You can withstand basic, mild, and sometimes major levels of mental assaults, but anything higher or prolonged and you will not succeed.

Increased Attraction: You received a blessing at the temple of Lequis on your undergarments and now people find you more attractive than you originally were. (Requires Lequis Blessed thong, garter belt, bra, and stockings being worn).

And what is this? A short post?! Holy crap I didn’t think it would be possible after the temple of Domina’s walls! Well, since we’re out of the character building sections for the moment and moving onto actionier and exploration based segments perhaps we’ll see a decline in the amount of reading you’ll have to do for a little while!

You think about it for about a minute as Helena busies herself with her gourd, drinking and humming as you weigh your options. Eventually, you decide that – against your better judgment – that you think it would be best to go to the sewers, and more importantly to search for the rift down there so that you stop having these nagging feelings that pull you towards it and likewise continue to invade your dreams. Even though you’re inwardly frowning at the thought of going to the sewers, you turn to Helena and grin mischievously and say, just as she finishes another drink, “Helena, my love, how do you like sewers?” She stares at you with a stoic expression on her face for a few seconds before all she says is “Fuck” and then sighs and nods. You laugh, glad that you’re not the only one dreading the trip into the putrid sewers of the city and also glad that you’ll have company this time around just in case. You look down at your coat at the red slime and smile as you say “Hey, little one, want to go to the sewers with us?” The slime, ever eager to be around you – and you think you see a tiny speck of something inside it, but dismiss it for now – ripples happily in response. With that all set you and Helena check your gear, though obviously you have more to check given that Helena only has her sack, gourd, Pulverizers, and blessed gi. You check to make sure your boots are tighten, that your dagger on your left boot is secured before turning your attention to your throwing knives are nice and snug on your right thigh over Skin-Walker as you look inside your trench coat. The quiver on your back is secure as is the bow, which is also situated in such a way so as to not obstruct your pack too much should you need to get inside. Your short sword is sheathed in its scabbard on your utility belt on your left, whereas the belt itself is firmly held around your waist. You make sure the black silk fabric is tied relatively tightly so that your ponytail isn’t in danger of being undone and that your hair is completely pulled back behind you – you look to Helena and think that she may need something similar, but her mane shouldn’t be as difficult to manage considering hers is only shoulder length. With that set you smile to Helena and gesture in the direction of the red light district and likewise the entrance to the sewers between the gap from the district and the slums.

“I fucking hate the sewers. It always smells like, well, shit… probably because that’s what’s down here” Helena says as she lands on her feet, having hopped off the ladder the last few rungs as she crinkles her nose and points to the lovely stream of brown and green water below. You follow shortly afterwards and groan in agreement as the distinct aroma of sewage wafts into your nostrils, which is none too pleasant considering you haven’t been down here in quite a while so your body has seemingly forgot what it was like. Still, you can’t help but smile at the knowledge that you’ll have backup, and one so sexy at that. “I agree completely, but I really want to find that rift and find out why I’m having these urges and strange dreams. Having you here will certainly help, considering the last time I was down here I used my enchanted bow and set a few rats on fire. Ugh, nasty… alright, which way?” “Well, from what I could tell during my time with Gaius and Jazra the rift should be deeper into the network, which means we’ll having to find corridors that lead down and most likely passed nests of rats and spiders. Oh, and while I was under the effects of their magic I also saw a giant magical energy moving around near the rift. I don’t know what it was, but it was definitely big. Just a heads up” you explain as you try your best not to breathe through your mouth. “Fantastic; we get to run into spiders and rats while we search down here. Well, I guess if they don’t run away from us then we’ll have ourselves a nice little scrap or two to ease the boredom” Helena says with disgust as she covers her mouth and nose with her hands before sighing and saying “Alright, lead the way fearless leader. Speaking of Jazra, I don’t know how much sex you’ll be having outside of temples or with loved ones, or sex demons, but if I were you I would recommend going to his shop and buying a contraceptive. I’ll share mine with you, but unless you want to get pregnant then I would drink some at least once a week. It also prevents parasites, which is pretty nice”. You don’t run across many critters down here compared to last time; you see a few rats of course, but since you’re not really looking for a fight you don’t bother sneaking or attacking the cowardly creatures, and as soon as you approach they squeak and scurry off into a nearby passage. You don’t think it would be wise to follow any of them into their nest – despite their cowardice you don’t think they would take too kindly to having an invader in their homes, which would most definitely be packed full of giant rats… until you and Helena started to slay some of them, at which point they might turn tail and run. You also haven’t seen any spiders, thankfully, which you assume means that they prefer to keep to the lower levels exclusively unless given incentive to make their way further up like last time when you roasted some rats – you also take note of a few other ladders scattered about the sewers that lead up into the city as well as, and you even found a familiar path that Nyx showed you earlier that leads outside the city… and to her room. “Fucking hells… I think I’m used to the smell by now” Helena says loudly as she spits into the stream beside you “Must be nice for our little red slime to not have a nose. It’s too bad none of those rats have enough backbone to take us on. So, how much further we going?” “I’m looking for a side passage that leads straight down so we don’t have to fight anything. Well, at least not right away – I don’t know what’s down here besides spiders and rats, and I know for a fact that they live further down. I’m hoping to avoid them or not deal with as many as possible – Ah, look there! That looks like it goes down a fair way, and it’s pretty wide too!” you explain to Helena as you continue exploring the sewers while walking in front of her, until you spot a relatively wide stone passageway the leads straight down into the depths of the sewers. It also has stairs, which is fairly unique from the smooth and moist stone that you’re accustomed to down here. “Well would you look at that” Helena says as she whistles sharply, which you have to admit annoys you since it kind of gives away your position, before adding “I say we check it out! It doesn’t look like complete ass compared to everything else down here. Race you down!”

