Pathfinder, anyone?

So to those who came to know me a bit, it isn't any secret that I failed to start a game up once before and have not been at all active in the current roleplaying scene on ULMF.

However, over the past few years, I've come to learn the Pathfinder roleplaying game system fairly well.

This is a complete shot in the dark here, but maybe some others here know it as well.

Would anyone here be interested in perhaps forming a Pathfinder group? A few people could switch off hosting roles and we could all play Pathfinder games together once or twice per week.

What do you guys think?

3.5 D&D could work too since they are basically the same game.

Re: Pathfinder, anyone?

Tentative interest shown with the caveat that I probably won't be able to make whatever time suits others, since european.

Tentative interest shown as well, with the same caveat as Spider's, but for different reasons.

Same. Curious as to setting, level, style of play, etc etc.

Re: Pathfinder, anyone?

Glad to see a level of interest, Woo, Pathfinder players.

Same. Curious as to setting, level, style of play, etc etc.

I can start off by giving an idea I've had as of late.

A group of poor European type adventurers from a fantasy kingdom take a merchant ship to a giant island country that is basically fantasy China. They are going to be working as part of a crew that will be taking an excavation trip down into a legendary dungeon for an unknown treasure that awaits inside. The party is roughly inexperienced, (Level 1 to 2), but are more a little extra support bought because they were cheap due to how weak they are compared to the vets going with them (Levels 6 to 7)

Sadly for them, the ship sinks somehow, and they are all left together in Fantasy China stranded and basically flat broke.

From there, the game would basically be them trying to work their ways up to either fund a trip back home, or to fund a trip into the dungeon.

the game would be 75% story and 25% smut. Sex would happen on the side outside of the main four to five hour game sessions each week. Basically you request oneshots from me.

I'd expect a party leaning towards good, and an all human one at that. Maybe an elf or two. No weird races though. Pls

So yeah, that is what I have rolling around in my head.

I'd like for one other person to be willing to host a game too for the group as a whole, so if someone would like to volunteer for such a position and maybe throw some ideas out, please step forward.

That setting sounds pretty neat actually...

I have a little bit of experience as a GM. If no one else would want to take up this role, I'll put myself up.

I have a setting thought up as well, and already ran it a little for a friend, so it's got a bit of field testing, as it were.

The game takes place in a psudo-Japanese/generic fantasy asian land that had been attacked by an army of demons, and then conquered by a generic western fantasy coalition of countries as they were recovering.

It would be a fairly sandbox-y kind of story for the most part. There is an overarching story, but in between those, the players would be free to do what they wanted.

Characters could be from either the eastern or western countries, meaning the typical fantasy fare (Elves, Dwarves, bearded wizards, etc.) are fine, as are eastern stuff (Kitsune, Samurai, Ninja, and so on). Any eastern characters would have to deal with being part of a subjugated population.

I dislike the absolute alignment system so none of that. Characters would only be bound by what the player thought fitted their ideals and personal values, though I would prefer the characters to at least have a conscience; Mildly evil is fine, as long as you realize that helping others sometimes also helps you and that killing and stealing from everyone you meet would get you either dead or locked up very quickly.

Instead of alignment, characters would have a sort of 'guiding vice', one of the seven classical sins (For refresher: Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Sloth, Gluttony and Wrath). This should reflect the character's inner desires, however well they keep it under control or not, but also isn't absolute. A Lustful character is free to be greedy or prideful as well, for example. These vices won't become a major component until the story was a fair bit underway.

So yah, that's the setting idea I had in mind. Again, if anyone else wants to do something instead, that's fine.

Edit: Oh, just to be clear, this'll be run over IRC or some other real-time chat stuff?

Re: Pathfinder, anyone?

Okay, those both sound pretty awesome.

I would like to step up and help split the load some, but I am horribad at maintaining a GM post. If we find that we'd like to round out the bits a little further, i could likely run something of a skirmish game, essentially plotless or plot-lite. mid to high level, probably participating in an arena of sorts. Would help me test out some things, balancing, etc, and yeah, could be fun.

Re: Pathfinder, anyone?

Most all that've been talked about sound pretty interesting and, yes, I also have some experience GMing (though I have to do it constantly, so when I sign up for a game, I tend to like to just play), but, in a pinch, I can throw things together if y'all don't mind me making things up as I go.

In fact, both settings sort of seem to blend well together, if you think about it. Also don't mind role vs roll play (saw a demotivational just last night: Dungeons and Dragons: Where a 3 hour walk takes five minutes and a 5 minute combat takes 3 hours [So true.]) Not that I'm against combat, mind you, but I glaze over it as applicable, myself.

Might be able to make sessions, pending on when they are. As of right now, my Fridays, Sundays, and Wednesdays are right out (though Sun. might change to Monday, pending on other gaming schedules.) Sort of 'decide when you're doing it' and if I can make it, banner, if not, I'll have fun reading about it, maybe?

Also, if anyone wants/needs info on Pathfinder's Oriental characters, I've got the Jade Empire gazetteer and the Advanced races book. I know Ant said nothing weird, but for Maiko's thing, maybe. I'd be willing to shoot info in people's directions.

Shoot me then, if ya don't mind. I was about to go hunting for that info myself, but got distracted by the television. XD

I was liking the idea of the oriental characters in Maiko's half being subjugated. Perhaps I could run my character owned by someone else, could be fun.

Re: Pathfinder, anyone?

If anyone's interested, here's the SRD for Pathfinder, with, it appears, a good deal of the supplemental material, and even some 3rd party stuff.

Oriental races are mostly under the Uncommon Races section. Ninja and Samurai are under Alternate Classes, and a good deal of the regular classes have some oriental variations.

Re: Pathfinder, anyone?

I kind of want to play a wrathful paladin. But yeah, both campaign ideas sound fine to me as well. I'd offer to GM, but I'm already GMing as many things as I can handle, I think.

Re: Pathfinder, anyone?

Both ideas interest me, and in the interests of maintaining my sanity I would have to refuse to GM anything ever. Also, I may or may not be getting a job that would be starting at 7 PM and getting out at 3 AM, EST, so I put forth my involvement as tentative at best.

Maiko I'd be happy to have you be my co host.

I'd like for us all to be able to play over Roll20 for things like maps and such. Outside of combat everything could just be done in Skype or something of the like. This is generally how I play. If anyone has any suggestions to an easy system of playing these types of games that won't make my head explode, please feel free to suggest them.

Once we have certain things ironed out, I'll be setting things up so we can have information for the setting(s) ready and a schedule optimized to fit the most amount of people.

Ah, hell. I don't do video or voice online, so if that's the case, looks like i'm out. Judging from skype and the front page of that Roll20 site, at least.

Re: Pathfinder, anyone?

Hmm... I prefer to avoid video and speech stuff as well. There's a program some friends and I use called OpenRPG, that has a good map system and easy to use dice-roller. I have heard reports that it can be finicky to set up and get started, however, though I've never had problems with it. Also, it's free and no ads.

A chat program like IRC or Trillian or any other IM service would be my next preferred medium.

Website for OpenRPG:
