Tamara falls silent for a moment before answering. "I'd like to see that city, I think. How far is it and how deep?"

The city's location is somewhat muddled in Jessica's mind though she can tell the direction, but she can tell that it's fairly deep, some miles off the coast.

Jessica thought for a moment, trying to remember where exactly the city was. It was kind of fuzzy in her mind, and she certainly couldn't have given coordinates, but she had a general idea. "It's that way" she said, pointing, "a couple of miles out. That would make it pretty deep, I think." The mermaid was a little sad; that probably made it unlikely that Tamara would follow her there.

"I don't think I can dive that deep without help. You wouldn't happen to know any magic or the like that would help me, would you?" Tamara replies with a frown.

Jessica frowned a little and bowed her head in thought, though it didn't take her very long to figure out the answer to the riddle. "Oh, we have scuba gear back at the camp. Maybe they would let you borrow it to come with me" she said. She wondered what the doctor would think of it, though... She hoped Miller would be understanding.

"Great! So where is your camp?" Tamara asks, playfully poking at Jessica and smiling.

Jessica flailed a little at the poking ottergirl, giggling a bit and saying "stop that!" She looked around a little, trying to get her bearings as to where she was. "It's on and island near the sunken ruins, if you know where that is. I think I can swim to it from here, but it might be good to have a little confirmation" she said finally, looking to Tamara for reassurance before she got her spear and began to swim towards where she thought the camp was.

"Oh, those ruins are on the other side of the island." Tamara answers as Jessica picks up her gear, diving after the mermaid.

The pair doesn't take very long to reach the camp. There's no sign of Willow, but Dr. Miller seems to be studying something outside the tent.

Jessica had thought that the camp was on the other side of the island they had been on, just judging by the scenery off in the distance, but it was nice to get confirmation from Tamara. Once she had all her things together and dove into the water the ottergirl followed her, and they had a short, uneventful swim. Once they got to the camp, the mermaid stuck her head up above water a little bit to check it out. Willow didn't seem to be anywhere nearby, but Dr. Miller was studying something just outside of her tent. "Hello, Dr. Miller?" she called out, trying to get her attention. "I need you to do me a favor. I need a set of scuba gear for my friend to come with me to an underwater city. I want to try and find a way to become human again, and I think I can find it there" she continued once she had the doctor's attention, explaining what she needed and why.

Miller spins around, startled to see Jessica. "Jessica? Where have you been? And where is the city you're talking about?"

"We found something in the labyrinth, and after that I've been all over. To the other side of the island. There's a city q5 the bottom of the ocean, though, with lots of mermaids. I thought they could help me" Jessica said quickly, explaining her situation to Miller.

Tamara gets out of the water, looking at Dr. Miller curiously before stepping forward and holding out her hand. "I'm Tamara." Miller hesitates before reaching out to shake it. "I'm Grendel."

Gesturing Tamara to follow, Grendel shows her Jessica's diving equipment and helps her put them on before coming to give Jessica a camera. "Take this with you. I'm sure you'll find something worth photoing down there."

Jessica watched as Tamara introduced herself to the doctor, noting that Miller had never told her her first name. It ended up being Grendel, which the mermaid thought delightfully weird. The two land-walkers went off and left her at the shore for a moment as the doctor showed the ottergirl to Jessica’s scuba gear and other such equipment. When they came back Miller was carrying one of the waterproof cameras the expedition had packed, and handed it to the nerdy girl, telling her to take it with her, because surely there would be things worthy of photographing in the underground city. "Thank you, I’ll be sure to use it some" she said, smiling a little as she saw Tamara decked out in all her equipment. "If you don’t have any instructions or anything, we might as well be off" she continued, ready to get a move on towards the underwater city to try and become human again.

With Dr. Miller's help, Tamara gets the oxygen bottle on her back and gets back in the water, following Jessica as the two start swimming off to the sea. They haven't been going on for long when Jessica spots a large octopus moving towards them.

Jessica and Tamara quickly began to swim off into the ocean once the ottergirl was ready. She looked kind of awkward in all that gear, which was quite amusing. It wasn't very long before the mermaid spotted trouble, though; a giant octopus swimming their way. One had attacked her earlier, so she gripped her harpoon and pointed it at the creature, shouting out "look out for that octopus, it might be dangerous!" to Tamara.

The giant octopus floats closer, eying Jessica and Tamara curiously and changing color from brown to greenish. Tamara pulls out her knife, watching the creature carefully.

Jessica watched as the octopus changed color, from brown to green. This was strange, she hadn't seen this behavior before, and she didn't know all that much about octopi. Still, she tried to swim around it a little, slowly, not making sudden moves. Maybe it was just curious, and would leave them alone after a bit of a look?

The octopus pushes itself closer with a stream of water and reaches out to touch Jessica with one of the tentacles. Apart from the suction cups feeling like sandpaper, the tentacle feels rubbery. It slides along Jessica's form from a shoulder down to the tail before pulling back. Tamara seems tense as she watches the octopus, her blade ready.

Jessica flinched when the octopus moved towards her, but didn't move to stab at it. It simply reached out with a tentacle, touching her gently, and though its suction cups felt rather like sandpaper against her skin, the rest of the tentacle felt kind of like rubber, soft and smooth. It rubbed its way from her shoulder all the way down to her tail, and then pulled back again, causing the mermaid to look at it curiously, wondering what it was doing. Still, she tried to appear non-threatening and calm as it watched her.

Tamara relaxes as it becomes clear that the octopus is non-threatening, and slides her knife back into hiding. The octopus then does the same to Tamara, who looks back at it curiously. The animal keeps looking at Jessica and Tamara for a while, floating close to them.

The octopus seemed to focus on Tamara for a while after that, looking her over as it floated very close to them. Jessica didn't think it would understand speech, and didn't think it would be prudent to possibly startle it with words, so she stayed silent and watched it carefully. She still didn't know what it was after, besides simple curiosity.