Helena winks at you as she saunters passed you before bolting down the stairs, her leather steel toed boots resounding and echoing off the stone as she descent into the darkness below. “H-Helena, wait! We don’t know what’s down the- oh, come on! She has no tact or subtlety at all, does she little guy” you say as you reach your hand at to Helena as she goes further down, then chuckling and shaking your head in annoyance as you direct your question to the red slime. The slime, as per usual, simply ripples – whether at being given attention or in understanding you don’t really know – but you decide to hurry down the stairs at a brisk, and much quieter, pace after your noisy lover. You make it to the bottom of the steps after a few minutes and find Helena standing near the bottom staring out into the room – when you reach her you smile and reach out to put a hand on her shoulder, and then you really notice the room. “Whoa…” is all you say as you look out into a massive room and you almost don’t hear your lover say “Whoa is right; I never knew a place like this existed down here”. Indeed you would never have guessed that below the city there was a massive and mostly barren room like this, but there’s a reason for that. You’re not really in a full room per se, but instead you’re standing on a large cross shaped stone catwalk that extends out in front of you perhaps a city district’s length to the other side, though you can’t really tell exactly how far it extends given that there’s a giant support pillar in the center of the catwalk. The catwalk itself has a completely solid chest high stone railing, and from the four corners of the room from two slots on each corner – a total of eight slots in all – flows sewage from the upper levels that cascades like a waterfall further down into the depths. You look over the solid, and somewhat bumpy, stone railing and see that the sewage falls down into darkness; however, you know there’s a bottom as you can hear running water faintly down below, but it’s difficult as you hear the sound of sewer water around you.

“Well” Helena says “First thing’s first; we need to get our bearings. Let’s go over to that giant column over yonder and see what’s going on at the other ends of this huge fucking place”. “Now that I can agree on” you say with a laugh as you walk over to Helena, peck her on the cheek, then make your way towards the center pillar… support beam… column… whatever you want to call it. It takes a little while walking at a leisurely pace for you and Helena to reach the massive towering column, which is made of a dark stone and somewhat smooth, but when you do you get a better look at your surroundings. It’s hard to tell, but to your left and right you can see that the catwalk leads into passages of some sort, maybe rooms? It’s too hard to tell given the darkness, but you think it’s either a room or another passage. That reminds me; why can I see so well down here? Shouldn’t it be pitch black? you think as you look around the room, and then you see it. Apparently Helena does as well as she says and points around the room “Hey, would you look at that! There are magical orbs of light floating around the room, just like in the city at night! Neat – I wonder why they’re here. Wherever the fuck here is”. You nod and grunt in response as you look around and ponder the possibilities “Well, maybe some of the city’s workers, maybe mages, come down here for work. I mean, this place has to have a purpose after all. Maybe there’s some sort of magic further down that works like the enchanted rags we have? Breaking everything down and cleaning the water or something like that and then – oh gods”. “What?” Helena asks curiously, but you’re still hung up on the implications, especially thinking about the water you got from the fountain a week ago – “What if” you say with horror “What if they have enchanted cleaning apparatuses of some sort exactly like the rags we have, or maybe just magical barriers that cleans the water and cycles it back through the city to be used in the chamber pots, baths… and drinking water?” “That’s fucking nasty” Helena thinks as she shudders “Wish I didn’t have that image… but I guess it makes sense. Not like it’s harmful after all – I mean, I’m no magical expert or anything, but the way I understand it is the enchantments and magic would break down all the muck and convert it to magical energy, absorbing it to fuel the magic as it cleans the water”. You nod in understanding and the slime ripples, but still… the thought of potentially drinking sewer water, even magically cleaned sewer water, does make you a bit queasy.

