Mei-Lien sleeps peacefully through the night, awakening refreshed as the sun begins to peek through the curtains. She can think of a few possible things she could do today: She could go out to buy equipment of some sort, she could wander around the city, she could try to find a job of some sort, she could try to find someone to travel with, or she could venture out to wander around the island.

The night turns out to be uneventful, the martial artist girl getting her peaceful sleep. Once she was up, Mei takes another session of exercises to wake herself up properly, both physically and mentally. Once that was dealt with, she dressed up and headed out, going around to look for a possible job.

Mei-Lien walked closer to the center of the city in her search for a job, and as she approached the streets got a bit wider, the houses larger and more well kept-up, and there were more people milling about. At some point she found a bulletin board filled with advertisements. There were a few for waitress jobs around town, a few that are simply meeting points with no indication of what the actual job is, a few that appear to be salvage jobs in the surrounding ruins, and one that looks like an advertisement from a young woman asking for a companion on an adventure to a ruins.

Moving swiftly through the city, Mei continues analyzing her surroundings for possible weaknesses and escape routes. She was still planning ahead in case of a possible emergency. Once the bulleting board was in front of her, she started milling through the papers. "A waitress... bleh.." she guffed at the idea, though couldn't help thinking about herself in a more pretty dress, serving customers their food. "Not likely.. I'd probably throw smething at them if they tried anything funny.."

Moving forward among the ads, she skips the undescribed papers, not feeling them safe enough to approach. Among the salvage jobs, she comes to a young lady's request at helping her investigate the ruins. "This might be it..." Mei thinks as she rips out the paper and follows the instructions given. It could be a fun endeavor, and if the girl didn't hold up to her promises, the former champion had no issues about beating her down to the ground and finding some nasty thing to do with her.

Mei-Lien followed the directions on the paper towards the potential employer's home. She seems to be heading into a very rich part of town, with beautiful, enormous homes lining wide cobblestone streets that seem to have been cleaned recently. Few people are out and about on these streets besides armed guards, who seem immediately suspicious of the newcomer, though they take no action. Finally Mei-Lien arrives at the address; it's a three story home, the wood it was made from ornately carved. There was a long rope hanging from the overhang, which was attached to a small bell; presumably this was how Mei-Lien would alert the occupants of the house that she had arrived.

Not too fond of the richer people, Mei started feeling a bit uneasy as she headed into the well-off quarters of the city. Returning the glances given to her by the guards with equal spite, she navigates the streets in search of the one particular house to meet the fellow adventurer.

"Hmmm.. your fancy home doesn't make an impression to me. You'll have to do it with your actions.." the former champion thinks as she arrives at the client's manor. She pulls at the cord to signal her arrival and waits for the answer to her call.

Mei-Lien rings the bell and waits for a few minutes before she hears a faint voice indicating that someone is coming. The door finally swings open, and a young woman opens the door. She is thin and pale, and it would seem that she doesn't get out of the house much. She seems puzzled for a moment as she plays a bit with her frilly yellow dress, likely a nervous tic, before she realizes who Mei-Lien is, and her pale hazel eyes light up in excitement. "Oh oh, are you here answering my advertisement? We can't talk here, my parents are home, let's go for a walk" she said, stepping out and closing the door behind her. She started walking, reaching out and grabbing Mei-Lien's hand as she began talking. "My parents never let me do anything, it's so frustrating. I'm a grown woman now, I shouldn't have to stay cooped up inside all the time! So I wanted someone to come with me to explore one of the ruins I've heard are outside the city." With that she suddenly stopped and turned to face Mei-Lien, looking her over more carefully than she had before. "I'm glad you came. I was hoping a woman would answer me, I'd feel weird having a man traveling around with me. Anyway, will you do it? I have plenty of money to pay you, and there'll probably be cool stuff in the ruins" she asked, a pleading look in her eyes.

Once the client presented herself, Mei found herself faced with a bad situation. This scaredy cat of a girl might turn out to be more of a hinderance than an actual useful companion in a ruin hop. Once the girl was finished with talking, the former champion decided to give a piece of her mind before any further agreement commenced. "Have you actually ever been in a fight? Your attitude and way of acting don't raise my hopes much, you seem far too much of a sheltered cat for someone who should be exploring ruins in a small group like this. If you can't throw your own weight around, I'll have to decline the proposition. she shares her opinion without thinking about it too much. If the girl had some talent within her, Mei would accept her proposal, but at the current moment it was not looking good for the client.

The girl looks hurt at Mei-Lien's words, and said "I've never fought before, but I do know how to do some magic. I can definitely fight, especially with someone to help and keep things away from me."

