Status:Moonlight shone down on Aisrideau as she walked through a path in the woods. She was headed towards a midsize dock where a number of boats stopped during their travels on their way to and from Acheron. The reason the city had caught her attention was the demonic nature of its ruling party and the reputation the city had as a haven of all things demonic, seedy, and discrete. Indeed, part of the reason the city had initially appealed to the fallen angel was the way she would be rather inconspicuous in such an environment. It had been quite a long time since she had seen an angel about, and she wasn't even sure if it had been looking for her. Still, she stuck out more than she liked in Lockacre and decided that it was time to move on.

She had more or less enjoyed her time in Lockacre, her most recent conquest having been a duelist of some repute who, while a talented fighter, had posessed an unfortunately weak soul that while sating her hunger had really been lackluster at best. This was another part of the draw of Acheron. She had heard that the demons there were characteristcally attatched to their souls, and had the habit of taking them from others. This presented a more unique challenge to Aisrideau that had not been present in Lockacre.

Beyond the run of the mill demons, their were several persons of note that Aisrideau had caught wind of. There was the infamous bandit leader, a man of great strength and power, leader of a gang of vicious thugs. A professional gambler, a charismatic, easy going man with a winning streak that just wouldn't quit and a man with more than a few tricks up his sleeve. And their was a female knight-turned successful businesswoman. She had apparently been quite the fighter back in the day, and still boasted considerable prowess and a keen mind for tactics and planning. There were more interesting individuals that she had heard of and may decide to be more worthwhile instead, these were just the first three that had come to her mind.

As she crested a hill, Aisrideau caught sight of the boat she was to board for the day (night in this case) and a half long ride to Acheron. The ship looked large enough to hold two to three hundred passengers comfortably. It would be departing in a couple hours. The Orson, as the boat was called looked to be of fairly seedy nature, though that was to be expected, the duelist she had taken the ticket from had had a taste for such environments.

The dock area was a fairly boring affair, a few warehouses and a few inns being the only notable buildings. If Aisrideau decided to board the ship, she could go to her single bedroom and bathroom cabin, the mess hall, bar, or lounge around on deck as she so chose.

OOC:
Sorry for the boring first post, couple questions I wanted to clear up about checks before I start rolling them:
1. Do I always add bonuses to the rolls for things like perception and stealth? reason I ask is your sheet shows perception 30 (33 to rolls with lucky...) So I guess, are there times when you don't roll, or roll differently? (If that makes any sense)
2. Can you (I) scale enemies' stats to make them tougher? I ask because your Aisrideau's stats are...high... Or should I just lay it on you with the upper tier monsters instead?
3. I guess what it boils down to is: How do I arrange encounters for a higher level character like yours? Your character has stealth and perception that basically make it where she would see most enemies and be able to get the drop on them (granted I haven't read all of the monster profiles yet). Would she get a perception check if for instance she was fighting one monster, and another came by and jumped her (not that I would ever do that...)? I'm just looking for ideas at this point.

Oh and I guess it goes without saying, but just in case: I am open to suggestions, corrections, pointers, and anything else all the time. Even on a post by post basis if its needed, I'm here to learn.

*Facepalms as he realizes he can roll checks for the monsters too...

Answers:
1) You do always add the lucky bonus to rolls for Perception and Stealth, it's just included separately on my sheets because it doesn't actually increase those two stats.
2) Yes you can! The monster sheets are designed to be easily scalable for more powerful characters, and against more powerful characters like Ais it's not unreasonable to send more powerful monsters against her. Of course, it should also make sense for those monsters to be present. Peasants with pitch forks should not be using knight stats, nor should town guards, and the town hedge made shouldn't be any higher than an Adept. It's generally more important for the stats to make sense than to provide for really difficult combat in most cases.
3) She would get a Perception check in that case. Generally, if a monster is trying to be sneaky around a PC, then a Perception vs Stealth check is in order. Now, you probably won't have to worry much about Stealth for Ais since she's not actually going to be sneaking about anywhere unless she has a reason to.

Also, some questions of my own:
1) These three individuals, are they on the way to Acheron or in this area? IE: by getting on the boat, would Ais no longer be able to pursue them without coming back to this area?
2) Is that ticket only good for tonight, or can she use it later? It doesn't matter too much to her, she's got wings and all, but it's still something good to know.

Aisrideau stared down upon the Orson imperiously from the top of a hill, her silver eyes shining in the darkness. Most of her figured was hidden by her wings, which were wrapped about her body like a great feathery cloak, and as such none would guess the fallen angel for what she was at a glance. Though she could hardly be called charismatic, Aisrideau had many very effective ways of finding information, most often from those she took to feed off of, and such was the case this time. A lady knight gone to seed would be of moderate amusement, but offered little to sate Ais's relentless bloodlust.... Or lust period for that matter. A gambler, however skilled, would likely be a weaselly fellow possessed of a weak soul. A bandit lord, however.... That offered many opportunities to her, not the least of which was feeding. Sometimes, one could make up for lack of quality with quantity.