After you get over the initial shock of your idea, which you aren’t even sure is entirely accurate, you take another look down the two side passages before moving around the other side of the pillar and looking out at the other end of the giant stone catwalk, which you believe to be close to fifteen feet from rail to rail. “Huh” is all you say as you look out at the other end of the catwalk, which has a glowing orb of magical light floating above the entrance, which you can clearly see leads down another set of stairs and further into the bowels of the sewers. “What?” Helena says as she walks around, and when you point towards the entrance she says “Oh, well that’s pretty convenient. Well, let’s go- hey, what’s the deal?” Helena finishes before marching off towards the stairs. You’re ready for her this time as you grab her by the shoulders and pull her back and, when she turns to face you, you say “I know that you’re not the biggest into stealth and caution, Helena, but I am. Call it my roguish nature, but I like to be quiet and, you know, not announce to the world that I’ve arrived unless I absolutely have to. Can you try to keep it down for me, please?” You look into Helena’s eyes pleadingly and, after a moment, Helena sighs and nods with a weak smile and says “Alright, babe, sorry – I’ll try to keep it down… just don’t expect me to be good at it. It’s not exactly my strongest point, so if we need to move quietly around something I think it would be best to either leave me behind, have you go in first or attack first, or just rush in”. “Thank you” you say sincerely as you kiss her tenderly on the lips, drawing a moan from both of you before you add “And besides, who knows what the other passages hold, hmm? There could be something important like treasure… or maybe more rats or spiders, which means you’ll get that scrap you’ve been itching for” you say the last with a slightly mischievous grin. Helena laughs lowly and a fire sparks in her eyes “Well then, what’s the plan… boss?”

You chuckle and think Boss, huh? I like it! Now, what to do – going further down would probably bring us closer to the rift, but I’m also curious what the other passages have. I could always turn back and come here at a later time since I know the route now, but that would be a bit tedious to be honest. No matter what I choose I should get my weapons out just in case. With the last thought you reach into your coat with your left hand and pull your dagger from your boot, and with your right you unsheathe your enchanted short sword and hold it in your right, eager to test how your training with Carth in dual-wielding holds up in real combat… if you run into anything that is. Helena grins wickedly when you do so and pounds her fists together and says “Now you’ve got my attention~. Anything gets in our way and I’ll fuck it up ten ways to next week”. You grin and nod before looking down each of the passages one last time, thinking about your decision.

The Character/Environment Interaction system allows you to interact with the world around you as well as interact with Colette or other characters in the story. Want to have Colette tie her hair up? Then choose this along with the main choices. Want her to stow away a stone, or tie up a bad guy with a rope? Go right ahead! Maybe you're in the middle of a fight and feel that clothing is too cumbersome. You can put on make-up, put clothes on and take clothes off, kick over a bucket, slap a succubus' ass.

Mental Fortitude Expert: As a result of training with Astraea you have developed an expert understanding of shielding your mind against mental probes and attacks, as well as having majorly increased your natural magical reserves in the process. You can withstand basic, mild, and sometimes major levels of mental assaults, but anything higher or prolonged and you will not succeed.

Increased Attraction: You received a blessing at the temple of Lequis on your undergarments and now people find you more attractive than you originally were. (Requires Lequis Blessed thong, garter belt, bra, and stockings being worn).

You thank Helena before you both march quietly… well as quiet as you can manage given that Helena is rather inept when it comes to stealth. She’s louder than you are for one, which isn’t a fair comparison since your bodysuit helps to dampen the noise you make but still you would be much quieter, and she also manages to knock on things and occasionally trip over her feet. You groan and roll your eyes as you near the passage and, upon further examination from your distance, you can see that it has a narrow passage roughly seven feet high and seven feet across that makes a sharp turn to the right maybe fifteen feet in. “Spooky” is all Helena says as you both gaze into the narrow tunnel and, though you might be wrong, you think you hear some sort of scuttling and creaking coming around the corner. “Do you hear that?” you say quietly to Helena as you tilt your head to the side in the hopes of hearing better. Helena does the same and, after a little while, she says “Yeah… wonder what it is? Sounds oddly familiar though – well, not time like the present to get things done. After you, boss”. Helena extends her hands out and bows her head as she smirks, and you shake your head in amusement as you say “That’s more like it, minion. Anyways, I think you should hang back just a little bit so I can scout it out first since you’re not very, um, ‘experienced’ with stealth”. Helena looks up and glares at you and says “And what the fuck’s that supposed to mean? I thought I was being pretty cautious and quiet on the way over here” “Oh nothing, nothing… you could use some work is all” you say as you defensively throw your arms up, sword and dagger still in your hands, and smile.

