Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

Razzie just stood in place for a moment, watching the spot from which Venice disappeared in a matter of seconds. She turned her head towards the town, idly noting that the pair was already too far away to be noticed. Scratching her head in disbelief, she glanced at Akitsu, as if to ask whether she saw the same thing. The girl only sighed, however, and resolved to just forget about it. It'd probably make sense after a beer or two.

'Important: find a good source of quality beer in case of emergency. Brain bleach must be always on standby.'

Turning back to Akitsu, Darkstar briefly wondered what to do first, before making her decision. "Hey, want to wander around for a bit? We could see what's where and maybe find some nice places." It was also an excuse to obtain info about local watering holes. "We could swing by the arena later, see what kind of people are there."

Akitsu nodded at Razzie, and so they both went off to find some booze. And find booze they did, arriving at a bar filled with various red oni, a couple young looking kitsune, some bunny girls, and a single crow woman. A holstaurus greeted Razzie and Akitsu as they came in. "Ah, new faces! Come in!" she invited them. "Welcome, welcome! What can I get you?"

"Well, some beer would be nice, if that's not a problem." Razzie replied as she walked in, sparing a few curious glances here and there. The place seemed quite nice, altough it struck her as a little odd that pretty much all patrons were mamono. The city must have been full of them. "We can take a look at other things you've got here after that." Yes, beer was a priority. After that, something with a more unique flavor, and maybe a little chit-chat. Then, before she got completely tipsy, she would continue her visit, properly tempered against any weirdness she might witness.

"I'll give you the standard then." the holstuarus announced, pouring Razzie a pint of foaming booze. Standard indeed, even the smell was average. Not too bad, and not too great as far as booze went. "Here you are." she announced, putting the pint down in front of the girl.

"Thanks." Razzie promptly went to test the beer. It was nothing special - but at the same time, it wasn't bad either. As far as the sliding scale of quality went, this one landed right in the average zone. Good enough for an occasional tanking up. As she continued to drink, she glanced at her partner. "Interested in something?" She asked Akitsu. Gods only knew if skeletons could drink, but hey. It didn't hurt to ask, no?

Glancing over at Akitsu and asking the question, Akitsu nodded. "Yes." she replied, before her bony hand reached down and lifted Razzie's skirt up to show her panties. "Your panties today are very interesting." she announced, while a little kitsune down the bar was looking over with a drunken blush. "HOOOOO~! Nice panties girl!" she cried out.

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

Razzie was not, in fact, wearing a skirt. Mostly because skirts were sub-optimal clothing in case you needed to kick someone in a vulnerable place. They didn't offer as much protection from cold, too - even though it wasn't cold. But the main reason why was because they were that friggin comfortable. And of course, nothing short of a wardrobe malfunction would result in a pantyshot. So when Akitsu decided to admire her master's underwear in public, she did something a bit worse than flipping a skirt up. Something that, in turn, nearly made Razzie choke on her beer as she tried to decide what kind of reaction was appropriate and which emotion was most suitable to the situation.

Unsuprisingly, she settled on smoldering rage.

"NOT IN PUBLIC, GOD DAMN IT!" She yelled, frantically moving to pull her pants back up, fumbling with them a bit as she pulled them up back into position. "And you! You shut the Hell up!" She pointed at the Kitsune, hair rapidly turning full blonde, creating an interesting contrast with the red present all over the young rancher's face. She swept her gaze all around the bar. Her glare promised pain, murder and torture, not exactly in that order, to anyone who tried to so much as say something.

Glaring around the bar, her promise of pain and torture would find it's target, in a rather large oni that was muscular and about ten feet tall. "Nice ass!" she said merrily while the kitsune took out a fan and began fanning herself.

"Oh my~ The hostility is making it so hot in here~" the kitsune announced casually.

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

Razzie, having finished pulling her pants up, desperately tried to focus her attention on her beer. Not that she minded using force - Hell, she really wanted to punch that Kitsune very, very hard. There was just one problem. She wanted to be able to visit this bar in the future, and starting a bar brawl wouldn't help. No, it was probably better to remember the girl so she could be identified for later vengeance. The rancher mentally put up the mamono on her "hit list" right below the loli vampire. In the meantime, she focused back in drinking her beer. She would have her revenge - one way or another, how it happened wasn't important. Figuring out proper methods was best done after a while, and retribution was best served cold. And besides, finishing the beer was important in case the offending monstergirl pushed on and sparked a fight - that way, Razzie could weaponize the mug without wasting precious booze.

