Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B8 (Updated November 10th, 2013)

Anyone having any issues? Suggestions? Bugs?

I'd consider posting a tutorial but I have no idea if anyone's having any issues at this point.

Still working. All 6 children's events done. Just need to fix up the existing monsters now, then I can go on adding more dungeon levels, more monsters, etc..

I've been wondering.. should I just simplify it and have it completely random which child you get from any monster/sex event?
Would certainly make things easier for me and more interesting for the players.

Could possibly get frustrating too though.. but I plan on shortening the gestation cycle anyway.

Just posting here to give the author my moral support (I suck at doing this kind of stuff, specially with a language that's not my main).

Amazing game Paradox, keep up the good work. If I think on any good suggestions I'll post them here.

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B8 (Updated November 10th, 2013)

Downloaded and tried it for a bit since I support indie developers.

General:
You have an audio directory, might as well keep organized and put squirtXX.wav in there somewhere.
Disabled save button in menu confused me until I tried to sleep. If RPG Maker gives you a good way to remove it, I'd recommend that.

English/Grammar:
in the tutorial: ...press the X key to *open up the status screen...
...it's good to be *a fairy... - if she's not the only fairy in existence, 'a' should be used

Opinionated:
Would be nice to have a way to get back to the tutorial somehow. Or as you suggested post a tutorial (don't make it too hard on yourself, you can just copy/paste what you currently have in-game in the forums so we can remember things like what warmth does it gets too low).
I got tired of getting poisoned/wounded near the end, but that's probably because I had -14 warmth.

Haven't played too far in. I'm more of a short casual gamer who likes to thoroughly explore an area before moving on, so having played for an hour and still killing spiders/rats was a bit slow for me. I admit the game is pretty good relative some others around, but it isn't exactly my cup of tea.

Good luck!

I can't speak for the creator so I'm not positive, but I'm 99% sure the "the" (rather than "a") was intentional. That was most likely done as a homage to the famous Mel Brook's quote " "

That's how I always image her saying it, anyway. ;)

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B8 (Updated November 10th, 2013)

Thanks Luckycrazy. Looking forward to any and all suggestions. :)

I know, my audio is a mess, but I just don't quite feel like there's a need to organize it. If I do rename the files then the events that use those would likely crash the game if I didn't find all the triggers for those sounds and reassign them.

I haven't thought much about the disabled save button. I'll make a note of it and check into it at some point.

Thanks for noticing my misspell of "open". I'm so bad to misspell stuff and then miss it while testing. Fixed it for 1B9.

"It's good to be the fairy" is just a slight nod/reference to "It's good to be the king".
Edit: @Trigon: Yes. :)

Okay, I'll make a note of adding the tutorial information here in the thread.

I think there's about 56 monsters in the tutorial in all. Should I reduce that number? I guess I figure that it balances out well vs other games because the monsters don't come back.

Also, you don't have to kill them all. Killing at least 50 in the tutorial will get you the Troll's Ring, but it's entirely possible to skip them and just go straight to the 2 bosses.

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B8 (Updated November 10th, 2013)

This is pretty good so far. I like the new tutorial streamlined tutorial.

I think I found a bug at the end of the tutorial, though. I made to the 2nd boss room after slowly killing all of the regular enemies and getting almost all of the items. Before going past the point of no return in the second boss room, I was trying backtrack to the house to rest and restore stamina and I guess I ran out of time. When I got back to the surface she said something like "It's way too late for me to be out..." and the scene switches to the house. However, it seems to be be bugged because even after resting, the house is really dark and I can't see Sienna on the screen. I can move her around and iteract with items, but she is invisible and the screen doesn't move with her like normal.

The below screenshots hopefully show it better than my explaination.

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B8 (Updated November 10th, 2013)

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll try to find the problem and fix it before 1B9.

Edit: I found the problem and fixed it. Maybe I can go ahead with 1B9 soon to fix some of these issues.

For now, if possible, you can fix the problem by simply finding your way to the exit of her house. The lantern light event would then reset.

Edit 2: If you can get her up to the wall just below the flower portrait, just go 4 spaces left, then go all the way down.

Wow, this is one hell of a improvement.
The last version I played had this huge forest, and I did not know what to do.
But this Intro is amazing, I really enjoyed playing through it.

I had only one problem - my wand broke after I killed to many opponents, and I could no longer escape. thats practicaly an unavoidable death.

Still, this will become one hell of a game. I'm sure of it.
I look forward to the next big update ;)

Also, I would welcome some sort of changelog. So I know what's new and what not.

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B8 (Updated November 10th, 2013)

Thanks. :)

Yeah losing your wand early can be a bit harsh. I need to put in a warning system for when your wand gets low. A little red wand icon on the screen would be just swell. I'll make a note of it.

I might go back at some point and just return Sienna to her house if she loses to an Intro monster. Aside from the evil plant and boss fights of course.

