"Aescilla. Her name was... Is Karyn, and she would have lived in this city about 20 years ago. Or at least, that's what I was told."

"I see..." Aescilly replied, looking over to Kor for a second, who just shrugged. "Do you have a last name, perhaps?"

"Err.... No, I don't. That's.... Really all I have to go on, plus a description that's just as old. Would that help? I don't think that it would if you're going by records."

Re: Shrike7 Test Thread

Aescilla took a moment to adjust her glasses again. "I see... This will take some time, and I may not be able to find anything." She explained slowly, looking over to Kor for a moment, raising an eyebrow at him. He shook his head with a bit of a frown, and she turned back to Ona, and continued.
"I'll have to work after hours to get this done in any reasonable amount of time, so I'll have to ask for compensation. Kor says you're a bit new here, so money will do fine. I'm thinking it will take two or three nights to search the entire set of old archives that still remain, How about 100 denarii? Two nights would be fifty per night, which is reasonable, and if it does take three, you come out ahead."

Re: Shrike7 Test Thread

Ona winced slightly at the price, and sighed. "I... I only have half of that right now. Is there... Some way I could make money here, in Acheron? You know, without.... Doing that." She glanced meaningfully at Kor, and then turned back to Aescilla. "I would accept if I had the money, I really would, but I just don't have that much on me.... And that would be all of my traveling funds too. I'm pretty sure that the woman I'm looking for isn't here, and, well.... I don't know."

Aescilla nods. "There are some, yes. If you don't want to sell yourself like that, there are still some other methods. Dancing, for one. Find the right place, and it's visual only, nobody would touch you. Or a barmaid."

"Away from 'Cilla here and her dirty mind, there's some other things as well." Kor adds with a smirk. "Like being a guide(adds a bow), running messages around town, or perhaps temporary guard duty. You could even leave the city to hunt monsters in the wilderness, and bring back remains to sell."

"Or gambling, if you think you're lucky." Aescilla pipes up again. "There's a few people I've seen make a fortune at the tables, up in the thousands of denarii."

Re: Shrike7 Test Thread

Ona grimaced at the idea of having to go about as a guard. She'd never taken well to being told what to do, but it was probably better than the blush she acquired at the idea of dancing. 'I don't even know how to dance.... I couldn't do that! Dancing like that.' At least she understood one of the innuendos that had flown around the room.

Still, guard duty or hunting seemed like her best options. She didn't feel like she'd be a very good guide, since she needed one herself, and the same problem presented itself if she wanted to deliver messages. And, giving it another second or two of thought, she probably would need to know the city better if she wanted to be a city guard. Maybe Kor could teach her a thing or two... But Ona discarded that thought immediately. The man surely had his own concerns to worry about, and she didn't want to think too hard about what he would charge her if she asked him to show her all of Acheron.

Ona gaped at the prospect of thousands of denarii, her mouth hanging open in shock, but after a second or two of thinking about it she said; "Gambling? What's..... Oh, you mean cards, right? No, I was never very good at that... My brothers always beat me whenever we played."

Pausing, she sighed before continuing, "I think... I think that hunting might be my best option, but... I'm not really sure what's out there, or where to look. Or what to take when I find them, even." She looked to Kor and shrugged. "Still, that's what I'll have to do... Is there anything you could tell me? Any directions that you could give me about where to look and what to watch out for? I wouldn't know who to sell them to either, for that matter. And Aescilla, could I pay you part now, and the rest when I get enough together? I want to keep a little money on hand so I can eat something hot for once, but I can pay you 40 now, and another 70 later to compensate for the later payment. Would that be alright with you?"

Re: Shrike7 Test Thread

Both Kor and Aescilla listened and nodded at the appropriate points.

Aescilla was the first to speak up, responding to the question about payment. "That sounds fair Dear. I don't get many visitors, so if you'll stay until I come back, I'll grab the first stack out here and get started." She says. Kor nods, and she gets up from her seat and heads through the double doors deeper into the building, her walk clipped and professional.

"I haven't left the city in some time, myself." Kor explains while they wait. "So I can't really tell you much of what to expect. If you wind up fighting a monster, take anything from them that seems like it could be used for something, chances are somebody here will be willing to buy it. If they seem corrupted in any way, chances are there's a red gem you could dig out of them, usually somewhwere in the chest. Those can be quite valuable, depending on their size."

"Chances are you'll have to leave the roads to find much, they're kept relatively clear. Make sure you know which way to get back, at all times, in case you have to cut and run. If you do choose to stay on the roads, chances are you'll find bandits before monsters, if you range far enough. Should be easier to tell what to take from them."

