This is an interest/feeler thread for a concept I've been mulling over that could end up being very interesting, depending on whether it appeals to others on this site. It will use a slightly modified version of the Amber diceless RPG rules.
The Concept (in brief):
The King of Amber, Olin, is dying of mysterious causes and now his sons and daughters must vie for the right to ascend to the throne. This is no ordinary king and no ordinary kingdom. Amber is the heart of the Pattern, the representation of all Order in creation. All other worlds (including Earth) are merely Shadows of Amber. There are infinite shadows, and of each shadow, there are an infinite number of variations. The only true realities are Amber and its polar opposite: The Courts of Chaos.
As a scion of Amber, you are naturally immortal, and your blood allows you to walk the Pattern and be imprinted with the awesome power that it holds. Some of you may be descended from a House of Chaos as well, since Olin had several wives and countless mistresses, and if so, you may be able to travel the Abyss and learn the ways of the Logrus - prime Chaos. Still others of you may learn lesser but still potent powers, such as Trump Artistry, Sorcery, Words of Power, Conjuration, Shapeshifting, or other hidden abilities.
Attribute Auction
Even without these powers, Amberites live in the one true world and thus are many times more powerful than regular humans. Their only true competition in mental an physical feats are themselves and possibly the Lords of Chaos.
To represent this, Character Creation is done simultaneously in a Bidding War which represents years of rivalry and struggle between the Princes and Princesses of Amber.
You will bid on general categories of Psyche, Strength, Endurance, Weapon Skill, and Tactics.
After that you will bid on a selection of political and material advantages, such as potent allies within and outside of Amber, or powerful artifacts, or simply your birth order to see who the people of Amber naturally support!
With the points you have left, you will buy powers and starting relics of your own. Whereas your ranking in Attributes is public, no one but you truly knows what you're capable of unless you tell or show them.
The Prize
There can be only one victor. PCs may make temporary alliances but in the end, only one PC shall sit the throne. All others must either be dead, imprisoned, or pledge undying fealty to their superior sibling.
This is a diceless system, so victory is dependent upon who can press their advantage the most. If you don't have high strength, you'd better avoid letting someone else get their hands wrapped around your throat, otherwise you're done. The good thing is that through various powers and an infinite number of Shadow worlds to hide out in, you can bide your time to plot and plan your ascension against foes who might be stronger than you in a particular area.
If there is enough interest in this concept, I'll post a list of rules and power costs. If you'd like to see an example of an Amber Throne War front page done by somebody else, here's an interesting