Plotting her evil revenge, Razzie would finish her beer while the kitsune spent the whole time in the bar, speaking with a woman with bunny ears about panties. "I will not expose your panties in public." Akitsu announced next to the blond, angry girl. "... I will instead try to see your lewd figure privately."

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

Razzie sat for a moment in silence after Akitsu's announcement, rubbing her eyes with one hand while letting out a tired sigh. 'This... This is starting to become a serious problem.' She looked up, trying to find the woman running the place. The whole situation left her less eager to sample other examples of local booze, though she certainly would visit this place again. For now, she intended to pay, vacate the premises (without murdering the foxgirl that was now talking about panties - Darkstar had a feeling she'd never live this down) and go back to visit the arena. There, she planned to take in a few sights, see what the whole place is about and most importantly, talk to some other ranchers. Preferably ones with undead mamono. Or Hell, even find out where Valdis lived. Razzie felt she really needed some tips on how to deal with shameless skeletons before she blew all the fuses she had - going through another pyro phase or something similiar probably wouldn't be a good thing.

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

The owner of the bar was very apologetic when Razzie went to leave. With the hopes that Razzie would return, the woman behind the bar said that it was on the house, and allowed her to leave without paying. Making her way out with Akitsu in tow, Razzie went to the arena, and saw that a fight was going on. A siren stood on a stack of crates with a large stack of papers that people were sometimes taking at her feet while she shouted out to the crowd. "The fight's not over yet, folks! You can still see the action! Melpha versus Valdis, a championship match between two IMA members! The famous and lewd Rank B Melpha, fighting a grand battle with the dark and unliving Rank A Valdis! This fight could mean Melpha's road to graduation! Don't miss it! Fifty gil for a ticket, Ranchers who purchase a ticket get to bring their partners for free!"

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

Razzie was most suprised by the bar owner's actions. She accepted the offer to leave without paying gratefully, marking the bar down as her primary booze source in the future. The fact that she got something out of the situation aside of embarassment helped brighten her mood a bit as she made her way to the colosseum. And it seemed that her luck would only improve from there.

"Oh ho." Darkstar grinned as she listened to the announcement. "Valdis is fighting... Nice. We could go and take a look at what she and her partners can do, no?" The girl glanced at Akitsu. "We could probably learn a thing or two from her." Razzie had little doubt she wouldn't get another chance to see the necromancer and her partners in action in quite a while, and perhaps she'd get a chance to speak with her as well. "Come on!" She made her way to the stand with the siren. "Hey, where do we buy those tickets?"

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

"On your way into the arena audience, miss!" the siren announced with a grin.

Following her directions, it was rather simple to find out where she needed to go. Walking into the large, grand arena, Razzie found two pathways clearly labeled "Fighters" and "Viewers" hanging over two hallways going left and right. Going to the right, Razzie found herself walking towards a counter where an attractive young man was smiling at her. "Here to see the current match, miss? That will be fifty gil." he announced. From here, Razzie could hear the announcer, a woman with a beautiful voice that sang about the fight to come.

"What a crowd! What a crowd! You've all gathered here to see how Melpha's trained and powerful fighters fare against Valdis' undying minions! For the matchup today, we have on Melpha's side: Anubis - former queen of the western sands, Bow - The ferocious minotaur, and last but not least, Melpha's favorite - Ruin! The Deadly Werewolf!"

"And on Valdis' side, we have Whisper - The doppelganger of many faces! Hollow - The headless demon! And where would Valdis be without her favorite MONSTROSITY!? Frederika! Valdis' latest Frankenstein!"

"The two are ready to fight, and the talk of the town says Valdis' Frederika will be the deciding factor of whether Melpha wins or loses! LET'S FIND OUT!!!" she announced. And if Razzie paid, she would just be arriving at her seat to get a good view of the contestants, a werewolf with black hair, a huge minotaur girl with red hair and a giant hammer, and a noble looking Egyptian dog woman with a gold staff, three of them standing in front of the woman apparently named Melpha. And in front of Valdis, wearing her black dress as usual, stood a massive moving corpse that looked to have been stitched together from countless other bodies, to form a massive humanoid shape, true to the title of monstrosity. Besides that, were a purple haired woman wearing black armor, with a menacing red gaze that Razzie could see even from the audience, and a small, tiny girl with black hair, and a black dress, who trembled meekly, even smaller in size than Valdis herself.

However meek that girl seemed, her shape suddenly shifted, and she now had the appearance of Melpha's werewolf, Ruin, even taking her fighting posture as the meek girl all but vanished in place of a complete copy of Ruin.

