"I don't think there's ever been a foreign army on this island" Hannah replied as Mei-Lien nudged open the door with a loud creak. As she looked out, she saw a large courtyard. Walking out with the young mage in tow, she would note that there were a number of what were once wooden peasant shacks. Most of them were rotted away, though four were still standing to some extent. There are three ways out; two doors to the south, and one door to the north. The northern door, once made of metal and probably quite sturdy, seems to have been more or less obliterated by magic at one point.

"That's not something I'd know about, since this is my second day around here.." Mei continues their little conversation as they enter into the courtyard. After a brief look around to inspect the surroundings, the former champion opts to go through the shacks. Walking towards the nearest one, she didn't count out the possibility that something of use might still be hidden inside.

"Hm. Not from around here? Where are you from? If you don't mind my asking, of course." Mei-Lien begins to inspect the shacks one by one, starting with the nearest one. There's nothing in it besides a candle holder, which seems a strange possession for a peasant, especially in a thatched-roof hut. The next has nothing whatsoever inside it. The third seems to have nothing in it as well, though closer inspection reveals a small, delicate little necklace which has somehow escaped most of the wear and tear of years of neglect. Hannah picks it up and examines it, saying "this is actually quite pretty. It's not very expensive and there are no precious jewels in it, but it's got its own little charm. Do you want it?" she asked, holding it out to her hired partner. If she didn't take it, Hannah would put it on herself as they moved on to the next one, where they would find an old, worn book that was barely readable, and even then only in places.

"Maybe I'll tell you sometime, but not now.." Mei answers the question about her land of origin, not quite sure what to tell as she was still completely unfamiliar with the countries inside the game. The two go methodically through the still-standing buildings in search of something useful. Once she is asked about the necklace, Mei shakes her hand towards the mage. "You keep that, I'm not really one to wear jewelry.." she replies, having never really felt comfortable with the usual stuff girls wore, like jewelry or high-heels.

Once done with the search, she would try to make out what little could be made out from the book before heading towards the southern entrance and carefully entering if nothing sudden came about them.

"Your loss" Hannah replied as she put on the necklace. "It would look good on you, I think." The book seems to be a religious text, and was probably old even before the castle was abandoned. Inside the front cover is what looks like a list of names and dates; it's probably the equivalent of a family bible, and the dates are likely the dates of birth and death for the members of a peasant family going back generations. "It's kind of amazing they were literate. A lot of the poor in the city can't read even now, and the last readable date on this page was almost a century ago" Hannah remarked as Mei-Lien carefully turned the ancient pages. Most of it is impossible to make out, and the rest is fairly unhelpful to Mei-Lien, though perhaps a fascinating glimpse into the mythology of the game world. When she's satisfied with it she puts it back in its place, and the two head to the middle southern door and open it, to find the empty gateroom. To one side is a crankwheel with an old rusty chain wrapped around it; if they so wished, they could open the gates of the castle. Mei-Lien might think it somewhat strange that the gate is closed; what happened to the people who once lived here? The gates couldn't have been closed from the outside.

Once she got through the book, Mei set it back properly as she respected such careful recordings of the people gone by. "They had the good courtesy to remember the ones who paved the roads before them.." she thinks as they leave the shack behind and head for the door.

Inspection inside the door doesn't yield more results than showing them where the main gate was. Still, the former champion took a mental note towards the location in case they needed to escape through an alternate way. With a few possibilities towards the departed inhabitants in mind, she leads the mage back and towards the other southern door, her usual carefulness coming forth as she approaches and enters.

As they walk to the other door, they find the other guardhouse, where the other hole in the wall was. It has much the same scene, though something is a little bit strange about this one; there's a little puddle of aqua liquid not far from the hole. As they enter the room a couple of slimes plop down from the ceiling and begin to wobble towards them. "Slimes!" Hannah cries out, getting behind Mei-Lien and chanting quietly as a small aura of energy surrounded her. "Keep them off me, and I can blast these things, they're probably not that strong."

"Another guardhouse, hmmm.." Mei says in a half-voice as the enter the room behind the second door. As the slimes descend to ground level, the red-haired girl is quickly in her battlestance, giving a nod to the mage in agreement. With the plan read in her mind, Mei-Lien moves forward to attack the nearest goo ball, keeping her kicks low to the ground as she wanted to hit the slithering menaces.

Mei-Lien unleashes a kick against the closest slime, but it somehow hops out of the way at the last moment. Hannah seems to anticipate this, however, and launches two fireballs into it in rapid succession, sending it reeling. It can't quite recover in time to attack Mei-Lien, though its partner launches itself at her, engulfing her ankles in the translucent aqua slime. For some reason she begins to feel ever so slightly aroused, though it's easy to ignore at this point.