Aescilla came back through the doors, leaned sideways with a single arm under a stack of paperwork almost as tall as she is, having to duck the precarious stack a bit to get through the door, holding the other arm straight out to help her balance the load. She sets it down on the floor behind the counter, right beside her chair, and sat again. "I can see I haven't missed much." She says simply.

"No other customers, I fear." Kor replies with a chuckle.

Re: Shrike7 Test Thread

Nodding along to their responses, Ona turned toward Kor as Aescilla left the room and listened to the man before replying; "Alright, that should be help enough, thank you! Maybe I'll find something quickly, and be able to come back soon. Could you.... Could you help guide me around some more? I can't ask you to come out of the city with me, but could you get me back to the entrance? I don't want to have to try and navigate this city on my own. I'll.... I'll pay you before I leave town."

When Aescilla returned with a huge stack of books, Ona gaped in awe at so much material for a moment before handing over 40 coins. "I'll try to have the rest of your money as soon as I can. You can tell me if you find anything when I get back. Thanks a bunch Aescilla!" With that, unless there was something else that needed answering from Aescilla, Ona was prepared to depart back toward the entrance into the city of Acheron.

"Of course I will." Kor replies with a nod and a friendly smile. "After all, our deal did not stipulate a duration. If you wish to be led to the city gates, that is where we will go. As for my fee, I think our best chance at privacy is actually in here. When 'Cilla get's back, we'll head into one of the reading rooms, if that's agreeable."

When the elf returned with the stack of papers, Kor waited near the desk while Ona paid her. "Tisn't a problem Dear, see you soon!" She said cheerfully. Kor chuckled, and nodded towards the stack. "Pass page one over, we'll give you a hand for a bit." He told her, and she just smiled and shook her head, passing a page over and pointing to one of the doors lining the side walls. Kor opened the door for her and ushered her through, before entering himself and shutting the door behind them.

The furnishings inside were rather simple, consisting of a rather large table with sturdy legs, and a rather comfortable high-backed chair. Kor placed the paper on the table, then turned to look at her again, still smiling. Surprisingly enough, he seemed reluctant to be the one to make the first move...

Re: Shrike7 Test Thread

Ona blushed brightly as Kor suggested that they could settle up here, and replied in a high pitched squeak; "Okay!" She was still blushing when Aescilla came back, and didn't say anything further to the woman before she was ushered into a back room and had the door shut behind her.

She tried to return Kor's smile, but she was still obviously nervous, as she was blushing brightly and fidgeting quite profusely, switching her weight from foot to foot and turning her body from one side to the other and back. Still she was willing, and swallowed down some of her nerves and said; "Um... I... What should I do? Should I... Sit down? I've... Never done this before, so.... Um... Don't really.... Know." She glanced at the comfortable looking chair, and then at the table, and then back at Kor. "It's.... I still only owe you a kiss... Right?"

Kor nodded, and seemed to gain a bit of bravery. "Of course, just a kiss, anything else would have to be agreed upon beforehand." He said with a nod, moving closer. "And standing would do fine, I think..."

He stepped right up until barely a foot separated them, and gently raised a hand to her cheek, brushing his fingers across it slowly before settling around the back of her head, resting comfortably. "Just relax, it isn't the end of the world, hmm?" He said with a smirk, leaning in and keeping their bodies apart, to disturb her as little as possible.

Their lips met for a span of about three seconds, his pressing warmly against hers. She felt a thrill travel up her spine, feeling like something inside herself give, ever so slightly. And then it was over, Kor pulling back again, his hand going back to his side as he took a step back, still smiling. "See, that wasn't so bad, was it?" He asked teasingly, before his eyes narrowed in another appraisal of her, seeming like he was looking right past her eyes, and straight into her soul. "There's something special about you, alright. Let's get you going, plenty of time to talk on the streets." He told her, reaching behind him and grabbing the paper from the table.

Re: Shrike7 Test Thread

"O... Okay." Ona said hesitantly, a bright blush still on her face. She tensed as his hand came up and brushed against her cheek, but then she relaxed, the nervousness she'd displayed largely evaporating under the comforting embrace. She even giggled slightly at his words just before the kiss, but the sound died away as his mouth started towards her. Ona closed her eyes slowly and slightly parted her lips, the actions seeming almost natural to her in that moment.

A shiver ran up the young warrior's spine during her first kiss, a strange sensation that was unlike anything she'd ever felt before running across her body. It was a little frightening, but at the same time exciting in ways she'd never imagined possible, and the butterflies in her stomach fluttered about rapidly for the brief embrace of her lips against Kor's. When it was over, Ona let out a sigh, her eyes still momentarily shut and her mouth set in a slight smile. "No... No that wasn't bad at all." She said, opening her eyes and meeting his gaze evenly, and one of the things that his piercing gaze might not have been able to uncover about her was how seriously she was considering asking for another kiss.

