Chapter Two
Who Rules the Ruins

Endus city of Splendor or it used to be. Rikke walked the once busy streets of this former trading hub with Jess not to far behind. Two years ago before the invasion Endus was once of the major trading centers of Crolia but now it was just a shell of its former glory the aliens having abducted or killed a great many of its citizens and the resulting battle with the survivors decimated what was left of the city. Though to be fair Endus did survive better than most major cities the ever present mercenaries that called this place home saw to its defense and prompt pillaging after the invaders left. Still it seemed life was slowly coming back to Endus as the sudden disappearance of large numbers of its citizens allowed the refuges of other cities and rural folk fleeing the prospect of Orc enslavement and the safety of city walls with a chance to gain employment.

All these poor people” Rikke looked over at her traveling companion of some weeks now. Jess was dressed in travailing cloths that where a little skimpy in places. She had on black and red leather armor that looked far to skanky to be of practical use. But than again Jess of all people had taught Rikke that looks can be deceiving. Looking at Jess Rikke noted that the succubus had hidden her tail and openly carried her blades letting everyone that saw her know that she was armed and would not be an easy target. She was a red haired bombshell with perfect proportions and an angelic face that hid the fact that a few months ago she was an aggressive sexual predator. But for now the beast was tamed a fact that Rikke enjoyed quite frequently. Letting her thoughts drift about what she wanted to do to the red head made Rikke almost miss the fact someone was trying to get their attention.

Miss adventure! Hey Miss over here! Mam can I get your attention!” Mam? How old dose this boy think I am? Looking over at the young man Rikke could see that he was indeed a young boy wearing a pages outfit. He couldn't be no more than 10 or 12 with straight brown hair and child like face.

Re: An Easy Score (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"You sure we aren't lost?" the girls slowly made their way through the city "Don't worry I know exactly where we are." Rikke nodded assuringly "Then I presume you really like this statue" Jessica casually points out a nearby ruined statue "Since we're passing it for like the fourth time" Rikke glanced over to the object with the worst pokerface this side of Crolia "It's a popular diety..." The red haired girl could only raise an not amused eyebrow at her "guide", they've been at this for about an hour now. Honestly, getting this tangled in a single block likes this was an accomplishment.

A deep sigh escaped Rikke "Fine wait here, I'll go ahead and check it out" Jessica blinked a few times "I'm not sure that's such a good i--" "I'll be right back! Don't move!" the heroine rushed slightly forward glancing through the streets 'There has to be a inn or a bath-house around here somewhere!' In full honesty Rikke had only been to the city once and very briefly... but she did kinda brag to Jess about her constant visits here...

'Pick the wrong routes enough times and you're bound to hit the right one... like this one' Picking out their next attempted route to a resting spot Rikke slowly started making her way back to her companion. She could swear there weren't this many people around, seemed the two girls became quite the highlights of the block. Exceptional beauty in questionable armor does that. A sly smirk crossed the girls face, what if they gave them a slight show 'Perhaps a simple kiss', though before she could go through with her tease a small boy caught her attention.

"Miss adventure! Hey Miss over here! Mam can I get your attention!" Rikke looked down to the kid and leaned closer "Hey there lil guy. What's up?"

Unrelated, but needs to be noted:

Re: An Easy Score (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"Miss your presence is requested by the Lord Deputy Mayor Vincent DeGravel please follow me." The short page not waiting for Rikke answer began to march off down the street with out paying heed to whether Rikke had begun to follow him or not. Several rough looking mercenaries chuckled at the exchange and quickly started drinking again from the ale cups held in their hands. Both of them not subtly eying Rikke up and down no doubt telling what was on their minds.

'Lord Deputy Mayor...' well this didn't seem like an invitation one simply dismisses, but she wasn't exactly reknown... so what's with this invitation. Still if she'll wants some answers it's best to follow the page, goodness knows she won't ever find the estate herself.

"Jessica! This way! Hurry!" Rikke beckoned her companion over, keeping an eye on kid, but glancing back making sure Jess could catch up, follow her.

