The captain grunts. "Join the others. Lets see how you'll do in drills." As the captain speaks, one of the sergeants starts yelling orders, getting the guards lined up in four lines and ready to continue.

"Okay.... Sir," Natalie replied, quickly adding in the honorific before turning away and moving to join the lines forming under a lesser officer's barked orders.

"Forward... thrust! Stand... back! Close the ranks! About... turn! Forward march! One-two!" the sergeant yells a seemingly endless stream of command that repeat themselves while the other sergeants circle the formation, pointing out mistakes and yelling a lot.

Natalie would follow the barked orders, including the added corrections from the sergeants, to the best of her ability in the clunky gear. She wasn't good at it, having never been trained in any of the things that she was expected to do, but her symbiote at least gave her the physical strength and agility to handle all of it.

The drilling seems to drag on and on and... huh? It feels like it only began five minutes ago despite lasting for at least an hour before the lieutenant calls for a halt. "Alright men. Squads three and four on patrol tomorrow. Dismissed." The guards automatically stand to attention before heading back to the barracks.

The captain gestures Natalie to come closer. "I think I've seen enough for a preliminary report. You can drop the gear off at the barracks and then tell the count that I'll give him the report tomorrow."

On and on it went, but then all of a sudden it was over, and after stumbling a little bit as the soldiers scattered Natalie sighed as she found herself confronted by the commander. "Okay," she said, and then shuffled off to return the gear before going to the count to deliver the captain's message. She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do next, but it was ultimately up to her lord.

At the barracks, one of the corporals takes Natalie's kit before she heads back to the laboratory, passing a pair of servants cleaning out the hallway near it. Inside she finds the Count making yet another alchemical cocktail that smells almost pleasant. "Oh, you again. How did the testing go?" he asks her, continuing to work on the brew as he listens to her. "I see. Well, we'll just have to wait for the good captain's report. Since you're here, I want you to watch this solution for me. Keep the burner on low flame until the solution starts turning green, then put it inot the icebox. Oh, and you should clean up here for a bit while waiting, it's getting rather dusty. I have some paperwork to do."

"Well enough sir," Natalie replied, and if pressed offered a more detailed report. When he continued, she nodded to his commands and gave a curtsey, "yes sir!" It was incredibly boring work, especially compared to the more exciting stuff she'd been doing lately, but Natalie followed his instructions to a T, watching the brew carefully while cleaning up and carefully putting it in the ice box when it started turning green.

Soon the solution starts smelling like apples, and Natalie's symbiote seems to react to fumes, spreading out to cover more of her and vibrating faintly.

Ignoring the smell and the vibrations of her symbiote, Natalie continued to follow the instructions she'd been given, waiting until the solution turned green before carefully transferring it to the ice box.

As soon as the solution is in the icebox, the symbiote seems to calm down, though it still clings to Natalie's form for a while before starting to obey her mental directions and leaving Natalie with nothing more to do here.

With nothing more to do here, Natalie would do as instructed and clean up a bit more before trying to figure out what time it was, wondering if it was lunch or dinner time.

Natalie arrives to the dining hall at the tail end of the lunchtime. The lunch seems to be mashed potatoes, some sort of stroganoff and breadrolls, which a serving girl whose name Natalie doesn't recall hearing hands to her with a small frown she quickly hides.

"Something wrong?" Natalie said as she took the food, noticing the look the serving girl tried to hide.

"Nothing." the girl quickly answers, busying herself starting to clean things up and carry used dishes into the kitchen.

Shrugging, Natalie would let the girl do as she liked before rising and stretching, finished with her meal and pondering if she had anything else she needed to do today. If she couldn't think of anything, she would opt to track down her boss, and if he had nothing would go to the barracks for some "recreation."

Natalie finds the count in his study, apparently writing a long letter, with half-eaten and then forgotten lunch pushed aside to make room for a thick alchemical tome that's been laid open and which he appears to be referring to, from time to time. "Ah, Natalie. The captain delivered his report and while his language is colourful as always, the results appear to be in line with the earlier tests. However, there's only so much one can learn without live tests. Are you feeling up for a little adventure?"

The count sighs and closes the tome before finally lifting his gaze to Natalie. "Excellent. Some of the hunters in Helmsdale have been having trouble with some sort of 'cave monsters'. It's probably just giant spiders, though the reports... well, they CLAIM that the said monster or monsters had human heads, but the hunters were probably drunk and they have tendency of exaggerating things, especially if they turned and ran. At any rate, such things need to be look at and dealt with. I'm sure you'll have no trouble as long as you're careful, but you can take a few guards with you if you want."

"Of course sir... I'll round up a few guards and go and investigate. Shall I bring back samples if possible?" she replied, and then departed for the guard barracks, intent on picking up a few of the men she'd met, especially the pair she had "thanked" at one point if at all possible. On the way, she tried to remember how far a walk it was to Helmsdale and how many supplies they ought to pack. Once she had at least four men and enough supplies for them to last, plus what she'd need to gather samples, Natalie would simply be on her way.
