I must say, this is probably the weirdest gift I have ever given anyone. It's a lengthy one, but I hope you all enjoy it.

As for the fight: it’s a rare occurrence, but I also did a few rolls to determine some outcomes and additional events; I think it turned out pretty damn good though. Have a wonderful time NOT pleasuring thyself sexually - for once - but instead, pleasuring thyself with copious amounts of food and spending time with those you love!

I’ll see you guys next year, or perhaps even earlier... best of wishes:
- Cev

P.S. I added a new piece of information under “Weapons”, so you guys can always have a view of what exactly is in the revolver’s chambers in between posts. I figure having excessive detail is better than assumption… so let me know what you guys think. The explanation is, of course, under “Explanations”.

Also, because I just threw it together int he last fifteen minutes:

Readers, voters, and perverts all
Did a story on the CYOA boards, did call.
A large break for months and yet they still came,
For a favorite among the readers was this "game".
A world with guns, pirates, and trains galore,
They voted to not have our heroine become a whore.
She fights and keeps going,
For no undead she'll be blowing!
Tis a naughty adventure she is in,
but again and again she triggers that firing pin.
Although, she may eventually face a situation much much greater,
where the foe wins and decides to mate 'er.
Many more traps and foes lie ahead,
It just may happen that our heroine gets taken in bed.
Whether she or the readers… or the seeders have their way,
This narrative and plot will be one most risqué.
So, early on this Christmas day,
while some in bed still sleep and lay,
Cevrik writes Jacqueline’s story…
may it be one that garners much glory.

I couldn't resist :p

You are crouched behind a bookshelf at the moment, a horde of pale ghouls taking your ally in the cruelest of fashions on the other side. She was crying out not too long ago, but now, has gone silent, whether dead or passed out… you do not know. You can still see her legs bucking upwards with each gyration from the mass of flesh, but they hang limp, no effort behind them. You count around two dozen heads, their exact number hard to determine as they shuffle about. It seems an impossible task with their numbers, even with the powerful weaponry you wield you are still limited to the thirteen shots you carry; after those are gone the odds change drastically.

Beatrice seemed so stubborn when she left you. Now look what her headstrong ways have gotten her into.

“Dammit…” you curse under your breath, wanting to pound your fist into the wood.

Your forehead rests against the bookshelf as you continue to watch the scene with one eye, red locks entering your vision. If only she had agreed to stay together then none of this would have happened. Shock and sadness mix with anger, and for a second you contemplate leaving.

She was so sure of herself… and now look at her. Even if I do save her, won’t she just be a liability? I could just leave her and forsake everything she promised… or risk my life for hers. Still, what then is any amount of gold to someone who died saving their… contract?

”So, I ask: will you assist me in this endeavor?” were her exact words and ”I’ll help”, yours. It seems like months ago that the conversation took place but you still remember it perfectly.

I have helped: more than some and far more than most! you tell yourself

This is the truth, or so you’d like to believe, but you still can’t look away from the sight. You can now see the ghoul that is taking her, the grey thing jerking back and forth, violently, the sounds of sex falling upon your ears. You continue to look, the choice still not clear in your mind.

It quickens its pace. Slaps of flesh ring out.

You wonder just how easy it would be to enter the city: whether she was exaggerating or if her words were fact.

It stops. Another takes its place.

The benefits and the dangers of each path weigh heavy in your mind; doubts, uncertainties, and regrets sitting upon the scales.

You take a deep, ragged breath and lower your eyes, finding yourself a bit flustered now.

Whether it was the scene before you, the reward that she that she had promised to pay, her grant of access to the city, or perhaps just your own inability to simply walk away and leave her to this… no one but you knows: Your reasons are your own.

You decide to help her.

~

Once you decide to help her, you look back up as you try and figure out how to deal with so many opponents. It seems hopeless at first, a monumental task that can’t possibly be achieved. As you continue to look however, you find everything becoming a bit… clearer all of a sudden, both visually and mentally. Pieces of the scene appear more striking, some fading away to reveal other details; it is almost as if you are now displaced from the scenario at hand and given an in-depth look at the pieces that comprise it:

Your breathing slows down, adopting a steady and silent pace. You remain crouched behind the cover, observing the ghouls… no, the targets, huddled together in the corner. You count twenty-five of them, two more currently occupied with a woman who seems to be passed out, her chest rising and falling, faintly and slowly. Usually, such a number would seem overwhelming, but a well of confidence comes from somewhere within you. You watch their movements: how they walk, how they carry themselves and how fast they are. Most of the targets seem be between five and six feet tall, only three of them outliers: two taller and one shorter. Eight of them are wounded in the legs, shin and knee injuries which cause them to drag the afflicted limb. Four others are disabled in their arms, the extremities hanging limply at their sides as they shuffle about. Mouths hang agape, ink-like saliva dripping from the corners of their mouths, leaving black trails down their chin. Six of them are very heavy-set, their cheeks and torsos hanging thick with fat, all of them a part of those that had leg injuries.

You look around the room now and start to become acutely aware of where the table, the bookshelves, the glasses, utensils, and chairs on the floor lay, their positions and locations constantly present in your mind. A new detail is revealed as well: a series of metal sconces, their color the same as the stone, line the room at neck level; there are twelve of them each one laden with a series of rusted metal points. The bookshelves are empty, including the cabinets. Most of the table and chairs are centralized in the middle of the room and the table cloth seems to cover most of the debris.

Certain items you haven’t thought about in a while also come to mind: The waterskin that holds the goblin alcohol, the green potion, the vial of holy water that is now empty, the wraith’s cloak, and the rifle.

These elements shift in your mind, the items in your bag melding with the environment and enemy. Eyes dart around as the plan comes together and you think of certain details you had noted earlier.

There… and then I set it.
No, that first… and then I can take of that.
Luckily they won’t see me, until…
That won’t work, but this…
And then I can use my revolver…

Thoughts dance through your mind. Strategies, tactics, elements in the environment, and the items you hold all shifting around, connecting and then disconnecting as you piece together the solution to this puzzle.

You had a plan.

