Couldn't find anything like this anywhere, and if it existed, it is probably dead, so why the hell not? I'm sure many of the forum's members like anime/manga, and I thought that this thread might create a topic to discuss and conversate over.

In this thread you can say whatever you feel about a manga/anime you just watched/read and give it a grade out of 10 or say your thoughts about it, if you liked it or not, the reason why and all of that stuff.

I'll start it off with the anime called "Chrome Shelled Regios", which I just finished watching in my scarce free time, and I'll give it a 6/10 because the story is hollow, seems incomplete, there are many placeholder characters, and many of them just piss me off a huge lot sometimes with their lack of logic and solid background. The main character is the typical bad ass, kind hearted hero with a 'dark' past, there is the typical bad guy who you never know who that is until the very end, and there are also other bad guys which come from nowhere with no explanation of who they are and all that.

For this anime, "Chrome Shelled Regios" it seems as if the people running it ran out of money and just gave a very fast, little detailed explanation of everything and finally, a lame happy ending. Not against happy endings, but this one is just stupid.

If you want to watch it, feel free to do so, but beware of the story 'cause you'll get easily lost mid-way. Of course, this is just my opinion.

Talk about anime/manga? Well, someone would get very angry about what i can say about some titles, so i'll just look this topic from afar.

I think it's the more "unexpected" opinions that spice things up. So please do share. Honestly, I could singlehandedly occupy the ranting/debate thread for days on end on how nowadays people are "right" just by feeling offended...

I don't watch much anime nowadays, still waiting for S3 of Rozen Maiden, that's the "DESU DESU DESU" one. Still can't really rate it, since S2 didn't really bring the story to a conclusion.

I'm not really a manga fan, I always kind of have to force myself. I do read some on and off, but I always try to imagine what they would be like if they were animated. Although I get that the drawings are (in most cases) an art form of itself.
Some anime I watched over and over again simply because of the soundtrack, Ah! My Goddess for instance. But that's also because there are whole episodes about nothing besides peace and quiet, I kinda liked that. And I obviously liked Sankarea, as you can tell by my avatar.

You know what, I don't think I will be able to contribute much in this thread just yet, so I'll stop right here. However I think it's a good idea to have a thread like this and am excited about how things will develop.

Tenchi Muyo! and its spin offs are classic imo, I also love Neon Genesis Evangelion, i have the original OAV Oh!My Goddess, Sailor moon makes my list, I also enjoyed DNA Squared. Azumanga Daioh is a fun watch and if you just want to kill brain cells and veg out I would reccommend Excel Saga. :3

I have to agree with you on that one. I liked the setting of it, but there was just too much lost potential.

Most recent for me I suppose would be Shingeki no Kyojin (or Attack on Titan in english). I'm enjoying the series quite a bit due to feeling like there hasn't been much anime other than slice of life/comedy types lately. Seeing these giant beings eating people and the gear the humans use to fight them in animation is quite the sight. My problem with the anime is it is stretching things out too much in order to not catch up on the manga (you should never have an Part 9 in the title of an episode), which is common. However, it just feels far more noticeable than others.

Attack on Titan is the hypest shit and super original. Though I believe they started the anime too soon, probably due to how popular the manga was. The art style is quite interesting, seems simple yet different. And the story is pretty good too.

I want to recommend to all of ya nerds out there to watch (preferably read) 'Berserk'. It's messed up on the most of it, but the world it's set in and the story is just beautiful.

Lots of rape though. And blood. And mass murder everywhere. Oh and also tears. Loads of tears. Coming out of your eyeballs mostly.

Re: Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

"Rape, arson, murder and rape." "You said 'rape' twice." "I like rape."

I won't say that sums up Berserk, but, well... Personally, I'd recommend reading the manga as opposed to watching the anime (although the out-takes are frigging hilarious.), since they cut a lot out of the anime and, well, it stops roughly about halfway through the manga. They don't even touch on what happens after disc 6 and there's plenty of more manga volumes after that (as my library will attest.)

Right now, I've been watching Ouran Host Club, which is really good for mindless fun, and yet, at the same time, brings up a lot of good points about gender roles. Not to mention it's pretty much a send up of every romance manga/anime trope out there and its a good time, if best taken in small doses.

I've also been seeing previews for "Save me, Lollipop" which also looks like crazy stupid fun. Might have to pick it up on the cheap if I can find it. Also want to get my paws on Hakuoki (Historical badassery with a reverse harem thing going on, at least via the games anyway, heh.) but I'm not dropping 40 bucks for one season right now.

Re: Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

I started watching a few days ago, and it seems like it could lead to something interesting later

however, I'm not sureif I'll finish watching the series because I find the main character difficult to understand (not because he's a shut-in)

Re: Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

So, let's see...

Fantasista Doll: just bad, i feel my life going away when i'm watching.

