Re: Games Discussion Thread

does there always have to be a token jugs character?
Despite what I said about games moving forward as an accepted story telling medium, they still play with a lot of tropes, and 60% of gamers are male (stats on homosexual and bisexual players I've yet to see), and with the increase in graphics capabilities, its easier to make a sexy character that people just want to look at.

That said, I'd love to see games that eschew this trope almost entirely, and not have to rely on a token jugs character. I remember when the game Draken: The Ancient's Gate came out for the PS2 years ago, and the protaganist was a female wearing pants and though she had a bustier style top her breasts were not overly impressive. I heard both males and females going "yes, pants and a realistic body type for a warrior." Even most males I talked to didn't mind playing that female character at all because they didn't feel weird for playing as an over sexualized bimbo.

Hell, even set characters that have used their large breasts and ramped up sexuality are taking a change. Take a gander at the new Lara Croft character art:

So, while the token jugs character is loosing its prominence, it'll still be around. Indeed the games that do use it may try and push the sexuality a bit further because they can. We'll see what happens.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I really don't get this "realistic" thing about jugs, There are women with natural oversized breasts(to the point of looking ugly) in the real world, so long as they don't impair movements or stay up on their own like they are filled with helium, they can be realistic, it's not the size that make them "unrealistic".
Besides the size of your breasts don't make you a "bimbo".

Besides, there are people that really like big breasts, i'm not one of them so i understand your point too, but every fetish is to be respected to some extent(so long as it doesn't hurt others) and if you don't like it you have the freedom of ignorig that product, but wanting to destroy a product because you don't agree with it is just wrong.

Btw, i love Dead space 2.

No, breast size does not make one a bimbo, and many characters are not presented as bimbos... however they are still presented in an overly sexualized fashion despite being in a scenario where skimpy outfits with large breasts hanging out would not be practical. It's nice to see games that don't just slot female characters in as eye candy.

Huh.

So, apparently, every time I want to play MNC, it has to verify the patches? Or something?

Seriously, should not take me 3-5 minutes to start it up.

After the patch process it vertifies the 244 or so files. though it should only technically do this right after the first update :?

Every time it patches it wants to verify it, yes. But only the first login after a patch.

Completely agree with this. I remember when I first started playing Guild Wars, all I could think was "why does my warrior have her most essential areas exposed?" It does seem to have gotten better as of late, though.
As for Dragon Age, I never really felt any attachment to it. It just felt like a step backwards after Mass Effect/2. The same recylced BioWare plotline didn't help with that, either.

nunu hears that the lead developer or some such on bullet storm was not only a girl, but got into massive rowws about the over sexualisation of the girl in the game, and for the most part, won.

I haven't been able to get into mass effect, really. Maybe it's the lacking of the character creator, but I don't feel attached to it at all. Haven't played it in a while either x.x

Maybe I should...

I heard that as well actually. The main female character of the game isn't that sexualized, and I like her design... I wanted to play as her in the game.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

The real world still beats any game i've ever seen when turning girls into sexual objects and it's not even men that do that, most girls do it to themselves to look more attractive, there is jail bait out there that makes the sluttiest game characters look like puritan extremists.
So it's not unrealistic, one could argue that you don't go naked to a sword fight, but still martial artist rarely used armors, since they impair movements and clothes in general tend to get in the way.

I could understand if all characters were based on the same stereotype, that would be obnoxious, but that's not true, there are many characters that rely on sexual bodies, as many that rely on a clean cuteness, other who rely on a dominant behavior. The fact some people don't like a particular type of character doesn't mean it should disappear. It's like porn, you don't like it, you don't buy it.

Besides, sexually enhanced characters are an easy hit, i don't see as much hatred for androgynous male characters or half-naked inverted-triangle-shaped guys. A lot of people hate them, but you don't see guys start a march against the mercification of the male body...

I can see a few flaws with your argument, but you know what. I don't care. Just go away. Leave this thread in peace.

On a different note.

Farm simulation. Multiplayer and co-op possible. Yes, you can spray your friends with manure if you really want to do that.

You definitely should. The series is one of the best RPG experiences I've had when it comes down to freedom in interaction. It's not the most open-ended or free-roaming, but the game really felt like a story you controlled, not a series of set pieces with pop-up enemies to kill. Not to say it wasn't full of that. It just gave them reason to exist.
My basic problem with the over-sexualization of characters is when it leads to impracticality. You COULD show up to a firefight wearing a halfshirt and a miniskirt, but I doubt I'm in the minority when I say I'd rather wear a suit of power-armor that doesn't show off skin.
And XSI, I almost bought that game when it was on sale. Then I watched the trailer, fell asleep, and couldn't remember what I was doing when I woke up. >_>

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Now, my stance isn't the removal of sexuality entirely from game, or even the removal of over sexualized characters from games... I'd just rather them not used so much, like the game needs to appeal to the libido of the human race just to sell some copies. Hell from time to time I enjoy playing a sexed up character. and do like being given the option.

But like Velvet said, it has its place, and when it just looks so damn impractical to be wearing something like that it really takes me out of the immersion. I may like having the option to be sexy, but it some games it just doesn't fit with the theme.

If I'm playing something like Mass Effect I want power armour that fits in with the universe, but I don't mind some skin being shown in a medieval type game, where some cultures did bare skin when fighting.

Now I'm just thinking about a developer making a culture that goes to battle with their left testicle hanging out and them trying to justify why.

Their god Beefeater (Beefeater used in place of whatever Latin sounding name they decide on later) was out fighting an EIPC (epic must be used for how would the public know how great a battle it was without it? By using good writing and visualization) battle during the course of witch he was hit in his defender plate (cod piece) exposing his manliness (left testicle) for all to see, such was his rage at this he then murdered all he fought. As such his people now do the same in an attempt to channel his rage.

I feel as though I've lost part of my soul writing that.

I Like farms!! if its harvest moon i mean...that series is more addicting than weed. I had allot of fun with ME1, and i love carrying over my charecter to ME2, made it that much more satisfying to stick with the series.

In other news, Dead money has finally come to PC owners of Fallout: New vegas. Im re-installing for some dead money fun!:D
