Re: She is the Night (Sir-Oni)

Seeing the remaining slavers drop dead as her shots tear through their bodies a satisfied smile forms on her face, the mercenary holsters her pistols as her attention then turns to the bound slavers as the spiders re-enter the room and converge on them.

"Leave their faces uncovered. They're going to need to answer a few questions," Eleanor commands the spiders, her tone authoritative. For a long moment Eleanor simply stares at the slavers, her arms crossed over her chest and a scowl on her face. "Tell me," Eleanor finally begins, her words coming out slow and purposefully. "Does the name Drake Whitehurst mean anything to you bastards?" A momentary pause, though not for them to answer. More for her question to sink in before she moves on. "Why did your people kill him? He didn't have a band of merc's policing his land, nor did he have a personal army to steal the land of others. What reason could your group have for killing him?" Eleanor attempts to keep herself calm and composing, though it's obviously by her expression that it won't last for long.

Rolls
Perception (Eleanor) : Failure.

"Oh.... Okay, Eleanor," one of the spiders said, and left the three captured slavers bound, but with their faces uncovered. Her three captives all glared at Eleanor as she demanded answers from them. One of the men, an older one with a full beard and mustache that were half grey, replied first; "What, the bonehead who tried to put us out of business? You're really wondering why we went and offed him?" The woman glared at the man as if he were an idiot, and then turned her head to face Eleanor in order to evenly reply; "I don't know what you're talking about girl. I've only been with this group for six months."

The final man tiredly replied; "Don't waste your effort Kara. She's going to kill all three of us no matter what we say, so we might as well just not say anything." The other two clammed up at his word, but before Eleanor could say much more, she felt a piece of steel, icy cold even through her clothing, resting gently on the side of her neck. "Don't move," a calm, quiet, male voice said into Eleanor's ear, and then a moment later said slightly louder; "Anny, go and cut the ones over there free, but leave those three webbed up."

A girl's voice nervously replied; "Alright Geralt." The spiders didn't seem nervous at all, for some reason, and the man smoothly continued; "Alright, explain to me why you killed these men, and what you're doing here, and why the fey helped you do it." One of the spiders tried to speak, but the man behind her quickly barked; "I'll ask you next, be patient." The spider looked depressed.

Re: She is the Night (Sir-Oni)

Eleanor is about to respond to the three bound slavers until she feels the cold sting of metal against her neck, and her body tenses up. "Dammit, how could I be so stupid," Eleanor mentally scolds herself for having allowed these people to get the drop on her. "Who are these people, the group they were trading these girls to? Or perhaps a rival slaver group..?

"You want to know why I killed these men?" Eleanor repeats, anger in her voice. Both at these men and at herself. "I was contracted to rescue the women they had captured, and I make sure to always complete my contracts. For that they had to be killed, otherwise they'd just follow me. I've also been tracking the group these pieces of shit work with for several years. They killed my lord, Drake Whitehurt. And even recently they killed my lover. These bastards deserve everything I'll give them. And these spiders are with me because I promised them a place to live once we're through with this." Eleanor pauses for a moment, to try and compose herself. "If you've got nothing to do with these bastards I suggest you let me get back to it. And if you plan on saving these assholes then you'll have to kill me to do so. But be warned, you may have a chance at killing me, but as soon as you do these spiders won't allow you to leave this chamber alive."

Re: She is the Night (Sir-Oni)

The man behind her listened silently and motionlessly while the girl that was with him cut the ones who Eleanor had been sent to rescue free from their spider inflicted bonds. When she suggested that he was going to attempt to rescue the three captives, however, the man chuckled to himself and removed the blade from her neck. "I have no love for slavers and mercenaries, even if I sometimes fall into the latter category. I merely wanted to make sure that you weren't one of them seeking prizes."

He stepped back and away from Eleanor, allowing her to turn and face him if she wanted to. If she did, she would find a tall, almost ghostly pale man standing before her, possessing an athletic, muscular build and with a pair of swords sheathed at his sides. He had a scar on his right cheek, and short grey-white hair that clung tightly to his head. Behind him was a girl that almost certainly hadn't yet seen her twentieth year, about five and a half feet tall and with long, straight, shiny blond hair. She smiled hesitantly at Eleanor as she continued cutting at the bindings holding the three girls that she'd been sent to rescue, "Hi, I'm Anny! The grumpy guy is Geralt."

