Re: Le dernier saint chevalier

I think it is the order, "Le Dernier Saint Chevalier" vs "Le Dernier Chevalier Saint".

Or is it supposed to be; "La Dernière Sainte Chevalière" vs "La Dernière Chevalière Sainte"?
If I remember well, chevalier being a function, it doesn't need to be gendered and can stay masculine. So yeah the title is actually correct.

Its supposed to be La Dernière Chevalier Saint because Chevalier represent all of the knights woman or man and also Chevalière is a type of ring in french I know cause am from Quebec so jparle po mal bien quebecois:D:D:D
Wow, that's completely wrong dude :D

"Chevalier" is a noun in french. The gender is fixed as male. You can't but it as female.

Therefore, the official title seem correct. (although, depending of the meaning behind "saint", it might be placed after "chevalier").

By the way, in the same way, "chevalière" can only mean a signet / seal ring ^^

Re: Le dernier saint chevalier

This thread has reaffirmed my notion that genders in languages suck.

Re: Le dernier saint chevalier

Someone mixed Chevalier with Cavalier?

the 'Saint' vs 'Sainte' has been ignored again.
Not really for "saint" vs "Sainte". Since "chevalier" is male. The term "Saint" beeing linked to the male noun "chevalier" is bound to be also male => "saint".

As for the whole name, "saint" could be also translated (depending on the original word / meaning) as "sacré". And if it was so, it could be but at the end of the title => "Le dernier Chevalier sacré".

However, discussing the good name in french or any other language when it's the official title seem a bit off. Would be ebtter to discuss the whole game etc...

PS : beeing not wholy expert in french grammar, I accept the fact that I may be wrong, I could check it up with some other peoples to make certain if you need it :p

Re: Le dernier saint chevalier

Frenchman here again!

Chevalier is exclusively male gender. There was no woman (ok, maybe ) in the kinght order.

A chevalière is a seal-ring. There's no connection with knights.

So I repeat "Le Dernier Saint Chevalier" is a title with some kind of poetric form. It's correct.

Au revoir!

In our real world, but in fictional ones?
I found out that you can either:
- write "chevalier" for a woman, which is a correct usage, like I said before.
- write "chevaleresse" for either a knight's wife or a female knight.

The matter is not only fictional world. The game was created by JAPANESE developer. He follows Oriental literary tradition where female warriors were normal thing.

It is system, so it might go in a unstable way.
It might could become 15% next morning when they came across some free script pack or -50% by discover a big bug and have to redo stuff all together......

"Oriental literary tradition where female warriors were normal thing." What tradition? There is no such tradition. You could say that its perhaps a bit more common than Western tradition but even that is debatable. Female warriors are not a "normal thing" even in literature, its only been since recently that they have started to become much more common, due to feminist PC bullshit and male fetishes.

I think what you meant to say "Hentai literary tradition," cuz they are indeed a normal thing there. Anime/manga too, since that is essentially just an industry of marketing female characters to lonely virgin nerds.

It all depend of the country and the time your looking at.

The game title is in french, if you look at french history, there not a lot of fighting women....
Yet, if you look at the time between the just before the dark age and the midle age, women (at leat of a certain birth), were oftne trained in arm. During centuries, noble women where thus expected to lord over the manor/castle/town/land of their husband during his absence (for war ...), and it include organizing the land /town... defense, even leading soldier. Thus they were trained in batle. However, they weren't themselves "true knight".

Earlier, Manamana, bring out the world "Chevalresse". It exist. Officialy it mean either the wife of a knight, or a women fighting as (but not being) a knight.

It just that it's a time that fall out of common history book. Thus, it's overlooked.
(BTW, if using the world "chevalresse" for the title, you could put the whole title to the female gender => la dernière sainte chevaleresse - or depending of the meaning of "sainte" (bless by the surch, a holy knight...) it could be "la dernière chevalresse sacrée). Still, it doesn't feel good since most female word of tha period ending with -"resse" as a mark of the female gender compare to the male one where .... pejoratic word).

Still, yes, even in europe, there was a time when women fighting wasn't abnormal. But some (long) time ago, we (the society) put women in the house and erase the old way from memory.

Just read my walltext. Apologies. And I don't think it's worth going into a full debate about this. Still, it's a way to kill time, but it may end up in turning the thread into fire ...

Actaully there is, some warriors in orient history are indeed female.
Ofcorse there arn't much of them, but there are dozens of female war heros, or leaders.

Under Oriental I mean East and partly Central Asian literary tradition. Female protagonists are met in nomadic epic tradition. Even in old Arabic there some heroines like Dhat al-Himma to whom one old popular novel had been devoted.

I understand your detest to and, maybe, hidden concern of, "lonely virgin nerds". But it is way of life in the world (both developed and developing). To abstain from having sex and to spend more time in Internet is getting more and more popular as a life style. It is more healthy since it keeps your physical and emotional energy unexhausted by sexual turbulent life and stress. It makes your life longer in order to survive for better times in computer gaming and Internet development. You don't spend your money for your female/babe and save it for other spiritual purposes (buying rare books, collecting real objects of art and virtual pictures found and bought in Internet etc.). :)
