So, uh. I figured, since I'll be getting a RAM upgrade for my computer in the near future, and the pack I'll be hosting is Yogscast Complete.

Yogscast Complete is a rather massive modpack made for the Yogscast and co. to create Minecraft videos. As a server pack exists, and the pack is public, I will be hosting a server running said pack.

The pack itself runs off the ATLauncher, which can be found

The pack contents can be found

Oh, and when it does go up, there'll be some slight restrictions.

In regards to Mystcraft, I will be setting up a central "hub" of sorts for all the Mystcraft to be done, with rooms for each individual player to do their Mystcraft in. This is so people don't make five thousand different Mystcraft ages and suck up server resources.

In regards to Buildcraft, I'll be asking that people have no more than 2 Quarries per person, to prevent the server from being lagged to all hell.

On the topic of Chunk Loaders: They will only be allowed on a case-by-case basis by permission only, to prevent the server from melting.

IF I CATCH ANYONE MAKING NUKES, THEY WILL BE SUMMARILY REMOVED FROM THE SERVER. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Nuclear reactors are perfectly fine, but nuclear bombs are a massive NO.

More to come if I think about it, and besides the above restrictions people will be able to go hogwild.

Every player will receive SOME of the following items to help get them started, though no other Creative Mode help beyond the Library with all the personal Mystcraft stuff will be given. Players can pick 2 of the 4 categories and receive the items within.

In addition, players may choose between either an Arcane Compendium, or a Thaumanomicon to go with their choices of starting items.

These are the files on the optional side of the installer that are required, and anything extra SHOULDN'T cause problems, so you can use your SP instance to play MP, if you have all the required mods.

Also, as a note, ChickenChunks has been disabled on the server as it's been known to cause problems. OpenComputers and its companion mod OpenComponents has been disabled due to version differences preventing people from connecting to the server.

i tried a friends vanilla server but i just can't live without automated mining and ore sorting machines.

The hatpack has an official server folder now? Also, why not the Yogscast complete pack? The only instability I saw from it was that it was laggy as fuck, but I though that was because my computer was simply not powerful enough for it. Was thinking of trying that out now that I have a fuckton of power on my PC after my upgrade, and if it worked I was thinking of starting a server for that, but if you're going to be running one (regardless of the modpack) I'm cool with that as well.

The reason why I don't want to run Yogscast Complete is because it eats up a metric shitton of RAM for both the user and server. HatPack is much more stable in that regard, and less prone to just crashing out because it ran out of RAM.

As for HatPack having an official server folder: Yes, it does, but it's only version 1.0.1, meanwhile 1.0.2 IS available for single-player.

Ah right, fair enough. And that's cool, I haven't really kept up to date with the Hatpack so I was unaware of that. A shame it's missing the one mod I was hoping for it to have but I can live without it. Just means I'll need to spend more time than I would've liked underground and in the nether. Any idea when this would be going live if you do get enough interest? Also, if possible, I think a weak infusion stone and a handful of essence seeds would serve be better than a thauminomicon. I have no intention of touching the current version of Thaumcraft.

Well, that does sound like a good idea @ the Essence Seeds and the Infusion stone, so I'll give folks the option of either.

As for when it'll be going up, likely after the 3rd of July, then it depends on how long my RAM upgrade actually takes to ship.

In addition, everyone will get a free, blank Thaumanomicon to do with as they please, as normally acquiring one is a crapshoot of looting dungeons, and I don't want anyone to miss out on one of the better mods in the pack. You'll still have to do research, and such, but this is more to help people get started on the path of the thaumaturge.
I'm reasonably certain you can craft a Thaumonomicon by using a wand on a bookshelf.

I'd certainly be interested in this, provided my aging laptop can run the pack without melting.

I did not know the wand + bookshelf thing was a thing at the time of writing that, but I'll still be offering that as well as the option to get a few Essence Seeds and a weak infusion stone to get started as those are an absolute pain to get normally.

As for your laptop being able to run it, I honestly don't know. Depends on how much RAM you have, really, and if you don't want a high res texture pack.

I'd recommend offering whatever the most basic thing is for blood magic as well seeing as that's in the modpack and people may want to work on that before the rest of the stuff. Never used it myself before so I don't know how easy it is to get into it.

Well, starting blood magic requires an altar and a sacrificial knife, but other than that I have no idea what it requires beyond multitudes of cutting oneself.

On the subject of blood orbs, those require a diamond, so I have no idea how cheaty it'd feel to give people the knife, altar, and orb.

Also, I need opinions on a few rules for actual mod settings.