The "grumpy guy," meanwhile, had turned to one of the talking spiders that Eleanor had recruited and was speaking with it in low tones. He was crouched down and had his back turned, leaving himself largely exposed and vulnerable to Eleanor if she wanted some payback. Of course, she could have simply continued her interrogation of her three bound captives, and in which much the same would have happened except she simply wouldn't have seen any of it. The three captured slavers hadn't said anything further, at least not yet, and were glaring at Eleanor with a range of emotions starting at open hostility in the case of the apparent leader of the three, to pleading from the woman, to outright contempt on the part of the older man.

Re: She is the Night (Sir-Oni)

"If you value your lives you'll get out of here," Eleanor says as Geralt removes the blade from her throat, the woman not turning to face the new arrivals, annoyance more than anger in her voice. "This city is crawling with demons, partly due to me, so it's unsafe to stay here. Or stay, it's your choice."

Once done with Geralt and Anny, the latter's introduction she barely paid any attention to, Eleanor turns her attention back to the bound slavers, a twisted smile forming on her face. "Now, where were we..." Mock thinking for a moment to shake a little fear into the slavers. "Ah yes. I was interrogating you, wasn't I. What was it you said? That you killed my lord because he would've 'put you out of business'?" Eleanor signs air quotes when she repeats the man's reason. "So what, you think enslaving people is an acceptable business?" Screaming at the man Eleanor delivers a kick to his stomach, though as she does a searing pain shoots up her leg, reminding her of the bullet she so recently took.

"One of you, can you bandage my leg up?" Eleanor winces as she turns to the group of spiders, noticing Geralt conversing with one of them. "Oi, don't get any funny ideas or you'll be next."

Once her leg has been bandaged, or her question ignored Eleanor addresses the slavers once more, this time focusing on the woman of the group. "Kara, was it? Tell me, if you count yourself amongst the innocent then why the hell are you a part of this slaver group? You may not have been with them at the time, but you're guilty by association. I imagine these men would have sold you the moment you became a liability." Eleanor pauses, and smiles inwardly. While she has no idea whether the men would actually sell this woman for some quick coin the mercenary assumes she'd at least give it some thought now that Eleanor has mentioned it. "So why not help me out? I'm sure we can come to an agreement."

Re: She is the Night (Sir-Oni)

Eleanor: HP = 57, PP = 51, EP = 40, Status = Pregnant, Fine (sort of)

At the suggestion that it wasn't safe due to the demons present, both Geralt and Anny simply chuckled and continued about their business.

As she turned back to the slavers, however, the man whom she focused on grunted in pain as she began kicking him in the stomach, but even so he lets out a quiet bark of laughter. "You think that your big tittied ass intimidates me? Let me out of these bindings and I'll show you your place, cunt. On your knees or on your back!"

The spiders, when asked to to bandage her leg, chittered loudly for a moment before one said; "We don't know.... We're not really very good at that sort of stuff." Geralt, meanwhile, stared over his shoulder at Eleanor with a blank expression as she chastised him for speaking to the spiders and threatened him, but he rose back to his feet and said; "Allow me. The spiders are poor healers, and they wouldn't be able to dig the bullet out of your leg if it's still inside."

He approached her, and if she allowed it he knelt next to her and pulled aside the torn cloth of her pants to examine her wound. Anny came over a moment later and pulled a small box out of her pack, kneeling and placing it beside Geralt as he checked her wound. "Looks like it passed through cleanly, but there's some cloth in the wound. We've got to pull it out or you'll get an infection," her reported calmly, and then casually stuck a pair of forceps from the box into the bullet hole in her leg, extracting several bloodied pieces of cloth and placing them aside. After that, he rolled down the stocking on her wounded leg until he could properly see the hole, and wrapped it in bandages before cleaning the tools he'd used, putting them back in the box and rising back to his feet.

