The Love Thread (Or Just Warms and Fuzzies)

Re: The Love Thread (Or Just Warms and Fuzzies)

Wait, how is ODST, which is a rip-off of Starship Troopers, a prequel to Firefly?

Wait... how is ODST a rip-off of starship troopers? Is it because they fight aliens? Because they got cool gizmos? Because Earth is united under an international government?

I'm curious as to how you see that the Halo universe is a rip off of Starship Troopers. Not to many similarities (book or movie) outside of usual sci-fi similarities.

The concept of an ODST. In the book, the Mobile Infantry were launched from orbit in single-person pods, re-enter atmosphere, and land on the planet where they then carry out their objective as a squad. I wasn't meaning the entire Halo series or anything.

Re: The Love Thread (Or Just Warms and Fuzzies)

I'm all for some collective Halo bashing, but I'm pretty sure single-man pods being used as atmospheric entry craft is a common enough idea that you can't really say it's "ripped off" anything.

I Love ODST. It's like the Firefly prequel I never got!

"Please lord, tell me I won't have to do any more flying today."
*warthog asplodes*
"Amen"

...Um, technically..

"Please, Lord, tell me I won't have to do any more flying today.

*Banshee crashes nearby*

"Um.. is that a yes, or a no?"

*Warthog explodes*

"Amen!"

I love Dissidia, in all my fanboyish glory. Well, except for the storyline, it seems a bit naff, but you only really play it to fight epic battles of awesomeness.

It's actually a pretty common concept in sci-fi. Really, its just more advanced versions of parachutes.

So, whilst in Starship Troopers everyone was launched from orbit, in Halo, its just their airborne.

Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.

Exactly. I would have a very hard time believing the original idea came from ST, classic notwithstanding.

Re: The Love Thread (Or Just Warms and Fuzzies)

It's not even really sci-fi if you think about HAHO-HALO jumps, as in you might as well be in orbit when you drop.

Beat me to it by five minutes, Kusanagi; I was going to post that exact same thing.