She narrows her eyes at you and you decide to not say anything more and scout ahead. You flip your hood on and crouch down, letting the blessings take effect on your trench coat. This earns a gasp from Helena before she says “Cool”, making you smile as you slowly make your way down the somewhat dark corridor as your trench coat’s camouflage takes effect, making it so that you blend into your dark stone surroundings. As you reach the corner of the passage further down with Helena six or seven feet behind you and not being as sneaky as you are, you pop your head around the corner and see two things. The first is light, and not the light of a torch as this one seems steady and constant which must mean that there’s another magical orb somewhere in what looks to be a room. The second, and one that makes your skin crawl, is that what you can see of the room – which you judge to be somewhat spacious, is that there is webbing nearly everywhere; it’s on the floors, the walls, and on what looks to be an mage’s enchanting bench on the far side of the room directly across from you, which you think has some items, maybe a crystal even, on it. You start to turn back to face Helena, but something catches your eye, something black, red, and with yellow on it. You look closer and see, near the entrance to the web covered room, a giant spider slowly skitter into view. You watch as it stops near the entrance and shakes it’s body a few times and twitch erratically as it gazes into the tunnel where you’re at. At first you think it might see you, but that can’t be possible considering its dark, only a small portion of your head is poking out, and you’re camouflaged! Still, it’s unsettling… or maybe it’s the spider itself that is getting on your nerves – for one, it looks evil and twisted for some reason. You figure it must have some sort of vile disease or affliction as a good portion of the body is covered in these horrible bloated warts. Aside from that it looks thinner than the previous spiders you encountered before, however, it’s abdomen is rather large and it also has very sharp looking fangs that twitch and drip with some sort of nasty green looking venom, and it’s legs look particularly vicious as they come to very sharp points and have what looks to be serrated edges lining the exoskeleton of its appendages.

Not to self: Don’t get bit and definitely don’t go near the legs. Those both look like they can ruin my day. It does look frailer than the other spiders, but definitely better equipped to kill it seems.

You note that, aside from its multitude of evil and intelligent looking eyes, its torso is red, its legs are black, and it’s abdomen is black with some sort of strange yellow design on the top that vaguely reminds you of a shield.... almost. You drop into your aura sight and, as the world bleeds away into one filled with the magical pulsing and fissures, as well as threads, of this plane you focus in on the spider. You note the magical glowing threads that somewhat pulse and stream with magical energy, which makes you very happy to see, and you note the red pulsing coming from its body and the blue fissures that line the rest of the abhorrent figure.

So, strong against fire and weak against ice – I guess it’s a good thing that I know a little bit more about my blue crystal then you think before another of the creatures, this one having bloats on dotting its form as well, comes into view beside the spider as it twitches and acts erratically. It bumps, or rather slams, into the other spider and clanks its fangs together while it stomps two of its eight wicked legs on the webbed floor. It seems to be communicating with the spider as the other one, the one you were watching, slams back into the other spider and twitches its fangs before stamping four legs on the webbing. After a few more clanks, stomps, and twitches the spiders move to the back of the room and then move out to the left and right and out of your sight.

Well, that was thoroughly interesting and creepy at the same time. Better tell Helena about this.

You quietly make your way back to Helena and stand up while removing your hood, prompting Helena to gasp quietly as you come back into view as you approach her. “Dammit, you scared me” she says quietly before adding “So, what’s the scoop?” “Giant spiders” you say with a frown “And not just any giant spiders. These ones look thinner than the ones I encountered before and have deadly sharp fangs, legs with terrible looking edges on them that end on an equally sharp point, and huge abdomens with a strange yellow shield-like insignia on it. They’re black, red, and nasty looking, oh and they have strange and ugly warts all over them and seem to twitch and move erratically”. Helena seems to ponder your description of the spiders and says “Well, that’s not good. I didn’t think we had those around these parts… at least not here in the city”. “Those?” you ask as you raise an eyebrow “So you’ve seen these types of spiders before?” Helena nods her head before saying “Yeah, and they’re nasty fuckers too. I don’t know about the warts or strange movements – maybe it’s some sort of disease or some shit – but as for the rest… yeah I know what they are. They’re called dire spiders, and boy are those fuckers ruthless. They’re smarter, meaner, and deadlier than your average creepy crawly, but thankfully they’re not as good at taking hits as other spiders… unless - you didn’t happen to see an armored looking one did you?” You shake your head and Helena breathes a sigh of relief before continuing “That’s good – if you saw an armored looking one then you just went and found yourself a dire spider queen. They’re about a little bigger than the others from what I hear – I haven’t actually seen one – but they’re much tougher and meaner than their spawn. They can take more damage than the others, so either focus on their spawn first, the queen, or get the fuck out of wherever you’re at pronto. We’d be doing the city a favor if we took them out since they kind of tend to kill everything around them and take over other territories. I’m surprised there haven’t been any reports given their nature”.

“Yeah, that might be best – I just don’t know how many there are besides two that I saw, and it’s a big room over there. Speaking of which, I also saw an enchanter’s workbench that was covered in webbing, just like the rest of the room I saw, but it looked like it had some valuables on it. So there’s that” you saw as you think it over, biting your bottom lip in thought at the prospect of facing some nasty spiders versus the potential reward. “Rogues” Helena scoffs playfully “Always thinking about the money and rewards~”. You shrug your shoulders and smile “What can I say? I like shiny things – more importantly, how are we going to do this if we do decide to attack?” “I would say rush in and fuck shit up, but with this it might not be the best idea. Maybe lure them out somehow? This hallway is a great place to funnel them in and pick them off from a distance, course they can climb walls so forget trying to get one at a time. Whatever you decide I’ll follow your lead, babe”. You nod and think your options over.