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

After entering the arena and buying her ticket, Razzie made her way to her seat, taking in a couple of sights on the way before focusing on the main event - and the stars of the performance. Some part of her took stock of the fighters while the rest of her brain was pumping itself up for the incoming showdown. Melpha's monstergirls were all part animals - a dog, a wolf and a bull. The latter two had the air of brawlers around them, particularly the minotaur. As for Valdis and her team... Yeah, they were monstrosities all right - if not in appearance, then in ability at least. The armored one had a look that could rend a man limb from limb, and even the meek one was not to be underestimated... Not if she managed to perfectly copy her enemies.

Darkstar suddenly regretted the fact that she had no snacks with her. Regardless of the outcome, this promised to be one Hell of a battle. Sadly, Valdis had no skeleton on her team, so the young rancher wouldn't have a chance to see what Akitsu's kin could do, but that mattered little. There was no point in raising the skeleton if she did it only to match something that someone else had already achieved. Going beyond those achievements... Now that was a worthy goal. And this little demonstration would be a good opportunity to see what kind of power she'd have to overcome to achieve it.

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

"3! 2! 1! FIGHT!" the announcer sounded the two sides off.

"Ruin, go!" Melpha announced with a gesture of her hand, before the werewolf took the front.

"Hollow, crush her." Valdis commanded emotionlessly, as the black knight charged forth, moving with lightning speed despite how heavy her armor looked as a trail of dust followed her steps.

Both Ruin and Hollow raced at each other, clearing the entire field in less than a second, before clashing against one other. Ruin did a quick lunge and slice, before Hollow's black cape flourished as she rolled under the werebeast. Turning, she took a knee and held a hand out towards Ruin, before a blast of fire suddenly shot at Ruin. It seemed Ruin had been set aflame, but the werewolf leaped over the fire, claws aiming for the knight. And they landed home, impaling into Hollow's armor as if slicing butter as the crowd screamed as the first connection was made in Melpha's favor. But it wasn't over. Hollow quickly spun in a full circle as Ruin retreated, the sound of steel slicing against flesh as a fine red crescent shaped line of blood formed on the sand. Ruin suffered a fair injury from such a powerful and speedy attack that would have split someone like Razzie in half with ease.

"Ruin! Switch!" Melpha called out, before the wounded Ruin fell back, and Anubis was charging into the fray.

"Hollow, retreat." Valdis announced.

"You're not getting away." Anubis announced calmly, before her golden staff glowed, and released a brilliant flash of light at Hollow. In an instant, right before everyone's eyes, Hollow was turned to stone.

"Frederika." Valdis called out, before the huge zombie groaned, and charged at Anubis, just as the tan woman delivered a blast of magic from her staff that crumbled hollow into pieces, sending a scream from the crowd in response.

"THE FIRST DOWN IS HOLLOW!" the siren screamed.

But the tides changed quickly. Frederika came into the fray, and quickly caught Anubis in her hands. The crowd went wild as the huge figure subdued the queen of the sands, and Anubis let out a breathless cry. "It's useless." Valdis said calmly. "Frederika has the strength of a dragon."

Her announcement seemed to hold true, before a crack was heard, and Frederika promptly tossed Anubis away, her body rolling along the sands like a limp doll. "And then Anubis is immediately taken down as well! The priests are going to have a nightmare bringing them back from sure death!" the siren shouted.

"Bow!" Melpha sends in her minotaur, as the lumbering giant rears back her massive fist, and opts to crush the minotaur. However, her fist stops short as the powerful minotaur catches her fist with her own body, albeit having taken some damage. In retaliation, Bow takes her axe, and swings wide, chopping Frederika's arm off from the elbow, before leaping into the air, so high that none would expect a minotaur capable, before slamming her axe into Frederika's head, bringing the huge monster down.

"FREDERIKA IS DOWN! Valdis has lost her best fighter! All Valdis has now is Whisper!"

On that note, even Razzie didn't see it coming. The doppelganger was suddenly there, right by Bow, before delivering a fatal slash. It wasn't even certain where she hit, but Bow immediately went down, with a pool of blood underneath her. "It's down to the last two fighters!" the siren announced as the crowd was screaming. "And Ruin is wounded! Can she do it!? Can she beat herself in this condition!? No, wait!"

Ruin was just tossing aside a bottle, her wound completely healed. "Melpha had gone shopping to the new shop in town and bought herself some Holstaurus milk! Ruin's been healing this entire time, and she's good as new! Excellent play by Melpha!"

Then, the two werewolves rushed at each other, their battle becoming an allout brawl, slashing and biting each other, fighting like rabid dogs moving twenty times faster, Razzie's eyes unable to track either of them before she suddenly heard Valdis.