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Jessica came running as Rikke called her assets barley held at bay by her less than typical attire. This of course had the other effect of the mercenaries chasing them with cat calls and whistles. "Rikke wait up Rikke!" Rikke smiled slightly even though Jess's body was exquisite eye candy her endurance not related to the bedroom was some what lacking and she was breathing a little heavy as she ran up the ally to catch up with Rikke. "So you finally remembered huh?" Rikke didn't say anything as she kept her eye on the young page meandering through the streets. "So where are we going Rikke?" "Im not sure someone asked to see me so I guess we are heading to the meeting." Rikke did her best to fill Jess in on what was going on but as she didn't have all the answers it didn't take very long. With Jess caught up they where free to talk freely the brightly clothed page easily seen as he stood out amongst the dreary greys and browns of the buildings around them.

After what seemed to be ten minutes of walking they finally came to a run down Mansion with two less than presentable guards wearing dirty colors and shabby armor standing at the gate. Both men where dirty and smelly and from the empty bottles near them most likely drunk . The page walked right by them as if he owned the place and proceed up a worn overgrown flagstone path to a equally battered and worn door. As they passed the threshold Rikke's well trained eye could see the lock had been tampered with and was all together useless. Something was off the page looked out of place in this ruined hall and while Rikke didn't feel threatened or in danger yet she knew all to well how fast that could change.

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Now Rikke might be freespirited and optimistic, but she wasn't naive. "Jess, keep your blades at the ready... I've got a bad feeling about this" the girl whispered to her companion, as she herself placed one of her hands on her sheath. Though rushing to conclusions is always a bad idea, but this place seemed all too suspicious, just too many red lights. On the other hand the whole place was ruined, best to play along for now, things may be not what they appear.

"Tell me, page. Why does the Lord Mayor stay in such a raggedy place? Seems hardly fitting." Though Rikke did start some small talk, her eyes continiously scanned her surroundings, caution was in her nature afterall.

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"The Deputy Mayor" Rikke caught a hint of distaste in the pages words "has occupied this structure as it is the only mansion left out side the quarantine that still has its walls." The page lead them to the right of the entrance and stopped before another set of doors with another equally shabby guards. "As requested by the Lord Deputy Mayor two more adventures have been summoned to hear his plea." The two "guards" looked at Rikke and Jess their eyes never meet their faces. "Aye we seem ya git no off ya go" the guard kicked at the page who dodged away a look of hatred and disgust clear in his eyes. "How rude you barbarian." Brushing himself off even though kick came no where close to him the young page looked up at Rikke. "Miss if you ever want more pleasant company than these braggarts just knock on the door to the far left of the hall." This caused the guards to laugh and snort loudly with the second guard speaking in a big dumb voice. "Eh the little bugger thinks the ladies would want to visit him ha." "Ha your right Jorice the little blighter would have no idea what to do with such fine ladies." "Heh run off ya little bugger let me and Phelb handle the ladies." The page's face went flush with either anger or embarrassment maybe both before he spoke again. "That is not what I meant you oaf." "Who cares what you meant boy run along before I box yer ears again." The guard named Phelb made a lunging motion that sent the page jumping back a little before the young man stately turned around and headed to the door he had mentioned before.

With that business out of the way and a few more chuckles from the guards they opened the doors and let Rikke and Jess through with exaggerated bows. As Rikke and Jess entered they could see this was some sort of meeting hall with a long table and an overly stuffed chair at it head that didn't fit the decor at all. In it sat a rather skinny man with small beady eyes long nose and thin lips. He had black oily hair and worn gaudy finery that Rikke was sure even from this distance looked fake. Over all he gave of the impression of a rat. How ever he was not alone several other figures sat at the table in various attire. One looked to be a priestess her cloths very basic and bland she sat nervously fidgeting her fingers trying to avoid eye contact with everyone. At her side sat a old battle worn Knight of the church keeping a watchful eye over her. Across from her an elegant Anudorian dressed in the fine silks that the region was known for. Her skin was chocolate colored and she had Black hair tied in a series of braids. She wore gold jewelry and dark brown eyes. A little father down a fat balding man in similar clothing as the rat man and sat stuffing his face. A little further from the nun and knight sat an old man his hair grey and eyes clouded he had simple robes and was accompanied by a young woman also wearing simple robes her face hidden by her hood.