She’s right about funneling them in, but that would make it hard for us to fight as well. Still, we could rush in and try to surprise them. I can throw up an ice shield on myself and Helena and we could bum rush… or not. Still, the ice shield’s not a bad option either way given the webbing. Say… the webbing! I still have the Alchemist’s Fire that Lula gave me a while ago! Maybe I could set the room on fire? Oh, but then I might lose all the valuables that might be in there!

You sigh silently as you consider your options, though your nearly motionless and slimy companion on your coat ripples a few times in encouragement, making you smile as you rub the back of your left hand along it in thanks.

Well, at least little red believes in me! Maybe it'll even come in handy during a fight? I would rather itdidn't get in the fray though, so if I do decide to fight then I'll set it down somewhere.

The Character/Environment Interaction system allows you to interact with the world around you as well as interact with Colette or other characters in the story. Want to have Colette tie her hair up? Then choose this along with the main choices. Want her to stow away a stone, or tie up a bad guy with a rope? Go right ahead! Maybe you're in the middle of a fight and feel that clothing is too cumbersome. You can put on make-up, put clothes on and take clothes off, kick over a bucket, slap a succubus' ass.

Explanation of magic crystals, health, ability ranks, etc.

The learning system: What I wanted to do for this is instead of having a level up system, you have a "learning up" system of sorts where you learn by doing. While on our grand adventure there will be many choices, and from these choices you will be able to specify how to deal with these siuations, e.g. sneak up behind evil warlock and stab him through the back with shortsword, or seduce the shopkeeper for a discount or information, blast the cute little bunny with a fireball. In each instance you're using a skill or a weapon, and the more you use it the better you'll be at it. Everything has 4 ranks and they are as follows:

Rank 0/4 - You can't even use it because you suck at it! (Yes I know I said 4, but deal with it!)

Rank 1/4 - Novice level (You can use it, not recommended but given time you'll improve)

Rank 2/4 - Journeyman level (You're pretty darn good. Better than most people in fact)

Rank 3/4 - Expert level (You're a professional and it shows. Others have a hard time keeping up with you as an expert)

Rank 4/4 - Master level (Others are in awe. What you do is second nature and has no equal)

So in short, if you sneak around during options more, or use a bow, or charm, or whatever more often then I'll improve the rank which will make things easier and inevitably change the dialogue to reflect your skill.

Magic Crystals: Magic crystals are my way of introducing magic to the adventure. The only creatures that can use magic without the use of magic crystals are magical beings and magical monsters (tentacle beasts, succubi, incubi, vampires) that absolutely need magic energy in order to survive. Thus if a succubus keeps using fireballs without finding a means to recover their reserves then they are weakening themselves. For non-magical beings such as us, we use magic crystals which are created from magical rifts. They fit in the palm of your hand and, as long as have it on your person, you can call upon the magics inside (kinda like materia for you FF7 fans). Each crystal has 3 charges at rank 1/4 with one spell that uses 1 charge, 4 charges at rank 2/4 that uses 2 charges when used, 5 charges at rank 3/4 with a spell that uses 3 charges, and at rank 4/4 you get a really powerful spell that uses up all the charges.

Now if you've been paying attention (or not, it's okay I understand) I may have mentioned magical reserves, or MR, a few times. Think of MR as mana; after the charges on your crystal are used up then you resort to the natural magics in your body to cast spells. For example, say you have 0/3 charges left on your Red crystal and can't shoot a fireball and have 50/50 MR, well then you're in luck! You can use, lets say, 10 MR in place of a charge which leaves you with 40/50 MR. Be wary, as it takes 1 hour for 10 MR to recharge (if you have Magical Regeneration Decay then it's cut in half).

If a being that needs magic to survive gets your essence (blood or sexes you up) don't worry, you won't lose your MR! Instead it will heal them, e.g. You have 50 total MR then they are healed the equivalent of being in caution level health to barely in fine levels of health, but with Source of Energy this effect doubles, so if you have 50 total MR then it would heal double.

This leads me to my next explanations - Health: Health is pretty simple actually. Think of Resident Evil going from "Fine" to "Caution" to "Danger". Things will get progressively worse for our heroine from there, but I will try to refrain from killing her of and instead treat it as her being knocked out. You get health back by eating, drinking, resting, healing spells, and health potions.

Passives: This one is is what I like to call "passives". These are similar to the powers you chose in the first round of voting in that some effect things in small ways. As you Colette adventures along she may come across people or things, wear certain clothes, etc. that give her passive effects that may last as long as a requirement is met or forever. For example, if Colette wears a corset then she'll have a passive that will lead people to look at her breasts more which would increase her charm, or she could be bestowed a power from a god or goddess that improves her eyesight. They won't be all over the place but they'll be there to get if conditions are met, and some won't be readily apparant.