Getting back to the interrogation of the slavers, the female of the group seemed mollified by Eleanor's words regarding her position, but still replied; "It's just a job! I needed the money, and my only options were mercenary work or whoring! Besides, they wouldn't ever have sold one of their own into slavery! Almost a quarter of our membership is female!" When offered and agreement, however, the girl went quiet for a moment and then said; "What kind of agreement?" The other two men began to speak out immediately, the one she'd kicked in the gut grunting; "Fucking traitor whore!" The other, however, was more composed as he quietly said; "You can't trust a thing that this woman says, Kara."

Re: She is the Night (Sir-Oni)

"...Fine." Is all Eleanor replies with to the man, though as he begins work on her injured leg she can't help but marvel at his medical skills. Even if the work was hurting like a bitch.

"T-thanks for that," Panting from the pain that fixing the wound brought about, Eleanor thanks Geralt as he helps himself up. "I, uh... I guess I was wrong about you." Patting the man once on the shoulder Eleanor then turns to face the slavers once more.

"'Almost a quarter'?" Eleanor scoffs at the woman's comment, performing air quotation marks. "This group doesn't care about you. Sure, individuals may, but for the most part you're wanted so long as you can do you job. Falter, and well, I've already said what will happen. And like you said; not even a quarter of the slavers are female. You're at a disadvantage already. They can afford to trade a quarter of their 'men'," Again with the air quotation marks. "So long as it brings in more coin."

"Oh, I'm sure you'd like that very much," Eleanor replies to the gobby slaver, her voice thick with disgust. She then turns back to the woman.

"What kind of agreement? Oh, I dunno... You don't seem to fully understand what this group is capable of, and what they've done. And you don't seem to be doing this for a sense of power, so you're not completely at fault. I was thinking we could cooperate; you tell me what I want to know and I'll let you go free. Be it by yourself or journeying with me, I don't particularly care. However, whatever you choose you'll be accompanying me out of this sewer. Can't run the risk of you backstabbing me by alerting any nearby friends. And you have my word, I don't break my promises. I assure you of that." Eleanor adds at the end at the calmer man's comment.

Geralt simply nodded and replied; "You're welcome," when Eleanor offered him her thanks, though the white haired man raised a single pale eyebrow as Eleanor also patted him on the shoulder. He and Anny remained in the room, but moved to stand amongst the talking spiders rather than remain too near Eleanor's interrogation.

The female slaver remained silent at first, her expression unreadable, but the louder of the two male slavers immediately spat; "We'd never betray one of our own! Kara knows that! And what the fuck do you know about us!?"

Despite his words, the girl listened silently to what Eleanor said, and then quietly replied; "What do you want to know?" The quiet man rolled his eyes and adopted a knowing look, while the older, mouthier one sputtered for a moment and then shouted; "TRAITOROUS WHORE!? WHEN I GET OUT OF THESE WEBS I'M GOING TO KILL YOU WITH MY BARE GOD DAMNED HANDS!! DO YOU HEAR ME!? THE VERY SECOND I'M DONE WITH THIS RED HAIRED CUNT AND HER FUCKING SPIDERS, YOU'RE FUCKING NEXT!!"

"Will, just shut the fuck up, please. You're making an ass of yourself, and we all know you're not going to do dick. If we're lucky, this bitch is going to put a bullet to the two of us when she's done talking. Lets not drag this shit out any longer than we have to," the more composed of the two said, and the other tried to turn his head to glare at the speaker. Failing that, he instead grumbled; "Fuck you Steve, I'm trying to keep a positive attitude here!" Geralt chuckled a little at that, and Anny began to giggle, which drew the ire of the bound man, though he didn't say anything further.

Re: She is the Night (Sir-Oni)

"What do I know?" Eleanor repeats, agitation clearly showing on the woman's face. "I had infiltrated a slaver group a year or so ago, posed as one of them to get easier access to the girls I had been contracted to rescue. I knew these people were disgusting filth when I made that choice, but what I saw, how they treated their female slavers. It turned my stomach. Fortunately I wasn't there for long, wiped out that little group in the process of saving the women they had captured. But those images will stay with me for the rest of my life." A lie, but the man would probably not know this, smaller slaver groups would often be wiped out or absorbed into the more 'renowned' slaver groups.