"Hmm, alright. I'll probably regret this later, but I'll come with you. If you can use magic, I suppose it'll be alright.." Mei says to the wiry girl, keeping in mind that she would not go easy on her if some kind of jiggery-pokery occured during or after the ruins run. "Get your gear, we'll head out as soon as you're ready. Oh, your name is what? I'm Mei-Lien, it stands for Beautiful Lotus in my mothertongue.

"You won't regret this, it'll be fun" the girl said, smiling. "My name is Hannah. And what a pretty name you have. Mine's so boring. But anyway, I don't really have any equipment, I'm not the kind of mage that needs any. Don't you have any equipment?"

"Hmph, I'm not the kind to trust my life on some weapon. I fight with the only thing I can trust, my own body. But I suppose we could pick up some supplies in case the trip stretches out longer than expected.." Mei explains to the wannabe mage, letting her take the lead for now

"Hm... Interesting. There are some places we can get dried food and such, if that's what you mean by supplies. Follow me" Hannah replied, leading Mei-Lien through another part of the city to a more busy part of town, eventually reaching a small dried goods store. Hannah bought a number of rations, probably more than they would need under any but the worst circumstances, but money seemed to be no object to the young mage. "Now we should be ready, unless you wanted to buy some kind of armor or something like that."

Going with the mage, Mei collects rations for the coming trip. Once she is asked about armor, she replies in usual manner. "Hmh, not really. I need my movement to be unrestricted to fight at full ability. Unless there's something that doesn't hinder my ability to maneuver, nothing will be needed."

"Almost all armor slows you down a little, so I guess we're set to go" Hannah said, making her way with Mei-Lien towards the city gates. The soldiers guarding the gates wave them on through, and they pass through with no trouble. When they were outside and the gates had shut behind them, the young mage stretched a little and admired the scenery. "I've never been outside the city before. It's very pretty out here. So anyway, there are some ruins not that far to the north, by the sea. Let's head there and see what we can find" she said, and headed north without waiting for an answer.

Once they've cleared out from the market and the city, Mei gets even more reason to worry. "Never even been outside the city. Great, I'm getting more and more unsure with you every new revelation..." she thinks as the mageling explains more things about her life. The fistfighter stays behind the girl firmly, keeping up with her easily as she was in the condition of her life. She would let Hannah lead them on, not knowing about the surrounding area too much herself.

The girl walked along the shore for a while, leaving behind the rocky cliffs near the city and heading to a tree-lined sandy beach. She seemed to be thoroughly enjoying just the walk across the island, stunned at the beautiful scenery of the ocean. After a few uneventful miles they came to another area where the land ended in sheer cliffs, and they soon found a small, worn dirt path up a hill. They walked along it for a short while before a relatively small (for a castle) castle came into view, the stone crumbling in many places, and it looked like at least one of the turrets had fallen into the sea below. "Wow. It's beautiful, but kind of sad, too" Hannah remarked, as she led Mei-Lien closer. The gate seems to be closed, but there are multiple holes in the walls big enough to get through; the two can choose one to the left of the gate, or one to the right.

Mei looks at the unbridled beauty of nature as they slowly grind through the miles that needed to be covered before they could reach the ruins. Being a city girl herself, she had only seen little in ways of nature and could appriciate being among the natural world for once in a while. Once the castle comes into sight, she takes to pondering their entry. "Left or right.. right or left..?" she thought about it a bit before opting for the right hole in the wall. She took a careful look inside before heading in, taking her frontline spot befre the mageling.

Hannah follows Mei-Lien silently, seemingly just taking in the experience of her first adventure. The two duck through the small hole in the wall to the right side and come out in what looks to be a crumbling guardpost, old rusted helmets and equipment propped up against the walls, and the molded and decayed remains of old food laying neatly on a table. It was sort of strange, in a way. Mei-Lien couldn't tell how old these ruins were, and the items strewn about the guardhouse seemed to be painting a contradictory picture. "Hm... These helmets aren't anything like the ones the city guard wears" Hannah remarked as she looked around. There was only one door out, a rusted and beaten up wooden/metal door that was slightly ajar.

Looking about a bit in the abandoned areas, Mei gives a wide berth to the rotting leftovers. "Most likely they are from a foreign army, or the remains of a former generation..." she replies to Hannah, looking at the remains of the old equipment as she does so. With nothing of interest there, she goes to the door. Notioning the mage to stay behind her, she pushes the door open with a gentle prod and peeks inside through the opening before entering properly.