Fate/Kaleid Prisma Illya: i was expecting that anime since i finished the second manga, and it looks right what i want: a new Fate that doesn't ends in shit.

Dogs x Scissors: Strange sinopse, good anime. Really, i still don't understand a very big number of things from there but the comedy is funny. And the fights look good.

There others, but i don't have the will to talk about them now.

Re: Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

I'm mainly a viewer of classic shonen & seinen anime such as Kinnikuman, Hokuto No Ken, Golgo 13, Mobile Suit Gundam, Lupin the Third, etc. I pretty much collect figurines of characters from these franchises (well it's just Kinnikuman, but I'm planning to expand to Gundam and perhaps HNK soon enough)

Personally I'd rather watch all nine of those probably crappy Rapeman movies than to ever watch any schoolgirl comedy series like Lucky Star, Haruhi Suzimaya (Not exactly a comedy but a drama, but it's still about schoolchildren and thus will NEVER be watched by me) , K-on!, and paractically anything else that the stereotypical otaku thinks is so "Kawaii" when it really comes off to me as very mundane and annoying, the whole Schoolgirl aspect will never reach me as a central element of a series (ex. Osu! Karate Bu is centered around a High School and its Karate Club in which the main characters are members of).

Haruhi Suzumiya is definantly not a comedy series
yes, it's in a modern Japanese high school setting, but the series is pretty well developed and interesting. the anime doesn't cover the entire story of the novels and isn't as detailed, but watching the anime would give you an idea of if you'd enjoy the novels

Not that I'd ever know, If anything the only schoolgirl anime I'd ever take a glimpse at is Sailor Moon, only because the Sailors are out and fighting otherworldly foes like they are rather than just spending the enitire series with a mundane schoolgoing life like how it starts out, if I want mundane reality I'll live it... I don't need to have it anything I seek entertainment in unless it's something I'd like to do.

n why's that?
by not trying out animes just because they seem to be a certain type, you're ignorin interesting plots. the first time I tried watching Haruhi, I thought it was really borin n had no point. now, the novels are my favourite books

from what you've said, it seems to be that you only watch older animes and discriminate against modern animes for whatever reason

That is true for what I think of most animes nowadays which is bizzare for my age, even though I have been watching some modern anime shows such as A Woman called Fujiko Mine and the 2008 Golgo 13 series, those are merely modern iterations of old franchises.

I could get into an entirely modern series if I try, it's going to take a lot more to get into it and than simply picking it up since the typical little things like unnecessary romance sub-plots, fan-service and annoying or very unlikeable characters can ruin it for me. For example if I give Black Lagoon or Attack on Titan a chance I could get into it given some things make up for anything I don't like about it.

Attack on Titan is interesting, but I think it takes a bit too long to get to the interesting points

Haruhi has two fanservice scenes early on. I'll admit that one character's design could have been made so for fanservice, but she's still an important character in the show and novels. her description in the novels matches up to her design in the anime
(if you haven't picked up yet, I'd like for you to at least acknowledge that Haruhi isn't a comedy show (along with that, I recommend the show))

Re: Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

Last time I tried to watch an anime a friend tried to get me into something, I don't remember what. I watched about ten episodes and was really bored, at which point I was told it doesn't get good til episode thirty, at which point I dropped it because I'm not watching ten hours of horseshit to get to the good stuff.

Anime really isn't my speed, I guess.

Well it can be annoying if others constantly sit by and tell you what to look out for, when something cool comes up next and what parts you have to like especially. It's like they're afraid you will dislike them if you don't like their recommendations.

Re: Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

I finished watching "Kaiji" yesterday and was really confused as to if I liked it or not.

The art style is so different to what I have ever seen; all of the characters are sort of ugly, not idealized and perfect, though solid. Even the main character is mega ugly, and barely any women appear in the whole series, so it's rather interesting.

The whole story is set around a lowlife character who's life is revolved around knifing rich people's cars and eating pre made food. One day he is drowned in debt and is offered to erase it all by boarding a ship. I shall not be a spoiler, but the whole series is about how this guy suffers A LOT and is desperate on erasing all of his debts and getting rich.

Interesting, though dissappointing at some point. Impossible not to spoil it if I explain it, so I'll leave it at that.

7.5/10, only because the ending was not quite, "nice". I recommend it if you want to watch something completely different from the 'kawaii' and generic art style and story.

Re: Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

I've been watching Jormungand lately, and I am loving the animation art style, especially the faces. It's about an arms dealer and her group of bodyguards (including a recent addition of a child soldier to her group) as they traverse the world selling wares with plenty of action by means of out manipulating other arms dealers, fighting mercenaries sent to kill them, etc.

Only complaint is in the fighting every once in awhile, but suspension of disbelief when it comes to guns in animes I suppose...
