Actually I too want to ask the same question

For now , just use potion on the inventory
Luckyly at the beginning there are 3 potion , just use 2 of it for now

You don't for the first series of long falls. You're introduced to how to heal by this sequence.

Makes sense, since its impossible to get passed those falls without healing at least once.

It makes Hard Mode a living hell, since there's literally no bonfires from then on -past- the boss, basically leaving you with 90% health and no healing for the entire level

Can't you go back a bit and save the game on a checkpoint -before- the boss after defeating him?