Inventory/Appearance: I'll list all the things that Colette is carrying and wearing and how she looks at the current moment. Simple as that.

Recharging Magic Crystals: Remember how I said that magic crystals have charges? That doesn't mean that once all the charges are gone then the crystal is useless. It simply needs to be recharged! To recharge a magic crystal you can do one of two things. First: Wait. One charge replenishes itself once every 24 hours due to absorbing the natural magics in the world. Second: Find a magical rift. Get close enough to a magical rift with a magic crystal on you and it will fully recharge a magic crystal. That's all there is to it guys!

You think of a plan that just might work as you run it through your head and imagine the hallway you were just in, thinking of a way to properly use it to your advantage, especially against creatures that can walk on walls. After a few moments you nod your head, more to yourself than anyone else, before reaching out with your left arm to the slime. “Find somewhere safe to hide, little red. Things are going to get dicey and I don’t want you to get hurt” you say sweetly to your small and amorphous companion – the slime doesn’t respond for a moment, and then it ripples ever so softly in understanding before it rolls and morphs onto your coat covered arm. You watch with a smile as it makes its way down your body and moves to the back of the passage near the entrance, stopping as it seemingly watches you. You can’t help but notice that you think you might see a small pebble-like speck in the slime, but shake it off as you turn your attention back to Helena now that the most delicate of your friends is out of harm’s way. “I take it that means we’re gonna fight the nasty buggers?” Helena says with an eager smirk on her face, showing a few teeth as she clenches and unclenches her hands in anticipation. You nod and say “That it does, but first I think you should listen to my plan. I’m going to use my ice magic on us both and cast an ice shield on us. Hopefully it will be enough to stop most of the damage if either of us gets hit by the spiders. After that I’m going to try and lure the spiders out and into that narrow passage like you suggested, and I want you nearby to help me fight” you explain quietly as you look over your shoulder, hoping that your talking doesn’t draw any unwanted visitors. “Sounds good to me, let’s do it” Helena says, but you interrupt her before she can continue and add “But, and this is important, I want you to focus on anything that tries to flank us first and foremost. So anything that’s crawling along the walls that might want to get beside or behind us – while you do that I’ll focus on the spiders in front of us, specifically their legs since those seem to be the most immediate threat. If there’s nothing trying to flank us then help me finish off whatever’s in front of us. I’ll be using the magic of my white crystal to blind them should they get too close anyhow – I’ll call out for you to close your eyes when I’m about to do so just so I don’t blind you, okay?”

“Shit” Helena says with a grin “You got it all figured out, huh? If I didn’t know any better I’d say you were an officer in the military, or a fucking general by the sounds of it. But yeah, it sounds like a good plan to me. I got your back covered, babe”. You push your lips out in a kissy pouty face before saying “Don’t tease~ - alright… are you ready for this?” – Helena nods and, with that last bit of understanding, you grip the dagger in your left hand and likewise do the same for the short sword in your right while Helena pounds her fists together. You round the corner first with Helena right behind you, all pretenses of stealth and subtlety far from your mind and indeed are not a part of your plans. You and Helena both gaze down the hallway into the magically lit room and at first you don’t see any dire spiders, but you aim to change that very soon, but first thing’s first. You focus on the magic of your blue magic crystal and glow in a dim blue light before you release the magic on yourself, creating the familiar blue shield that envelops your body before becoming clear, and then repeating the process for Helena. With that out of the way you take stock of the hallway itself which is probably between fifteen and twenty feet, you surmise, which is about the length of the previous hall that you just turned from – “Time to lure them out” is all you say before you move to the far left while Helena remains behind you. You grip your dagger and start rapping it against the stone of the semi-dark hallway – which you hope will work to your advantage when using the magic crystal to blind the spiders – and causing the clanks and clunks of steel on stone to echo and resound down along the length of the passage. You and Helena continue to move further down the hallway and you feel Helena tense up behind you in preparation as your own muscles seem to clench, though for the moment nothing seems to be coming – you grip your short sword and bring your right hand up and start to pound the stone with the pommel of your blade. If that doesn’t bring them I don’t know what will aside from screaming my head off you think as you bang the not-business-end end of your short sword against the stone, trying to get a reaction from whatever spiders might be lurking in what seems to be a mage’s old abode, which also raises the question of why someone would have a place down here to begin with. “Must be hard of heari- oh… fuck. What the fuck is wrong with it? You weren’t kidding; something’s wrong with it” Helena starts to say in annoyance, but her tune quickly changes when finally an atrocious looking dire spider, covered in warts and twitching erratically, comes into view at the end of the hallway.

