Re: Lost in the Jungle

Option C) wins it.

----

Eve comes to a decision in less than a second. She's fit and well, high on magical energy - and if she can't take out the threat of even the first level, then what's the point of even being here?

Caution might be prudent, however.

Backpedalling towards the exit, Eve keeps her focus on the horde approaching her. She snipes one through the head with a piercing arrow, and it drops like a stone. She catches a second - tall, female - that was getting a bit close, and again gets it straight in the head. After that, she decides to conserve arrows - they'll probably come in more useful later.

Risking a quick glance behind, Eve sees she's already much closer to the exit - only 15 or so meters to go. The horde have closed as well, however; their moans seem ever louder, filling the whole room, and a faint odor wafts from them. Something moist and fungal... the scent of decay and rot.

Anyway, some of the horde are in sword range now, so Eve unsheathes her weapon whilst still moving as quickly as possible back through the water. With it up to her waist, it's infuriatingly slow work, with the only consolation being the zombies aren't exactly scything through it themselves. One or two remain behind her - the perhaps slightly deaf ones that weren't drawn off by her ruse with the arrows earlier. One their own they're easy enough to dispatch - a decapitating swing at the neck and another arrow through the skull respectively - but the horde are still a menace.

10 meters to go now. Nine. Eight. One in front of her gets too close for comfort, and Eve aims a slicing blow at it's neck - only for her sword to get stuck in a vertebrae! Panicking, she wrenches it free, but it costs precious seconds - the group's practically on top of her now.

Seven meters.

Six.

Fuck!

Eve stumbles on something concealed under the water - a root, a rock, or a chained up zombie, it's impossible to tell - and goes tumbling backwards with a spash. Her head goes under for a second, and when she brings it back up, water streaming down her face, she knows that desperate measures are called for.
Spluttering, she tries to get out the words of the Ice Blast III spell - the protective walls of ice should buy her some time - but it's too late. The first of the zombies reaches her, grabs her head, and in a surprising turn of speed pulls her down to its groin level... eye to eye with its fully erect member.

Of course. They just had to be that kind of zombie.

Eve's mouth opens slightly in surprise, and is instantly pulled down over the cock. It's cold, slick, and faintly disgusting. In less than a second, Eve feels other arms grab her arms... then her legs... and hold her tight. Curious fingers and... other parts... start to feel inquisitively up her legs, as she's held in place almost horizontally on top of the water.

Shit, this isn't good.

-----

No options - there's an easy(ish) way out of this, but you might have to think (or read) quite some way back. Something that seemed kinda random at the time...

I'll update when someone gets the right answer, or when they come up with an alternate solution that impresses me so much I just go with that anyway.

Ok... So this is the dark side of the soul floor...right? If we can get to the stairway we are safe, according to the creepy old dude... 7 is a wonky number....

Maybe the zombies aren't the deadly danger on this floor? If we pleasure them (7 of them?), maybe we can find a moment to break away and get to the staires? Reading back, I don't know if you meant there was only one danger per floor or at least one deadly danger per floor, but this is my best for now. I will make an effort to go back further in my readings later, but there is a large quantity of material to read over.

Or i guess we could use that nifty little green lightup toy and hope for the best, that could work too...

when you said we would have to read back... any chance you could say if what we need is posted before or after your hiatus?

Before. Before getting to the town, even.

Yeah, at least 1 deadly danger, although admittedly it's only the zombies for this floor.

Re: Lost in the Jungle

The decomposition powers we've just obtained are consciously controlled, there's no risk of touching a book and accidentally making it rot. :) I'm not even sure it's a very useful ability - you certainly wouldn't be able to use it on anything living, and say there's a dead tree blocking your path... it still wouldn't rot it very quickly, you'd have to have a few hours to spare. I kinda threw it in on a whim, really.

Decomposing touch!!!!
In one! :)

----

Thinking back - a mighty achievement itself, what with having a grotesque penis in her mouth and wandering hands creeping up her legs - Eve tries to recall anything that might help her. Her sword has been knocked from her hand and lies on the floor of the pool. Her backpack is still on her back, as is her bow, but with her arms held in place by the zombies, she can't reach them... and there's probably nothing of use anyway.

Spells? It'd have to be non-verbal, ruling out all of her elemental magic. Flexible Shadow? No, that's no good...

Argh! Whilst she was pontificating, the zombies have seized the advantage - Eve is powerless and they splay her legs wide, and the first of the group steps up behind her, pushes her sodden dress out of the way, and thrusts brutally into her unprotected sex. The moaning seems to redouble as he grips her by the waist, his thick, wide cock sliding fluidly in and out. The one in her mouth also picks up speed, running itself across her tongue and pushing almost to the back of her throat.
For her second her concentration is shattered and Eve does nothing but hang there, suspended horizontally in the group of zombies, moaning softly herself.

The individual gripping her waist climaxes, his wet, sticky cum flooding her insides. He pulls out, still moaning, and a second one takes his place, thrusting eagerly away with twice the speed of the first. And the crowd shows no sign of thinning...

Think! Eve commands herself, just as another wet load is sprayed into her mouth. She gags, spits it out, and soon finds her mouth filled again by a fresh member.
Think! They're dead! What are they vulnerable to?

They're dead.

What do dead things do?

They rot.

Oh, of course.