One blinked in surprise at his assessment of her, his words shaking any such thoughts out of her head and replacing them with confusion.... And curiosity. Still, now was not the time to ask for it, and her blush largely faded as he turned away and grabbed the paper he'd left on the table. "Alright... Yeah, lets go. The sooner I get out there, the sooner I can get back, the sooner I can pay Aescilla, right?"

Re: Shrike7 Test Thread

"That's the plan." Kor said smoothly, opening the door for her to exit again. Aescilla looked somewhat surprised, as they had only been in the room for around a minute, and neither of them looked very disheveled, but she kept silent, taking the page back and setting it on top of the stack beside her, giving them a wave as they left again. "Good luck Dear, stay safe!"

It was starting towards evening as they made their way back, the streets more crowded than before, but somehow less rowdy. Kor reached out and took her hand for the worst parts, giving his usual charming smile each time but letting go once they hit calmer parts, assuming she didn't try to hold on herself. Eventually, they reached the city gate, a few hours left until it got dark enough to give her any troubles.

"Here we are. I'd suggest finding a safe place to hunker down for the night, and beginning your search in the morning." Kor explained, going over it one final time. "I'll spend as much time around here as I can spare over the next couple days, but if I'm not here, or you take longer then that, hire a guide to take you to the Old Records Hall, that's 'Scilla's place there. She can usually find me. See you soon." He finished, making sure she got all of that before anything else. If she left, he'd stay put where he was until she made it though the gates, then wandered off slowly, heading back deeper into the city.

Re: Shrike7 Test Thread

Giving the elf a nod as they headed for the door, Ona said; "I will be, thank you Aescilla!" As they headed through the streets, Ona made no attempt to pull away the first time that Kor grabbed her hand through one of the rougher parts of the demon city, taking some comfort in the man's touch after what they had just done together. Her blush had faded more or less as soon as she had walked out of the building, and she kept it from making a return on their trip back through Acheron at least.

"It is getting kind of late, isn't it....." Ona said, looking somewhat concerned as they reached the gate out of the city. "Thank you for all of your help, Kor! Though.... Wouldn't it be safer to just stay in the city for the night? Not that I mind roughing it, of course. I had to do that all throughout the walk to get here!" She realized that she was rambling and stopped, blushing slightly as she realized that she had been about to ask if she could stay with him. Why was she being so comfortable with a man she'd just met that afternoon?

"When I come back, I'll try to find you first, and if I can't that's where I'll ask to be taken. To the Old Records Hall, that is. Thank you again for all your help!" Ona gave a slightly formal bow at the waist, and then suddenly stood on the tips of her toes and planted a light kiss on his cheek before turning away so that he couldn't see her blushing again, and immediately headed out of the city. She cast a glance over her shoulder only once, just as she passed underneath the city gates, and smiled slightly.

Once she was out of Acheron, Ona immediately started back down the road in search of a decent camp site, preferably one that was close enough to the city that she wouldn't have to worry so much about wild animals. She had wanted a cook meal tonight, but it looked like cold rations for her again... Though she found herself not minding the idea as much as she had earlier that day.

Re: Shrike7 Test Thread

Shrike7: Kor smirkedat the peck on the cheek, offering his own bow with somewhat more flourish as she walked away. When she looked back, he had barely moved, but some naga had apparently come up to speak to him. She caught him glance in her direction though, just before she got too far away to see for certain. The trip away from town was uneventful, though night had fully fallen by the time she found a somewhat suitable place to set up camp. the location was a bit off the path, a small depression on the lee side of a large boulder. Likely an issue if it decided to rain, but otherwise perfect for her needs.

Tassadar: Ona set about creating her camp with her usual efficiency, setting up a small canvas on some sticks beside the boulder to provide cover for the night and stringing a line between two trees to hang her pack from. After that, she would go off to collect some firewood, leaving her pack hanging but keeping her weapons and her armor on. Letting one's guard down in the woods wasn't a good plan no matter where you were, and Ona had no illusions about Acheron providing safety outside of its wall given how chaotic it had been inside.

Shrike7: There were a couple times during her collection trip where she thought she felt herself being watched, but she couldn't spot anything, and nothing jumped out at her, so she eventually marked it down to paranoia when she made it back to her camp safely. a few minutes later, Ona managed to get the fire started, the first few wisps of smoke trailing upwards into the darkness...

Tassadar: After she got the fire going, Ona moved to her pack and retrieved some of her rapidly dwindling food, and then returned to kneel beside the fire and eat the dried meat and fruit. No signs of the paranoia still causing her to flit her gaze over her surroundings were present on the armored girl, leaving her outwardly calm. She set her sword beside her as she ate, and when she finished she simply sat beside the fire and waited awhile, the day having not been as tiring as she was used to and thus leaving her full of energy even after Kor's extraordinary kiss.

Shrike7: The night passed in near silence, the slow crackling of the fire and the sounds of her own eating the only sounds in her ears for what felt like at least an hour, but was probably much shorter. Suddenly, she heard a loud commotion somewhere a good distance to her left, probably about ten seconds long. It sounded like the victim of whatever was going on was a deer from the bleating, which abrupty stopped about halfway through the commotion.

Tassadar: Ona looked up in surprise at the sudden commotion and reached for her sword reflexively. The sound ended after a moment, but Ona slowly rose to her feet anyway, curious. If there was a predator near her little campsight, she might have to find a tree to climb. Pausing a moment at the edge of the firelight to allow her eyes to adjust to the darkness, Ona crept noisily through the bushes, her sword in her hand and the other held out at her side.

Shrike7: Ona managed to trek towards where she heard the commotion easily, and the scene she stumbled upon almost made her gasp in surprise. She had indeed heard a deer, it was still there, enveloped by a mass of tendrils emanating from a pair of orb-like creatures, it's calls silenced by a pair of tentacles swiftly pumping down it's throat, as well as noticably it's other holes. A man watched the scene from the other side of her, but there was so much *wrong* about him as well. He shared the same slick grey skin as the creatures assaulting the deer, as well as bundles of tendrils spurting out of here or there, and he was draped in a loose red robe, damp with whatever oil he was covered in. He was already looking in her direction when she pushed through the last of the undergrowth, a perverted smile on his face, and one of the creatures was already extricating itself, lifting from the shuddering doe and carrying itself towards her on those tendrils, more of the lengths reaching towards her...

Tassadar: Ona came to a crashing halt the very moment that she saw the two creatures violating the dear, her eyes wide and an expression of utter horror on her face. She noticed the man in the back a second after, and she snapped out of her disturbed stupor a moment later, her guts twisted. She didn't open her mouth, not trusting herself to speak, and instead simply darted forward and slashed at the tentacled abomination pulling itself free of the deer. (Attack with 20 points of defensive fighting, gaining +20 Dodge. Attack stats: +61 attack, 2d6 + 32 damage for sword. +61 attack, 2d12 + 32 damage.)

Shrike7: Her sword cleaves right through the outstretched tendrils with almost no resistance, and before the thing could reorient, her clawed gauntlet was digging deeply into the bundle of flesh at the center, the rest of the creature's appendages slumping as it died. A bit of the slime seeped into the cracks of her gauntlet as she retracted it, the oily stuff feeling a bit warmer than her body temperature, but before she could really put more thought into it, the second creature pulled itself free from the doe as well, reaching out and winding around her arms, getting closer as more tendrils started to wind towards her as she felt that warmth from the slime again, the man in the back watching with that same grin on his face. (grappled, you know the stuff for it better. and yay roll! 4 resistance damage, 21/25 towards aroused)

Tassadar: Ona let out a disgusted cry as the second creature's tendrils wind around her limbs, feeling the unfamiliar heat suddenly rising in her belly due to the foul slime but still able to easily ignore it for the moment. Wrenching her arms, Ona suddenly springs forward and attempts to stab into the creature's body with her sword. (Grapple action: attack with sword! Grapple check, damage same as above with an additional 4 due to not dual wielding.)

Shrike7: "Can you feel it? That wonder-" the corrupted man started as the tendrils wound around her arms, stopping suddenly when Ona simply pushed her blade forward and pierced the core of the second creature, feeling her bindings slacken immediately as it died as quickly as the first. His look of shock and horror almost matched her own when she first arrived, and he turned and bolted into the forest without another word. (19/25 resistance, chances are a useless note but there's a couple options that wont give it time to recover.)

Tassadar: Ona's face turned into a mask of fury after the second creature died, and she advanced a step towards the man who had seemingly commanded the creatures when he bolted off into the woods. "Get back here!" she shouted, and charged on after him, though she wouldn't advance very far from her camp before coming to a halt. Running through the woods at night was a great way to get hurt even without the threat of monsters finding you in the dark, and if she hadn't caught up to the man quickly, Ona would instead return to her camp.

Shrike7: Ona jumped over the still-shuddering deer and gave chase for a minute, stopping suddenly when she started to have second thoughts. She could hear the robed figure crashing through the forest just out of sight, but still easy enough to track. she felt she was catching up, if she kept going.

Tassadar: Ona glared after him, but didn't give chace any further. He might be leading her towards more of his foul friends, and she didn't like her chances against them in the dark.

Tassadar: Turning, she carefully returned to her camp, intent on examining the dead tentacle monsters come morning light.

Shrike7: She heard a couple more sounds throughout the night, but nothing encroached on her campsite, fortunately.