It twitches and convulses sharply, and each of its eight legs taps the webbing clad ground as it eyes you… and then from all three sides of the entrance to the room – top, left, and right – appears pointy, serrated-edge legs before the full bodies of three more dire spiders come into view, their fangs twitching and dripping venom as they look at you evilly as they hang from the wall. Tch, I guess it’s no surprise that there’s more than two in there. Hopefully there aren’t any others wai- crap! Fast! you think in irritation as you examine each of the four equally disgusting and deadly looking spiders before, with no warning at all, the one on the floor and the one on the right wall rush at you at full speed, followed shortly by the one on the ceiling and then the one on the left wall. “They’re fast!” Helena yells out behind you and you hear her pound her fists together before laughing and yelling out “Get ready! Come and get it you ugly fucks!” You can’t help but admire Helena’s gusto in face of such creatures, but you don’t dwell on it for long as you focus on your white magic crystal, causing you to glow in a dim white light as you take a defensive stance, holding your short sword below your left arm and your dagger slightly over your left shoulder, just as Carth taught you. You’re ready to strike and evade in any event as you mentally countdown the time you think it will take for the spiders to reach you. Just a little bit closer… three… two… one… you think as the one on the right and the floor are a few seconds closer than the other two. You hope it will be enough for all of them as you yell out “Close your eyes!” and then, when the spiders are less than five feet from you, you focus and release the charge on the crystal, causing a blinding light that spreads out like water on a dry cloth throughout the passage which, oddly enough, doesn’t seem to affect you. You pray and hope with all your might and, when the light dims down enough for you to actually see… your heart soars in triumph!

You see all four of the dire spiders on the ground a few feet from each other, all writhing, wriggling, and banging up against the walls or each other. The one that was on the ceiling writhes on its back and moves its sharp arms erratically as it makes a strange and terrible guttural noise, while the one that was on the left wall managed to land upright, but continuously bumps into the wall that it was crawling on. The one that was originally on the ground and the one that was on the right wall are tangled up in each other’s legs and actually cause some damage to themselves trying to get loose as their legs cut their bodies. “Haha, fuck yeah! I can’t believe that worked! Alright, time to fuck their shit up!” Helena yells out boisterously and with a laugh as she charges forward and passed the nearest spider – you agree wholeheartedly and, not wanting to waste this incredible opportunity, you rush in to the nearest spider that Helena bounded passed, which just so happens to be the one that was on the ground to begin with, and slash out with your short sword a moment before H. You take aim for its legs and manage to land a critical blow on it as you manage to cut through the first four of its legs with a mighty swipe, causing the severed limbs to plop onto the ground below it as the spider screams in a strange and shrill screech of pain as a disgusting yellow-green blood oozes from the wound as it falls forward. You waste no time and immediately tilt your left hand down and grunt in exertion as you bring your dagger down and into the dire spider’s evil red eyes, driving it home as you hear cracks and suctioning noises coming from the wound. In an instant the dire spider lies dead as it’s body, or what’s left of it, goes limp and with another grunt and yet another suction of air you manage to dislodge your dagger as yellow-green blood drips from the blade. You look up just in time to see Helena yell out a thundering roar as she winds her left arm back and then quickly brings her fist down onto the dire spider’s face and eyes with a sickening crunch. Your eyes go wide in shock as the spider is driven into the ground, it’s face literally caved in from the force of the blow, and you even think you hear the stone underneath start to crack as Helena fist digs deeper into the lifeless creature – the most shocking scene, however, is when the force of the blow causes the spider’s large abdomen to burst, shooting blood and guts out behind it like a geyser.

Holy crap! you think as your lavender haired lover pulls back and shakes the gore from her hand Remind me to never get on Helena’s bad side! I think she might have cracked the stone underneath! You don’t linger on the thought, though, as you turn your attention to the other two spiders, which the closest to you seems to have come to from its blindness and is heading towards you and Helena with a total lack of self-preservation as his – or her – ally is still on the ground, writhing and blinded. You quickly turn your dagger over in a backhand hold and hold it in front of you as you bring your short sword up to your face while pointing it at the spider as it approaches as Helena quickly and carefully moves behind you and slightly to the right, though it’s a tight squeeze and you do have to shift a little in the seven by seven passage, making you almost envy the spiders given their better mobility in such a space… almost. “Two down and two to go; come and get it” you say with a glint in your eyes as the spider draws closer and, when it’s nearly upon you, something quite unexpected happens. The spider directly in front of you – the one that you slaughtered – starts to twitch and convulse rapidly and dangerously fast, and its corpse starts to sizzle as the boils and warts on the husk pop, releasing more disgusting yellow-green blood. The one that Helena destroyed does the same with what little of the body remains, and Helena voices her confusion as she says “What the fuck…? Why is it – SHIT! ARGH, COLETTE!” before she’s quickly cut off. You watch both the corpses and the spider, which is now just behind the furthest dead spider, and then all at once hell descends upon you – both corpses, for one reason or another, explode in a fiery inferno! “Hells!” you scream out as you’re blown back with a violent force and on top of Helena, sending you both tumbling to the ground. Thankfully, your ice shield held up, as did Helena’s, as it absorbed most of the impact and managed to stay up – you cough and groan as you roll over and off of your monk which, under normal circumstances, would be much more pleasant. This time, however, is not under a normal circumstance and you scramble to Helena and say loudly “Helena! Helena are you okay?!” – you sigh in relief as she groans and sits up, holding her right hand to her forehead and saying “Fucking gods… yeah, I’m fine. Your shield held up nicely – still is up too – but more importantly what in the actual fuck was that?!” You shake your head as you get onto your knees, and then your feet, sheathing your dagger and offering your hand to Helena as you say “I have no clue, but I think it might have something to do with those nasty warts and why the spiders seem to be acting so strangely”.

