Oh don't worry, I'll be pouncing all over Shogun II when it arrives.

In the meantime:

a 35 minutes short live action movie made by Ubisoft. It is a prequel to Assassin's Creed II and from what I see follows Ezio's father.

The main reason I'm linking this is plain and simple support. If this takes off and does well, perhaps other big heads with fat wallets will see how video game movies are supposed to be made, and we can get some decent ones that add substance to loved universes.

I made the mistake of pre-ordering the Grand Master Edition 2 weeks ago. I am already hopping impatient, and there's still ages left to wait.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

So... Two Worlds II. My thoughts on the game:

Now, I was never a fan of the original game. In fact I played it for probably an hour before I decided I hated it and put it down. However, I'm still a sucker for medieval fantasy so when Two Worlds II was coming up and they said they were fixing everything I was intrigued, so I rented it for three days and put about 5-6 hours maybe more into it.

So short form: Yes it's better than the original game, but it's still a mediocre title that overshadowed by Oblivion from now almost 6 years ago.

Good Points:
-Dialogue was followable this time around rather than the quasi ye olde English they had going.
-broad world
-horse riding fairly well done
-crafting, and alchemy rather interesting. I liked breaking down things to get the core components to upgrade my current equipment, and finding all the random things to make my own potions.
-Creating your own spells. Choose carrier (missile, area of effect, etc), element, damage modifiers, protective modifiers, carrier modifiers. Pretty neat even if i don't use magic in game.
-Quick swapping of equipment.
-Fairly nice visuals, and cool looking gear
-Surcoats. I like me capes and such.
-A hilarious little easter egg referencing the original's dialogue

Bad Points:
-Dialogue is fairly monotoned.
-Combat feels lack luster. It doesn't usually feel like anything is really connecting (Metro 2033 syndrome), and often lags or shows your character doing something opposite of what you told him to do despite the game recognizing that you told him to do it (shows block animation or stands stock still while the enemie's hit points drain away as I attack).
-Removal of mounted combat. After the original had it, seems weird to remove it to do a Oblivion esque get off your horse to fight thing. I don't understand why it was removed.
-No obvious choices in the game. For my 5-6 hours of a long RPG (I didn't even finish Chapter 1) I had two choices. Two. dialogue is mostly back and forth until you can ask more information about a quest, and so far everything is so damn linear. Okay, so they want to tell a story I guess, but why talk about consequences of your decisions on the back of the box if everything feels so linear.
-No gender choice in character customization. This bugs me, I like playing as females in my games, and the more games that offer a choice the happier I am. Fuck Halo: Reach offers it. But not Two Worlds II. Why put in character customization if I can't make the character I want. (Reminds of when I heard Brink talking about how they had the most in depth character customization ever, and they don't even offer female characters. Fuck off!). I know this may not bug all of you, but when giving the player to create the character they want to be in this world... why give them only the male option. Hell, the skin tone didn't even get very dark (Fable syndrome). That's not making a character. 5 minutes into the game and I already found another character that looked more bad-ass, had a better voice actor and I just wanted to be. She was fairly sexy too. I wanted to be her, not this cookie cutter guy they almost forced me to play. But alas.
-Clumsy menus. The back button (select on PS3 I suppose) brings up your inventory/character menu/ equipment/alchemy/magic tabs. Yes equipment is separate from inventory. However, the map, journal and reputation log are all items in the item tab, making you go to that tab, find them and open them. Of course they're defaulted to the X and Y buttons when you have your weapon sheathed (the face buttons turn to other options in combat) but why the jumbled mess? It just feels odd and I never really got used to it.

Overall, the game was not horrible, just mediocre and fairly boring. But with Skyrim coming out at the end of the year and Dragon Age 2 around the corner, and Mass Effect 3 announced for this year, I'm not settling for mediocre. Deliver a good solid game if you want to stand against these other titles, and I won't get so bored to want to go play Sacred 2 some more.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

The only ones i look forward to in that list are Diablo 3, i've simply waited too long, i'll get it even if it turns out the worst game of the decade, and The last guardian, cause no matter what team ico puts together, it's always awe inspiring.

For dragon age 2 i'll probably wait around till the modding comunity has made some good improvements all around. Mass effect 3 is interesting too, but i can't kill the feeling that the story is going downward since the first.

I somehow doubt Blizzard can make a "worst game of the year" much less decade.

Hmmm...dunno, i always considered world of warcraft really bad, but maybe it's because i don't like MMO games and it meant no more warcraft rts, or any other kind of game for years...

Re: Games Discussion Thread

WoW may be bad to some, but it's amazing to others. And regardless of how much you like it, I wouldn't give it a "worst of" title ever. Not with the sales it has, and not with some of the other shitty games getting pumped out.

I'm looking at you Clash of the Titans.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Not liking the genre of a game isn't a very good reason to call it a bad game. I mean, I don't like or give two shits about fighting games, but that doesn't make SFIV or blazblue or whatever bad games. I never really got the appeal of WoW, but I don't think you could have a game be that successful if it was a legitimately bad game.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Yeah, i'm exagerating things, i've been waiting for so long that i build up a plethora of paranoid fears, like weird control issues, gamebreaking bugs, psychotic DRM idiocy, a bad story getting cancelled. Been the same with starcraft 2, it went better than i expected, overheating issues aside, but it's pretty common when you've been waiting for something for years to turn out into a disappointment. *cough*FF13*cough*

So i'll keep watching, every step it takes and every move it makes...

P.S.
The WoW thing was a joke, did i strike a nerve? o_O

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Recently found out about a game called 'FireFall'. Class-based team-combat shooter that's free-to-play. Kinda reminds me of Tribes, Borderlands, Monday Night Combat, Global Agenda, and Planetside, and probably a few other games, all rolled into one.

Still in development, though a closed beta is supposed to come out this year, from what I can tell.

Going by the gameplay trailer, it looks like a good game.

Today as part of general upkeep, vacuumed the inside of my comp. Should improve airflow, maybe some better performance. I've kinda noticed already. However, did also disconnect one of the three fans cause it was too noisy, might offset that...

Dragon Age 2 has received its ESRB rating and is rated M for Mature for Blood and Gore, Language, Sexual Content, Violence. You can read the entire rating description on the ESRB website.
In case, y'know, anyone thought that maybe it might be any different.

Also, new companion released and it's a returning one from .

Rumor mill has it

Also...

Various bits of speculation confirmed-ish. New Game Informer for March is supposed to have a write up. Time to go buy one without subscribing again. I wonder about my Gamestop sometimes...

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I hate world of warcraft because it's more of a job than a game, but there's a reason it is the standard that everybody compares every single other MMO out there to.

That said... SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS... REMADE?

I may buy a PS3 just for this.

Iiiiiinteresting. I'm not normally one for that sort of stuff (unless it's yaoi, strangely enough, or not the entire fricking focus of the porn...) but curiosity perked, definitely.

Hmm, may have to tell the friend about this. She's a huge fan of those games. I didn't like the controls on Colossus, myself.

Also, seen...what is it? Maijin, the Guardian? Same folks.