With combat now underway, Mei moves towards the opponents wih determination. Her low kick doesn't manage o connect with the slippery slime, much to the redhead's dismay. She can hear the mage use her powers to fire off some spells at the opponents before getting the second slime on her legs. The slime's touch seeps through her pants a bit, somehow making her feel warm. Determined to get free from the grip, she pulls her feet around inside the slime in an effort to get free and hopefully hurt the goo ball in doing so.

Mei-Lien tries to flail her feet in the slime, but it only uses the opportunity to advance further up her legs, engulfing her to her knees and beginning to dissolve her pants. Before she knows quite what's going on, though, a fireball slams into the slime and makes it writhe and wiggle off of her, seemingly having trouble holding itself together, while another fireball hits the other slime. Perhaps Mei-Lien should be thankful that Hannah was proving useful. Perhaps she should be angry that the girl launched a fireball so close to her... Still, the slimes launched themselves at both girls, this time hitting both and engulfing them again up to their ankles. Hannah lets out an "eeep!" as the slime gets to her, but she seems pretty calm all things considered.

"Rrrrrgh.." the martial artist kinda growled as she was not only unable to get rid of the slime, but also had it dissolve some of her pants as it creeped up her feet. Only freed for a moment as the mage's fireball hits the gooey assailant, the martial artist girl starts feeling a bit frustrated as she is engulfed again. She decides to try the same thing again, hoping that Hannah would manage to take care of herself for now.

Mei-Lien's thrashing manages to not only dislodge the slime, but to send it flying in pieces against the furniture. Hannah has no such luck, her fireball barely missing the edge of the slime, and it soon advances up under her dress to her knees. "This one's tough, I can't get rid of it" she said calmly, preparing another attack.

Relieved from her frustration somewhat as the harassing goop splatters away from her, Mei turns her attention to the remaining one. Seeing it still holding the mageling in it's slimy embrace, the redhead moves forward and attempts to stomp at the thing, hoping to flatten it against the ground.

Mei-Lien stomps on the slime, trying to flatten it, but it seems to have no effect. Even so, it makes it easier for Hannah to blast it with a fireball, and it retreats from her swiftly as some of it evaporates. It then turns its attention to Mei-Lien, attacking her and managing to engulf her again. She's starting to feel quite tired by now.

Mei's stomp does absolutely nothing to the slime, her foot just bouncing off the creature's gelatinous body like it was made from rubber. As she pulls back into proper form, the slime has managed to get itself blasted by Hannah magic before it leaped towards her again. Unable to get away in time, Mei is once again slimed up to her ankles. "Grrrh, damn you..." she curses the thing under her breath, which was getting heavy for some reason. Familiar situations called for familiar methods, so se went with the tried and tested approach of flailing against the goo ball with her feet in an effort to get free.

Mei-Lien's thrashing is ineffectual this time, though Hannah manages to blast the slime with another fireball, evaporating a substantial portion of it. The slime still manages to attack Mei-Lien, engulfing her up to her ankles. For whatever reason she's feeling exhausted by now, and slowly falls to her knees in the slime. "Don't worry, I'll finish it off!" Hannah called out, clenching her fists as she launched a fireball at it. The slime suddenly leaped off of Mei-Lien to dodge and into Hannah, engulfing her a bit again and making her, too, tired. Her next attack, however, is just enough to evaporate the slime completely, and she breathes a sigh of relief. She sat down on the ground and said "let's catch our breath for a bit, that was intense. My first fight... Did I do okay?"

After a failed attempt at escape, Mei is briefly released before being forced to her knees by the slime. Feeling the strain in her body, she watches the battle between Hannah and the wounded goop play itself out, and is relieved as the mage manages to come out on top. Still feeling a bit weak in her legs, the former champion takes up the suggestion offered by the mage. "You did good enough, especially when one considers it was your first time in a fight..." she tells the mage, feeling a bit more assured about her abilities now.

Still gathering her strenght back, Mei takes a look at her partially dissolved pants. Seeing them as ruined now, she takes the remains off, now showing off her shapely legs under the slit skirt she wore over them.

"Oh, your pants are all worn and dissolved below the knees... I think I can fix them for you if you'd like me to" Hannah said, her strength quickly returning to her after the fight. Mei-Lien too feels her strength return; maybe the game speeds up recovery after battle to make things move along at a decent pace.

"I would've managed without them, but I feel more comfortable with them on. Go ahead." Mei says to the girl, refraining from taking off the pants and letting the mage fix them as she still gathered the last pieces of her strenght to regain full vitality.

Once the mage had fixed her pants and both girls returned to full strenght, she would take her forward position again and lead Hannah to the northern door to advance their investigation to the next phase.
