File conversion help

So, I have a hand held recorder that I'm reading my notes into in the hopes that I can get them into either a VLC or Windows media player readable format so I can listen while I knit and be doubly productive.

But the conversions I've tried so far to change their .voc to .mp3 hasn't worked.

Any suggestions from those more tech savvy than I?

Re: File conversion help

So if I understand correctly you transferred the .voc files to your PC (Windows) and used a converter that is SUPPOSED to be able to convert the files to .mp3 and it didn't work anyway?

edit:
Maybe this web-based converter will do the trick.

Re: File conversion help

Conversions suck.
What may be worth a try however is to convert to .voc into something else (e.g. .wav) before converting it into mp3.

Is the recorder an RCA recorder?

If so, it is a proprietary format and you can either convert the file into a .WAV via RCA Digital Voice manager software (Instructions for this and if you need the manager software simply find your model number ) which you can convert to an .MP3 if you want in a variety of ways (I would suggest either of these online converters [ or ] or my personal favorite with the ) or download the .exe the website converter Obsidious mentioned was based off of

I hope one of those two options are viable for you.

Re: File conversion help

-flail- I've downloaded three different programs to try and convert and apparently none of them recognize .voc files even though Their websites said they did.

I'm starting to get grumpy. If I can't get help for this before today's over with I'll just listen to the damn things on the recorder instead, as cumbersome as it will be.

Re: File conversion help

Given that you've already tried three programs, it may entirely be problem that the problem lies with the .voc file. If it doesn't make you uncomfortable, maybe you could upload a test.voc and we could see if we have the same problems.

Otherwise finding the solution will only depend on who knows the way of the Google best...

Re: File conversion help

That's a cute voice you have :)

Using you can even hear yourself in .wav format, I tried it myself. (RP5120 is already the right one).

Just open the .voc file and select the symbol that kinda looks like a wave. Only thing to remember is that while the file is played or paused, the button will be greyed out, so you may have to stop playback first.

Hope that fixed it.

edit: Since the general link has already been posted, here's that it actually works. The VLC player supports this format.

Re: File conversion help

You seem to be getting a bit of distortion, if you care about that perhaps turn down the record volume or be slightly further away from the microphone and then play the file back louder.

On the other hand if it aint broke dont fix it.
