... a bike... a skateboard... roller skates... "duh." The idea was so obvious. If the police station was still so far off, she flipped open the phonebook and looked for sporting goods stores where she could possibly find a bike or skates, not to mention the other supplies she needed... maybe even some ammo, but she quietly assumed that any food and weapons would already be looted, her goal was mostly transportation. Or at very least a roller skates rink, so she could 'rent' a pair for her trip through the city, she was fairly sure that no matter how bad the looting was, no one in their right mind would bother to steal skates from someplace like that... or even if they did, it would be a couple pairs that fit them, not the entire stock...

Now all she had to do was take a moment to find such a place in the phonebook...

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

(oops, estimate. I moved the sentance fragments around a bit, must have deleted that word by mistake)

Most of the stores listed in the book were near the clothing store, past the police station. It was a major shopping district. However, there were still a few smaller shops, generally run down, from back when the city didn't have large mega shopping centers.

All but one entry in the sporting goods section were for stores in a mega-complex. However, the last was a small, 1/8 page add from some place called "Joe's Classic Surf and Skate". It seemed to be about four blocks North from Tab's position, towards the docks.

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

Pleased to have found something, but quickly getting annoyed at the way the small town was setup, she half regretted it not having been a larger town that was destroyed, knowing that it would've meant more shopping plazas for her to raid... She only stifled her annoyance with the knowledge that such a tiny city meant fewer casualties.

A brisk walk four blocks north later, and she'd be able to nab some goods. Unfortunately, she did assume an actual shop was more likely to be looted bone dry, sadly. So wether she found what she wanted or not was still a crap shoot. Worst case, this was a very short walk out of her way, for what could've saved her a LOT of time and effort traveling in the future. Well worth the risk of delaying needlessly.

Judging by the setting sun, she also assumed that if she could make her way into the store, it may have been a good time to consider where to bunker down for the night. And supplies or not, a decent sized store with places to hide seemed a better choice than out in the streets. She even pondered, briefly as it was, returning to the subway to stay. But where there was one spider, there were likely more, and being woken up by one of THOSE in her bed would not be a good thing.

(Travel 4 blocks north to the store. If uninterrupted and the store seemed safe, approach it and get a closer look.)

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

(There seems to be a failure of communication. This city is the size of LA. You're just in an industrial area without many shops and plenty of urban decay. Also, you've made really good time/had alot of time pass)

The trip was uneventful. Aside from the burnt out wreck here, stray dead body there, the street was quiet. No monsters or humans in sight.

The shop itself was easy to spot. It had a large green sign above it with the name and phone number of the place. Two large store windows and one glass store door. Next to it was a small junkyard, it seemed, or perhaps a storage area. It was really run down, hard to tell. The shop itself looked a little run down, but alot better then the junk yard. Out front had been several display stands, now knocked over, a few surfboards and skateboards littered the pavement.

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

(huh... Kinda odd way for the town to be setup.)

Arriving at the buildings, the 'junkyard' place seemed... strangely... out of place, next to the store. Her gun drawn and another tranq dart in hand, Tab moved briskly up to the shop and tested the doors, pushing them open and peering inside.

Her objective remained unchanged as she started searching the rows of stuff, gun drawn, to ensure no monsters were there, or shoot at them if there were, while she checked if anything of value to her was in the shop.

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

(I have a map, sort of, and the city pretty well planned out. It doesn't make perfect sense, but I feel it'll work)

If Tab planned on traveling by skateboard or rollerskate, she was in luck. Looters didn't seem interested in these kinds of things. The monsters wern't either, as there were none in sight. Infact, this block as a whole seemed more intact then others, the only reason being nothing of value to most humans to keep them on it.

Nearly any color of gear and equipment was in stock, giving Tab a chance to make a post-apocalyptic fashon statement, if she so desired. That wasn't just safty pads, but sports t-shirts as well. No really pants to chose from, though male swim trucks could make do if Tab was deseperate. Overall, the shop looked better off then did from the outside, this wasn't some poor store about to go out of bussiness.

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

Tab took quick stock of the store and grinned... If there were male swim trunks, she was pretty sure... there would be a female swimwear section. It may not have been the most dignified thing to run around in, especially considering the situation. But she'd feel silly enough wearing swim trunks for men with her tattered clothes.

Snatching up a fairly plain top and a simple bikini (if available), she slid the two on (shirt on the outside, obviously) and her existing clothes on over that (camo-shirt with the opened front like a half-jacket, and camo pants legs). She took dark colored padding for elbows and knees, as well as a black helmet, preferably something simple, sleek, and not very reflective.