"Whisper... Frederika." Valdis announced, before Whisper broke away from Ruin... And the crowd screamed their hardest at the sight.

Whisper transformed into a second Frederika, and the match was over in an instant, Ruin was crushed.

"IT'S OVER! IT'S OVER! VALDIS WINS THE MATCH! THAT WAS UNBELIEVABLE!" she screamed as the crowd clapped and cheered, a whole audience of mamono and humans alike. The announcer began to go over rudimentary congratulations as Valdis approached Melpha, who had sunken to her knees in defeat.

"You haven't been training at all. Stop your pointless search for fertility and your humiliation will cease as well." she lectured Melpha, before turning on that note, and leaving the blond woman in disgrace.

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

Razzie was suddenly glad that she didn't get any snacks. Not because she felt ill - no, she was simply too shocked from all the excitement and suspense the match had provided her with. She just sat in hear seat, feeling a little numb as she got over the emotional overload as she thought back and processed what just happened.

Somehow, she found herself rooting for Valdis in this battle, and was a little worried with how the beginning of the battle was going. Ruin and Hollow were evenly matched, but the initial exchange favored the werewolf. That anxiety gave way to relief as Hollow struck back, forcing both parties to retreat... Then to pure horror as the knight was KILLED by the Anubis. Outraged, Razzie wished nothing but pain and suffering on the transgressor - but she sure as Hell didn't expect retribution to come so swiftly. Frederika certainly had power that more than made up for her freaky appearance... Shame she didn't have the skill to back it up, as the minotaur managed to prove.

Still, all the outrage, bloodlust, vindication and suspense of the first two rounds was NOTHING compared to what happened when Whisper moved in. In one, completely impossible to follow move, she struck down Bow and moved on to challenge Ruin, now back at full strenght. Razzie stared at the spectacle, dumbfounded and full of dread. Whisper was truly a terrifying opponent - able to turn the enemy's greatest strenght against him... And use her ally's greatest power as her own, as Valdis quickly proved. Staring at the victorious doppelganger Razzie felt that the announcer made one critical mistake during the match. She should not have acted as if Whisper was some kind of desperate last resort. No, she was clearly the trump card in Valdis's hand. Sure, her power was borrowed, but when she can freely use the power of other mamono as her own, adapting to potentially any threat...

In the end, Razzie had to admit to herself that there was little wonder why Melpha lost. Sure, her mamono were powerful, strong, fast and deadly. But Valdis had all that as well - and likely any competent rancher could achieve that much with her partners. Valdis found a way to go beyond that, and matched her strenghts appropriately to what her enemy was dishing out. She was way more prepared for this. The girl let out a breath she was holding in unconsciously, noting that her throat was sore. Was she yelling? She couldn't quite remember. With a sigh, Razzie collected herself and stood up. "Come on, Akitsu... Let's go." She needed some fresh air.

Akitsu followed Razzie, leaving with all of the other audience members, going outside, where she saw Valdis and Melpha speaking to a woman in religious robes, mentioning the names of their mamono. Valdis seemed eager to restore her defeated mamono herself, while Melpha seemed eager to accept the woman's help. Regardless, as Razzie left the building, she found herself walking side by side with Valdis, who paid Razzie no mind at all.

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

Razzie found herself on edge as she walked next to the necromancer, even though the woman seemed to ignore her. The girl felt an urge to say something, anything, if only to break the silence and confirm that the victorious commander next to her was still the same weirdo she nearly punched yesterday. That was a rather silly notion however, something Darkstar realized to her chagrin. Mostly her awe speaking. Still, there was no harm in initiating the conversation, right? And she did have a decent topic to talk about. "That was a rather brutal battle." Razzie began, her voice deadpan. "Does every fight around here end with fatalities?"

Not the most gracious or tactful way to start a conversation, but subtlety and refinement were never among Darkstar's flaws.

Re: Darkstar's Ranch (Cross Grave)

"In high ranks, most mamono can continue fighting with 30% of their body missing, on average, and still fight with minimal loss of battle efficiency. Killing blows are required." Valdis replied in an equally emotionless tone. "I sense your attraction to me. If you want something from me, you must prove to me that you aren't weak, that you won't fail and die as Melpha would have under a dire situation such as that. Speak what you want, and if you want nothing, stop following me." Valdis ordered Razzie simply, with a certain cold evil on her tongue, speaking to Razzie as if she were something so inferior to her, not in status or nobility, but purely in strength of survival. Which one of them would be standing following a conflict.