The mushroom, Death's Friend or whatever - the one she collected for the old woman, ages and ages ago - the old woman said it should have killed her, but instead it gave her the ability to make things rot! It didn't seem helpful at the time, so had it slipped her mind - but what better time to use it than now?

Feeling inside for the magic - thank christ it doesn't require any words, just concious thought - Eve finds the magic essence (the blueprint, as it were) of those spores she inhaled long ago. Finds them... and releases them.

A wave of spores passes out from her body, flowing in all directions. It covers the entire group around her... who promptly let her go.
Eve falls under the water again - that's been happening far too often - and when she comes up, she sees the zombies staggering back. As she watches, mushrooms sprout from all over their bodies, swelling and pulsing as they draw nourishment from the flesh. It's like watching a time-lapsed film, as zombie flesh puckers, drawing inwards. Arms and legs drop off in seconds, hollowed out husks no longer attached by anything.

In minutes, the zombies surrounding her are dead - well, deader than they were before. One or two remain, closer to the entrance of the room... but they don't matter. Flushed with her success, Eve retrieves her sword from the bottom of the pool, and makes her way calmly to the exit.

She makes it to the stairs - and as soon as she steps completely on to them, she dries off instantly, and the bone-numbing chill of the water vanishes. Huh. Convenient.
The staircase is spiral, and quite short. Eve makes it up in no time. At the top she finds a thick, wooden door... and confidently steps through it.

The first thing that hits her is the heat. It's sweltering, staggeringly hot - the whole air dances with it. Rocks cover the ground as far as the eye can see - this is no simple room, it's more like an entire damn... environment.
In the distance, Eve sees a volcano, ash and smoke billowing from its peak. Lines of lava run down it, and in fact across the rocks in front of her. The rivers of lava form a Y shape, with Eve trapped in the top triangle. The exit - and archway, standing mysteriously on its own towards the base of the Y, off to one side, is visible at least. Behind Eve - on either side of the wooden door she just stepped through - is white stone, similar to the black stone that made up the walls of the lower layer.

Tricky... and in the distance, Eve hears a monstrous, ear-splitting roar, followed by the flapping of gigantic wings.

-----

Option A) Use loose rocks to make stepping stones across the lava river. Try and ignore the threat for now.
Option B) Concentrate on what made that noise first, then try and make a way across the river. Although is it a trick of the light... or are they growing wider?*
Option C) Other.

* They are.

Re: Lost in the Jungle

Can we say A but keep an eye out on the sky (seeing as it sounds like a flying monster)?

Edit: For the spell I reckon Arouse II, never know when we might run into a horny enemy :p

Re: Lost in the Jungle

OK, corruption spell list:
- Arouse II (self explanatory)
- Bad Luck III.
- Flexible Shadow II (it can form fairly simple, tangible 3-D shapes).
- Dread I (makes animals or people more afraid/nervous).
- Escape Plan (keep 1/2 your corruption points when taking over a new host).
- Drain I (you can drain small amounts of energy (expressed as HP) from physical contact with another organism).

Re: Lost in the Jungle

Actually I'm going to say Flexible Shadow II to make a stick figure running away from us flailing about making a big distraction, might give us a better chance at avoiding the beasty. Remember serpentine, serpentine!!

B. Flexible shadow 2, are the shapes tangible enough to say...walk on over lava? I am dubious of rocks lasting long enough in magma to serve as a bridge.

Re: Lost in the Jungle

Vote A wins, with Flexible Shadow II being the chosen spell.

Unnoticed by Eve, the horns on her head, originally mere humps, are now full-blown, lustrous and curved... and a cut on on the back of her leg leaks a drop of black blood.

(Yes, you could argue she's becoming less attactive, but it's supposed to be a visual metaphor for her high levels of corruption!)

-----

Whatever made that roar isn't the issue right now. It's too hot to stay here for long - much longer and Eve thinks she might pass out - and the rivers of lava seem to be growing wider all the time.

There's no easy way across them - Eve briefly considers using Flexible Shadow to build rudimentary stepping stones, but concludes the vaguely tangible shapes she could form just wouldn't cope with being dunked in roasting hot lava.

Stones it is. Fingers crossed the lava isn't very deep.

Picking up a good sized rock in her arms (it's roughly the size and shape of a big cardboard box, and weighs a frigging ton) Eve heaves it into the river. The splashback comes worryingly close to her, but thankfully most of it lands in the river again and the little that doesn't soon pools through the gaps between the rocks on the banks, where it cools and hardens.
The rock is just the right shape - it sticks out of the lava nicely, not to close to it, but usable as a platform.

Eve jumps onto it, and realizes her problem; it's not far enough into the river of lava for her to be able to jump to the other side. Just as she's considering her options - would any spells be helpful? - a screech snaps her to attention.

A dragon. Christ. Huge, reptilian, blazing red scales and thick, muscular limbs. A massive head full of razor sharp, blade-like teeth. Its wings are huge, but even so only just seem capable of keeping it aloft, with thick, heavy beats.

It swoops down towards Eve, roaring in fury, a blast of fire incinerating the air before it.

----

Option A) Strike it down with a spell before it hits us.
A1) Thunder Blast III.
A2) Water Blast III.

Option B) Jump out of the way, back onto the rocky ground we were just standing on. It's better to be safe and cautious.

Option C) Avoid the fire, then try and grab onto the dragon as it flies past. Try being the operative word. Hey, it's one way to get across the river! Only downside is we might fall in it.