"Glad to see you're willing to cooperate," With some good news finally Eleanor moves towards the woman, and drawing her blade she carefully cuts the female slaver out of the webbing that is binding her, offering Kara a hand. "I think we've heard enough from you," Turning to the rowdy male Eleanor instructs the spiders to completely cover his face so that they'd not have to suffer his rants. She then turns to Kara once more. "What I want to know is where is your boss currently holed up, and how many people are with him. I plan on killing this bastard for everything he's done."

Kara held still as Eleanor cut her free of her bonds, and then accepted the mercenary's offered hand and returned to her feet. "Thank you, Eleanor. I'm sure I can help you." After she'd tied up the mouthier of the two, Kara went on to say; "I'm not sure exactly where he is, but I know of the designated holding areas if our base was attacked. I can lead you to those if you want, but I can't tell you which one he's at specifically. He'll have a portion of what's left of us, I'd say at least ten more people with him. They'd be a lot more experienced than the ones you... You killed here."

"His guards won't be a problem, I can assure you of that," Eleanor gives her guns a once over before turning to Kara once more. "These holding areas won't stand for long. Either I'll destroy them or the demons crawling all over Artmirst will do it for me. Either way this bastard dies today." The mercenary then turns to Geralt and Anny. "Feel free to help yourself to anything on those bodies, however I want any pistol ammo and money. I imagine it's going to cost a fair bit for a coffin and fare to Crolia."

Eleanor then glances over at the quieter man. "What about him? There's no way that loud mouth is leaving here, but he seems like he cares about your safety. What's the story between you two?"

Kara looked somewhat sickly at Eleanor's words but said nothing response. When she turned to the two adventurers that had stumbled upon the site of her battle, Anny frowned at Eleanor while Geralt simply rolled his eyes and replied; "Sure. But, why are you taking a coffin to Crolia?"

When asked about the quieter man, Kara replied; "I don't know him that well, but he's an officer like I am.... Was. I never saw him hurt anyone except the people that we fought, or take any of the captive girls either, but I wasn't with this group for very long." The man apparently decided not to say anything, as he simply hung limply in the webbing holding him as Kara and Eleanor stood over him.

Geralt came by a few moments later and handed Eleanor a sac filled with coin, as well as a handful of bullets. "They're mostly riflemen, so they didn't have much in the way of pistol ammunition." The scarred man himself pocketed a number of small red stones, as well as a few sharp looking teeth and a couple of other assorted baubles.

(Eleanor gains some ammo and 88 denarii in loose change.)

Re: She is the Night (Sir-Oni)

"Because I promised Aulekia that after this we'd move to Crolia to start a new life," Eleanor explains to Geralt without turning to face him. "And even though she's dead now I'd still like to honour that promise."

With her arms folded over her chest once more Eleanor listens to Kara's explanation, a frown on her face as she watches the bound slaver. "I'll admit he doesn't seem like too bad a person. For a slaver that is." Eleanor stares at the quiet man for several more minutes before sighing and shaking her head, and muttering to herself. "I can't believe I'm about to do this..." Unsheathing her sword once more Eleanor steps towards the man and kneels down in front of him. "Like her you're no longer a slaver. I don't care what you do with your life from now on, but if you have any sense you'll get far away from here. If Kara doesn't join me I'd suggest you two stick together for a while, though I guess her invitation is open to you as well." Just like with Kara, Eleanor cuts the man free before standing back up, though she doesn't offer him the same courtesy of helping him up. "Please don't make me regret doing this."

"Any amount of ammo will do," Thanking Geralt Eleanor quickly reloads her pistols before turning to the group at large. "Right, before I take the fight to these bastards I need to quickly check in with a friend, let him know what's happening. We've been split up for long enough so I'm sure he's starting to worry. And we need to get these girls to safety until I've put this group down, and he's the safest place they can be. You're all welcome to join me," Turning to Geralt and Anny. "No doubt these bastards are housing a lot of treasure, and I'm sure they've wronged you in the past. So how about it?"

Once they've given their answer Eleanor walks over to the fully bound man, a pistol in her hand. "You brought this upon yourself, you do realise that, right? You're too much of a threat to everyone to let you go free, we can't have you alerting your boss before we get the chance to wipe his little club out." Lifting the pistol up Eleanor places the barrel against his chest before firing a single shot, then firing one more in his head for good measure. "Right, with that dealt with lets get going." Holstering her pistol Eleanor sets off to leave the sewers, either taking her own path with the others in tow or following a path known to Geralt and Anny. Either way the woman will be heading to the building she first met Aulekia once they have come out of the sewers.

