Dear Lord! They do monocles? How is that even physically possible?
Those people are strange...

They beat each other with their own skulls...

And Dragon Age (to the best of my knowledge) is coming out for PC, as its the spiritual successor to the old school Baldur's Gate games (not the action rpg lites that came out for consoles later on).

But I'm not much into puzzle games either... I'm pretty two track in my games. RPG, and action. Shame possibly. Yeah I'm missing out, but I've seen the gameplay of Baird and it doesn't really appeal to me.

Um... I'm told the game "The Witcher" has a pretty good combat system, and its an RPG as well. I always meant to really look into that one. I loved the original books.
As for the Witcher, YES, YES, and YES. I wouldn't say the combat system is all that great, but the characters, story, and detail they put into the monsters, as well as the whole idea of witchers is just completely awesome. I haven't read the books, though I'd like to someday. I didn't think they'd been translated into English. Definitely DEFINITELY pick it up. Just make sure you get the uncensored version. The fact that you play a womanizer and can even get softcore porn for your efforts seals the deal with me.
Censor vs uncensor is more an issue if you're not purchasing it. If I recall correctly (and I may not be) they only censored it for the US release. Not sure what they did with the Canada patch.
Mmm Dragon Age. Where's that "Do Want" pic? I, unfortunately, am going to have to wait until I get a PS3 before I pick that one up. I know my computer won't handle it. I read the blurb Playstation Magazine had for it and decided that it, along with FFXIII are the games I must get for the PS3.

As for the Witcher, yeah, pretty much what Alias said about it. The game's good but you really want the "non-American" version of the game so you can get every aspect of it, without it beign censored.

And WB, be careful. Know who else wears monocles? Sorcerors.

I'm looking forward to Bioware's coming titles too. Mainly Mass Effect 2. Dragon Age hasn't quite caught my attention yet, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on it as more information shows up. One thing I heard that did sound interesting is that on an average play through you will only hear some 15% to 30% percent of the dialogue due to how much race and character trait specific it is.

After watching my flat mate playing though Star Ocean: The last hope, I have an extra reason to want Mass Effect 2, so I can show him how a real sci-fi rpg does things. Man the dialogue/characters/story in Star Ocean nearly made me throw up on multiple occasions.

Dragon Age and FFXIII are also coming to 360 by the way. You probably already knew that, but just in case that's relevant at all...

Oh Dragon Age coming to 360 is why I'm so excited. I'll be able to play.

Eh, until Xbox starts coming out with more games I like to play, I'll stick with Sony and Nintendo, but score on the multiplatform releases.

To each their own... if one system was truly inherently better the others would not sell.

Don't fool yourself. This is either a gross exaggeration, or some sort of marketing gimmick. You're still going to hear the same lines over and over and over again until you are thoroughly sick of them (combat grunts immediately come to mind), and if there is some variation, it's going to be something like "Fetch me my clothes, elf," as opposed to "Fetch me my clothes, woman," or "Fetch me my clothes, dwarf." If that statistic is accurate, they would probably count all three of those lines as completely separate, when in reality they're exactly the same.

That being said, if they do manage to pull through on this point, it will be SO bitchin.

That's marketing for you. Just like how Borderlands claims to have over half a million different weapons. Only half true. That's like saying the same thing about Diablo's weapons, just because they can have a large variety of different perks.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Oh yeah, so... the new PoP. It's... interesting. It's apparently set in a completely different universe than the original trilogy. No sands, different prince (actually it's never explicitly mentioned that the main character is the prince, he's very enigmatic about himself), about the only story-line things that are in common with the trilogy is that the prince has a donkey named Farah. Combat is... well, simplistic but very reflex-oriented. First off, it's always one on one. I can't for the life of me get the hang of anything reactionary except deflecting, and each boss have attacks that use one of four reactionary keys - attack, magic, gauntlet, jump. They barely give you enough time to see which key is on the screen and hit it before the boss clobbers you. And with my extremely slow reflexes, I get a successful counter in maybe 1 time out of ten. Which makes boss fights pretty long, considering they heal every time you fail one of these. And fights make up about five or ten percent of the game, especially since if you're quick enough, you can skip any battle except bosses, because every 'henchmen' battle gives you a set amount of time to get there before it spawns. So if you're quick with your platforming, and don't fall, it's possible to play the game while only entering combat with bosses - making for about 30 battles in the entire game.