“Speaking of spider, looks like we still have a little problem to deal with” Helena points out as she stands up and points behind you. You look over your shoulder and see that both spiders are moving towards you, with the one that was caught in the blast currently on the ground and looking barely scratched by the fire. The other spider is clambering along the ceiling a little ways behind the other, but still at a fast rate. You and Helena both ready yourselves for another round – the spider on the ground recovers quickly and makes a mad dash for you just ahead of its kin. You ready your blades with your dagger out in front of you horizontally while your sword is closer to your face and pointed out at the spider. The spider, upon reaching you, stops abruptly and makes like it’s going to pounce on you… and instead it swipes out at you with its front left leg at your torso while thrusting its incredibly sharp right leg out at your face. You manage to dodge both attacks by the skin of your teeth as you first back step then throw your face back, narrowly avoiding being pierced through the eye by the smallest of margins. You take in a large breath of air as you stab out with your short sword, but fail to connect as the spider bats your blade away, which does leave you with an opportunity to strike out with your dagger as you deal a nasty, but not very serious, cut along the spider’s right leg which does manage to slow it down as it recoils with a hiss and it oozes that same potent and combustible yellow-green blood. You trade blows with the spider and eventually one of its attacks get through as it manages to cut along your left side, but thankfully it lacks any of the original bite it once had due to the damage you inflicted earlier to its right leg. Despite this, it still had enough force behind it to nearly shatter your shield as you feel it weakening, and you just know that you can only take one more hit to the shield before it shatters and likewise you know that damage will get through to you.

You grin wickedly as you aim to punish the offending menace – you quickly backhand your dagger and stab out at the right leg of the spider in a mock effort to damage it further and, when the spider takes the bait and recoils, you bring your short sword up above your head in a flail before making a diagonal cut down that connects with the left leg, severing it completely and making the spider pull back slightly as it hisses gutturally in agony. It quickly skitters away from you… and you let it, but not before calling out “Helena, now!” and pressing your back against the right wall to give Helena room to maneuver. “I’m on it, babe!” she retorts as she flies passed you and, before the spider can even react due to the injured and lost limbs, Helena brings both her clench fists together above her head… and then slams down with such an incredible amount of force that the spider’s eyes and head cave in before it even hits the ground, dead before it even reaches the floor – she gives the corpse a swift and powerful kick that launches the explosive corpse just in the nick of time as it explodes in a fiery blaze further down the passage. “Fuck that was satisfying” Helena says as she and you both watch the remaining dire spider approaching along the top wall – Helena readies herself as she slowly makes her way behind you again, and you duck low so as to avoid the many legs of the beast. It seems to not care, however, and instead it moves a fair distance behind Helena before climbing off the wall and onto the floor, ready to face Helena and cutting of your exit. “Pfft, what’s this fucker think he’s going to do after we wasted his buddies?” Helena scoffs at the lone spider, and you find yourself agreeing with the powerful monk, until you hear more skittering that makes your heart drop. You turn your head back to the magically lit room only to find that there are four more sickly dire spiders clinging to all sides of the passage and headed right for you. “That’s why” you say as you ready yourself against the new wave of foes “They may be reckless and suicidal, but they’re smart. I guess that one’s trying to block our escape so that his friends can join in”. “Then I guess we better end this fast. Might want to try popping up either a new ice shield on yourself or blinding them again. I don’t think you have time for both, though!” Helena yells out in a hurry just as the spider lunges at Helena and tries to bite her, but she expertly evades the attack and grabs the spider’s torso and flips it, sending it hurtling backwards only to catch itself on the walls with its legs before it slowly creeps down again.

Dammit, this is really bad! Helena’s right though; I could try using my white magic crystal again, but my shield’s pretty much toast as is. Things were going pretty good until now, but we’re not done yet! Rinsing and repeating sounds like it might work, and I know I can count on Helena to pull through, but maybe we want to try and pull back? This corridor is a good funnel… but that works both ways – we could get trapped in between them! One thing’s for sure, though; I need to change Skin-Walkers appearance to cover more skin to protect myself!