Upon entering the majority of the assembled persons looked at Rikke and Jess some with curiosity others distaste. However the rat like man spoke first drawing the attention back to himself. "Ahh more adventures" his voice gave the impression of a slippery snake "Im glad you headed our summons. Iam Lord Deputy Mayor Vincent DeGravel." Several snorts echoed in the room but the Deputy Mayor continued to speak. "You have been called here for a chance at employment. You see a trinket of little monetary worth but of great social value was lost during the invasion and..." "Enough of your slithery words DeGravel" The old knight spoke his voice gravely his sudden outburst causing the young priestess to jump in surprise. "Tell these "adventures" what exactly you want or Ill tell them myself." DeGravel looked at the old knight not hiding the contempt in his eyes. "Very well Richard. As I was saying this item is important as it is the badge of office and we need it returned to me..." "NO returned to us." The elegant Anudorian spoke her southern accent quite pleasing to the ears. "We will vote on the next ruler when it is returned." "I will not be told the law by a whore." DeGravel spoke anger clearly in his voice. "Hold your tongue DeGravel lest I remove it from you. Sasha is right about the law no matter her profession."
The old blind man spoke his raspy voice barely audible over DeGravel but its effect was apparent immediately as the rat man quickly shut his trap and sat down. "Now please my young adventures will you undertake this quest? We need the medallion to restore order and continue to rebuild our city."

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke raised an eyebrow at the offer. Well this little council seemed legit, guess she could relax a bit. Placing one hand on her hip, the girl paused a moment and replied to the offered quest.

"Ho~ this medallion sounds important... no doubt the fair council offers a suitable reward." Rikke leaned closer to the bunch infront and smiled mischievious, denarii seemingly glinting in her eyes. The rogue usually had no problem with helping folks out, but this little job had quite the potential for monetary gain... just how much could she squeeze out of this inner circle.

"Typical!" The old knight spoke disdain evident in his voice. "Greedy adventures always out for coin never to help those in need." The young priestess suddenly put her hand on the knights arm and squeezed gently which seemed to pacify the old knight somewhat. "I still say we send for members of the church to retrieve the medallion." Old Man in robes spoke next. "Now Richard we decided on using adventures so no single group could claim the medallion and to maintain the cities democratic rule." The old blind man suddenly bent over in a sever coughing fit. "Master Saul please take it easy your not well rest." The young woman quickly rose from her seat the sudden motion letting a strand of bright pink hair escape her hood before she tucked it back into place and tended to her master. The Anudorian woman spoke her tone all business. "Still the the adventure is right. It will be a dangerous mission they should know how much they will receive if they are successful." DeGravel's oily voice filled the room. "The offer is 500 denari for the successful return of the medallion. What say you."

'Five! Five--- hundred!' Rikkes face froze for moment, she had to keep a straight face! Nope no use, she didn't even know how 500 denarii looked like, getting this much just seemed crazy!

The rogue quickly turned her head towards her companion and as if whispering covererd half of her face. Though it wasn't really so much to whisper, but more to hide her excitement "FIVE HUNDRED!" Rikke mouthed the sum to Jess who seemed to be sturggling to contain her giddyness just like the heroine.

Taking a a deep breath Rikke slowly regained her posture and coughed lightly "Seems reasonable..." the skinny man grinned, but the girl quickly interupted him whatever reaction would follow "BUT what's the catch?" the rogues eyes sharpened, no way were these people going to give up 500 denarii for something simple. "Don't even think of saying there's no catch. I'm listening."

"There is of course a catch." DeGravel's slimy voice replied. "The medallion is located in the guaranteed section of the city. Which is full of murderous gangs left over alien invaders and the Gods only no what else. Also the whole affair needs to be hush hush or the citizenry may revolt or panic. If you accidentally leak this information then not only would you forfeit any compensation but you will be declared Persona non grata for the rest of your life in the city and counties of Endus." A small silence fell over the assembled personage before any of them spoke again. "I know it seems harsh but if you understood the nature of the medallion you would understand why we must keep the peasants from knowing that its missing." The Anudorian woman had spoke her voice reserved and for the most part sympathetic. "Please let us know if you would take the mission if you uninterested we need to find some other sell swords and soon."

"Rikke can I talk with you a moment?" Rikke looked over at her shoulder at Jess her face showing the signs of excitement but also nervousness.

Rikke smiled warmly at her companion and nodded. "I presume you wouldn't mind if we took some time to consider this" the rogue adressed the council.
She wasn't travelling alone anymore and this had all the hallmarks of an exceptionally dangerous adventure. No need to rush to a decision, besides she still wanted that bath.