As far as difficulty goes... the spirit of the game is less about challenge and more about the joy of seeing the prince do various amazing things. It's got more in common with watching a movie than most other games. I wouldn't say it detracts from it, though; even though there's not much challenge, just watching the prince leap from pillars, run along the ceilings, and be propelled several hundred meters by magic plates is fun enough to watch that I didn't really mind the lack of challenge.

I'd say it's worth playing. Definitely hit-or-miss, though, since Ubisoft basically revamped the entire thing, and only just resembles the previous games.

Hmmm... makes me a little iffy on it. I was never too keen on the graphics either when I saw the screen shots.

I dunno, maybe I'm too much a fangirl of the trilogy to want to see it changed so drastically. I probably won't pick it up for a long while. There's also too many other games grabbing for my attention to bother with something I'm not entirely sure I'm going to like or not.

It's similar enough that I still find myself reaching for the rewind button whenever I fall. =P

Added:

Also, I forgot to mention the game's main selling point - characterization. I LOVE the new prince. He's sarcastic, witty, cynical, and hilarious, and he does all this without revealing practically anything about himself. The banter between Elika and him is greatly entertaining, and the relationship they develop is awfully sweet. It's never explicitly stated that they fall in love or even are anything more than two people thrust into the middle of a conflict together, so you never have to deal with the cliched "sappy love story." It reminds me of Brennan and Booth on the show Bones. They're clearly in love by the time the game ends, but they have the sense not to make a move on one another. Both their VA's are fantastic, and the prince finally doesn't have that retarded accent-that-doesn't-sound-like-a-persian-accent-at-all. Dialogue is really well written.

Prince: Stop staring at my ass when we're climbing. I can feel you looking.
Elika: I thought you lost your ass.
Prince: Donkey.
Prince steps forward looking at the gate.
Prince: I can feel you looking!
Elika stares up into the sky and rolls her eyes in exasperation.

And that's not even one of the gems that develop their characters in any way.

You're forgetting one important factor with Star Ocean; it's a JRPG, so they aren't really going to do it truly as a sci-fi set game.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

So this here's been a long time coming ; I thought you'd understand..

Snide references aside, this is a tough post for me. I've been here a long time. As Rapture, as Pale, as an anonymous Lurker even before that. I've laughed and cried with you folks, lived and loved, loved and lost, changed in so many ways I can't begin to count them any more. This place, sorry collection of perverts as it is, has meant a lot to me in difficult times.

People make the place. Siphon. Copper. Chibi. Sinful. Pironious. XSI. Ili Jordan Cesasse. Aika. Nunu. And doubtless someone else really important I've missed off my list - whoever you are, I'm thinking of you as well! My heart goes with you all, and I wish you the very best path the world can offer you. With cobbles and everything.

Now, though, comes the hard part. I've lived my life on the clock, so to speak. A family history of dying young means I've always been aware that one day, all this could change. And after the events of the last few days, it's starting to look like the time is coming. I won't go into overabundant detail - such has never been my style. Simply let it be said best in the words of another. "I may not be back for some time."

Thank you for all your time.

Fuck.

I doubt this forum could go through a single greater loss. Well alright, if I got technical I could probably find some way to refute that... but I don't care.

Here's hoping your clock goes beyond the impossible, does the undoable... and if it can't, then for a bloody good respawn. Maybe as a Pratchett...

I enjoyed your presence.
