Re: Akabur Games

Pretty much it's some type of commissioned work

Here it is:

"Some time ago Disclaimer contacted me about creating a drawing to commemorate the 100th page of his project "The Manor".
Well the day of sharing is finally upon us - head to to check out the finished version.
I went with the pig sex scene because that would made me interested in the project at the first place...

Also high resolution version is in the attachment to this post".
This sounds a lot like: "Thank you all for donating $13,000 monthly to me without asking for anything in return other than me musing about my life about once a week. That left me plenty of time to add to my sizable income by doing commissions. Thanks, suckers!"

Good, he lost around 150 Patrons and about $800/month since last week-ish, guess some people are waking up to the trolling.

Re: Akabur Games

I've stopped supporting him for 3 months, after received tons of trash mail from him. I like his art but I won't throw my money anymore unless he start to work seriously again. I't will be much more than 150 people soon if he keep doing like this

That might just be because of a very different reason.
Patreon got hacked and their database with passwords, messages and whatnot got leaked.

No worries, everything was encrypted with a strong cypher, so even if it's stolen, they can't really do anything with the database...

Re: Akabur Games

Patreon is a bit fishy with respect to their dealings with supporters. When I got disillusioned with Akabur and decided to stop using Patreon at all (because I saw no way to determine who to trust) I wanted to get rid of my account. Do you know how hard it is to find out how to get out of Patreon? You'd think there would be a button that says "Delete my account." Or that there would be information in the Help system on how to delete an account. But noooooo...

Re: Akabur Games

Hypothetically speaking, since it is up to the Patreon-owner's discretion to remove delinguint/denied patrons from their Patreon once they see that someone's isn't actually paying them, be it from them using incorrect billing information or from using a maxed/closed credit card that cannot be charged by Patreon, how easy would it be for a Patreon owner to use sockpuppets with fake payment information to goose their displayed "per month/creation" total in an effort to encourage actual patrons to support the Patreon under the thinking of "Hey, this Patreon is really popular so this must be a good thing! I'd like to support a good thing too!"?

I think patreon is already swimming in money right now so there is no reason to employ such tactic.

"patreons" as in people being supported, not the company behind the website.

Think of it as a movie crew of an obscure movie going on IMDB and giving it a raving review. Or a small time game company posting a couple of lauding reviews on Steam (while the game was released a couple hours earlier and they already have 20-40 hours of gametime).

Not hard. Especially for Russians and the Chinese, renowned for creating phishing websites.

I don't think it works like that.

An artist who already makes a large amount of money is probably less likely to receive more donations. I was one of Akabur's early supporters (my $20 a month got him to the $2000 mark) and kept on supporting him with that amount until the disappointment of Witch Trainer. But aside from that, I don't really see the need to support a person who is already receiving $10.000+ a month with an extra 20 bucks from me.

Welcome to most of the online world. The only way this would change is the establishment of requirements to delete user information. Otherwise, it is technically cheaper to retain information than to delete it nowadays--additionally, they retain the opportunity that you might come back.

If you live in the U.S., the legislation needed is a pipe dream, as your politicians are owned by corporations. Consumer protections? Dream on.

Also, I concur with Oric13. Fake promoting your Patreon seems counterintuitive. I'd guess you'd lose more support than you might gain.

Kind of interesting (okay, "interesting" is a stretch), there is a rip-off of Magic Shop made by someone who is far less talented than Akabur. Its title is, ready for this? "Magic Shop"

Re: Akabur Games

Actually if you're talking about the one made by roninsong, it was around long before Akaburs' game.

Also I'd like to address something that's been bugging me for a while, I'm not singling anyone out but the posts that ask any updates? or is it out yet? every day or two are getting real fucking annoying, if there's new info I guarantee someone will post it, exercise some self control and display some patience.

Okay, I got it. I found the place that seems to be the source anyway, if all the Russian is any indication.

And really? That was made before Akabur? Then he is the ripoff?

It looks like they deleted or took the repo private when they released 1.5.1.

But how would people find out that someone was fraudulently boosting their own Patreon supporter numbers and money amount listed? Short of Patreon's database being hacked and patron info being dumped out onto the internet I don't see how someone boosting their own Patreon numbers would be found out and "lose support" because of it.

My point is not being found out, my point is someone finds your Patreon, sees you're already doing well and bringing in a good amount of money, they may choose instead to support a more needy developer. OR, just figures you're getting enough money and plays the freely available game without funding at all.

What I'm saying is that fake boosting your Patreon seems like it would lead to less funders and those who do fund pledging a lower dollar amount (unless you have good rewards). It just seems like a terrible scam idea to me. You'd be better served to somehow figure out how to HIDE your pledges and promote a needy persona--in my opinion.