It was a bit of an odd fashion statement, black bikini with camo over it. Black pads... she meant to keep dark and as low visibility as possible, especially at night. She noted where this store was, reminding herself that she could return here if she ever needed more supplies, and quickly snatching up a small skateboard to tie onto her bag... it'd be useful if she ever had to carry a lot, or if her new skates were damaged... And, of course, a simple pair of in-line skates.

Between everything, this was a decent trip, but far from perfect... with skates on, she could probably get almost three times as far with less effort. But something about the area still bugged her a bit. She checked through the store one last time, wondering if there was any way she could use it to her advantage, staying here for sleep or maybe setting up some kind of signal in case rescue teams came through. The latter idea quickly being dismissed, though the former still a valid option in her mind. If this place was mostly untouched, then perhaps hiding out here at night was a good idea.

Still in regular shoes (carrying skates), she'd finish securing the store, and then move to search the junkyard next door.

Stealth Check

1+15+18 = 34 vs 40 = 20+20

As Tabatha walked out of the building, she was unaware of another monster on the rooftop of a building next to her. It was a powerful hunter, it could leap from building to building, resembling a human that walked on all fours very close to the ground, bending in odd locations to do so.

It spied Tab, and let out a mighty roar at having found some prey.

Order Roll

Tabatha 10+30 = 40
Leaper 10+30 = 40

Tie goes to Tabatha

As luck would have it, however, Tab's hightened alertness allowed her to react first, and plan the first move.

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

Tabatha winced as she heard the sound of the roar, instantly spurred into action... She'd been called out by all kinds of animals, and her hand grabbed at the handgun she had, rounding to the beast instantly and pulling the trigger, instincts acting, as if she was firing her tranq dart gun, except this would have far more lethal consequences as she released a hail of bullets upon the thing, and turned to run back inside the building...

Any cover was good cover, and being inside a building with the beast forced to come through the doorway, was a lot easier to shoot at than it running around on the roof and ready to leap down at her any moment... Doubly so as she had no idea of it's true leaping capabilities.

Hit Chances

1: 17 + 36 - 31 = 22 // 17 + 35 = 52 ... failure
2: 36 + 23 - 31 = 28 // 8 + 35 = 43 ... failure
3: 4 + 2 - 31 = -25 // 14 + 35 = 49 ... failure
4: 4 + 20 - 31 = -7 // 6 + 35 = 41 ... failure
5: 9 + 9 - 31 = -13 // 16 + 35 = 51 ... failure
6: 35 + 3 - 31 = 7 // 20 + 35 = 55 ... failure

(the 31 is from the range, 25, and recoil, 6)

Tabatha fired, but missed all shots. That was okay, however, as it allowed her to get back inside the building, out of range of the monster. It wasn't very smart, and leaped down right infront of the door, giving Tab a perfect chance to fire again.

(Range is now 5, you have a better chance)

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

Tab groaned in disgust at how useless the gun was. She'd never fired any of these things properly before. She tossed it aside in frustration and pulled out two of her tranq darts, knowing she had a rather large supply of them, and relying on familiar weapons instead of playing a gun nut was likely a better approach to dealing with beasts like this.

With the beast squarely in front of the doorway, Tab hurled both tranq darts she had in her hands towards the thing. Unless it was going to break through one of the windows, a thought that occurred to her, but she hoped not to the monster, it had no choice but to come at her dead on, right into the path of her incoming darts.

(Attack with darts. Hurling both in turn if possible without too stiff of a penalty.)

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

(Heh, after that conversation, I have some bad news. Throwing the darts will be the 2d50 system as well. But on the bright side, you only get a -5 for each check)

Hit Chances

1: 46 + 25 - 5 = 66 // 5 + 35 = 40 ... success
2: 9 + 6 - 5 = 10 // 3 + 35 = 38 ... failure

Tab hurls two darts at the monster, her first stabs it right in the ass, casuing it to jump and howl in surprise. The other dart sadly misses because of this impromptu dodge.

Leaper passes out = 4 turns

Grapple

1+55 = 56 vs 54 = 6+48

The monster turns and leaps at Tabatha. She almost dodges, but the cover in the store works both ways, and she is unable to dodge when a row of skateboards is in the way.

(If it makes you feel better, this is the toughest enemy thats considered "basic". I even considered nerfing it a bit

Also, stab with what? IIRC you don't have a knife, I can have you just fight it with your fistsm though, the damage would be an even 5 each turn (that you hit))

Re: The Right Track (Kathy)

(With the darts! I'm holding one in each hand. Lunge at it and jab it with them... n/m. *just takes the 'shooting' result*)

Tab groans as she feels herself grabbed at again, starting to grow annoyed with how many of these strange monsters seemed to want to get their hands all over her as she attempted to raise her knee into the creature's groin area, and break free from it's hold.
