Re: Xenotake (Vosmug game)

I beat the game. It's worth the seven dollars (like it's been said DL charges more for less), however....

I feel that we should have a few more sex scenes for the wait. To hell with the price, the time this game took to finish alone is almost disappointing.
Look at the quality of the artwork/animations; then take into account the coding (which at this point is nearly flawless, I bugged the hell out of that game, if anyone can find any bugs besides two that were unfixable and don't affect gameplay in any way (they're extremely minor nitpicks), i'd be very impressed), and the storyline segments, and etc. etc...

...and then remember this was all done by *one person*.

I've done games that have a tenth the content this one does with a team of 5+ people and it's taken us a month, so I figure a year for a game done solely by one person is pretty believable.

I AM taking that into account. I'm also taking into account that this game has been in the works for over a year. I'm not saying he did a bad job. I just wish that we had more given the wait. Hell I'd gladly pay for more of this guy's work if it meant I wouldn't have to wait until next year.

In any case I finished this game in about an hours time. I just wanted more scenes to make it worth the cost of time - not so much the cost of money.

I'm kinda wondering for everyone finishing the game in an hour or so; are you rushing through the storyline sequences, or reading everything?

And understood, just wanted to point out the length of time and such. Stuff like bugs and so forth eat up time too, especially with a game like this.

Re: Xenotake (Vosmug game)

Just beat the game. Opinion time:

The good
- Great sprites and animations
- Even better CGs in the outro
- Cool grab mechanic (color of the bar indicates what will happen)
- Animation viewer in the extras screen

The bad
- No progression: I want to get better at my games over time, and the game to become harder. Combat mechanics are too simple for that, for the most part.
- With the automatic reload, basic ammo becomes a mostly irrelevant pickup
- Armor on is basically easy mode, but without armor you can't dash, so you run around with armor on anyway
- Give me a way to turn off slow text. Buttons are "skip to next sentence" or "skip cutscene", if I actually want to read the dialog it's frustrating reading at 1/2 speed.

The ugly
- Why does this take so much memory? Does it just pre-load every enemy and every level before startup? Does gamemaker not allow loading screens?
- The only "skill" you really learn is how many hits each enemy takes, not very deep gameplay
- The Robot parts seemed odd, for an H-game... If I want to play a bullet hell, I'll play a bullet hell.
- Second part of the game felt like Cutscene Simulator 2000 at times, spent more time watching story than actually playing.

I seem to be missing something I can not find the girls armor I seem to reach a dead end with a green eye like thing but no way past it with the flying robot droid.

You might be missing a doorway - in some environments, they take some spotting.

That's one thing I miss for this game: A manual.
Green eyes are barriers. In another room there's a similar black eye,
which you need to shoot to make the green eye disappear.

This isn't a demo; it's part of the game you need to download to test that the game works on your computer at all.

Just beat the game. Opinion time:

Just wanted to comment on some of this;

-I'm not sure about the "so much memory" thing; I was able to go into the Alien Prison and spawn around 1,000+ enemies while rendering videos, streaming video, uploading videos, compressing videos, with 50+ tabs open in two browsers, and Skype, without any FPS drop. (Running 8gb ram, 3ghz i7) Might just be pretty old computer, I'm guessing.

-While I agree the gameplay isn't that deep, I challenge you to find more than 5 games on DLSite with gameplay that ISN'T "how many hits each enemy takes" or something else as simplistic. Most of this game is about the storyline/hentai.

-If you don't want to play a bullet hell game in your hentai game, why do you expect deep gameplay in a hentai game? (As in, why would you expect something not in hentai games for the most part) Kind of contradictory, to be honest.

-This is definitely a storyline-driven game; it's a matter of taste whether you like your games with storyline or without storyline, though.

I'm not saying your opinion is WRONG, and you did do a well thought out post, just pointing out some of the fallacies in these particular opinions.

I'm on the fence about buying this game and may wait for a leak, give it a try, then donate.

Also not to be judgmental here but Flux aren't you making a small profit from this game as well? Too bad your game stopped btw, was really looking forward to it :(

In full disclosure, I got paid a flat fee, not a percentage fee, so I don't get any extra $$$ if this game sells well.

So that said, my posts about this game are solely genuine; they're not in an attempt to get to make more money for myself or anything of that sort.

And yeah, not sure if that game will ever see the light of day; maybe one day, though!

That was actually a big concern during development, how much did it take for you?

Mine was around 500 or so, which is normal for games, but I don't know how normal for 2D games.

Anyone else have a problem getting the demo to load on Windows 8.1?

Okay so I just found something out people who don't really want to pay money until they try it!

If you download the file he has uploaded to megaupload, the uh, part 1 or whatever he calls it, as long as you just keep hitting ignore like 10-15 times at the beginning you can quite literally play the entire game for free! I just beat it, not bad but still a bit lacking in some parts!

Re: Xenotake (Vosmug game)

Bought and finished it.

It was good. It was short but not in H-content which is what it's all about. And I appreciate Vosmug didn't try to pad out the levels artificially, that would have ended badly. Because the game uses humongous sprites the possible mechanics and level designs are limited. Imagine trying to design a variant of chess with only 6 squares, you'll have to keep it simple. Which Xenotake does, but because Vosmug doesn't waste time with a lot of bullshit I never got bored. At one point I was almost bored but then I was a flying robot and all was well.

I do have a few minor critiques.

Foreground Objects -I think this only happens in the fleshy pink area, there are these foreground objects that really block the action. I'd get rid of them.

Lesbian Scene Unfinished - This scene seems to end abruptly after the first [x] prompt. I'm guessing there was supposed to be more. I'd like this scene continued but at the bare minimum change the prompt from "Next [x]" to "Finish[x]" so we know for certain that this is the full scene and our games aren't glitching.

I'm fairly sure that's all that's shown, but I'll ask him about it.

This has since been fixed; doing this now just crashes the game.

Re: Xenotake (Vosmug game)

Okay well despite that being a mistake on Vosmug's part that means that half of the people that downloaded the game probably already realized that they could get away with it and I'm not a stickler for refusing people's fun on a technicality :/

If you want a download to the old zip that Vosmug posted on his site that "allegedly" wasn't the full game then send me a PM and I will throw you a Megaupload link. One man's error is another mans wank I guess. Just remember you have to hit ignore a few times when you first launch the game and you'll be able to play through to the end and go through the gallery when you beat the game.

And my inbox blew up, good times.

Nobody shared the link so ah well.

Actually, less than 5 people had downloaded it that way prior to you giving out the download.

(Wasn't there something on these boards where you could request to have your stuff not sent around with PMs or stuff where if board members made the game it was frowned upon to pirate it?)
