There's a pretty nasty trojan going around right now, it forces you to connect to a DNS which will store any information you send, this means any passwords, bank ID's and etc is in grave danger.

One of the dead, Jessica Ghawi, had just survived another shooting at the Eaton Centre in Toronto about a month before hand. One of the injured was just a baby.

This is really a disheartening thing to happen. No one should have to worry about just going out for a day or a date, or whatever. This is sickening.

I've been gearing there may be an insanity plea coming, the guy who did this was dressed as the Joker and even called himself so. I hate how sick minds acting out end up making the media start blaming the medium that gave them the idea instead of the fucked up person instead. Not everything can be censored and doing so would be a great disservice to humanity in general. As for the victims, this is god awful and I wish the survivors the fastest recovery possible.

You make a law forbidding guns and that only keeps guns out of the hands of the lawful. Gun laws may cut down on gun related crime slightly, but other violent crimes (knives, clubs, bats, ect) start shooting up in numbers.

I'm getting a concealed weapon permit and a purse gun soon. Then I will get lessons in marksmanship before I ever start carrying it on my person. I will learn how to clean it and take care of it well.

We should be less anti-gun and more responsible gun.

Research tends to indicate that the most successful ways to reduce violence are to provide social programs: Aid for the ill and mentally unwell, food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, etc. However I have recently been told all these things are communism, which is bad. People seem to prefer the state mandated control of firearms and police everywhere, which is closer to fascism. Which is good, I guess? I don't know anymore. News makes my head hurt.

Well as far as communisim being bad, if you have ever seen star trek, and I imagine if you've read any of the books too, you've gotten a view of the best case scenario for a communist society.

But gun control? No. More police? Yes. The US doesn't have enough police as it is, and soon will be relying on private security companies to pick up more and more of the slack. Which isn't an ideal outcome because the requirements to become a security guard are far more relaxed than those to become a police officer.

regardless of the law, law breakers will still have them so thats that.

lack of guns stops impulsive people from being capable of doing as much damage (on average).

Plentiful guns allows other people to defend themselves much more easily. It's a risk but is the net difference higher or lower damage... well i don't think there is a good study to quote on that one.

still, y'all should try to wind down gun control debate, i can't help but feel its a touch heavy for the news thread. if things pick up there is always the debate thread somewhere.