Thaumcraft: I was thinking of upping the Aura Node density from the default 1 node per 16 chunks to 1 node per 8 chunks to make them a little easier to find and allow more over a smaller area so people don't end up having to travel for ages to find a node, and I need everyone's opinion on this setting.

As well, I need opinions on Taint spread, whether I should accelerate it, or slow it down.

Game Rules: I need opinions on mobGriefing being set to False to prevent Creepers from nuking shit and Endermen from stealing blocks and shit.

Also, I need opinions on turning on keepInventory, so you don't lose your shit when you die.

If there are other settings people think of that might need some tweaking in relation to mod config files, be sure to ask either here or in the Shoutbox. Want to get all this squared away for when I host the server so I don't have to toy around with it later.

I say yes to mobGriefing off and keepInventory (the latter cus why not, too many lava baths and ragequits losing goodies ',')

A bit of clarification on Thaumcraft things: Nodes are essentially used for gaining research points and refilling your wand with the base essences so you can use it for Thaumcraft-specific crafting or for your Wand foci. There are multiple different variables for each node, though the only 3 that are noticeable are Sinister, which darkens the land around it, Pure, which brightens the landscape around it and prevents Taint from spreading within its area of influence, and Hungry, which destroys blocks within a 5-block radius, as well as sucking in players or mobs that get too close, suspending them in midair before shooting them high enough into the sky to die of fall damage.

Taint is a mini-biome that spawns on world generation. It starts off small, however it spreads over time, and any mob that enters Taint slowly dies, before being reborn as a much stronger and aggressive version, in the case of peaceful mobs. As well, several rather powerful hostile mobs can spawn in Taint, and standing inside of a Tainted area can cause periodic damage and debuffs.

I say yes to upping the amount of nodes that appear and decrease the rate at which taint spreads. I've not played with the current Thaumcraft so I have no idea how you would actually cleanse the taint. I also say yes to turning off mob griefing and keeping inventory upon death.

Ditto for everything here for me.

I'll fiddle around with the more magicky mods to try to get an idea of how they work. I've mostly been working with the techy mods.

As for the blood orb thingy requiring diamond, the Essence stone thing for Magic Crops also requires a diamond, or an emerald. Just thought I'd bring that up. I have no idea about blood magic so I can't say if it's any more or less powerful than Magic Crops.

One other thing, I'd vote for allowing the watering can from Extra Utilities to be craftable, but that might make it too easy to use Magic Crops with.

Edit 2: Just played around with Ars Magica 2. It's pretty cool, but in order to even get started, you need to find Liquid Essence pools in order to make the Arcane Compendium and those are pretty rare from what I understand. I've been playing around with Hatpack for a little while and haven't even come across one. Maybe add an Arcane Compendium to the list of starting options? Though, really, you don't need the compendium (unlike Thaumcraft's book), it's just a guide, but it would save looking through wikis.

Magical Crops and Blood Magic are two completely different mods. One deals with resource production via farming and the other is insanely dark magic via blood and entity sacrifice. I've not touched Blood Magic though I have watched the various series put out by the Yogscast and from what I can tell there's no resource creation in BM.

Also, the watering can should be craftable by default, and it's pretty much a necessary item at the very beginning of Magical Crops otherwise you're going to be waiting a long goddamn time for anything to grow if you haven't already prepared a planter and harvester and the necessary upgrades to increase range, as well as perhaps a sprinkler and aqueous accumulator/pump&tank and infinite water supply. Hell, even if you have those things prepared earlier you're still going to need a watering can to get the additional seeds and batches of essence dust to make that machine set up effective because even then that set up is a fairly slow process. It's why I'm contemplating working with bees at the same time. Get myself an alveary or two and then begin breeding and mutating bees into the various resource producing bees.

It's one of the reasons why I was favouring the Yogscast Complete Pack. That has a bunch of other mods with it that makes resource gathering and production less of a risk via hammering cobble/gravel/sand/dust and then putting it through a sieve to get random resource drops. And while it's the luck of the draw on what you get you could always set yourself up in a desert and just mine the place with a hammer to get all the dust you'd need and then just put it through a sieve.

And with Ars Magica, I'm sure you're just having bad luck there. The book and item frame that are needed to create the compendium are a minor annoyance to make what with needing leather and animals not always spawning where/when you need them, but I'm certain the liquid essence pools aren't all that rare normally. Though yeah, I forgot that mod was in the Hatpack and was trying to remember earlier on what could also be put up as an option for people to pick from, so that's a pretty good idea as well. Also as another possible option, I'd recommend one apiary and a single princess and drone from the basic bees. While you can find them sometimes in a village the apiaries do require a bit of work to make.