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"I suppose thats not out of the question given that you would be risking your life and that of your companion." The older knight had spoke his mood seeming eased from moments before. Soon after however the slippery voice of DeGraval filled the air yet again. "Yes by all means think it over however if some other adventures come along and take the commission then you only have yourselves to blame for the competition." The old knight threw a disgusted look at DeGraval but was interrupted before he could say anything by Sasha. "Ignore that pompous fool no one should act so rashly if their life is on the line take all the time you need. But be aware you are not the only ones on the mission and only one group can claim the prize." DeGraval sneered at the Southern lady but said nothing. "Here ladies I offer you the use of the private rooms at my establishment that is if you don't mind the company or business we conduct." With that Sasha handed Rikke a slip of fine paper that smelled of perfume and other.. things.

With that Rikke was ushered out of the room and to the waiting eyes of Jess who shifted her wait from foot to foot eager to her news and ask questions. "Rikke are they really offering 500 denari?" Rikke simple nodded in the affirmative. "Wow Ive never seen that much money all at once even when I worked in the Manor." Rikke remained silent turning the folded slip of paper over in her hand. It was going to be dangerous gangs, aliens, and who knew what else. Did she really want to risk it? Not to mention the council seemed divided almost to the point of open hostility no telling if each group had their own operatives actively looking for the medallion. She needed more information about the factions but her brief time here before didn't lend itself to find any contacts and sense the invasion any she might have known were probably dead. This was a big decision not to be taken lightly.

Opening the paper Sasha had given her proved to be a flyer with directions to the Silken Princess the most diverse brothel in Crolia. Humm go figure....

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

'The Silken Princess' Of all things certain in the world a fact always stood firm, brothels always have the best rooms in the whatever city they are. And judging by the owner this one would no doubt be a treat.

"Looks like we'll be getting that deluxe bath I promised you after all" Rikke raised the flyer and winked cheerfully at Jessica. The red haired girl blinked a few times "A brothel?" Rikke raised an eyebrow a sly smirk prominent on her face "Don't tell me you've never been to a proper brothel before, Jess" the heroine lightly chuckled as the two girls made their way out "Well I rarely left the manor grounds and..." the heroines inner succubus was no doubt reveling in whats to come, making Rikkes actions all the more risque, her voice taking on a lustier tone "Oh~ Don't worry. Something tells me you'll love it there."

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke and Jess proceeded to follow the directions on the flyer slowly navigating the crooked junk filled streets. As it turned out several of the major streets where still under reconstruction so Rikke and Jess had to improvise with various short cuts. Thankfully they always seemed to find the right street they where looking for and only had to backtrack a few times. However on one of these few backtracking streets Rikke and Jess had the unfortunate luck of running into Six rough looking men with obvious ill intent.

"Hey there Lasses Me and the boys here own this street and you've done trespassed. So now you pay the fine right boys." Several gruff chuckles and snorts echoed in approval of the leaders comments. 'Damn not good' Rikke thought to her self while keeping a cool almost coy outer demeanor. They where out numbered but Rikke and Jess to some degree where skilled swords women. The question was this however did she want to start a fight right here and was Jess up for it? Practice and sparring matches where one thing but when your life was actually on the line is when men become mice or so her old tutor told her. Rikke's thoughts where interrupted by the leader speaking again. "Now we could do this the easy way or the hard way." A devilish grin crossed the mans face. "The easy way if you where wondering sweet thing was you drop your gold and your pants. Then me and the boys have our fun and leave you no worse for it even if a little broke. Now the hard way is we take your gold and keep you for a few days to enjoy our company. Who knows maybe you'll even start to enjoy it like our current whore and stay." Some more laughs "Hell she could use some female company though she might get jealous that she would have to share the cum." Even more laughter and snorts.

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke's eye twitched in pure repulsion. This was the same mold scum that scourged her so many years back. Oh~ no, there would be no witty comeback or chatter with these bastards.

Rikkes reply would be swift and true. She glanced over to Jess with sharp concentrated eyes seemingly telling the red haired girl her next intention. It was time to free the city from a few of it's less than admirable citizens.

"The fuck you standin there? Boys! Help the lasses off w---" the bastard didn't even manage to finish his sentence as Rikke had already initiated her answer.

