A friend of mine is in a contest. I know it's a rap contest, and I know it's really awkward for me to ask you guys, a bunch of strangers, to help a person you barely even know. But this is really important to him. Just make a Facebook and vote for him.

And no, I wasn't hacked, I wasn't held at gunpoint. And I know this probably belongs in the Announcements thread, but I figured this would get more attention. Pleeeeeeeease help out.

I feel pretty bad for doing this sort of thing, but the recognition he'll get from this would really help him out. Right now, he's finally overthrown the first placer and he's got a twenty vote lead. But with five days ahead of him, anything can happen.

Do I really want to try and "sell" my friend and thereby discredit his effort as well as undermine other peoples intelligence and ability to make a choice for themselves. No, absolutely not and if I know my friends enough, they would be happy to have just participated.

No offense, Dark. But I think that bad feeling you claim to be getting is the right direction to take.

No, absolutely not and if I know my friends enough, they would be happy to have just participated.

I get what you mean, but there's something you need to understand. Pretty much every other competitor is doing the exact same thing. The one in first place right now happens to have a gigantic Spanish family that's been telling all their friends to vote here. This is literally one of the comments on the video: "Need all my friends to take 2 minutes of their time and vote for my nephew kevin Gomez plzzz! just click on the link below and vote on his way to making his dream come true thanks everyone ." That video also jumped ahead of my friend's video by about 200 votes, when just yesterday we were barely winning by like twenty votes. Are you seriously going to tell me that that guy happened to get 200 votes because people liked his rap over my friend's? It's not exactly the most well-known website.

I know my friend's talented and I know that he could impress people if he wanted to; I hate rap and he still won me over. But it's not as if this website is popular. And it's not like people have even heard of this contest. How is anyone supposed to win if they don't spread the word about it?

And besides. This contest pretty much gives enormous exposure to the winner. Their lyrics get added to the third verse of The Game's next song and is credited to the creator. It's a very big deal to try and win this for my friend. Am I discrediting him? Maybe, maybe not. But all I know is that even though I'm not comfortable throwing this out to people I barely know, I'll do it to see him win.

But I do get what you're saying, so no offense taken.

Think I got it. It now says I'm supporting him. And yeah, unfortunately, things like this don't always come down to how good you are, but how many votes/supporters/clicks you can wrangle up. That being said, good luck to him!

I can understand friends and family, but random peeps from the interwebz... that's a whole other story. Hell, no doubt you're right about the other competitors doing what you're doing.

It's almost wishing too much to get a legit competition now and days. Everyone wants to be a winner. *rolls eyes*

Reminds me of the time I was in a band who won an unsigned band competition. We were the only cover band in the grand final, but it's amazing what having a band of 8 people as well as one of them bringing his extended family did for the voting.

Still don't think we should have won that, and not just because they got me the ass before we did the short recording we won. Some of the other bands were really talented and cool, and sure, we had a good sound, but we were playing motown covers, not
