Relevant because Google tends to be the machine translation of choice for projects that utilize them, and this article gives interesting insight into how it works and how it's evolving, which in turn can let those doing translations and using machine help to make better informed decisions about it.

Gotta say, Google online gives a -sometimes significantly- better translation quite a few times in Translation Aggregator, than Atlas or LEC does, sadly.
Even with Atlas and TA all properly set up, with the script and TAHelper. Maybe a switch to VNR is in order...
Anywho, Google takes a couple milliseconds more, and hell if I would want some effed up h-scene to go through it from my computer, though... xD

Google's a quick and dirty for Partials as there isn't much context to get bogged down in.
Personally, I also pass text through things like imTranslator, honyaku and I've recently started using Jisho and rikaichan.
But yeah. Google seems to be taking steps forward.

But that will eventually change, of course, as the Atlas database is static and unchanging in a limited space on my machine while Google has virtually unbounded growth potential.
I only use Google when Atlas gives gibberish and I'm interested in pursuing further. In those cases, I haven't seen much, if any, improvement.