Re: She is the Night (Sir-Oni)

Geralt had no response to Eleanor's proclamation that she would keep her promise to Aulekia. The slaver seemed extremely surprised when Eleanor made him the same offer she'd made to Kara, and after being cut loose he slowly rose to his feet, staring at her. After a while, he simply nodded and slowly picked up his discarded rifle, keeping his hand well away from the trigger as he placed it over his back. "No offense, but I don't intend to ever see either of you again. Gooday miss. Kara." With that, he turned and climbed up the stairs that Geralt and Anny had come down to intrude upon Eleanor's battle with the slavers, while Kara remained at her side with an apprehensive look on her face.

The spiders that had followed her listened to her plan to go and meet Fido (though she didn't actually mention the hellhound) and replied as one in a loud and horribly cheerful voice; "Kay!" Anny glanced at Geralt as she offered to let them tag along, and the pale man simply shrugged and replied; "There are only two people alive right now who've wronged me and lived, and neither of them are slavers. Still, such mercenaries generally have plenty of coin stashed about, and might even have a few bounties. So long as Anny and I get a fair share and you don't try to take us to our deaths, we're in."

The bound slaver scowled up at her, roaring at her through his bindings as he squirmed about on the ground. His squirming halted with a shiver as Eleanor's first shot tore through his heart, the second one through his head only a formality. It was about then that the girls she'd come to rescue, silent up until then even after being cut loose by Anny, made their presence known. One of them, a blond girl with slightly pointed ears suggesting a hint of elven heritage, stepped forward and cleared her throat loudly. She was barely dressed, the slavers no doubt having liked to keep the fairly attractive young women as scantily clad as possible, and she was blushing slightly in response to that as she said; "Ummm... Not that we're not grateful, but.... Who are you? And how did you know to look for us?"

"How I found you?" Eleanor repeats, turning to face the rather attractive blonde. "I'm a mercenary, miss. I took a contract to take out the group of slavers that had kidnapped you. While you weren't the original target for the contract I'd not be able to live with myself if I didn't rescue you. I'm Eleanor Whitehurst." Briefly offering the woman her hand, once done Eleanor turns to leave.

"I'm sorry to have to rush you all, but if we could I'd like to get out of here as soon as possible. We have no idea how long that bastard will stay cooped up in one of these safe houses, or whether releasing that slaver was the worst decision of the day. If there's anything you'd like to know you can ask me on the way to my friend." With what she has to say over with Eleanor again attempts to set off, hoping that Fido hasn't grown bored or worse.

"Oh.. Uhm.... Okay... I guess." The girl seemed at least somewhat reassured by that, and briefly clasped Eleanor's hand, "I'm Devicka, and these are my sisters, Lori and Ashyn. Uhhh... Thanks for rescuing us, I guess." With that out of the way, Eleanor and her assorted allies left the basement and headed up into the streets of Artmirst. Without Fido to guide her, Eleanor had no idea how to get to the house where Aulekia had been killed, and quickly became lost in the desolate streets of the ruined, demon infested city. She wandered for a while before finding a path she'd taken before, and eventually followed it back to the house. Fido was there, lying on the floor with his head on his paws beside Aulekia's corpse. The hellhound raised his head and started wagging his tail as Eleanor entered, and act that caused Geralt and Anny to raise an eyebrow and glance at each other sceptically.

"Don't shoot, this is my friend," Throwing her arm back for a moment to stop any unwanted advancements on Fido Eleanor then makes her own way to the hellhound, her features softening up as she kneels in front of the great dog and ruffles his hair. "Sorry for making you wait for so long, but I'm going to need you to be a little more patient and wait a little bit longer. She's," Eleanor points to Kara. "going to help me get to the bastard who's in charge of the group that killed Aulekia and my Lord. There's a few girls I need you to look after as well. And no raping them, they're to be kept safe, okay?"

Standing back up Eleanor then turns to the spiders. "I'm going to need a couple of you to bind up Aulekia's body. Once you're done I'll need a few of you to stay here to protect the girls with Fido. Don't worry, he won't hurt you." She adds hastily at the end as Eleanor remembers what the spiders had said about how other demons had been killing them off.