Hmm.. a changelog... But I suck at being organized. xD
I may try to do that at some point. Usually when I update I'll make a new post and try to mention all the changes. I'm sure it gets lost though.

This is my first time playing this game and....

Jesus Christ. This is like those Skyrim realistic need mods. This will take a while to learn.

Edit: Wow. I must be freaking stupid, but how do you defeat the evil plant outside your house. It seems to have infinite health.

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B8 (Updated November 10th, 2013)

Sorry, I might have given that thing just a wee bit too much health.
I'm considering reducing it from 500 to 250.

I know it can be annoying, but if you keep attacking it then it does eventually die. There is the possibility that it will defeat one of your characters, preventing them from gaining exp at the end of the fight. Rosevynne is just there for that one fight though so it doesn't matter if it's her.

It is possible that he will paralyze one character and then exclusively hit the other one until they die. There's a very slim chance of this happening though.

Don't forget to use the bed to save before heading outside. I wish I had made a note somewhere in the tutorial on how to save, but I didn't. xP

Edit: Rosevynne will have Restore Life in future versions.

I lose to the evil plant twice before I finally managed to defeat it. It really is too difficult for a starting fight.

I am on dungeon level 4 now, and continuing to grind downwards. I am starting to worry if this game is just a dungeon explorer with no content (I know it's not :D). I am getting instant KO'ed by the bosses (the dragon and the spider) which was a little unnerving. I guess I will just have to keep going down.

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B8 (Updated November 10th, 2013)

Sorry about the evil plant. I'll see what I can do to tone it down for future versions.

The boss fights are always about watching their pattern, which never changes. Once you find the right spot to stand in it's usually simple. The early bosses you can wait out. Later on they keep repeating a pattern.

I will likely replace the insta-death in boss fights at some point with health loss, if I can figure out how to keep those events running after they bump into Sienna.

On a side note. I noticed the leaves still give 6 items once you reach level 1 alchemy. Weird. My math, somewhere, must be wildly inaccurate.
Also noticed low spirit Sienna losing to monsters gives an inappropriate smile. Oops. xP Will be fixed for 1B9.

Edit: I just finished fixing up the Golem and Lurker using the new pregnancy system. Saved me a LOT of time. Those 2 golems and the lurkers should be fully functional in 1B9.
I think I'll remove the fishing rod from the merchant. I'd like to work on a gambling system. I may let the merchant take care of that...?

nice game accidently played it for a hour XD(which pretty much means i.ve token a interest in it :p) but poor poor rosevynne I was hoping to keep her for awhile (im a care bear ...starting to think I shouldn't be playing these types of games lol) im going to read the other posts in a bit but o got to ask do we get vengeance on that spider and that succubus? and um those monsters in the dungeon the one to the right hit like really freaking hard D: 30 - 48 dmg per hit ...with only 72 L :(

hm so there is a item we get for fighting in the beginning? glad I saved there XD

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B8 (Updated November 10th, 2013)

There's actually a point where you can decide what Sienna wants. Freedom or vengeance.
I can't really say more than that but I do have at least 4 different endings in mind.
As of now.. there's no hope of vengeance because I just simply haven't finished making the game yet. xP

And yeah, I accidentally made those monsters harder when I was making the tutorial monsters give decent damage. (oops). In 1B9 they should hit a little less hard.

They're not impossible though, unless you're really unlucky. Until I can get 1B9 released I'd suggest saving before each fight, only fight Abyssians, and do the lever & fans puzzle so you can access the first boss there to get the fire spell, which makes mopping up Dungeon monsters a lot easier.

For killing the tutorial monsters in the 4 cave levels:
The gold box tells you how many of them you killed. 50 monsters? 50 gold.
The red box appears if you killed 30 of them. 5 life potions.
Blue box for 40. 5 magic potions.
And finally green box for 50, which gives the troll ring.

When playing through the intro, I opened up the chest early when the game gave me control of the character - when I tried leaving it told me I needed to open the chest, trapping me inside.

Where is this? In the starting house?

Do you have the wand equipped?
The event checks to see if you have it equipped and then has Sienna react as if the wand is still in the box, regardless if it's there or not.

I'll have it fixed for 1B9. She won't mention the chest if she already has the wand.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but is there any suicide item in case we become *ahem* too strong?

I wasn't sure what you meant at first, then I realized you mean if you wanted to lose to the monsters on purpose. There will be an item like that. I don't think I've actually placed it in the game yet though.

Just wanted to say I finally found the problem with the Leaves in the Alchemy Lab. Thanks so much to everyone who pointed that out.

Both the recipe producing too much and the processing not happening when you run out of leaves will both be fixed in 1B9.

Thinking about uploading 1B9. Go ahead or wait till I have more content? I think I'd like to get some more Crypt levels added in first.
