"Alright, privates. Mission status has changed. Instead of going in, we're going to pinpoint the dens for bombardment. More collateral, but it's not coming out of our paycheck, and it's less risky. Let's get going." The corporal starts leading the way, with the others falling in line with him.

Having no objection, Deidre kept silent and fell in with the others, following the corporal.

Moving through the jungle feels even more tedious than before, but the group has only moved several hundred meters when the corporal signals stop. "More hostiles! Spread out and prepare to fire."

Deidre's heat sensors can make out at least two large figures, the same size as the bear from earlier.

Deidre nudged Willow and the two of them spread out off to the right, in an attempt to flank the two large figures being picked up by their heat scans. She kept her rifle up, ready to fire upon getting a visual.

As the six of them spread out, the two heat sources don't move. The thick jungle covers them from sight even as they get closer, until the corporal signals a stop. "Switch to thermal sighting and focus fire on the right one. Fire at will."

Flicking on her thermal sights, Deidre set her scope on the right target, aimed center mass, and squeezed her trigger, hoping this corporal knew what he was doing.

As all six of them fire bursts towards one of the bears, the other charges in, managing to trash one of the other mercenaries quite badly before Deidre and the others turn their fire towards it, the large creature being reduced to little more than ashes in seconds as the assaultblasters fire streams of plasma shells to it. One of the shots seems to have hit the fallen soldiers armor leaving scorch marks, but he's otherwise fine, more or less.

"Two more hostiles down," Deidre commented as the strange bear like creatures were eliminated. She stood near the injured soldier to check on his status, but when it was clear he'd be all right, she went back to stand with Willow. Deidre scanned the sky of this alien planet, and then the treelines, keeping an eye out for any signs of incoming trouble. She knew the high tech scanners were available to her, but she wanted to trust her own eyes as well.

There doesn't seem to be any danger nearby, and soon the corporal motions the group to move again. Everyone stays alert, but there's no move signs of danger before Deidre hears muffled screaming short ways ahead. As the spider nest - a huge structure of wood and webbing - comes into view, Deidre just manages to spot a webbed young woman being dragged inside by a pair of spiders.

The corporal orders everyone to halt before radioing to command: "Forward 1 to HQ, Forward 1 to HQ, we've located the lair. Collateral damage confirmed."

"HQ to Forward 1. We copy. Paint the target for airstrike."

The corporal pulls out a device looking a little like a flashlight and points it towards the next, clicking it on.

Deidre sighs and puts her hand on the flashlight device, pushing it down to the ground.

"Hold on, sir. There was a civilian woman being dragged inside that nest. We can save her, she's still near the entrance. Then we'll paint the target for airstrike. We're supposed to be the best damned force in this sector, we can get her out of there."

The corporal stares at Deidre for a moment before exchanging some whispered words with the person in the other end of the radio.

"Alright, if you want to do heroics, now's your time. You have ten minutes to get in and out."

Nodding, Deidre turned to Willow. "Deer, watch my six."

Hefting her rifle in her hand, the argent-haired huntress broke cover and made her way into the nest as fast as she could, wanting to catch up with the civilian prisoner before she disappeared too far down the nest. Deidre kept her infra red sensors up to follow their heat trace through the tunnels.

The other soldiers scan the surroundings for danger while Deidre enters the nest closely followed by Willow. Beyond the entrance is a small, dark chamber with walls made of web and floor of solid ground, thankfully. From the chamber leaves five tunnels, two moving upwards through the webs and three along the ground. The walls are somewhat effective in stopping infrared, but Deidre can still spot multiple forms of the spiders, as well as the clearly hotter girl being dragged along the ground towards the center of the nest.

"Towards the center, let's hurry!" Deidre said emphatically and charged forward, running headlong down the tunnels so that she could get a clearer shot at the enemies with the civilian. She made sure not to touch the walls covered in webbing as she didn't have the time to deal with getting stuck. Not unless she wanted to be blown to bits when the artillery strike came along in less than ten minutes.

When he got close enough to bring down the arachnids who were carrying the girl, she'd take her shot.

Rushing blindly forward in the darkness, Deidre doesn't see the ceiling getting lower, and her arms get stuck in the web-wall, causing it to start vibrating while Willow manages to stop in time to avoid the same fate. To Deidre's IR-enhanced vision, it seems that all the spiders have started to move towards them.

Willow quickly grabs Deidre from behind, tearing her free before pulling a grenade off of her belt. "I think we're in trouble. Got any good spells?"

"Nothing that will solve our current problem..." Deidre was angry at herself for not seeing the web wall. "Toss your grenade down the tunnel here. As soon as it blows, we'll run through and try to take down the spiders carrying the girl. We'll take one shot, if we don't drop them, then we hightail it out of here. Okay?"

"Roger that." Willow pulls out the pin and throws the grenade forward with underhanded throw that wouldn't shame a professional pitcher. Two seconds later the grenade blows up, lighting the nest up perhaps for the first time as the explosion and the iron-fragments tear up the web and cause most of the spiders to scatter, save for the one carrying the girl and two others which seem wounded.

"Right! After that spider!" Deidre cried and ran forward again, this time taking aim while running and aiming for the legs of the spider carrying the girl. She squeezed the trigger, letting loose a controlled three round burst, trying to take the kidnapper down. She didn't have much time left...

Only one of Deidre's shots hits the spider, but Willow manages a little better, bringing the spider down. The two wounded spiders move to defend themselves, both spraying webbing at the intruders, the first hitting Willow's legs and managing to trip her and the second catching Deidre's arm and gluing it to her side.

"Fuh! Not again!" Deidre growled, trying to free herself from the webbing before attacking again. If the situation didn't get better soon, she'd use a psychic blast to knock away one of the spiders, since such an attack would be unimpeded by the webbing.