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up. As for your questions:
1. These three individuals are in/around Acheron
2. The ticket is only good for one night.

A couple of other things I thought I'd touch on:
1. How much does flying fatigue Ais, as opposed to walking?
2. If you would rather walk or fly to Acheron (or somewhere else for that matter). Its fine with me. I only put the boat in so you have a choice of environment (social or solitary wilderness). I have scenarios thought up for each of the three travel methods, so feel free to travel by whichever method strikes you.
3. Can Ais sense the quality/strength of souls? I ask because of her thing with strong and weak souls. I ask just so that I can write accordingly. If there is no rule in place, I am perfectly fine having it in this thread, I just may make stronger beings and objects capable of thwarting such a sense.

As Ais stood atop the hill, a band of rough-looking sailors bustled past her and on towards the ship. At the same time, there was a noticeable uptick in the amount of passengers boarding the ship. Now would be as good a time as any if she wanted to board unnoticed amongst a crowd.

Still, as she surveyed the area she saw a road leading in the same direction she wanted to travel, and if memory served, it was a secondary road mostly used by foot travelers and small groups on horseback. This was another option for reaching Acheron. It would take longer, but should she fancy some woodlands adventures then that path would likely suffice.

And of course she could always take to the air. It was a cloudless night after all, lovely flying weather. Though by flying she did increase the risk of detection by angels. Though even then it would still be an extremely small risk, and the option as a whole reduced her chances of conflict with other creatures.

Re: aguy Test Thread

Cool and cool!

More answers:
1) Supernatural beings in DG-verse don't tire like living creatures. Angels, demons, and fairies all normally don't sleep unless they're knocked unconscious or have had an exceptionally strenuous day. As such, Ais could conceivably fly straight to Acheron without tiring much, but as you pointed out in your post, it'd make her a target for any angels wandering the area, which she wants to avoid.
2) Cool! This is generally a good policy, as expecting a player to take the path you present them with is generally not the greatest of ideas in my experience. >.>
3) She can, as could most supernatural beings, and even reasonably talented mages or spirit wielders regardless of race. A person's personal power can be suppressed and hidden by anyone with decent power, which Ais almost always does so as to avoid detection, but particularly powerful demons or fey would be able to see through that, as could any adult angel or daemon powerful enough to manifest a body. This is less an existing rule and more an aspect of the fluff surrounding magical power in DG.

Before you ask about the difference between daemons and demons in DG, which is a question I answer all the time: demons are living creatures coming from another world, in this case Hell, who just have a lot of inherent magical power. They need their bodies and vital organs just like anyone else, though they can on average take a bit more punishment than a human or other mortal. Daemons, on the other hand, are spirits, and thus have no need with a body save to interact with the physical world. Destroying a daemon's body rarely does anything more than inconvenience them, and earn you the anger of one of the most powerful beings around if they can manifest or possess a body. The gods in DG are all daemons, to give you an idea of how powerful they can get, though all daemons are not gods obviously.

Aisrideau glanced at the sailors as they passed, watching them impassively for a moment before turning her gaze back down to the boat to see the thing filling with passengers. It would be departing shortly, it seemed, and with a glance toward the foot path leading to Acheron and another at the clear skies she started forward at a deceptively swift pace, not running or even apparently hustling but still moving quite quickly. It was generally amusing for the dark angel to move among her prey, as she had never had a mother to instruct her not to play with her food, and doing so on a boat would be an amusing change of pace.

Moving forward with her dark feathery wings wrapped around her like a cloak, Ais held the ticket she'd taken from one of her more recent meals and strolled forward casually, joining those making their way onto the vessel and presenting her ticket if asked, but otherwise attempting to maintain as low a profile as a woman of her exceptional beauty could. She had often been mistaken for a member of the human nobility before, and passing off as such now would likely make her task that much easier.

As Ais boarded the Orson, a boatman checked her pass and let her aboard, giving her a respectful nod, saying, "Any baggage milady?" There was a burly sailor standing by to carry her things and show her to her room. Both men gave her appraising looks which may have elicited concern from a less powerful person, but for whatever reason, perhaps the subtle warning of a subconcious animal instinct, the men decided to not harass her, and the burly one helped her to her private quarters. After listing of areas of note on the ship, the man excused himself to go tend to the business of launching the ship.

The room really wasn't a bad one considering the somewhat seediness of the ship. There was a bedroom with a single large bed, a private bathroom with a shower, and a large dresser. Upon inspection, the bed was quite comfy, it would be easy to pass the entire trip on the bed if Ais so desired, alone, or with some company. She noticed a envelope on the bedside table and picked it up. Reading through it, it seemed it was addressed 'To Occupant'. It was an invitation to dinner at the captain's table. From the lack of a specified recipient, it seemed a safe bet that her presence in the place of the duelist would not be noted so long as she brought the invitation with her. And what's more, the table would likely host the most interesting people on the ship, the one's with the strongest souls.

