If that's true I will fucking kill someone. That would be a goddamn retarded move.
Japan's game-industry has a history of making retarded moves. Most involve Nintendo's retarded localization, but there are others.

"I've got a gun, you've got a time machine; Let's kill Hitler."

Dr Who is back, and I enjoyed the half-season premiere. Also:
"I was on my way to a gay gypsy Bar Mitzvah for the disabled when I decided that this whole third reich business was a bit rubbish, so I decided I'd kill the Fuehrer."

Already said, but yeah. There's a lot of stuff that's Japanese only release. Don't like it any more than the rest of the fans myself.

Yeah, I know a lot of games only get released in Japan, but with the fanbase around FF7 it would be stupid of them to not release it outside Japan.

And in regards to Doctor Who, you should've been watching it with my friend yesterday. He was raging so hard about River Song being a Mary Sue. It is true though.

wikipedia said:
A Mary Sue (sometimes just Sue), in literary criticism and particularly in fanfiction, is a fictional character with overly idealized and hackneyed mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as a wish-fulfillment fantasy for the author or reader. It is generally accepted as a character whose positive aspects overwhelm their other traits until they become one-dimensional.
She's not a Mary Sue, and you probably don't have a proper grasp on what the word means.

Re: What made you feel giddy today?

She knows a hell of a lot about the Doctor and acts mysterious about it. She's always in the right place at the right time. She was born part Time Lord, and despite being trained all her life to kill the Doctor she falls for him and uses her last regenerations to bring the Doctor back to life. Even though the Doctor is much, much older than River Song she has greater control of her regeneration powers, and knows how to operate the TARDIS as well as stuff about it that the Doctor himself doesn't know.

They are just a few things that make her a Mary Sue.

Neighbor told me about a part-time opening down at the local library. Despite all the hoops needing to be jumped through, it's hardly different than what I used to do at the bookstore. Going to give it a shot. We'll see if this remains in the giddy thread or shifts over to "hate."

Nope, but fingers will need to be crossed for a while. I guess the way their process works is they post the ad for the job for about a week or so, and then once it's done (in this case, the 9th), it's another 4-6 weeks for them to review/process the applications. Here's hoping...

Re: What made you feel giddy today?

Two days does not a double post make.

Well, after getting a fantastic story from my ST that gave me a sock-in-the-gut look inside one of the NPCs heads, I found out today that her other game (which is running parallel to mine and my cousin's) just derailed our game. You'd think this would be a bad thing, but all it really did was open up a can of whoop-ass on a bunch of the bad guys and gave us an excuse to do it.

Seems that since my one mage character liberated the angel that the vampires had captured, they went looking for a substitute to use in their ritual torture/gangrape by ghouls and kidnapped the mage that flashfried some of them when they tried to break into his library. Turns out said mage is the presumed dead brother of the Hunter that's training my one Sin-Eater and keeping my cousin's Sin-Eater out of trouble. So what went from "We need to sneak into the nest of vampires, stake the leader, get her ass out of there and clear Case's name" has turned into "Those dumb bastards have no idea the world of hurt they just opened up upon themselves do they?" The ST is actually going to have to make a list of the characters that we are dragging in to unleash World War Three on these sunsabitches. At present count, we're looking at: seven sin-eaters, two mages, five Hunters, one mage-kin, one kinfolk, one kitsune, one jinx, and one angel. Ohyeah, and the vamps have a werewolf they captured, too, who's really really not happy with them. And we have tow lines to haul the bonds out of the ground.

tl;dr: Copper's characters and her favorite NPCs get to go in and wage war on a bunch of vampires that have no idea how stupid they are, nor what's coming...hooah!

Re: What made you feel giddy today?

Don't forget the partridge and the pear tree, though why the Mokole keeps carrying it around is beyond me. What Mokole you ask, well he's the Kiasyd's brother's uncle's cousin's former roommate, who was introduced to the Sidhe lord by the Skinriders. He was also the one who got the Bone Flower to hug the Nephandi while the Usurer, who used to hang out with the Malefactor and the Sakhmu, watched form the corner. I think there was a Bystander too but he never really did anything except carry around an ashtray, granted the ashtray has more dots than the rest of them combined it's still only an ashtray.

Sadly that made more sense than some crossover games I've read about. That did make me pretty giddy picturing all that in my head though.

Re: What made you feel giddy today?

*laughs* Funny you should bring that up. The ST and I finished going over the list the first time and she goes "and a partridge in pear tree!" too. *giggles*

Okay, scary thing is, I followed that up to "Bone flower" (did you mean Bone Gnawer?), Sakhmu, and Bystander. And you had to bring up Kiasyd *narrows eyes* The Ringmaster that held onto my mage's angel is a Kiasyd. He's also the one that stripped all the Glamour from Steph and Micah's new changeling catboy that they adopted when he managed to run away from the carnival.

Also, very giddy over the fact that I got to watch one of my Dark Hunter gal friends get proposed to in Jackson Square. My other friend was videotaping it at the time and they shared it with all of us. *girlie squees*

Re: What made you feel giddy today?

I just took one from each line of game in classic WOD or at least I think I did. Bone Flower is a dharma in Kindred of the East, Sakhmu is a dynasty(?) from Mummy, and a Bystander is sort of a hunter. It's actually a hunter who refused to act when he learned of the evil and was stripped of his powers but not the knowledge that evil is around him. I also forgot to mention that the ash tray's name is Samuel, I like him as an ash tray.

Just coincidence that I picked a Kiasyd, for some reason it's always the first bloodline that occurs to me. Just give him the book he wants and he should leave you alone. Maybe he sounds kind of odd for a Kiasyd, they don't usually even work with anyone really.

Re: What made you feel giddy today?

Yes. Yes, Samuel is just fine as an ashtray, thank you. And that explains it. We never really did all that much with those games and half of that stuff doesn't exist in NWoD.

And him not getting the book he wanted is what got him into this mess in the first place, so really, he only has himself to blame for being greedy... And, well, he is Sabbat, so that makes for a few screws loose in the first place.

Re: What made you feel giddy today?

Bit of old news but...

Quick sum up: For Mass Effect 3 Bioware held a poll on which one of a various few selected versions of the female Shepherd would become the "official" one for marketing and such. The fifth one, otherwise known as the blonde one, was winning last I checked. The linked article is a woman bitching about the blonde Shepherd, and how she looks like a bimbo without any personality.

Now here's what fucking bothers me. Two games have already come out showing Shepherd to have some great depth as a character, and the female version still a great role model for women as she kicks ass and has (albiet a somewhat customizable one) a good in depth personality.

Now I've always liked it when strong female characters are selected to become part of a game's marketing, especially when its not focusing on said character's sexuality. I always want it to happen more, and so do a lot of women. But now that the blonde Shepherd is winning people are bitching because of her fucking hair colour? Really, how fucking shallow is that where you can base someone's entire personality off the colour of their damn hair. Because she's blonde she's automatically a bimbo who cares more about her nails than her job... despite the fact that two previous games have established this character as anything but.

The difference between the various Shepherds up for the poll is in the hair alone. They have the same expression, same facial features, same pose. So the person who wrote this article is basically saying that to have long blonde hair automatically makes you a bimbo.

The author even goes on to mention how she's excited that a female shepherd is going to be used for marketing. But with such a backhanded slap like this, based on shallow observations, how the fuck does she expect to gain any ground? "It's not precisely what I wanted, I don't like blondes, blah blah,"

I think a comic from Penny Arcade said it best.

Fall weather has arrived finally! No more triple digits or 90s. Showing highs of 80 at best the rest of the week as well as being cloudy with a nice breeze...so pleasant.