Let's carve up some rapists.
Quick Draw kicks in - Rikke draws her weapon without wasting a turn.
Duelist kicks in
A character with this Talent gets +10 to Dodge and +2 to all damage rolls so long as they are using a single weapon in one hand and nothing in the other
Fencer kicks in vs any armed opponents.
You are more adept at facing an enemy that wields a weapon, as such you have a better chance at parrying and dodging their attacks as well as delivering your own. When fighting against an enemy wielding a weapon of any kind you gain +4 bonus to Dodge against their attacks, gain a +4 bonus to attack, and deal an additional +4 damage per attack. Requires Duelist.
Rikke uses Lightning Strikes, 3 strikes on the nearest enemy. If he dies early use the remaining strike on any random.
The character attacks three times instead of only once, but each attack takes a -12 penalty to its attack roll and a -6 penalty to damage. These attacks need not be against the same creature. Requires Duelist.

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rolls: And now the s*** hits the fan.
Rikke Attacks 3 times: 39, 49, and 37 vs 35, and 35 all hit. 54 dmg 1st target (31+33-10) 26 dmg 2nd target (31-5)
Jess draws and attempts to enchant her blades: 29vs dc 20 success Jess gains 7 fire damage for melee attacks.
Bad#2 attacks Rikke 49 vs 53 miss
Bad#3 attacks Rikke 45 vs 53 miss
Bad#4 attacks Rikke 48 vs 53 miss
Bad#5 attacks Jess 43 vs 43 hit! 14 dmg (23-9) 8 dmg to Jess's armor
Bad#6 attacks Jess 39 vs 43 miss

Rikke wasted no time launching into her attack with fierce vigor that surprised even her. Her first two strikes easily toppled the so called leader before he even had a chance to lift his blade while her third scored a nasty hit on next nearest foe. The poor fools with their clubs and shabby mismatched armor would stand little chance against her. Still they pressed the attack 3 of them rushed Rikke all at once their clumsy blows coming close but never close enough. Two others rushed passed Rikke and engaged Jess but nearly hesitated as her short blade ignited in black fire a trick she had never seen her use before. Unfortunately Jess was not as quick on the draw or as skilled as the rogue in combat. She easily dodge one but her inexperience let the other catch a glancing blow on the succubus.

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke's attacks seemed to happen in flashes, blink and you'll miss em. Switching her weight leg to leg Rikke flat out dispatched the "leader" and used his still standing, but already liefeless body to help herself lunge towards the third attacker her slash tearing the opponents defenses asunder.

The panic or rage induced swings versus the girl hardly had any effect no matter how many of them attacked her, the rogues cat-like grace and dexterity proved to be out of the bandits league.

Rikke knew her third attack had a substantial effect, time to press the advantage once more. She hardly ever was this bloodlusty, but it felt like such great justice and vengeance the girl was completely lost in the moment. Her shortsword gleamed once more, seemed this just wasn't the bandits day. Though for one of them the girls plan was different.

Lightning strikes again!

AOE them fools down! First attack vs the injured baddie, other two vs the same the target

Rikke easily dispatched the injured ruffian with a quick passing slash even as his club flailed wildly through the air missing Rikke by a good foot or more. The secound Ruffian tried to bring his club down on Rikke's skull but the lithe rogue easily dodge the awkward blow before ending the ruffians life with a quick stab to his knee and a second slash across his exposed neck. Her third attacker made a hap hazard swing before dropping his club as he started to flee.

Jess meanwhile tore savagely into one of her opponents the black fire of her blades causing the flesh to sizzle and pop ending his life but not before his own blow stuck her making her scream in pain and throwing off her balance as her other attack managed to connect with her causing Jess to stumble away from the impact. Taking this chance the last attack began to run away as well passing just out of range of Riike's blade.

Re: Who Rules the Ruins (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"JESSICA!" Obviously her companion lacked the dexterity the heroine possesed as the hits on her seemed to be piling up. Looking to her last opponent with spite Rikke was rather relieved in a sense that the man knew when he was outmatched and legged it.

"Jess focus on guarding yourself I'm coming!" Rikke made a mad dash towards her companion and her oppressor. It was only one enemy, Rikke could dispatch him in moments notice... but they mentioned they held a girl captive. An experience Rikke knew all too well, it was something she would not let continue!

Though that means not killing this last bastard, she needed to find out where the poor captive girl was held.

Depends: Can you hit him with a simple attack and demand he yields.
Or do I drop his HP to 0?
If I need to "kill" him Rikke uses Lightning strikes. It'll be more than enough. Feel free to mix and match with an unarmed strike if needed.
Otherwise a simple attack and demand he surrenders.