Grabbing your revolver, you snap open your pouch and exchange the spent rounds. You then holster it, grabbing the rifle from your back and pulling the bolt back a bit to check the state of the round: Still loaded. That done, you now take out the waterskin, the empty vial, and unwrap the black cloak from your shoulders. You uncork the skin and hold your composure as the strong vapors of the grain alcohol waft into your nostrils. You fill the vial up three quarters of the way and then stuff the rag inside, turning the vial over and again to test it. Putting the items, along with the burning rod you had out, back into your bag and set the vial into your pouch as you make your way back to the door.

You had almost considered putting the green, “dangerous” potion you had to use, but you have a feeling it won’t work like the holy water did, your gut telling you it’s more of a poison.

You shuffle to the exit and then slowly close the doors shut, confident the ghouls won’t hear it now if they had not before. The hinges bend and creak as you push but you stay committed. Once closed, you search the doors for any way of securing them, but the handles seem to be simple pieces of iron, hammered into the wooden slab and then bent downwards. You will not be able to secure it. You turn and look and sure enough, your foes still meander about, entirely oblivious to your presence.

Now comes the tricky part…

Sticking close to the wall, you make your way back to the center of the room, this time making your way over to the shelf that contains Beatrice’s lantern. You keep watch on the mob, the horde still drawn to the corner, sating their sexual appetite apparently all that motivates them. You weave about, footfalls avoiding the pieces of wood and corpses that scatter the floor, every once in a while shooting a furtive glance towards the pale congregation, watching for any signs that your cover is blown.

So far so good…

Finally, your gloved hands grasp the metal box and you lift it up, reaching underneath for the true prize; taking hold of the cylinder attached to the bottom of the box, you give it a few twists, freeing the oil container from the rest of the lantern, a moderately sized flame burning on top. Unfortunately, it seems this is as far as you can prepare unnoticed.

It was a low screech that caught your attention, a phlegm-filled bellow that was soon echoed by others. You acted in haste now.

With a clatter, you let the bronze box fall to the ground, and set the lit cylinder back down on the bookcase as you went for the closest half of the table. With as powerful a kick you can muster, you thrust your foot out and push against the split piece of furniture, sending the piece of lumber skirting to lie next to its adjoining side. The table cloth now bunched up between the two sections, you throw a few pieces of broken chair into the mix as fast as you can before ripping the waterskin from your bag. Ripping the cork out with your teeth, you turn it over, dumping its contents on the pile. Then you wait, watching the ghouls who are now interested in you slowly make their way closer.

Five... ten. It seems quite a few of them have taken interest in you, a new potential victim for their unholy pleasures.

Fifteen… twenty… and five more. All but the two who are now taking Beatrice come for you now.

Alright… you tell yourself, before giving muttering a few words of confidence.

You wait, seeing all of them in their gruesome presence, their faces now turned to you. The same vacant eyes look at you through a milky sheen, the white orbs seemingly devoid of any detail. Black lines drip from some of their mouths, the maws opening and closing in anticipation. The most disturbing feature of all, however, were the loins of each one now plainly visible. You do not shudder as you look upon them though; even if their fleeting flaccidness and disturbing features are an unsettling sight, you stand firm, ready to face them.

They come together, their forms shoulder to shoulder as they proceed towards you, anxious to satiate their lust once more. This… is exactly what you had hoped for.

First, you unsling the rifle from your back and line up the sights near the heads where they seemed to clump together. It was an intimidating sight, seeing all of them sway back and forth as one, giant force. You still manage to hold the stock firm against your shoulder though, making sure the rifle is secure, and then place your finger on the trigger as you wait for the right moment. Heads swiveling back and forth, they stumble forward. Eyes scan for a perfect set-up; you worry about conserving your ammo and think that only such a plan with work with this weapon.

As your finger squeezes the trigger though, your fears have been lessened by two, the bullet accomplishing what you had hoped for as two of the ghouls simply drop down where they had stood. You can’t help but think about how it was quite the feat, even if your ears are still ringing from the massive crack and the soreness that burns in your shoulder. This done, you discard the rifle, tossing it against the wall and out of the way, ready for the next phase of your plan.

As they began to step close to the table, you take out the vial that you had filled with the alcohol; a single touch from the gout of flame to the rag and it ignites almost instantaneously. Now, with the husks starting to weave between the two sections of the table, you rear back and chuck the improvised incendiary into the face of the closest one.

The vial shatters, the sound quickly followed by a small burst of light as the alcohol catches. For a second you see nothing but a silhouette of head and shoulders, the pattern embellished in a cool flame. Then, a wave of heat as the fire makes contact with the floor. You raise your arms to shield your face, a curtain of blue and orange quickly ascending towards the ceiling along with them. You slowly separate your limbs to grant yourself vision and see the victims of your trap:

At least seven of the ghouls were now ablaze, their forms alight with flame. The two sections of table, and everything in between, a conflagration awash with orange and blue, a pillar of the latter enveloping the ghoul that had received the original payload.

You think back to the other passage, where you found the empty blouse, and wonder if the smoke will be an issue. Fortunately, the ceiling appears to be at a moderate level, but still: you should not tarry. You are also thankful to see the inferno isolated for the most part, the edges of the blaze ending where wood meets stone, and staying far from the one you are trying to save. The ghouls are now split, the inferno driving them against the wall as they avoid the fate of their friends.

However, as you draw your revolver to deal with them, those too that are aflame seem to be walking forwards as well. You wondered as to why they didn’t cry out, seemingly ignoring the fact that their own skin now boils away. The smell of burning meat fills your nose and your heart leaps up into your throat as you’re unsure if you have made the situation far more dangerous than it could have been. It is as though the pit was a portal to hell, the flaming ghouls now demons pouring forth from it. Sweat born from both your anxiety and the blistering warmth now flows down from your temples. Still, you lift your firearm and cock the hammer back, ready to fire at the closest threat. Your finger applies a bit of pressure to the trigger, the sights of your gun trained upon the orange tip of the lit form before you. Just before you fire however, the form crumples.

You take your focus away from the sights and notice the others following suit, some more quickly than others, all those who were caught in the initial inferno now succumbing to the devouring light. Confident and relieved that they are no longer a threat, you immediately pivot to the next-closest one and take aim, your left hand coming up to support your right. You line up the sights and pull the trigger, the head jerking back slightly as it is felled.

They come from both sides and you find yourself having to rapidly glance between them to keep from being overwhelmed. Another shot at one on your left, and then two more on the right. You don’t even register whether or not they fall before you start to take aim at the next one. The edge of your mouth curls as you continue. You cock back the hammer again and fire off another shot, the cracks straining your ears in such a space. You don’t care though, your entire focus on eliminating their ranks. The curve from earlier has now become a full grin, teeth now visible.

