Went back to the game and let curiosity take me as I messed with the save file. I love this method of saving as a txt. So easy to change your stats if you want. Heck I even figured out how to revive bosses. ^_~
Well, this is the save pattern.

You can't keep the weapons because they use the same variable as the boss.

Wine's directmusic implementation (dmusic, dmime, dmloader, etc) is very incomplete. If your application uses directmusic, it will probably not play audio. This includes most games made with GameMaker. However, installing both "directmusic" and "dsound" using winetricks should give you working audio.
(removed URL because it wouldn't let me post otherwise)Closest thing to an answer I could find.

Dracula's Castle? Are you sure you're still talking about the same game and not some other Castlevania game instead?I am somewhat disappointed that none of the chandeliers in Dracula's castle drop hearts.

In the room right before the final save point, it looks like there's an upper area that I couldn't reach. Is there anything up there or am I reading too much into the level geometry?

For some reason, I can highlight a fifth spot just below the four weapons.
You can get up there by allowing the metroid like jellyfish to suck you up there.
You can get up there if you stop right underneath it and let the metroid-looking flying thing catch you and drag you up, then simply break free.