"Okay, I'm ready now," Eleanor says finally as she turns to the remainder of the group. "Is there anything anyone has to say or ask before we set off? We're probably going to have a pretty big fight on our hands so once we start I doubt we're going to have much time for talking. Anything you want to say gets said now."

"You're the only one with a gun," Geralt pointed out sardonically when Eleanor asked them not to shoot Fido, causing Anny to let out a light giggle. Fido barked quietly (for a hellhound) at Eleanor's apology and licked her face with a long, sinuous tongue when she knelt in front of him and ruffled his hair. Upon receiving her instructions, Fido barked again and panted for a moment before lying back down. She assumed that that signaled the hellhounds agreement to her orders.

The lead spider waved his front legs at Eleanor and replied, "Kay!" Spinning about, he pointed at several other spiders in turn and issued orders, "Snori! Jason! Pwent! Nickle! Ardvark! You're binding the lady's body up for transport and then staying here to guard miss Devicka, miss Lori, and miss Ashyn! The rest of you are coming with me to help miss Eleanor!" The spiders indicated gave a salute with their right forelegs and moved to do just that, while the others formed up and prepared to follow Eleanor. Geralt and Anny watched them go with mild amusement, but the girls they had been told to protect regarded them with horror. The one whom Devicka had indicated was named Lori blurted out, "Did that thing just talk!?"

Devicka shot her a warning look, but when she turned to Eleanor after the mercenary indicated her readiness to depart their spokewoman couldn't keep all of the panic out of her voice, "So, wait, are you just up and leaving us here, with nothing to protect us but a bunch of talking spiders and a gigantic, demonic dog!?"

Eleanor had watched the spiders with mild interest, idly wondering why she hadn't thought to ask them their names before hearing their 'leader' call them by their names. Though as Devicka voices her complaints Eleanor sighs.

"You've got nothing to worry about. Fido is more than a match for anything that'll come this way, and you saw what the spiders are capable of back when I rescued you. They'll bind up anyone, or thing, that makes an attempt on this place and your life," Eleanor attempts to put Devicka at ease, hoping that the woman and her group will not make her departure difficult. "And should something prove too difficult to take down they'll take you all away to somewhere safe. I'll be able to track you all down so there's no worries about me losing you all, and you don't have to worry about Fido trying to have sex with you. He may be a demon but I trust that he'll follow my orders. He's a friend after all. Now, if we're done here I think it's time to set off." The mercenary adds at the end, hoping that's the last she'll hear of any objections.

Eleanor gained 6 exp from the slaver fight! I forgot >.>

"I'm not worried about them being able to fight things, I'm worried about the fact that you're leaving us in the care of a bunch of monsters!" Devicka said angrily, and one of the spiders that was busy binding Aulekia's body turned toward her and irritably exclaimed, "Hey! Just because we don't look like you doesn't make us monsters!" It turned back to its task, but Fido was glaring at the girl as well now. The hellhound couldn't talk, but it seemed to share the spider's sentiment regarding the girl's words.

Geralt interjected, "The spiders you won't have to worry about at all, I've encountered them often enough to know that they'd lay down their lives to protect you before harming you. The hellhound seems to obey Eleanor, so you don't have to worry about it attacking you so long as she's ordered it not to. Which she has. You'll be fine."

The girls seemed to settle at the pale man's words and Kara, who had up until now remained silent, finally spoke up, "We'd best be off, they might decide to move somewhere else if they think no one else is going to show up." After that Eleanor, Kara, Geralt, Anny, and a half dozen spiders departed from the place where they had left Aulekia's body and the girls that Eleanor had come to rescue. Kara led them through the streets, opting for speed instead of stealth unless Eleanor decided to say something to the contrary, and soon enough they arrived at the first safe house that Kara had indicated. The dilapidated inn was empty, and showed no signs of having been occupied in the recent past.

Upon seeing this, Kara turned a bright shade of pink and said, "Crap. This one was the closest.... We probably only have enough time to reach one before they decide to move, and I have no idea which one they'll go to." She paused and turned toward Eleanor and the others, "One is in a small warehouse on the border of the industrial district somewhere to the North, and the other is a brothel on the docks to the South."