Bang. Your sixth shot...

You always knew that it would be tough in a time-sensitive situation but unfortunately, a single action revolver is all you have. Tinder’s lesson flashes through your mind as you lie the firearm in your palm:

"Right, now… ya can go ahead and just lay it on down like there, see? Half cock it back and use yer thumb there to turn the cylinder as ya do so, pullin’ the plunger to clear the cylinder."

Another piece of advice goes through your mind as you eject the first casing…

"However, say ya get into some sort of scuffle and ya don’t have time ta eject the whole thing; you gotta fire right now, else ya won’t get ta fire at all: In that case, ya want to eject, load, and then turn it to the next ‘un. Eject, load, click. See? Here… watch me, Miss."

It happens almost as fast as the thoughts pass through your mind, the cylinder ejecting out an empty casing as your hand comes back from your pouch with fresh ammunition. The action is one that feels natural to you, despite your limited time with the device, almost as though you have loaded this gun many times before. The casings bounce off the ground, the sound barely audible over the roar of the fire. You don’t even hear it, your concentration only split between reloading and the distance to the ghouls. Four rounds have now made it into the cylinder, but you find your time is up as you can see the form of one of the ghouls surpassing the others, his speed unprecedented. You shut the loading gate and pull the hammer back, ready to fire.

You turn towards him, aim, and squeeze the trigger… but only hear a click. At first, confusion and desperation cloud your mind. A moment of panic cripples you, but your mistake soon becomes apparent, realizing that, in your haste to fire, you didn’t advance the cylinder…

Even at having realized your mistake , you were still too late, the ghoul grasping you just as you had managed to fire again, the bullet grazing the side of his head.

His hands lock onto your wrists and split apart your grip on the revolver, your arms forced up and to each side. You try to resist but find the strength of this monster even greater than the one in the village, letting out a small cry as a few his nails bypass your vambraces and dig into your arm. You step back, trying to maintain your balance. The ghoul doesn’t stop however, as his mouth closes on yours, forcing its tongue making its way inside.

Your eyes go wide in shock and disgust, the foul flavor of its mouth now filling your own. Utter disbelief is cast over your mind, the thought of such a thing utterly mortifying. You can feel its tongue wriggling inside now, mixing its black saliva with that of your own. It tastes horrible, the taste reminding you of the train station in Novo: oily and metallic. You bite down on it but find the texture rough and sinewy; the action does little to deter its efforts, the force only seeming to secrete more of the tainted fluid from the muscle. The liquid drips out of your mouth, creating black lines similar to those of the ghouls down your chin.

You tried to turn your head away, but it simply pursued your lips, staying locked to them. You close your eyes and cry out in defiance, trying to summon every ounce of strength you have to break its hold on you. The vile bitterness that spreads from its mouth seeps even further, almost choking on the liquid as it starts to find its way down your throat. More muffled screams. You flail your arms the best you can but gain no purchase. A fleeting thought enters your mind… contemplating if the oily taste was that bad, the metallic quality almost gone. It’s… becoming a little harder to find a solution to this, and you feel unsteady; your knees start to feel weak as a dull ache blossoms in your lower abdomen and outward. You shift and lurch, even bringing your knees and shins to bear. Whether or not the ghoul noticed, he advances forward even more. The movement catches you off guard and you find yourself struggling to retain your balance; you aren’t successful.

It didn’t feel fast at all as you fell backwards, more of a gentle descent. You expected a sudden crash and the impact of the ghoul’s body on top of yours. Instead, you felt your bottom drop down and experienced a sudden moment of clarity, as though your muscles themselves were guiding you towards a solution. Your leg kicked up, heel planted in the fiend’s gut. The rest you simply happened.

The next few seconds were a rush as you executed the move: Your bottom made contact with the ground as you arched your back and titled your head forward, the ghoul caught unaware by this sudden shift in direction. It felt wrong to press your mouth further into the ghoul’s, but you eventually break the kiss and manage to tilt your head forward, leaving an inky trail streaked across your face. You held your jaw tight and placed your chin against your chest as you rolled, grabbing the forearms of the ghoul with your free hand. Then, the ghoul was above you, its body caught with your heel resting against its gut. You looked into its eyes for a moment as it passed the apex of the arch , almost thinking you saw confusion present in its gaze. Then, your leg sprang outwards, the ghoul propelled by the force and impacting with the wall behind you. Your landing wasn’t graceful either, the front of your body planting itself against the stone as you waist sails over your head and into the floor. Pain spread from your torso and your knees seized with agony from the staggering blow. Dust slowly settles from the impact, you’re the tail to your duster coming to a rest as in covers your shoulders.

Can’t lay here… have to- Aaaah…

Momentarily dazed, you clumsily manage to stand back up. You shake your head, your mind now swimming as you draw your sword. The pain numbed by the adrenaline in your system, you make your way over to the launched adversary and then deliver a quick swipe of your blade. You don’t cut as deep you had intended but the ghoul’s body slowly ceases to move nonetheless.

You shake your head as you try to rid yourself of the dizziness that remains. You have no idea how you pulled that roll off; it was almost as if your muscles acted of their own accord, your weight shifting at just the right moment. Still, the end of the maneuver could have been better, your head still swimming and breaths ragged as you are still recovering from the past couple of seconds.

Out of all those that came for you, a little over half of them now lie dead.

A little hiccup so far, but now for the rest of them…

Now situated near the far end of the room from Beatrice, you turn to face what remains of the ghouls, still a bit disoriented. You barely have time to take stock of the situation however, as one is already upon you: He lunges straight at you, arms outstretched, black teeth visible as he lets out a low growl...

Re: Amarant: Unknown Path

Choices:
Decide on a course of action.

Primary Vote:

A) Attack as well, using…
-1 Revolver
-2 Shortsword
-3 Other
B) Dodge or attempt to move out of the way before countering with
-1 Revolver
-2 Shortsword
-3 Other
C) Flee.

X) Other

Secondary Vote: If still fighting…

General Strategy until next choice. i.e. Cautious, aggressive, hit-and-run, things to consider and watch out for.

