Ah, I was Regret, about twenty minutes ago. Ya had me early game with a buffed Rebecca (BoA) and I came back with a Natalie and two BoAs on her. Just wanted to post cause I thought you were checking here constantly, but eh, back to the tourney.

@Eab: Oh yeah, I FINALLY played some guy who used a Fizzle. It literally and figuratively did nothing.

Were you just blindly attacking a trap with 99% certainty that you'd win regardless, or did you hesitate and play it safe? If you did the latter, then Fizzle still played a purpose, even if it didn't work in the end.

At any rate, I don't expect Fizzle to accomplish its job all the time. Much like any trap, really.

Just won a game where I trusted my gut feeling that I'll be needing Jody and didn't discard her like I usually do. Turns out that I'd get my opponent down to 500+ health but he has board control with his Kirito on the field and I only had Framboise left. So I summoned Jody then used Framboise's skill, lucky win.

I have two characters with 4100 ATK in total, protected by a pair of weak traps. My hand is almost empty, but I'm pretty confident.

(2800/2200). I played out the remainder of the game out of petulance, but it was over when that card hit the field.

Now I'm trying to figure out countermeasures for that combo:

• have 2800+ ATK worth of cards in your hand when the board clear occurs
  • I had <1000 ATK in my hand
  • I'm pretty sure that I'd lose every match if I tried to play conservatively so as to maintain 2800 ATK in reserve
• if opponent's HP is very low: deploy Haste cards after board-clear and attack directly
  • I had actually discarded a

• hold a 2200+ ATK card in reserve; deploy it after the board clear; use a

  after Miyabi is played
  • I had the Decree in my hand, but not the heavy-hitter

  • Forcefield is SR; most people don't have one

  • do these even exist? I've never seen one in tournament play, and I've faced a few people in the top ten of the rankings

She is a crazy strong card. I almost wish she wasn't so rare (HR seems more rare than SR somehow) so that we could learn to play against her. It is hard to play against something that only .5% of all people have in their deck.

It helps to learn the names of people that have her, but other than that, the trap route is probably the best way to deal with that combo. To deal with Shalif in general, you kind of have to win board state closely enough that you lose the advantage to 2 haste creatures. If you are winning more than that, Shalif will probably mean huge card advantage for your opponent.

*edit* oh and Ex-Invitation to Hell is too expensive until the tournament ends. It costs 1500 medals. It will be more popular next tournament, because it is just better than Banish.

Yeah, I don't think you can really counter that, given it's basically a bomb (think YGO's cyber/fiber jars, which are banned for good reason). And fortunately, you don't really need to think about it since it's so rare. As far as really countering it...well, hand advantage helps, as does strong backrow presence. Having Nats and some BoAs are always useful too.

TBH, Shaif is a pretty unfair card in itself, just because you can just bait your opponent into developing field presence, store your backrow with buff-based defensive cards, and then wipe the field. Furthermore, your opponent can't even play around it, because it's so uncommon that nobody really thinks that's what's happening (I've never encountered it, let alone even heard of it until now).

@Eab: lol, eh I wasn't really dominating but to your point, Fizzle being any other trap wouldn't have mattered anyway (I was expecting a Dodge or PfB since my opponent played a Sylvie with about 16 mana total yet I just Decreed her and smacked Natalie into her). Just thought it was worth mentioning since most decks I've encountered are pretty much the same, save for the levels and upgrades on cards.

I agree that hand advantage would be crucial, but it's weird to think that you might need to hold a bunch of Haste cards permanently in reserve - just so that you can punish your opponent if he chooses to hit the reset button.

The speculative stuff is kinda moot, since Shalif on its own is merely a "screw you" thing. You can't block the card from entering the field, nor prevent its ability from triggering. All that you can do is seize the initiative afterwards and play to win.

that it becomes an "I win" strategy. Those cards might get focus-fired if they're summoned onto a crowded field, but on an empty field they're very strong (contrast

Ah it nukes the field? I was going off of the wiki link posted, which states that it's only creatures. If it's backrow too, yeahhh...that's nasty.

I liken it to the CED/Yata combo in YGO, way back when. Basically, you've got one turn (the initiative) to play all your cards, since it's highly unlikely your opponent can drop Shalif, use her ability, AND drop a high level monster all in one turn (unless they've stockpiled a ridiculous amount of mana). If that is the case, either you've got to have a large hand that includes buffs or defensive traps, or just GG. Hopefully in the future, there will be some traps that nullify an activated ability or something like that...you know, like other TCGs' counter-traps to make the game a bit more variable and interesting.

I guess I should have read the above posts better, ehehe. For some reason I was thinking it was supposed to be done like a flip summon because my selective reading saw cyber/fiber jar. So she's kinda like Jody but kills everything. That does sound unpreventable with the current cards we have.

Wanted to go out on a high note (got two matches against one of the rare guys below me), but now it looks like the string of misery has begun anew and I'll likely get 12 losses before getting that last win

I wish Nutaku would do a caption the screenshot for AS. I'd play until I got a whale and wait for them to summon the usual ensemble of SSRs and URs. I'd put "Avengers Assemble!" at the top then "The Invincible Flora", "The Incredible Miyabi", uhh maybe "Captain Rosary" and something for Onyx and Fatima, ehehe.