Perception: 2 + 26... yea you would have found this without rolling actually...
And speaking of souls... She could feel the presence of a fairly strong one nearby. It was somewhere out on the main deck, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to find. She could easily go out on the main deck to find the soul, judging by the card, she still had a few minutes to kill before dinner. Or she could spend some time exploring other parts of the ship, such as the mess, crew quarters, navigation, or the engine room.

Re: aguy Test Thread

"I have no baggage to carry," Aisrideau replied simply to the burly sailor's offer, which was true. The angel, not needing to eat, drink, or sleep nearly as often as a mortal did, required no such supplies and thus didn't bother to carry them or the means to acquire them. She listened to his explanations of the various areas of the ship attentively but without comment, and allowed him to leave without hearing her voice a second time. Her thoughts were preoccupied, firstly with the powerful spirit she'd felt on the deck, but then on the letter she found on the bedside table.

An invitation to dine with the captain? That could be... Interesting, and would at least offer a suitable hunting ground. Yes, she would have to take up this offer, but first, she would have to find out more about the soul she had felt on the deck. Placing the folded invitation into a pocket in her robes, Aisrideau strode out of her cabin, shutting the door behind her and heading back to the main deck.

This isn't really absolutely necessary, but in my experience it's generally best to keep rolls and their attached flavor text inside of a spoiler. It tends to break the flow of the text if you put rolls in the middle without hiding them somehow.

Perception: 29+7= 36 (High enough to notice ominous foreshadowing)
Making her way to the deck, Ais was greeted by the sight of crewmen bustling around the deck, preparing the ship for departure. Besides the crew, a number of passengers were meandering around, be they gazing off to the sides aimlessly, socializing with friends, cohorts, or potential marks, or even just enjoying the weather. For a moment it seemed as though it would be difficult to locate the source of the strong spirit among the mass of humanity, beastkin, and general assortment of other races that were represented on deck. Then she saw what was unmistakeably the Orson's captain.

Standing over seven feet tall, weighing in at well over three hundred pounds, the orc was a prime example of his species. With dark green skin and two tusks several inches in length, he encapsulated all of the power, strength, and primal forces characteristic of the orcish race. About the only thing un-orcish about him was his captain's uniform.

It was a navy blue, botton down dress shirt with a double row of brass buttons. There were gold stripes embroidered on it's breast and over the top gold epaulettes on his shoulders. The outfit was also a size or two small on him, looking comically small while accentuating the captain's bulging muscles. Size aside, it was a far nicer piece than one would expect of anyone who crewed such a vessel as the Orson, lending a comically outlandish air to the whole thing. Still, it was doubtful anyone with a lick of good sense laughed at the sight within sight or earshot of the orc.

As Ais pinpointed the captain, a smaller, nervous-looking crewman approached the captain, and she overheard the little man inform him that all passengers were aboard.

"Very well then." The orc replied in a gruff voice, though it was still rather cultured as far as orcs went. "Cast off then, no sense delaying our departure." The crewman noticeably paled at this, and voiced some disagreement, too quietly for Ais to hear, though he gestured at the fading light in the sky multiple times. "Its over a day's journey to Acheron, and there are no safe ports between here and there. We go. Now. The pale man timidly saluted the captain and moved off towards what could only be the bridge.

The captain was left unoccupied for the moment, Ais could presumably approach him now if she so wished. Though she would certainly see him in a short while for dinner anyway, so her time now may be better spent talking to the pale crewman and perhaps finding out what had him so worried. It was presumably more dangerous on the river at night, but they were a big-enough crew that such things should not be of concern to them...right?

And back! Finals next week, then a more stable posting schedule for me. Sorry for the inconvenience. Now for posts where things may actually be accomplished! If you decide to take those options.

Re: aguy Test Thread

The very last thing that Aisrideau had expected to see captaining a Badarian vessel was an orc. Granted, the xenophobic human's had been forced to accept the presence of a great many non-humans in their midst following the destruction of their empire, but that one of the beastmen could rise to such a position here was... Surprising, to say the least. The fallen angel didn't find the man's appearance comical in the slightest, the sight of his bulging muscles beneath the too-small uniform a clear sign of his physical power, the fine material of his clothes marking him as a man of success, and given his heritage and the relative strength of his spirit, it was likely that he had fought to earn his position. The implied history, the strength of his soul, and his physical presence were all intoxicating to the hungry angel, and her silver eyes gleamed as she gazed at him from across the deck.

She paid only the barest of attentions to the conversation that took place between captain and crewman as she eyed the well dressed orc, but Ais did take note of the man's concerns. Bandits were, of course, no threat at all to her, but knowing that she might be in for excitement sometime later in the night was always worth knowing ahead of time. That in mind, she stepped into the path of the pale man as he parted from his captain, smiling alluringly and speaking in an imperious voice that was an impeccable impersonation of a Badarian noblewoman; "Excuse me, but I overheard you speaking to your captain a moment ago... Are we likely to be attacked on our way to Acheron?" She put enough false fear into her voice to hopefully convince the sailor that she was just some preening Badarian noblewoman concerned for her own safety, a part she played well considering the fact that she'd eaten several Badarian noblewomen in the past.