X) Other

Z) Minor Action. Available

---

Minor Actions Explanation:
Minor Actions are small actions you may do in addition to your Primary Vote (A, B, C, etc.). They will usually just provide you with additional information or perhaps, in rare circumstances, an item. If it would cause an encounter or runs the risk of causing general havoc then it's best to put it as an additional detail under primary vote.

Examples are asking someone a simple question, inspecting an object or feature in the environment, checking on or using an item in your bag, or changing some feature on your person. (i.e. Putting your hair into ponytail - See: Sections explained > Appearance)

They may help you, but please, try not to abuse the system. Trying to examine a couple objects in detail may be fine, but picking every item off the shelf in a store can get a bit... tedious.
And as always: I retain the right to reject them however much it may pain me to do so...

Cylinder: (Chamber aligned with barrel){Next shot once hammer is cocked}>Remaining chambers>
Sp = Spent casing. L = Loaded/Live round. E = Empty.
So, “ Rotation: (Sp){L} >L,L,E,E ” Means that you have a casing now lined up with the barrel, the next shot will be live once you pull the hammer, and then you have two more rounds before you’re empty.

Apparel: Clothes that are currently being worn. Any damage will be detailed as well. Clothing not being worn will be held in your inventory. A “???” symbol denotes the knowledge of it being worn, but no specific details are known.

Abilities/Effects: Special abilities possessed by the character. Some may be directly linked with items/pieces of clothing. Also lists passive effects present upon the character, including passive skills and negative conditions.

Physical Appearance: A basic overview of the physical features of your character.
Some aspects may be altered via a minor action if necessary requirements are met (Tying hair up into a ponytail), or against the character’s will depending on the nature of the alteration.

Re: Amarant: Unknown Path

Man, that rope we had sure would have been handy...

Anyway, B2, then use the revolver on the next 3(?) closest ghouls. Look for an opening, then start making our way towards Beatrice, ready to slice at everything that gets in our way.

Re: Amarant: Unknown Path

A combination of B1 and B2 dual-wielding sword and gun - Try to take out the one nearest with the short sword with a pierce to the brain, but failing that hopefully the ghoul gets lodged on the end of the blade for Jacqueline to finish it off with a close range gunshot to the head. After that use the gun to take out the next nearest two ghouls before rushing towards and diving through the fire along the edges so as not to get burnt too badly. Hopefully it won't light her on fire and will give her enough time to make her way towards the other revolver in the room, at which point she reloads her current revolver with the remaining two rounds, picks up the second revolver (again, hopefully there's some ammo in it), and proceeds to unload both cylinders of their ammo. At that point take out sword and dagger and aggressively, yet cautiously, fend off the remaining ghouls.

Re: Amarant: Unknown Path

Results:

Bonjour! I have returned from my holiday vacation! A much needed sojourn to cool down and also reflect on the story, the results of which I am very happy with.

Anyway, B1/2 it is! Given the general idea of all of your directions: Dodge, hack & slash, shoot if necessary, and then start making our way over to Beatrice while using three more shots to clear a path. Once over on the other side of the fire, we’ll see if Beatrice’s revolver has any ammo and then unload what we have, preparing to fight with sword and dagger afterwards.

*ahem* … On we go!

Your head feels as though it isn’t atop your shoulders and your muscles strain against your actions, but you manage to force your body to the side. The ghoul, a shrill battle-cry emanating from the fiend, sends its grasp towards you as you fling you dive backward. You dodge out of the way in time to avoid the brunt of its attack but its grasp still manages to catch a few strings of your vest. You are almost pulled off your feet but the strings snap at the force. The ghoul tumbles forward and you do not hesitate to strike at its exposed flank. You bring your steel to bare and strike at the neck. Metal meets flesh, but you miss your mark.

As the ghoul stumbled forward and shifted mid-fall, its shoulder came up and took the blow that was meant for its neck. It was a large gouge, but the flesh beneath a disturbing black instead of the red muscles you had expected – it seems that whatever affects these creatures goes all the way to the core of their being.

Frantic and furious, the ghoul flails about to right itself, rending the air with its fetid hands in a frenzy. With it riled to such a point you feel wary of attempting to finish it with your blade again, especially when there are still others: cocking back the hammer, you plant your boot on the creature’s lower torso and fire a single shot to put it down. The arms stay frozen in the air for a bit before finally falling down onto the stone floor. Its eyes unmoving and limbs stationary, you are content that it is truly dead and turn to see what remains of the undead force:

You turn around and find yourself fortunate that none are directly on top of you yet. It seems the eight which you had noted earlier as having leg injuries are now staggering towards you at a leisurely pace. Even so, the majority of them are huge, their bodies and faces bloated and distended with layers of fat. You’re sure their weight contributes to how slow they are, but are still unsure as to just what they may still be capable of.

With only two paths on either side of the room allowing safe passage past the fire, the abominations have been funneled through so that five are on the right side of the room and three are on the left. You know you have to make it over to Beatrice and see what kind of condition she’s in and decide to take the path of least resistance. Also, if you can recover her weapon you’ll be able to use what ammunition might remain.

You reload your weapon, also taking the time to draw them further towards this end of room, buying you more time on the opposite side. Your revolver now loaded with your remaining four shots, you take aim and begin to fire.

With no immediate pressure, you manage to land perfect shots on the three who block the left side, each one crumpling in place as you fired clean shots at their domes – an amazing feat considering you’re still a bit dizzy. With those three now gone, all that remains are five of the slow and heavy variety. Waiting a few more seconds for them to stumble further towards this end, you set yourself up to dash past them. You get an even more gruesome view of them now: Black sores and gashes litter their bodies, the same black liquid you ingested earlier leaking from them. You shudder at the sight, but shake it off as you realize you have no time left, launching yourself forward.

You skirt the stone wall, making sure to avoid the bookshelf as well as the corpses that lie all across the room now. A hint of their corrupted flesh makes its way to your nostrils but is quickly replaced by that of smoke; the fire continues to roar as you pass and you wince at the intense heat. As you run you notice your vest has come loose, the broken strings from earlier leaving it quite loose around your torso. You put it out of mind for now, focusing on the more immediate task.

You waste no time making it over to Beatrice, only sparing a quick glance to the other side to see where the ghouls are: for now, they seem to have simply turned and started making their way back, two of them now headed for the path you just took.

