Re: [アスガル騎士団|RPG]ROBFS4U
Most of those people using translation patches have, in fact, not bought the game. It's unfortunate for those that actually did buy the game, but those are a minority. It's not like he relies on the few dozen to few hundred non-japanese buyers. Also, there is no difference between having the game+patch or just the patch. In the latter case people just get the game from nyaa or somewhere else.
Furthermore, having pirates uploading his games on English (and Chinese) sites does harm his sales, because Japanese people are in turn more likely to pirate the game as well.
On a side note: He actually considered at one point putting up his games on English DLsite. He asked people (in the comments) whether that would be reasonable or not. In the end he did not do this - probably because it would worsen the situation instead of improve it, especially since the game would still be in Japanese - but at least he considered alternatives.
I remember that someone from this forum did contact that guy (somewhere in the other ROBF thread) asking some questions. The game developer actually offered him help - not despite him being non-japanese - but because this person actually bought the game.
Some people here are acting as ignorant as they are pretending the game developer to be.
Sigh... that's just nonsense. It's not like the game developer is against people (including non-japanese) buying the game. It's about preventing those, who are less likely to pay for the game, to actually play the game. And while some of his actions are somewhat ridiculous, I can at least understand him. He just does not want that pirates play his game. That's fair enough. Thinking back to someone like the now banned user "anonymous", it seems very reasonable.Yep. Unfortunately the guy doesn't want even those who legally bought the product to even have a better understanding of the game even through modifying files only.
Basically, you play the game as a Jap fluent, or you play the game with impaired understanding.
The guy doesn't even let even just translation patches go... even if the main game isn't there.
