Been re-reading Earth's children a lot lately and i had an idea for a freeform RP taking place back in the stone age. You get to be Cro-Magnon, modern human.

You can pick a class like Hunter, Shaman, Beadmaker, any sort of job that someone would have back then. And our Tribe, Clan, Cave, whatever has to carve out our own niche and stuff.

This may be a weird question, but how strict will the freeform thing be with how our characters talk and act and look?

Not really strict at all. I mean, you'll try an keep it as period as possible, no mentioning things that didn't exist... but that's about it. "inventing" something can be done, or discovering something accidentally.

I think I'll put it after people started domesticating horses and wolves for companions and work animals.

As far as looks... well you're cro-magnon. Modern man. You could look however you want, really.

Did that answer your question?

Mostly. So basically, I could still play a ditzy valley girl talking barbarian so long as I keep the setting in mind and don't mention cars or use phrases that don't make sense and whatnot?

Yes, I like doing dumb stuff like that and trying to make it work.

Well... I suppose. You would be quite useless and I couldn't see why a group of travelers would take you along to start a new Clan if you insisted on being such.

I guess just keep it reasonable.

Would we be interacting with any other races of man? Neanderthal? Aborigine? Etc?

Re: Paleolithic RP, Interested?

Aborigine is just a term used to describe a native to the land if I'm not mistaken.

As for Neanderthals... I'm not sure yet. It's likely that they may be encountered , but prehistoric Eurasia is HUGE and there aren't a lot of people. Groups have to be self sufficient and the likelihood of coming into contact with people is rare.

Though i could probably pull something out of my ass at some point.

Doesn't really sound like my thing, but I found this, and thought it might be of interest.

Hopefully it doesn't get mad at me for hotlinking

Would it be real worldish, where the dinosaurs are long gone? Or could we play in a more overlapping timelines world, like a land of the lost type scenario? With dinosaurs still around to be contended with?

Re: Paleolithic RP, Interested?

I was wanting to go with more real worldish with the idea that the shamans do have real spiritual power. They tend not to use it very often, relying on knowledge and their status to overcome obstacles.

They can, for instance, travel to the "spirit world" to help a lost soul get to the other side, or receive divine messages from their mother goddess. They also intercede with the world of spirits to aid the Healer in his/her work.