Two ghouls are still having their way with the artificer, each thrusting into both pairs of her lips. They seem to be unaware of you at the moment, too engaged with their current activity. You approach them, finding that your footfalls now resound with the smacking of a wet floor. You ignore it and continue to rush towards them, your knuckles turning white from the force with which you grasp your blade. The two ghouls turn to you at the last second, granting you a view of the pathetic look on their faces as your blade connects. The sickening crunch of metal breaking bone is pleasing to your ears, their faces now a bloody, black mess of teeth, cartilage, and shattered bone. You deliver one last kick to each one to separate them from your companion, their genitals dislodging from her with a thick strand of white.

You kneel down beside Beatrice, not caring for the fact that your skirt and duster are now lying in the filth and examine her state. As you see her unconscious form, you can’t help but feel sick to your stomach, the secretions and fluids of her assailants splattered all across her body, in her hair, and what little remains of her clothes. Other than the ordeal she went through earlier, she seems fine, her chest rising and falling with steady breaths and only a few visible cuts and gashes across her limbs and torso. You want to simply pick her up and run, but you know that won’t work while she’s unconscious. No, you have to find that revolver.

One shot left… you think to yourself, hoping to add to your ammunition count with your companion’s firearm.

Your eyes land upon the gun and you immediately dive over towards it. It is lying next to her bag, the flap open. Once you grab it you waste no time in popping out the cylinder However, a cold pit forms in your stomach as you see all the casings are empty, all the rounds already having been fired – It seems your situation has become a little bit more desperate, and with this side offering a little less room to maneuver, you better choose your next course of action quickly. Fortunately, it seems your sense of balance is back, but your head still feels a bit odd. You don't know what it is but a tingling feeling has started between your legs. You put it from mind and take stock of the current situation:

At the moment, five of the ghouls remain, two coming from the passage that is now on your right and three from the closer left path. They are slow, but massive in size, their grotesque shapes shifting from side to side as they meander towards you. Your breathing is a little ragged, from both the fight and the temperature of the still-warming room. You brush a drop of swear off of your brow and try to come up with the next phase of your plan. You can think of a couple options right away, but you simply don’t know the best option is…

You quickly think about your decision…

Minor Actions Explanation:
Minor Actions are small actions you may do in addition to your Primary Vote (A, B, C, etc.). They will usually just provide you with additional information or perhaps, in rare circumstances, an item. If it would cause an encounter or runs the risk of causing general havoc then it's best to put it as an additional detail under primary vote.

Examples are asking someone a simple question, inspecting an object or feature in the environment, checking on or using an item in your bag, or changing some feature on your person. (i.e. Putting your hair into ponytail - See: Sections explained > Appearance)

Z: shoot the closest one, then force Beatrice to drink the healing potion. Switch to two blades and go on the defensive. Maybe toss the black potion at them for good measure.

B, shoot one of the ghouls coming from the right, then kill the other with yon sword. Then turn around, shoot two of the ones coming in behind, and then kill the last with yon sword. It's gonna leave us really low on ammo, but it's the best we can do unless we want to try dancing around to save a couple bullets.

Giving Beatrice the potion isn't going to get her up in time to prevent us from getting raped, and might not work period given the nature of what happened to her. Ye ghoul spit seems like it's poisonous, and healing potions don't seem likely to do anything about poison.

I considered that, too. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, though. And we just need her to be able to get out of this room by herself (more or less) before the fire gets out of hand.

On a slightly unrelated note, I thought we only had one bullet left?

Yes, sorry about that. It was most likely due to my oversight in forgetting to change the number of shots in the stats panel. I have since messaged Tass and edited the section to reflect the correct number of rounds. I apologize for the inconvenience and misinformation.

Re: Amarant: Unknown Path

Good job Cevrik :p

Though, to be fair I could have read the fluff more thoroughly. Anyway...

B, shoot one of the ghouls coming from the right, then kill the other with yon sword. Then holster the revolver and draw the dagger to try and fight the three ghouls coming from the other direction. Go for one at a time, dancing back and turning to run when necessary. My opinion on using the potions has not changed.

Re: Amarant: Unknown Path

Z Give Beatrice some of the potion before taking off the duster and...

B Throw it at the foremost ghoul's face that is a part of a pair (the two that are together). Use the last shot of the revolver to take down the other one of the two then pull out the 9 inch bladed dagger and charge the blinded ghoul, jumping on it with all Jacqueline's body weight as she plants the blades into the creature's skull and toppling it back. Pick up whatever remains of the duster and douse it along the edges of the fire, catching it ablaze before tossing it into the next nearest ghoul. At that point if everything goes off without a hitch then aim for the legs and feet of the remaining ghouls to throw them off balance before delivering the finishing blows.

Re: Amarant: Unknown Path

Results::

Sorry for the delay… would have had it up on Friday but came down with a bit of a cold

Combination of Tass’s, Gear’s and Tomaito’s:

Plan of action:
- Try to make Beatrice drink half of the Health Potion (Sorry, two to one on this ‘un).
- Use duster to blind one of the pair of ghouls.
- Shoot the other.
- Stab the remaining ghoul of the pair.
- Attempt to light the duster on fire and throw it at the other ghouls as you engage them, aiming for the legs/feet.

You fire your last shot at the closest ghoul, dropping the hulking mass to the ground. You need as much time as possible, especially if you’re to bring Beatrice back from consciousness.

The ghoul dealt with, you holster your firearm and turn back to Beatrice, retrieving the health potion you got from Scarper: She hasn’t been awoken by the gunshots and you can’t help but have the feeling that the wooziness you still feel is wholeheartedly due to the tumble you took. You don’t know if it’ll help or not, but you hope that a bit of the potion will be enough to counteract at least a portion of whatever ails her.

You lift her head up and try your best to make her drink it. A few drops miss the mark, sliding down her face and eventually dripping down to mix with the white and black on the floor. Miraculously, she doesn’t seem to be choking on it but actually drinking the liquid. She seems unconscious but is still able to drink… perhaps she’s only unable to respond or awake and unaware of her surroundings? You don’t question it further and continue to tip the vial until half of the liquid has disappeared. You replace the cork once done and stow the vial, now turning back towards the last ghoul of the pair.

This one was even bigger and uglier than the last one. You stood there with sword in hand but did not charge the foe, your lack of ammunition driving you to more creative means. You temporarily set down your sword and remove your duster, unsure whether this is truly a bout of creativity or desperation – the lines seem to blur when outnumbered. Sword back in hand you hesitantly approach the enemy, holding the article of clothing at the ready.

