Re: The Abandonware Thread
I think it just says by default, Abandonware is illegal unless it goes under certain conditions. But I donno. You seem to like to trip peoples parades, don't you? =p
Not really, I was more just curious as to wether I was reading it correctly. Since you never know with some companies and copyright law.
EDIT: Aargh making my brain hurt. As far as I can tell it might be/ might not be illegal, it really depends on the individual download you're talking about. I couldn't really find out about wether those indivdual games have copy right protection on them. Yeah I know really helpful huh.
"Abandonware does not always mean "freeware." It only means a software title's support has been "abandoned," not the author's right to prohibit distribution. Many old commercial software titles, some dating back decades, are still under non-distributable copyright protection. Just because a software program is "old" does not always mean it is permissible to distribute copies. Even if you are not familiar with copyright laws, if caught distributing software titles that are under non- distributable copyright protection, you could end up answering to a corporate or individual's attorney."
EDIT2: I would say we may want to kill the links in the thread just to stay safe. According to this
You must be registered to see the links
EDIT3: Now I feel like a part pooper so I'm going to go stick my head in boiling water.