A massive wall of flesh is in front of you, trails of black falling down pale, fetid skin. Its figure is made all the more intimidating by the shadow cast over its face from the fire. It lets out a guttural growl of spittle and black foam just before doubling its efforts to grab you, arms flailing in front of it. The creature almost upon you, you throw your duster on top of it. It flies up into the air for a bit until the form of the ghoul runs forward to meet it, the material landing on its head.

Drawing the dagger from your side, you take a deep breath and let it out before flinging yourself into the air; A risky move to be sure, but not anymore than trying to combat it while it can still see. You grasp your blades tightly, aiming the best you can for what you think is the head. You come down, your blades piercing the veil of your duster and sinking into the flesh beneath. The ghoul begins to stagger a bit from side to side worryingly, threatening to cast both of you into the fire. You hold on, trying to drag the foe to the ground. Its legs hold it up for a bit but eventually buckle. The hulking mass slumps to the floor with you landing alongside it. You quickly right yourself, yanking the blades from the body. Black stains blossom on the duster and pool in the fuller of your blade.

You waste no time and immediately rip the duster off the fallen foe, casting the tail end into the flames. Your mind goes to the same question from earlier: “is this creativity or desperation?”. You continue to put the question from mind as your eyes shift back and forth between the ghouls and your duster. They are but a dozen feet away now, each more gruesome than the last. You mumble under your breath, urging more of the garment to catch before they make it to you. Flames lap up the clothing and more of the linen garb starts to char.

A bit more…

It was a race between the wounded ghouls and the flames climbing your duster; you’re not sure which will win, but it won’t be by much. The fire continues to ascend up the cloth, the patches of ghoul’s blood sizzling as they are engulfed in heat. You notice now how vulnerable you feel without your duster; it’s been with you ever since the beginning and now, with only a skirt, shirt, and a vest that’s now hanging open, you feel quite exposed. Another glance and the ghoul’s only a few feet away now. You have no choice: You yank the duster from the inferno and fling it on the nearest ghoul.

It doesn’t have to travel far, your target so close that you can almost feel the cinders wafting off of it as it lands. The moment it does, you rush forward and to the right, skirting the edge of the pyre. You took note of their wounded legs earlier and think you can use that weakness to their advantage, aiming for them with both of you blades. You cut into the flesh around its knee, hoping to cripple it even further. Your sword cuts deep, but you aren’t sure your dagger did much damage. Either way, you continue on to the next foe.

The passage between the wall and the fire afforded little room to maneuver, forcing them to come at you single file. You leave the growling and grunting behind you as you now face the second of the trio. As with the first, you try to dodge past it and keep on the move as you cut away at the legs. A swipe comes from the second overweight assailant, but you dodge the clumsy blow, swerving to its left. You repeat the process and, this time, adjust your attack. Steel meets flesh and you can feel the tension as you pass by. At first there is resistance, followed by a sensation of relief as you blade cuts completely through. Two sets of growls now ring out in the chambers, followed quickly by the war-cry of the third. You stay light on your feet, preparing to dodge the inevitable blow. This one is a bit faster but you still manage to duck the strike as it flings its entire arm at you. You go for its open side and prepare to cleave your way forward for a third time. This time however, the next part of the ghoul’s barrage was much faster than you had anticipated.

It was as if your vision had been ripped aside. Pain flourished from the right side of your head as you went sprawling to the left. You tried to catch yourself but end up crashing into the wall, your head connecting with the stone below one of the iron sconces. Your sword falls from your hand and your whole head seems to swell with agony. You can’t help but keep your eyes shut, your hands going up to clutch your throbbing cranium. You know you can’t sit here recovering and strain yourself to stand and fend off the inevitable follow-up. The throbbing gets worse but you force yourself to stand, your teeth clenched and bared as your legs extend. You open your eyes and find your vision blurred but quickly recovering. Turning to face your foe, you barely have enough time to recognize him changing through the haze of pain.

You raise your arms up in some manner of defense but find yourself still too weak from the blow. A stab from your dagger to the creature’s throat manages to draw thick, black blood but it doesn’t seem to mind. Your assailant grabs your arms just like the other and forces them towards the wall, blade clattering against the piece of iron to your left. It lunges forward, trying to close the distance with its body. As a last ditch effort, you raise your leg up and plant a boot on the flab of its stomach to stay its advance. Your eyes are slits as you squint, grimacing against the pain and assault. The liquid continues to poor down the wound in its neck and coat the front of the abomination as well as your boot. It drives forward with all of its weight, more so leaning than pushing, its legs extended out behind it.

The strength in your leg is waning and you’re not sure if you can successfully push this monster off of you. You need to do something quickly…

Use your free leg to try and kick the ghoul's feet out from under him. Or break a kneecap. This should work since it's the ghoul forcing you against the wall that is holding you up.

Alright Deadline time: First of either a 24-hour period and then a coin toss, or a third entry supporting either Tass or Tomaito.

EDIT: Right, settled then: I'll have the next entry up by Thursday afternoon, if not by dawn.

This seems like a good course of action. Buckle the knees with a nice kick then take that dagger and drive it into the ghoul's temple. There's still two(?) more to deal with after that so grab some of the shards of metal (caltrops) and fling them into the eyes of one of the ghouls, hopefully blinding it and giving Jacqueline enough time to grab her short sword and resuming the fight.

Re: Amarant: Unknown Path

You almost retch from the stench pouring from the hideous creature, its breaths irregular as it exerts itself to get at you. You know very well what could happen should it close the distance and your mind is in a flurry to figure out a solution with your limbs tied up as they are; both of your wrists cry out as the ghoul pins them to the wall and your leg aches at the constant pressure. Your knee, now almost pushed to your chest, is now planted against that of your assailant. Black blood drips down, coating your leg in the vile liquid.

You know you don’t have much time and figure that you will have to make a gamble: You know the ghoul’s legs are weak and with how it’s positioned it seems as though the fiend itself has you pinned by your wrists. You glance down and see the sorry state of its legs –knotted twigs compared to its immense upper body.

With no time to prepare you simply trust that it’ll turn out right and hope the gamble will pay off: You lift your leg and pain immediately sinks into your wrists, the vambraces, fortunately, protecting you from most of the damage. You do not fall, but instead, your leg chambers in preparation for the thrust. A split-second later, your boot launches forward, striking the front of the ghoul’s knee dead-on. You hear a crack as you hit, the frail bones buckling under the pressure.

The ghoul lets out a cry of surprise and the pressure on your wrists disintegrates. You let out a yelp as you plummet to the ground, your bottom impacting with the hard stone. The ghoul, unable to hold itself up, topples forward, its rigid member rapidly falling towards you. You barely have time to notice as you raise your dagger to fend it off. The body does not fall upon you however, the grotesque genitalia stopping a few inches from you face. You’re about to look up but are met with a deluge of the black liquid falling upon your head. You sputter and spit out the foul stuff and slide out from under the torrent. Luckily none got in your eyes and, once you’ve wiped away the majority of the intoxicant, you finally look up to see what happened.

It let out a few moans as it hung there, the ink that runs through it dripping down its torso onto the floor. The ghoul’s feet weren’t planted on the ground, rather, the tops them lay idly in the fresh pool of blood as its body seemed to be limply leaning against the wall. The object holding it up seemed to be a piece of black iron, a sconce to be precise: it seems to now be nestled underneath the jaw of the ghoul, caught in the wound you opened earlier with your dagger. You can see spikes lining its edge, lengthy skewers that now impale the head of the dying ghoul – although, from what you have seen, it may still yet be a while before it dies.

You can look back down again, at the horrible sight that is its nether-region and notice the once hard prick is now slowly going limp. Its arms also slowly grasp at the wall, clawing the stone for any way to save itself, or perhaps, searching blindly for you still. For some reason, you can’t help but get a small laugh from the entire scene, of your opponent left so disabled and helpless.

Your amusement is interrupted however, as you feel a hand on your arm. You turn to your right and see one of the oversize ghouls lying on its stomach, one arm fastened to your arm and the other reaching out towards your other. You let out a startled cry and drive the dagger you still hold in your left hand straight at its face. The point of the blade pierces its eye, a gory mess of white, red, and black. The face of the beast ceases to change, its features now frozen – It is now dead. You’re almost as shocked as you were when you first saw it, your tense laughter starting up again, surprised at how easy that was compared to what you had just been through.

You stand up, cautiously, viewing the scene: Corpses… corpses everywhere. Over thirty bodies lie in this room. The stench, only now just hitting you as your adrenaline subsides, was of death, blood, charred flesh, sex… and a hint of gunpowder. The bodies are scattered about, each one felled by gun, sword, or fire. Charred remains are interspersed with the others, one of which being the one to catch your flaming duster, the piece of clothing completely destroyed now. The pyre in the middle of the room is dying down now, its fuel consumed. A mighty battlefield, indeed, but you can’t help but wonder how it could have gone differently... what may have happened had you decided to do something different or if you did not have as much ammunition as you did. Still, here and now you stood… victorious against superior odds.

2 Perks regained. 1 Perk Upgraded.

You recover for a few more seconds, getting rid of as much of the black sludge in your hair as you can, before collecting your sword and making your way over to Beatrice.

She doesn’t seem to be fully awake, but she is moving. It’s painful to see her as she is, now the room isn’t filled with foes, as you can now see the full extent of the scene that was her rape: White and black streams and splotches cover almost every inch of her and most of her clothes seem to be ripped off or irreparably damaged. A hole has been ripped open in her pants allowing them access to her lower region and the same can be said for her chest, a massive section of her shirt now lying in rags strewn across the floor. Her vest and one of her spaulders has been ripped off, but besides that it seems the ghouls were only interested in removing the pieces that got in their way. Curiously enough, you do not see the necklace you feared she would be wearing.

Her backpack lies a few feet away, as you saw before. You reach over for her bag, dragging it next to her and notice that her eyes are now slowly opening,

“Beatrice!” You call out to her.

She barely seems to register your voice, her eyes slowly rolling towards you.

“… Ja- Jacqueline...?” She mumbles, barely audible.

“Yes! It’s me! I’m here!” You try and comfort her, lifting her head up a bit. “Are you- can you stand?” you ask, anxious to leave this place.

She doesn’t respond, simply trying her best to sit up. She groans as she does so but eventually makes it. She holds a hand to her head, apparently still quite drowsy. She holds it there for a bit, simply recovering, before removing it. She takes on a confused expression as trails of white form between her head and her hand. She stares at her palm silently for a while. A few seconds pass by… and then half a minute; she seems lost in thought as her eyes flicker about, looking down at herself. You’re about to try and get her attention again, but still finally speaks:

“By all the knowledge…” she says with a hiss, clutching her sides, “fucking ghouls…” She seems more pissed than shocked or distraught.

She then wiped the filth on what’s left of her pants and tries her best to clear away the rest of the slime from her face and chest. You’re surprised she’s as… stable as she is; A situation like this and you would have- you cut the thought from your mind.

RETCON:

While Beatrice cleans herself off the best she can, you take the time to do the same, as well as refasten your clothes: The strings to your vest are now half the length they were before and you find you can only cinch it up halfway. You do the best you can and take the time to make sure the rest of your equipment is secured as well, tightening your holster, belt, scabbards, and boots. You go over your stockings, a frown crossing your face as you see the pitiful sight they’re in; large and small holes litter the thin weave from boots ankle to waist and ghoul’s blood covers your entire right leg, black smears staining both the stocking and your skin. You skirt is fine, save for a few spots, but your shirt isn’t – your left breast almost exposed from a large tear and the area around your collar soaked from the deluge our earlier leaves it in a sorry state.

As you check your shirt, examining the area around your neck, you are reminded of the necklace you gave to Beatrice earlier. You had almost forgotten about it and decided that it might be a good idea to re-secure it. The sealing wax you acquired earlier comes to mind and might enable you to keep it locked away until the two of you finally make it to the guild.

“Beatrice…” you say to her, cautiously, still unaware of her mental state, “The necklace I gave you earlier… where is it?”

She scrapes another bit of the slime from her arm and then simply states:

“It’s in my bag…”

Beatrice then stops suddenly, and begins to look around frantically, groaning with pain. Her eyes land on her pack and she immediately snatches it up to look inside. Her eyes and body relax upon seeing inside and lets out a sigh of relief. She closes her eyes and smiles, turning to you after a couple of seconds.

“Yeah… it’s in the bag. Just make sure not to ruin that scroll.

She then hands you the bag and

In the bag? you think to yourself, confused; you had thought she might have succumbed to whatever curse it had on it. Apparently, this was not the case. You look inside and, sure enough, there sits the sparking treasure, unchanged from its latest form. Your headache gets a little worse as you lay eyes upon it, but you won’t be enticed by its magic again and quickly divert your eyes from the bauble. You noticed that there was also a scroll lying beside it, probably the one Beatrice referred to.

You open up your bag and retrieve the shirt it was originally kept in – a bit torn, but it should still hold the necklace with a little help. You lay it out on the floor and then open up a pouch on your belt, producing the vial of sealing wax, the thin, orange liquid sloshing about. You’re not exactly sure if there’s any trick to this, but prepare yourself to retrieve the amulet nonetheless. A few deep breaths, and a tight grip on the bag and before you know it you’re already grasping the jewel to place it the shirt.

A whimsical sense travels up your arm and you can feel a few notes plucked in your mind and your spine reverberates with their sound. Warmth spreads from head to toe, and you were no longer inside the catacombs, but a large room, the ceiling as tall as the room was large. Figures, their features unclear, fade in and out, some much shorter than others. Some are alone while others are in pairs, circling each other in a synchronous fashion. The music grows stronger and you soon realize that they’re actually dancing to it. One of the faded beings comes closer and you can see an elf, dressed in a colorful suit: he stands tall, an air of nobility surrounding him. He walks by, either ignoring you or unaware of your presence.

Another figure comes closer, this one much shorter than the last: He wears a circlet atop his head and has a long beard that almost touches the floor. It is adorned with gemstones and slivers of precious metal, each glimmering in the light as he waddles by. He doesn’t acknowledge you directly, but instead, waves his hands in the air as though greeting all the other specters around him. You can’t see his face, and eventually, he turns into another grey shape as he walks away. You’re about to follow after him, but you feel something on your shoulder followed by a feminine voice.

“Tessa!” it calls out.

You turn around to see who called out but are plunged into darkness again.

“Jacqueline!”

The sight of a glove on top a white bundle fills your vision. Your vision seems a bit blurred, but you blink a few times and discover it is indeed your own hand. You look up and discover you’re back in the room with Beatrice. She still sits there, now staring at you.

“Good, thought I’d lost you there. You have a habit of doing that…”

That vision… You’re unsure as to what it was; besides the faded figures, it seems as though you were there. Was it a vision? Or something more? You can’t help but think

“Hey! Snap to!”

You don’t look away, and simply hold up your hand as to say “I’m fine”. She turns away and goes back to her task.

Squeezing the bundle, you find the solid form of the medallion inside. Whatever that vision was, you can at least secure this medallion now. You uncork the bottle of sealing wax and pour it atop the shirt. The orange liquid flows out and seeps into the fabric, the white cloth turning orange. The splotches of blood mix with it as well, the two becoming hard to tell apart. You empty the contents of the vial, making sure the parcel is completely soaked… and then wait.

Half a minute goes by and you find the orange-strained bundle turning a dark maroon. You watch the color shift, and when it seems the color will no longer change, you reach out to touch it. It definitely feels like wax, the entire bundle now a singular, solid mass. You also note a weak heat emanating from the object, the warmth continuing to fade as you hold it. You pick it up and find it weighs little more than before. The medallion now sealed away, you set it into your bag and turn back to Beatrice.

“Beatrice, I found the shirt we put the medallion in… When I did I had thought that you would have-“

“That I what?” she cuts you off. “You think me some half-wit initiate? – I’ve dealt with my fair share of artifacts, plenty of them cursed.”

Your eyes narrow, thinking she would show a bit more gratitude after recent events.

“Well, either way, I’ve dealt with it – I trust your guild can break a bit of this sealing wax?”

“Of course!” she replies, “Just don’t lose it – we still have no idea as to just how powerful it is, nor its original purpose.”

You nod, stand up and go to turn around, but Beatrice calls you again.

“Jacqueline…”

You turn your gaze back towards her.

“… Thank you…”

You nod again and then go about double checking your inventory and also retrieving the rifle from its place on the ground

Eventually, Beatrice speaks again.

“Alright… that’s probably all I’ll be able to get done here. Let’s get out of this hellhole first, I’m anxious to get home.…”

You would have thought her fine at this point, had she not tried to stand.

Once she put weight on her foot she crumpled to the floor, barely managing to catch herself. She coughs, drops of some sort of black tar dripping down from her lips. She wipes it away as you go to help her.

“Gah- damn it all!” she curses.

“Are you alright? … Here, let me.”

“I’m fine, I got- ah!”

You ignore her and crouch down and take her arm.

“… Thanks… again… but I don’t think I’ll be much help for a while; I feel like I’ve… ugh, drank too much.”

You know exactly what she drank too much and you shudder knowing exactly what it was. She waves you off at first, asking you to retrieve her firearms. Once done, you grab her arm again and put it over your shoulders. She grabs her pick off the ground and holds it in her free hand, apparently willing to fight, but probably unable to really do much. You draw your own weapon, wielding your sword in the arm between the two of you, your left clutching hers as you keep her upright. At the moment, the two of you are side-by-side, you on the left and Beatrice on the right.

You’re just about to help her stand and you think of how you want to try and escape this place.

Weapons: Objects that may be used to inflict harm on opponents. Note, that these are your primary means of damaging an enemy in combat but you may use other items you possess or objects in the environment in creative ways. This includes your bare hands and feet.
To display the status of the cylinder in the revolver, I have added a simple set of letters to let you guys know exactly what the state of it is between posts. It currently goes:

Cylinder: (Chamber aligned with barrel){Next shot once hammer is cocked}>Remaining chambers>
Sp = Spent casing. L = Loaded/Live round. E = Empty.

Re: Amarant: Unknown Path

Find that bloody necklace, get it wrapped up in the blouse again; use the sealing wax to close it off a bit more permanently this time. If Beatrice is actually wearing it, hopefully we can convince her to give it up without too much of an argument. I'm assuming there's nothing present that can actually help us clean up.

Spend a few minutes re--stowing and reseating our gear. Then B - hopefully we can get out of here without any more fighting, since we're flat out of ammunition.
